Hazel M. Beasley, 85, of Bunker Hill, died Aug. 5, 1997, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Elvin, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, James of Langley, Ok.; daughters, Elowese Whiteside of Bunker Hill, and Louise Harms of Sweetsprings, Mo.; a brother, Truman Hargiss of Wood River; sisters, Alyene Eaker of Meadowbrook, Christina Worley of St. Ann, Mo., Mahdeen Thedford of Porter, Tx., and Ethil Mathews and Georgia Klasing, both of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and five great, great-grandchildren. John Beck, 91, of Bethalto, died Apr. 24, 1997, in Alton Memorial Hospital. He married Ruth Bryan, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Byron of Rock Island; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He retired from Shell Oil Co., had operated his own Shell service station, was active in Boy Scouting, the Masonic Order, and both the Bethalto Presbyterian Church and the Bethalto Methodist Church. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to the Methodist Church.

She had been a cosmetology teacher at Alton Senior High School for many years. Surviving are a son, Cecil of Brighton; brothers, Kenneth Elledge of Alton, and Lavern Elledge of Rosewood Heights; sisters, Leona Benz of Pleasant Hill, and Eva Hurley of Hillsborough, Ca.; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
