Bob L. Hill, 70, of East Alton, died July 7, 1999, in Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He married Evelyn Miller, who survives. Also surviving are daughters, Evelyn Andoe of Wood River Dianna Ghere of Brighton; sisters, Jeanette Osborne of Burkburnett, Tx., and Dixie McGuiness of Deerfield, Fl.; and brothers, John of Crystal City, Mo., and Benjamin of Council Bluff, Ia. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton.

Leroy Hill, 82, of South Roxana, died Feb. 9, 2001, in Alton Memorial Hospital. He married Barbara Oliver, who preceded him in death. Surviving are a son, Thomas of South Roxana; daughters, Debbie Stacy and Gwen King, both of South Roxana, and Jackie Upton of Edinburg; a half-brother, Charles Freiner; and half-sisters, Frances Johnson of South Roxana, and Lee Rice of Granite City. Services were through Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Gene A. Hillman, 62, of Bethalto, died Mar. 4, 1999, in Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. He married Dona Morgan, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Gene of Bethalto; and a sister, Janet Gant of Winchester. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and to charities of choice.

Hindelang 09/06/98
Charles H. Hindelang, 83, of Alton, died Sept. 6, 1998, in Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. His wife, Margaret, survives. Also surviving are sons, Richard of Grafton, and James of Troy; daughters, Mary Hindelang of Alton, and Sharley Hindelang of Washington, D.C.; and brothers, Robert and Paul of Carrollton, Richard of San Antonio, Tx., and Bill of Tavernier, Fl. Services were through Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, and the American Lung Association.

Fay Aileen Hines, 83, of Medora, died Nov. 8, 2000, in Carlinville Area Hospital. Her husband, Ervin, preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Alice Ribble of Hettick; and a brother, Paul Lockyer of Bunker Hill. Services were in Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora.

Eileen M. Hinners, 70, of Godfrey, died Jan. 4, 1999, in St. Louis University Hospital. Her husband, Carl, survives. Also surviving are sons, Carl, Jr., of Alton, and Bernard of Godfrey; a step-son, Paul Marshall of Jerseyville; a brother, Paul Magee of Kensington, Md.; and a sister, Bernadette McBride of Johnson City, N.Y. Services were through Gent Funeral Home in Alton.

Larry G. Hinson, 57, of East Alton, died Nov. 10, 2000, in Alton Memorial Hospital. He married Janice Barr, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Larry, Jr., of Flemington, N.J., and Brad of Florence, Ky.; a daughter, Stacie Miller of Wood River; brothers, Elgin of Wood River, and Charles of Seattle, Wa.; and sisters, Beverly Leitner of Rosewood Heights, and Nance Spano of East Alton. Services were in Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Memorials may be given to the Spencer T. Olin Learning Center in Alton.

Hinthorne 11/25/99
Robert Russell Hinthorne, 73, of Bethalto, died Nov. 25, 1999, in St. Louis University Hospital. He married Lorraine Wethington, who preceded him in death. He married Illa Miller, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Robert Hinthorne of Bethalto, and Kevin Miller of Alton; a brother, Richard of Staunton; and sisters, Phyllis Cerny and JoAnne Fritzsche both of Meadowbrook, Shirley Curl of Florida, and Betty Gregory of East Alton. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran School and library in Bethalto.

Hirschberg 10/05/97
Julia G. Hirschberg, 97, of Jerseyville, died Oct. 5, 1997, in Saint Anthony's. Her husband, Charles, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Robert of South Roxana; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services were in Gent. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Sarah M. Hobbs, 82, of Godfrey, died July 21, 1997, in Alton Memorial Hospital. Her husband, the Rev. John W. Hobbs, Jr., preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, John of Godfrey; a sister, Bessie Lyon of Newport News, Va.; and one grandchild. Services were through Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Alton.

James A. Hodge, 84, of Cottage Hills, died June 7, 1998, in Alton Memorial. He married Evelyn Smith, who survives. Also surviving are a son, James of East Alton, and a daughter, Mary Spalding of Bethalto. Services wre through Elias-Smith in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to charities of choice.

Evelyn R. Hodge, 85, of Bethalto, died Dec. 9, 1999, in Bethalto Care Center. Her husband, James, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, James of Cottage Hills; a daughter Mary Spalding of Bethalto; and sisters, Hilda Lones of Huntsville, Al., and Helen Lamer of Bethalto. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Surviving are daughters, Brenda Mills and Bonnie Clendenny, both of East Alton; a brother, George Buis of Jerseyville; and sisters, Bessie Lay of Florence, Ky., and Vera Weigand of Alton. Services were in Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the ICU nurses at Alton Memorial.

Also surviving are sons, Matthew of East Alton, and Jonathan of Bethalto; a daughter, Tammy Clark of Portage, In.; and sisters, Lois Pruitt of Brighton, Clara Choat of Cottage Hills, and Betty Hunt of Alton. Services were through Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Memorials may be given to Peace Baptist Church in Granite City, and to the Barnard Cancer Research Center.

Chester L. Hodges, 69, of Cottage Hills, died Nov. 27, 1997, in Pittsfield. He married Juanita Smile, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Richard of St. Louis, and Ronald of Godfrey; a daughter, Dawn McCormick of Godfrey; a brother, Forest of North Dakota; sisters, Helen Taylor of Jerseyville, and Agnes Segraves of California; and three grandchildren. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Frank E. Hoehn, 85, of Alton, died Mar. 3, 1999, in V.I.P. Manor in Wood River. His wife, Ruth, survives. Also surviving are a son, Henry of Godfrey. Services were through Staten Funeral Home in Alton.

Catherine I. Hoene, 58, of Alton, died June 4, 2000, in V.I.P. Manor in Wood River. Her husband, Rhaban, survives. Also surviving are a son, Charles of Alton; and sisters, Carol Hancock of Godfrey, and Elizabeth Dunham of Jerseyville. Services were through Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Hoffman 10/10/98
Gene L. Hoffman, 86, of Bethalto, died Oct. 10, 1998, in Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. He married Ruth Hillis, who survives. He was an educator and a legislator, and in 1949 received the nation's highest honor, the Civilian Service Award, for meritorious assistance to Iowa farmers. Also surviving are sons, Lars of Godfrey, Lynn of Denver, Co., and Buzz of Des Moines, Ia. Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton are in charge of arrangements for a family service next weekend in Lamoni, Ia.

Hoffman 07/30/00
Betty Mae Hoffman, 77, of Wood River, died July 30, 2000, in Alton Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Melvin, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, Bobby Hoffman of Wood River, David Hoffman of Chicago, and Pat Richardson of Fenton, Mo. Services were in Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Memorials may be given to the Women of the Moose, Chapter 263, in Wood River.

Esther Hofmeister, 90, of Jerseyville, died July 5, 1999, in Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. Her husband, Lester, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Ben Coley of Caseyville; and a daughter, Doris Wright of Godfrey. Services were in Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
