R. Paul Hale, 83, of Brighton, died Jan. 1, 1998, in Alton Memorial. He married Victoria Radke, who survives. He was a well-known dahlia grower and exhibitor, and won gold medals for many of his flowers. Also surviving are a son, Joe of Marlboro, Ma.; daughters, Joanna Brock of Clarksville, Mo., Jan Risser and Julie Hale, both of Houston, Tx.; and four grandchildren. Services were through Targhetta Funeral Home in Brighton.

R. Harlan Hall, 85, died May 18, 1997. He married Heberta Virginia Whittleman, who preceded him in death. He retired in 1977 as comptroller of Millers Mutual Insurance Co., where he had worked for 36 years. Surviving are a son, Mark of Alton; a brother, Charles of Silver Spring, Md.; a sister, Marjorie L. Schueler of Dorsey; and two grandchildren. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton.
