Gary C. Gamrath, 56, of Godfrey, died Jan. 11, 2000, in St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He married Peggy Hanson, who survives. He was owner of Re/Max River Bend in Alton, and was active in the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club. Also surviving are a son, Craig of Colorado; a daughter, Robin Gamrath of Maryland; a sister, Eileen Wood of Door County, Wi.; and brothers, Doug of Door County, and Tom of Denver. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey.

Gannon 10/21/00
Goldie L. Gannon, 88, of Alton, died Oct. 21, 2000, in D'Adrian Convalescent Center in Godfrey. Her husband, William, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, William Shelton of Alton, and Robert Shelton of South Roxana. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to charities of choice.

Gardner 03/26/99
William Charles Gardner, 71, of Godfrey, died Mar. 26, 1999, in his home. He married Jeanie Baird, who survives. He was a professor in the English Department of Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey. Also surviving are sons, Jamie of Greenville, S.C., and Scott of Godfrey; and brothers, Robert of Minneapolis, Mn., and Josiah of Columbus, Oh. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the soccer scholarship fund at Lewis and Clark, and to Saint Anthony's Hospice.

Tillie Garfinkle, 89, of Alton, died Jan. 19, 1999, in Rosewood Care Center in Alton. No survivors were listed. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to Adopt A Pet of Sawyerville.

Johnie Jewel Garis, 82, of Cottage Hills, died Jan. 6, 1998, in Saint Anthony's. He married Fannie Cavasher, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Jerry of Godfrey, Johnie of Alton, and Edward of Meadowbrook; a daughter, Rose Karrick of East Alton; brothers, Virgil of Enid, Ok., and Earl of Piggott, Ar.; sisters, Mildred Garis of Alton, Lela Roberts of Paragould, Ar., and Lillian Prince of Conway, Ar.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. Services were in Elias-Smith in Alton. Memorials may be given to First Southern Baptist Church in Forest Homes.

Jerry D. Garland, 56, of Alton, died Oct. 22, 1998, in Alton Memorial Hospital. He married Karen Kelly, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Lois Dike; and brothers, Arthur of Fosterburg, Donald of Bethalto, Michael of Alton, Norman of Harvester, Mo., and James Dike of East Alton; and sisters, Joyce McIntire of Alton, and Sandra Peuterbaugh of Wood River. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights, and the Leukemia Society.

Velma A. Garrison, 75, died Aug. 21, 2000, in Bethalto Care Center. Her husband, Hayward, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, Mervin Cato of Michigan, Ronald Cato of Tennessee; a daughter, Pamela Marburger; brothers, Ezra Clarkson of Belzoni, Ms., Dwayne Clarkson of Mackinaw, and Alvadeen Clarkson of Hubby, Ar.; and sisters, Haley Price of Arkansas, Vivian Mooring of St. Louis, and Anna McDowell of Corning. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the St. Louis Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

John J. Garvey, 72, died Apr. 21, 1997. He married Betty Echols, who survives. Also surviving are a son, John, Jr., of Alton; a daughter, Julie Anderson of Alton; brothers, Thomas of Alton, Gerald of Godfrey, Robert of Alabama, and James of California; sisters, Katherine Boone and Joan Keller, both of Alton, and Madeline Herb and Rosemary Smith, both of Florida; and one grandchild. Services were through Staten.

Surviving are a son, Tim Garvey of Edwardsville; step-sons, Matt Kerley of Marine, and Mark Kerley of Alton; daughters, Tina Biro of Wood River, Sue Boschert of Alton, and Merrie Hawley of Chesterfield, Mo.; brothers, James of California, Robert of New York, and Gerald of Godfrey; and sisters, Madeline Smith of Florida, and Katherine Boone and Joan Keller, both of Alton. Services were in Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Memorials may be given to the capital fund of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, and the Mylona Foundation.

Services were through Fine and Quinn Chapel for Funerals in Alton. Memorials may be given to the Heifer Project and One Great Hour of Sharing at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton.

Lucille A. Gatheright, of Alton, died Aug. 22, 2000, in Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis. Her husband, Chalmus, survives. Services were through Cathy M. Williams and Sons Funeral Home in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the Bessie Nolan Scholarship Fund at St. Jame's Baptist Church in Alton, and the Southwestern Illinois Dialysis Center in East Alton.

Also surviving are daughters, Betty Stauffer of Bethalto, and JoAnn Cope of Alton; a brother, Jim of Wisconsin; and sisters, Laura Manns and Linda Maltbia, both of Alton; and a sister-in-law, Jill Gauf. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Howard of Cottage Hills; a step-brother, Edward Wedic of Branson, Mo.; and step-sisters, Marie Wedic and Genieve Kirey, both of Granite City, and Virginia Kittle of Venice. Mary Ann Gedda, 94, of Godfrey, died July 3, 1999, in D'Adrian Convalescent Center. Her husband, James, survives. Also surviving are a son, Andrew Perolio of Rocklin, Ca.; a daughter-in-law, Ann Perolio of Godfrey; sisters, Aurora Marmino and Lavera Houston, both of Alton; step-son, James Gedda; and step-daughter, Virginia Williams. Services were through Staten Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the Nursing Home Moniters in Godfrey, and the Alton Area Animal Aid Association.
