Irene Lena Schubert, nee Helfrich, 93, of Millstadt, died Feb. 7, 2009, at Columbia Convalescent Center. She was born Dec. 9, 1915 in Paderborn, the daughter of the late Frank and Rosa (nee Sauzek) Helfrich. Mrs. Schubert is survived by her husband of 60 years, Walter Schubert; a son, Larry (Marlene) Schubert of Millstadt; daughters Diane (Jim) Jacob of Millstadt and Kay Ann "Kasey" (Gary) Neff of Smithton; grandchildren Angie (Barry) Jones, Bryan Schubert, Christie Schubert, Dustin Winter, Becky Neff and Ben Neff; great-granddaughter, Alexa Jones; sisters Betty Schaefer of Smithton and Priscilla (Albert "Bub") Noerper of Millstadt; and brother-in-law, Harvey Weilbacher of Columbia; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Schubert; and sisters Esther Reiniger and Bernice Weilbacher. Mrs. Schubert worked at the Millstadt Dress Factory, was a homemakers and was a member of the St. James Catholic Sodality and the Modern Woodsmen. She was known for baking tasty pies and cookies and she enjoyed quilting, bingo and spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and new great-granddaughter. Visitation was at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Funeral was at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt with Father Marvin Volk officiating. Mrs. Schubert was buried at Mt. Hilda Washausen, nee Wild, 89, of Waterloo died Feb. 9, 2009 with her children at her side. She was born July 10, 1919 in Burksville, the daughter of the late Daniel and Katherine (nee Keck) Wild Sr. Mrs. Washausen is survived by her children Marie (Dave) Dietz, Leroy (Jane) Washausen, Larry (Kathy) Washausen and John (Annette) Washausen; a daughter-in-law, Mary (Jack) Parr; grandchildren Darren (Stacie), Bryan (Julie), Scott, Keith (Donna), Kevin (Allison) and Tim (Jessica) Washausen, Donna (Larry) Riebeling, Angie Dulle and Clay (Debbie) and Chad (Pam) Dietz; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha (Ray) Washausen. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Washausen; a son, Marvin Washausen; brother, Dan Wild; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Anton and Laura Roider. Mrs. Washausen was retired from the Lincoln Trail Restaurant, was a member of St. Paul UCC of Waterloo and was devoted to her family. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo with Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. Mrs. Washausen was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Walter Dixon, 76, died Feb. 9, 2009. He was born Dec. 29, 1932m in Buckeys, Mo., the son of Thelma May Counce of Eminence, Mo., and the late Charlie Dixon. In addition to his mother, Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife, Gail (Williams) Dixon; daughters Sandy (Steve) Foster of Waterloo and Kim (Larry) Hampton of Waterloo; grandchildren Nick and Sara Foster, Ryan, Ross and Rachel Hampton; brothers Eugene (Jackie) Dixon of Eminence, Mo., Darryl (Vicky) Dixon of St. Louis, Mo., Franklin (Sharon) Dixon of Eminence, Mo., Edward (Fern) Dixon of Eminence, Mo., Larry (Joyce) Dixon of Mountain View, Mo., Gary (Joyce) Dixon of Cahokia; and a sister, Carolyn (Phil) Jakemon of Eminence, Mo. Mr. Dixon was veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired as a truck driver for National Foods in St. Louis, Mo. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home and on Friday, Feb. 13 at Duncan Funeral Home in Eminence, Mo. A funeral followed the second visitation. Mae Smith, 100, of Prairie du Rocher, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at the Garden Place in Red Bud. She was born May 21, 1908 in Prairie du Rocher, the daughter of the late Emil and Emily (nee Melliere) Laurent. She married Ted Smith in 1934 in St. Louis, Mo. He died in 1964. Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Tom (Joan) Smith of Ruma; grandchildren Brian (Nancy) Smith of Smithton, Patrick (Dorothy) Smith of Arlington Heights; Christy (Michael) Redmer of Carol Stream; Suzanne (Eric) Pierson of Fishers, Ind., and Ted Smith of St. Louis, Mo.; and great-grandchildren Natasha Smith, Ivan Smith and Audrey Pierson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings Charles Laurent, Oda Bachelier, Delores Haltenhof, Wilbur Laurent, Mary Stratmann, Leona Kennedy, Louise "Kitty" Vogt and Thomas Laurent. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher and was a former member of the Senior Citizens of Prairie du Rocher. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 13 at Welge-Pechachek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral was Saturday, Feb. 14, 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher with Father Thomas Stout officiating. Irene Gummersheimer, 94, of Columbia, died Feb. 27, 2009, at Canterbury Manor Nursing Center in Waterloo. She was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Linn, Mo., the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Busch) Ahrens. She was married to the late John L. Gummersheimer. Mrs. Gummersheimer is survived by a son, son, James (Diane Daugherty) Gummersheimer of Columbia; granddaughter, Marla (Robert) Walters of Columbia; great-grandchildren Jacob Eric Hill, Hannah Marie Walters and Sophia Irene Walters; a sister, Pearl Stock of St. Charles, Mo.; and sisters-in-law Theresa Collier of Columbia and Anna Joyce of Texas; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Gummersheimer, and a brother, Arthur Joyce. Mrs. Gummersheimer was a member of St. Paul UCC in Columbia, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Columbia Gymnastic Association Auxiliary. Visi-tation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Lee Pour, 73, of Red Bud, died Feb. 27, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 14, 1935, in Hecker, the son of the late Walter and Rose (nee Eichenseer) Pour. He married Darlene Rehmer in 1960 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pour is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Pour of O'Fallon and Michael (Judy) Pour of Red Bud; grandchildren Matthew, Alicia, Travis and Brittney; brothers Robert (Gloria) Pour of Belleville and Joe (Marcella) Pour of Waterloo; sisters Adele (Eugene) Maurer of New Athens and Ethel (Owen) Masterson of Belleville; a brother-in-law, Clement (Carol) Schaefer of Red Bud; and sisters-in-law Audrey Pour of Belleville and Mary (Ronald) Braun of Red Bud; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Albert Pour, twin brother Louis Pour and Paul Pour; sisters Rita Schaefer and Albert (Clyde) Heidger. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Charlotte Sturm, 85, of Columbia, died Feb. 25, 2009, at Atrium Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Cahokia. She was born March 2, 1923, in Fairfield, Neb., the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Fosbury) White. Mrs. Sturm is survived by her brothers, Henry and Paul White; a niece, Joyce Benitez; and dear friend, Anna Bunton. She was preceded in death by her son, Stanley Ray Taylor. She was retired from Famous-Barr in St. Louis, Mo. Private family services were held with Lawlor Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Mrs. Sturm was buried at Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield, Neb.
Jack E. Branson, 67, of Waterloo, died Feb. 25, 2009, in Red Bud. He was born Sept. 21, 1941, in Waterloo, the son of the late Blufford and Ione (nee Fischer) Branson. Mr. Branson is survived by his wife, Elsie (nee Dickneite) Branson; children Timothy (Mary) Branson and Julie (Troy) Potts; grandchildren Tara (Billy) Johnson, Amanda Branson, Max Hiller and Amber Branson; a great-grandson, Cody Johnson; sisters Joyce (Floyd) Zipfel, Karen Harbison and Nadine (Joseph) Feldker; a brother-in-law, Donald O'Connor; and a sister-in-law, Linda Branson; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters Phyllis Boehne and Joan O'Connor; brothers Donald and Keith Branson; and brothers-in-law Charles Harbison and Robert Boehne. Jacqueline Renee Kirchhoefer, nee Nast, 41, of Millstadt, died Feb. 23, 2009, at her residence. She was born Aug. 9, 1967, in Fairbanks, Alaska, the son of Ray and Betty Nast. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kirchhoefer is survived by her husband, Andrew Kirchhoefer; daughters Krystal (Darrell) Chamberlain and Alexis Carmack; grandsons Riley Chamberlain and Tanner Robert-Jack Chamberlain; sisters Linda (Lyle) Haas and Debbie (Jerry) Carins; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jeremey Nathan Crossno, 29, of Waterloo, died Feb. 23, 2009, in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Aug. 31, 1979, in St. Louis, Mo. He was survived by his mother, Patricia (Gene) Largent of Waterloo; maternal grandmother, Irene Moore; paternal grandparents William and Lucille Largents; aunts and uncles Mike and Becky Crook, Kathleen Plummer, Virgil and Karri Moore, Jim and Rita Trantham, Joe and Lisa Moore, Robert and Tina Moore and William and Debbie Largent; and cousins Debra Bailey, Mike and Chad Crook, Virgil (Petie), John, Stefani, Robert and Kimberli Moore, Kathleen, Jennifer, and Andria Trantham, Amanda and Heather Moore, Connor and Lucas Moore and Ethan, Kyle and Collin Largent. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Virgil Moore. Jeremey enjoyed working with computers, playing video games and designing the grand finale at the annual family Fourth of July celebration. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home.
