Geraldine A. Pastrovich nee Wallach, 83, of Waterloo, died July 11, 2005, in Belleville. She was born December 13, 1920, in Crescent, Mo., the daughter of the late Louis and Marie Wallach. She was married to the late Joseph F. Pastrovich. She is survived by her children Mary Lynn Hanchett of San Jose, Calif., Robert (Janet) Pastrovich of Waterloo, Marie (Lindell) Crump of Waterloo, and Mark (Joyce) Pastrovich of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren Glen (Denise) Crump, Matt (Cheryl) Crump, Joseph Pastrovich and Claire Pastrovich; great-grandchildren Dylan Crump and Sarah Crump; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother. Mrs. Pastrovich was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. She was a former 4-H leader, artist, gardener and seamstress. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was said by Msgr. Thomas Flach. She is buried at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the SPPS School Building Fund.
Helen Marie Philips nee Yoder, 79, of O’Fallon, died July 13, 2005, in Belleville. She was born on January 27, 1926, in Lake City, Mich., daughter of the late LeRoy Yoder and Marie Yoder nee Barton. She was married to the late James Edward Phillips II. She is survived by her daughters Louise (Mike) Foster of St. Louis, Cathy Heil of Cahokia, and Carol Gay Hobbs of Belleville; sons Richard Dennis (Vicki) Phillips of Kokomo, Ind., James Edward Phillips III of Encino, Calif., and Clint (Diana) Phillips of Millstadt; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Jack Yoder. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Pastor Kim Kelly officiating.
Diane Baum Miller, 77, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died June 24, 2005. Diane was born April 20, 1928, in Monroe City, to Harold G. and Edith Baum nee Gideon. She was married to the late Arlen Miller. She is survived by daughters: Cindy (Rocky) Kerr and Shawn (Ross) Clayton; son Geoff (Launa) Miller; brothers: Harold R. (Rosalie) Baum of Monroe City and Duane (Arlene) Baum of Wartburg; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons David Miller and Shane Miller and brother Noel Baum. She was a graduate of Monroe City Elementary School, Valmeyer High School, and Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, where she received her master’s degree in occupational therapy. She was retired from Benchmark Hospital in Salt Lake City. Funeral services and burial were at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary in Salt Lake City.
Shane Arlen Miller, 40, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died June 11, 2005. He was born June 9, 1965, to Arlen and Diane Baum Miller, formerly of Monroe City. He was engaged to Becky Leach. He is survived by his mother; fiancee; son Ian Miller; sisters Cindy (Rocky) Kerr and Shawn (Ross) Clayton; brother Geoff (Luana) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and brother David Miller. He was a loving and devoted father, helping with Scouts and as a coach for his son’s football team in South Jordan, Utah. Funeral services and burial were at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary in Salt Lake City.
Marjorie (Fox) Smith, 78, of Columbia, died Oct. 24, 2010, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo. She was born March 1, 1932, in Oakdale, the daughter of the late Loren and Florence (Magill) Fox. She married Leonard Smith in 1951 in Pinckneyville. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Marsha Stamm of Columbia; a son, Dennis Smith of Waterloo; daughter, Denise Oettle of Columbia; grandchildren James and Seann Stamm, Clinton and Angie Smith, and Christopher Oettle; four great-grandchildren; and brothers William (Katherine) Fox of North Henderson and Don (MaryAnn) Fox of Coulterville. She was preceded in death by brothers Robert and Paul Fox. Marjorie was a retired local beautician who also volunteered at charities. Visitation is Friday, Oct. 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lawlor Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral is Saturday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Jones officiating. Mrs. Smith with be buried at the Tilden Village Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her great-grandchildren's college education.
Eline van Hemert, 82 of Columbia, died Oct. 26, 2010 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Indonesia, the daughter of late Constant Allerd Rudolph and Bertha Victorine (nee Meulemans) Cormane. She was married to the late Hendrick van Hemert. He passed away in 1987. Mrs. van Hemert is survived by a son, Peter Michael van Hemert; daughter, Stella (Morris) Linnemann of Columbia; grandchildren Jessica (Chris) Packard of Columbia and Adam (Sahra) Linnemann of Columbia; great-grandchildren Sydney Packard and Nash Linnemann; along with two brothers and two sisters. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Eline was a homemaker and she loved to read and enjoyed riding her bicycle. There will be no visitation or funeral services, per Eline's request. A cremation will be held. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County.
Esther McCarthy, nee Nagel, 89, of Waterloo, died Oct. 27, 2010 in Belleville. She was born March 15, 1921 in Renault, the daughter of the late Frederick and Rose (nee Wells) Nagel. Mrs. McCarthy is survived by a daughter, Kimberly McCarthy; sister, Irene Keim; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Nagel; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kevin McCarthy; brothers Delbert, Oliver “Bud” and Oscar Nagel. Mrs. McCarthy was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Waterloo. Visitation is Friday, Oct. 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo. Funeral is Saturday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Cari Frus officiating. Douglas C. Busch, 45 of Waterloo, died Oct. 28, 2010 at his residence after a battle with prostate cancer. He was born Feb. 24, 1965 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Dorothy (nee DeBourge) Busch and the late Charles Busch. In addition to his mother, Mr. Busch is survived by his wife; Renee’ (nee Havey) Busch; children Meagan Renee' Busch and John Douglas Busch; dog, Jack; siblings John (Diane) Busch, Debbie Johnson, Carol (Rick) Schilling, Christy (Gerald) Stellhorn, Mike (Marti) Busch, Rick (Andrea) Busch, Cathy (Bob) Bush, Greg Busch, Jim (Susie) Busch, Dottie (Nick) Heimos, Chuck (Melissa) Busch, Tony (Tara) Busch and Charlene (John) Ahne; mother-in-law, Helen Havey; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Colleen and Jim Kreher and Shawn and Carl Kreher; along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John "Jack" Havey; brother-in-law, Roger Johnson; grandparents Cletus and Margaret DeBourge, Charles and Willamena Busch and uncle, Gary DeBourge. Mr. Busch attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. He was a Cub Scout leader and owned Busch Delivery Inc. Joseph H. Weilbacher, 72 of Columbia, died Oct. 29, 2010. He was born Oct. 15, 1938, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Frank and Hilda (Huch) Weilbacher. He married Arleen (Freimuth) Weilbacher in 1959 in Columbia. In addition to his wife, Mr. Weilbacher is survived by his daughters Christy Davis and Angela Brislin; grandchildren Joseph Brislin Jr., Renee Brislin and Shelby Davis; a sister, Frances Foster; brother-in-law, Robert Stahlmann; and sister-in-law, Ethel Weilbacher. He was preceded in death by his sisters Arlou Koch and MaryAnn Stahlmann; and brothers Willard and Norman Weilbacher. Mr. Weilbacher and his wife owned Columbia Decorating Center. He was a retired carpenter who also worked with the Columbia Unit School District’s transportation department. He was a member of Carpenters Local #1997 since 1960 and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. A memorial mass will be Monday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Mr. Weilbacher gifted his remains to the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Eugene Schorb - Immaculate Conception School Education Fund.
Lucille M. Brown-Fults, nee Doiron. 87, of Prairie du Rocher, died Oct. 29, 2010 in Red Bud. She was born Oct. 20, 1923, the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (nee Nevois) Doiron. Mrs. Brown-Fults is survived by her children Daniel (Diane) Brown, Donna (Roger) Bahl, Lloyd (Margie) Brown Jr., Diann (Richard) DeRousse, Karla (Rich) Schlesinger, Pam (August) Melching and Laura Gream; along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Mrs. Brown-Fults attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher and was a 53-year member of the Prairie du Rocher American Legion Auxiliary. Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 31, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Monday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher with Father Daniel Jurek officiating. Mrs. Brown-Fults will be buried at her church’s cemetery.
