He married Hattie Heinkel, who survives. Elmer Edward Helmkamp, 93, of Moro, died Oct. 10, 1998, in his home. He married Eleanor Wilkening, who survives. He was a blacksmith for the family John Deere dealership in Moro; retired as a machinist from Olin Corp. and Beall Manufacturing; and then operated Helmkamp Coal Service. Helmkamp was a founding member of the Moro Improvement Association, and was Moro Township clerk. Also surviving are a daughter, Edith Garner of East Alton; sons, Eugene and Lyndol, both of Bethalto; and a sister, Selma Dial of Suttons Bay, Mi. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to United in Mission Church and School, Zion Lutheran Church building program, and to charities of choice.
