Mrs. Carol Jean Solomon
Carol Jean Solomon, 64, of Palmyra, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000 in a vehicular accident in Yellowstone National park, Wyoming. She was born November 24, 1935 in rural Palmyra, a daughter of Leland Elsworth and Grace Elizabeth Morris Loveless. She married Vernon lee Solomon on July 15, 1960 in Sherman, Illinois and he was killed in the same accident.
Surviving are one son: Gary A. (Andy) Solomon of Palmyra; one daughter, Terry (husband Ray) Baber of York, Arizona, two grandsons: Andrew and William Baber, one brother: James Loveless of Modesto, one sister: Lydia Ann Renninger of Tampa, Florida; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother: Richard Loveless; and four sisters: Ruth Madison, Peggy Joyce Loveless, Kay Loveless, and Margaret Y. Claussen .
Mrs. Solomon was an assembler at Dickey-John Corporation in Auburn, Illinois, a member of Honda Riders Club, Chapter 15 of Jacksonville; GoldWing Road Riders Association, Chapter T of Springfield, Palmyra American Legion Auxiliary Post # 1034, Modesto Methodist Church and Palmyra Christian Church.
Joint Services for Mr. and Mrs. Solomon will be held at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 1000 in Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials are suggested to Northwestern Rescue Squad or Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Nelson E. Spaenhower
Nelson E. Spaenhower, 62, of Jacksonville died Friday evening, January 19, 2001 at his residence. He was born on August 24, 1938 in Jacksonville the son of Charles Durward Thomas and Dorothy Opal Waggener Spaenhower. He married Louella Fuelling on June 1, 1958 near Arenzville and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Jodi (wife, Tammy) Spaenhower of Champaign and Michael Northrop of Jacksonville; one daughter, Kimberly (husband, Allen) Bryson of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, and one sister, Connie (husband, Gary) Sweatman of Gosport, Indiana.
After completing his education, Mr. Spaenhower operated the Gulf Service Station on the corner of North Main and Walnut. He then went to work at Mobil Chemical where he helped develop the “Hefty” line of garbage bags. He later operated MFA/Shelter Insurance Agencies in Jacksonville and Beardstown and for 19 years he was an account executive with MCI, previously Teleconnect and Telcom USA. Mr. Spaenhower also owned and operated Spaenhower Honey Bee Farm near Jacksonville.
Mr. Spaenhower was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a member of the Jacksonville Jaycees, had been a Boy Scout Leader for 20 years, and coached Bronco and Colt League baseball. He was a former member of the Jacksonville Sportsman’s Club. Mr. Spaenhower enjoyed participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed playing cards and talking with friends over coffee at local establishments.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at the Salem Lutheran Church with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or Woodhaven Hospice.

Floyd E. Spainhower
Floyd E. Spainhower, 85, of Danville and formerly of Jacksonville, died Monday morning, December 11, 2000 at the Danville Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Danville. He was born on May 11, 1915 in Jacksonville the son of Robert M. and Ruth Sperry Spainhower.
Mr. Spainhower is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Earl and Charles.
Mr. Spainhower was a truck driver for Chanen’s Incorporated. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of AMVETS and American Legion Post 279 in Jacksonville, and had been a Golden Gloves Championship boxer.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2000 at East Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Mrs. Linda Christine Stanley
Linda Christine Stanley, 60, of Milton, died Thursday afternoon, August 10, 2000 at memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born August 4, 1940 in Baylis , the daughter of Jerome Bishop and Lydia Irene Whitaker Campbell. She married Carroll Stanley on May 14, 1959, in Hillview and he survives in Milton.
She is also survived by her mother, a son, Richard Charles of Milton; four sisters: Brenda Steven of Springfield, Grace (husband, Jerry) Helm and Frances Faulkner, both of Canton, and Mary Herst of St. Louis; two brothers: Larry (wife, Gayle) Campbell of Viola and John Richard (wife, Rebecca) Campbell of Lewiston; 39 nieces and nephews; five aunts and one uncle. She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Stanley was a 1959 graduate of East Pike High School in Milton. She cared for people in their homes and also cared for children for several years. She was a member of the Milton Baptist Church and was active there until it dissolved.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, with burial at Smith Cemetery near Milton. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Regional Dialysus Center at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Mr. Marvin Earl Stayton
Marvin Earl Stayton, 87, of Scottville, died on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born on January 9, 1913, near Carlinville, the son of William Thomas and Clarissa may Dundon Stayton. He married Doris Lee Ruyle on May 12, 1937 and she preceded him in death on January 3, 1990.
He is survived by one son, Walter (wife, Brenda) of Green view; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Kenneth Irving, Ted William and Herley Francis; and five sisters: Ina Maude Parrott, Iva May Straub, Lela Brown, Velma Isla Oiler and Zula Fern Greider.
Mr. Stayton was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Scottville Christian Church, Terry Park Association, Carlinville Prime Timers Senior Citizens and Area Men’s Christian Fellowship.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Scottville Christian Church, with burial at the Hettick Point Cemetery in Scottville. The family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra and at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to the Scottville Christian Church.

Mr. David L. Stevens
David L. Stevens, 84, of South Jacksonville died Monday morning, May 22, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on September 4, 1915 Cerro Gordo the son of David and Alta Beale Stevens. He married Sue Swann on July 23, 1955 in Cortland, Ohio and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, David Lee Stevens of Jacksonville and one brother, Joe Stevens of Carmichael, California. He was preceded in death by one son, Grant Byron Stevens, and eight brothers and sisters.
Mr. Stevens was a braille specialist from 1946 to 1977 at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, where he transcribed books into braille. He attended Illinois College for two years and graduated from Millikin University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. Mr. Stevens was a member of the Jacksonville Elks Club and enjoyed playing pinochle, and had participated in the Knights of Columbus Pinochle Tournament.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, food, or monetary donations to the family, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Hellen Elaine Stewart (Griffith)
Hellen Elaine Stewart, age 43, of rural Roodhouse, died Monday
afternoon, Sept. 4, 2000 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Oct. 26, 1956 in White Hall, the daughter of Everett
Charles and Lorraine Powell Griffith.
She married Clifford Stewart on April 27, 1987 in Bowling Green ,
Missouri and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Mark Everett (wife, Mary) Griffith
of Carrollton and Robert Lee (wife, Jessica) Edwards, Jr. of White Hall; one
daughter, Bobby Jo Elaine Edwards of Roodhouse; four grandchildren; one
brother, Everett Griffith of White Hall; two sisters, Adelene Seymoure of
White Hall; Virginia Wells of Virginia; three step-sisters, Lisa Bran of
Meredosia; Crystal Reynolds of Carrollton and Michelle Reynolds of White
Hall. She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Griffith; her mother,
Lorraine Reynolds; one son, Robert Allen Edwards and one brother, Allen
Griffith.
Mrs. Stewart was a certified nurses aid at the White Hall Multicare
Center for many years. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, being
outdoors and riding horses. She was always looking after the needs of
others.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at
the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Mary Anne Stewart (Scheferkort)
Mary Anne Stewart, 39, of Franklin died Thursday, July 27, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born December 9, 1960 in Peoria, Illinois the daughter of John and Patricia Boyer Scheferkort. She married Wayne Lee “Weiner” Stewart on February 12,1977 in Franklin and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Misti Marie Stewart of Chatham; one son, Derek Wayne Stewart at home; her parents, John and Pauline “Pat” Scheferkort; her birth mother; three brothers: John “Joe” Scheferkort of Roodhouse; William “Butch” (wife, Bonnie) Scheferkort of Denver, Colorado; Henry Scheferkort of Roodhouse; two sisters: Janice (husband, Harold) Atterberry of Ellsbury, Missouri; and Teresa (husband, Mark) Robson of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Stewart was employed at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Jacksonville in the Training and Development Center for Customer Service. She received her G.E.D. in 1979. She was a member of the Catholic faith. She was a loving mother and will be sadly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2000 at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Franklin Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 2-6 on Sunday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Phyllis E. Stewart
Phyllis E. Stewart, 51, of Jacksonville died Thursday afternoon, August 3, 2000 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield. She was born on May 9, 1949 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Ivan and Virginia Carter Stewart.
She is survived by her mother of Jacksonville, one sister, Kathy Stewart of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three brothers. Steven (wife, Lori) Stewart of Jacksonville, Harold Stewart of Elgin, and Robert Stewart of Green wood, Mississippi; four nieces, Christy Stewart of Jacksonville, Stephanie Stewart of St. Louis, and Shayna Stewart and Jamie Stewart, both of Jacksonville; and two nephews, Joshua Stewart of Jacksonville and Joey Stewart of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her father, one sister: JoEllen and two brothers: Byron Stewart and Ivan Stewart, Jr.
Ms. Stewart graduated from Illinois College and Passavant School of Nursing in 1970. She was a registered nurse for 30 years, most recently employed at Doctor’s Hospital in Springfield. Prior to that, she had been at Norris Hospital in Jacksonville, St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, and was Director of Nursing at Dirksen House in Springfield. She was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Franklin Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Ronald McDonald House, St. John’s Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Milton Stimpson
Milton S. Stimpson, 78, of Jacksonville died Saturday evening, December 30, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on July 5, 1922 in Colorado Springs, Colorado the son of William and Roberta Close Stimpson.
He is survived by his special friend, Vivian Pond of Jacksonville; two daughters, two sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Marie McDonald.
Mr. Stimpson had been a technician at the Jacksonville Developmental Center prior to his retirement. He had served in the United States Army during World War II from 1940-1944 and received the Purple Heart for his efforts. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. James F. "Jim" Stone
James F. “Jim” Stone, 62, of Carrollton formerly of Sullivan, Ill. passed away unexpectedly at his resdence on Sunday Sept. 3, 2000.
Born in Sullivan on Feb. 24, 1938 he was the son of Alta Mae Mathias Stone of Sullivan and the late Don O. Stone.
He married the former Pat Feist on April 26, 1956 in Dalton City, Il. and she survives. Also surviving are a son James Stone of Jacksonville and a daughter Mrs. Russell “Lynn” Dunham of Eldred. 1 granddaughter: Misty
Dunham and a great grandchild: Cavan Boyd Chilsted. 2 brothers also survive: Don R. Stone of Leslie, Ark. and Gary W. Stone of Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Stone had most recently worked for Green e Co. Farm Supply until his retirement due to ill health in 1989. He was a member of the Eldred Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton with services at 7 P.M. that evening. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan from 5-8 P.M. Graveside rites will be held on Friday at 10 A.M. at the Green Hill Cemetery in Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the Eldred Baptist Church or to the family.

Mrs. Dovey M. Stout (Dawdy)
Dovey M. Dawdy Stout, age 83, of Jacksonville, died Sunday morning, July 30,
2000 at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville.
She was born July 8, 1917 in Patterson, the daughter of Grover and Florence Ford
Dawdy.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Stout of Springfield and Judy
Montgomery of Pleasant Plains; one son, James E. Stout of Phoenix, Arizona; four
grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Ethel) Simons of Springfield and Leona
Marsh of Pana. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Dawdy and Raymond
Dawdy and one sister, Lula Anderson.
Mrs. Stout graduated in 1938 from Our Saviour School of Nursing. She was a
registered nurse for 50 years, having been employed at Our Saviour Hospital, also in
Boulder, Colorado and Modern Care Convalescent Facility, retiring in 1990. She was a
4-H leader, Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout leader and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the Pine Tree Cemetery near
Patterson. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s
choice.

Mrs. Verna L. Stratton
Verna Necile Stratton, 92 of Carlinville and formerly of Palmyra died Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at Carlinville area hospital in Carlinville.
She was born on January 3, 1908 in Waverly, the daughter of Robert Francis and Emma Adella Cranfield Robson.
She is survived by three sons, Arthur (wife, Muriel) of Jacksonville; Donald (wife, Linda) of Springfield, Tennessee; and James (wife, Ruth) of Belle Plain. Iowa; two daughters: Barbara (husband, Brad) Dunn of Decatur and Marilyn (husband, Melvin) Mohs of Palmyra; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; 37 great-great grandchildren; one brother, James (wife, Kathryne) Robson, of Jacksonville; and one sister, Mary Baxley of California.
Mrs. Stratton was a member of Palmyra Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2000 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Northwestern Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Mardell Strowmatt (Castleberry)
Mardell Strowmatt, age 83, of White Hall, died Sunday afternoon,
July 30, 2000 at her residence.
She was born March 7, 1917 in White Hall, the daughter of Silas and
Mamie Wooldridge Castleberry.
She married Lloyd M. Strowmatt on April 26, 1936 in Springfield and
he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dick (Zenita) Meek of
White Hall; three grandchildren, Tawny McElroy of Springfield, Eric Meek
of White Hall and Misty Dawdy of Woodson; four great grandchildren,
Ciara, Mitchell, Carly and Connor; and one sister, Mrs. Shirley (Glendola)
Westnedge of White Hall. She was preceded in death by one daughter,
Twila; two brothers, Ray Gene Castleberry and Carl Castleberry and two
sisters, Mildred Young and Dorothy Young.
Mrs. Strowmatt was a member of the White Hall First Christian
Church for 65 years and was a member of the Harmony Sunday school
class. She was very active in her church and loved to spend time with her
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She worked at Rohm and Haas
Laboratory in White Hall for 20 years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2000
at the White Hall First Christian Church with burial in the Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. Family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Tuesday at the White Hall First Christian Church. Memorials are suggested
to the White Hall First Christian Church or Blessing Hospice of Green e
County.
