Walson H. Berger, 83, of Godfrey, died May 26, 1998, in Saint Anthony's Health Center. Berger, always known as "Wally," was owner of Berger Buick in Alton for 43 years. He was active in community affairs, and was well known for his innovations in advertising Buick automobiles. Berger was one of the first automobile dealers in the River Bend Area to use an advertising agency. He married Eleanor Zoeller, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Phillip of Godfrey; a daughter, Beth of St. Louis; and two grandsons. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to Saint Anthony's Foundation, St. Mary's School endowment fund, and Marquette Catholic High School.
