88-year-old Wayne City resident, Flora Smith died Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2002 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Survivors include daughters, Audrey Crockett of Wyoming, and Delores Ellis of Bluford; four sons, Bobbie Smith of Fairfield, Gary Smith of Cisne, Jack Smith of Wayne City and Tommy Smith of Dahlgren; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Flora Smith were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the York Funeral Home in Wayne City with burial in Garrison Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the York Funeral Home in Wayne City.
Joyce Buchanan
62-year-old Fairfield resident, Joyce Buchanan died at 10:25 Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2002 at Wayfair in Fairfield.
Survivors include her mother, Alberta Schott of Fairfield; a son, Julian Buchanan of Sims, a step-son, Don Buchanan of Peoria, a daughter, Juliet Khalaf of Lockport, N.Y., a brother, Jerry Schott of Fairfield; two sisters, Marla Nelson of Wayne City and Marlene Smith of Rinard. Five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren also survive.
Services for Joyce Buchanan were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield.

55-year-old Fairfield resident, Marie A. Timms died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Wayfair in Fairfield.
She is survived by her husband Bill Timms of Fairfield.
Funeral services for Marie A. Timms were at 11 a.m., Friday, April 19 at Johnson Funeral Home with burial at Hutsonville Cemetery in Hutsonville, IL.

James L. "Vern" Bevins
87-year-old Albion resident, James L. "Vern" Bevins died at 6:55 Monday evening, April 15, 2002 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was retired from Mobil Oil Co.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen; two sons, Robert of Lovington, Il., and Don of W. DesMoines, Iowa; two daughters, Kay Bailey of Albion and Lisa Spencer of Richardson, Tx., three brothers, Tom of Oklahoma, Frank of Texas, and Raymond of California; two sisters, Betsy and Ruby of Texas; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services for James L. "Vern" Bevins were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Nales Funeral Home in Albion with burial in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation was after 6 Wednesday, April 17, at Nales Funeral Home in Albion. Memorials may be made to the Edwards County Senior Citizens.
Nellie Canull
90-year-old former Fairfield resident, Nellie Canull of Mount Vernon died at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at the Nature Trails Nursing Home in Mount Vernon.
Survivors include a brother, Sam Cropper of Cobden, Il., a niece, Joann Dugger of Fairfield and a special friend, Flora Bell Tondini of Mt. Vernon.
Graveside services for Nellie Canull were at 10:30 Thursday, April 18 at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was from 9:30 Thursday morning until the time of service at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield.
John Henry Fankboner
75-year-old John Henry Fankboner of Springerton died at 3:50 Sunday morning, April 14th, 2002 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
His survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two step-daughters, Mary Jane Bauman of Leslie, MIchigan and Carol Irene Fulger of Green ville, MIchigan; a step-son, Clyde Burtis Rush, Jr of Enfield; a sister, Elenore Schaffer of Bozeman, Montana, eight step-grandchildren, fifteen step-great grandchildren.
Per Mr. Fankboner's wish, no public services wil be held.

Alberta Alexander of Rockford, Il., formerly of Wayne City, died Saturday morning, April 13th, 2002. She was around 80 years old.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews in the Wayne County area.

Doris E. Backstrom
78-year-old Cisne resident, Doris E. Backstrom died Friday morning, April 12, 2002 at the St. Mary's Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
She is survived by 4 daughters Iris Backstrom of Champaign, April Williams of Xenia, Shelly Bowles of Johnsonville, and Shannon Grilec of Evergreen Park, IL; 4 sons Lauren D. Backstrom of Romeoville, IL, Richard Backstrom of Clay City, Harley Backstrom of Holiday, FL, and Mark Backstrom of Mt. Vernon, IL. 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne with burial at the Cisne Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 at the Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne.

65-year-old Fairfield resident, Donald A. Laws died at 11:19 Thursday evening, April 11, 2002 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth; two sons, Scott Laws of Fairfield and Keith Laws of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Brenda Wininger of Brownsburg, IN and Lisa Schafel of Brownsburg, IN; two brothers, Victor Laws of Fairfield and Ralph Laws of Albion and one sister Phyllis Greifzu of Fairfield. 11 grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 17th at Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield, Indiana.
Visitation was Tuesday, April 16th from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.

59-year-old Rolla, Missouri resident, formerly of McLeansboro, Mrs. Karen Tolley Ellis, died at 10:40 Saturday morning, April 13th, 2002 at her home.
Survivors includeher mother, Ruth Tolley of McLeansboro, a daughter, Nanci Blackstone of Hickory Trials Lane, MO and two grandchildren.

Wilma Lowry
62-year-old former Wayne County resident, Wilma Lowry of Manhattan, IL died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago.
Her survivors include her husband, Gleason; a son, Steve of Joliet; two daughters, Elaine Rose and Connie Shiflet both of Joliet; two brothers, Gary Donoho formerly of Salem and Jerry Donoho of Orchardville; two sisters, Vicky Owens of Orchardville and Kay Sexton of Fairfield; her father, Rev. Leonard Donoho of Orchardville, and five grandchildren also survive.
