Harold W. Suiter
Harold W. Suiter, 73, of Jacksonville died Saturday afternoon, December 23, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on July 12, 1927 in Jacksonville the son of Everett and Mabel Stevens Suiter. He married Frances J. Wankel on September 24, 1949 at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Brian Suiter of Rossville, Kevin D. Suiter of Jacksonville, and David (wife, Tonya) Suiter of Taylorville; two daughters, Diane K. Trueblood of Chatham and Karen J. (husband, Brad) Runyard of Byron; and six grandchildren, Racheal, Michael, Jessica, Brett, Kelli, and Lauren.
Mr. Suiter was an Estimating Engineer and Purchasing Agent for Caldwell Engineering in Jacksonville, and several other engineering firms. He served in the United States Army following World War II, and as a sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Suiter was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church or The Salvation Army.
Mr. Harvey J. Surbeck
Harvey J. Surbeck, age 68, of Patterson, died Thursday evening, Oct
26, 2000 at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
He was born Dec. 5, 1931 in Springfield, the son of Harvey T. and
Stella Dawdy Surbeck.
He married Bernice E. Hazelwood on Sept. 6, 1951 in Carrollton and
she preceded him in death on May 20, 2000.
He is survived by three stepdaughters, Carol Nicholson of Alton;
Verna Goddard of Jerseyville and Rayma Anders of Glasgow; six step
grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; two brothers, Glendon
Surbeck of Mascoutah and Donald Surbeck of Louisville, Kentucky; and
two sisters, Darlene Brennan of Springfield and Pat Maziorka of Arlington,
TX. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Surbeck and one
sister, Tina Powell.
Mr. Surbeck was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church near
Patterson. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict in the 5th RCT
and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a laborer out of the Central
Laborers Union in Jacksonville.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at
the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home
in White Hall is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bernice E. Surbeck (Hazelwood)
Bernice E. Surbeck, age 77, of Patterson, died Saturday afternoon,
May 20, 2000 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born Jan. 27, 1923 in Hillview, the daughter of Troy Earl and
Laura Bell Leonard Hazelwood.
She married Harvey J. Surbeck on Sept. 6, 1951 in Carrollton and he
survives.
She is also survived by three daughters, Carol Nicholson of Alton;
Verna Dotson of Jerseyville and Rayma Anders of Glasgow; 6
grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Keith Hazelwood of
Hillview, Cloyd Hazelwood of White Hall, Clyde Hazelwood of
Jacksonville and John Hazelwood of St. Louis, MO; and 3 sisters, Ruth
Dawdy of White Hall, Beulah Harbison of Jacksonville and Martha Mathis
of Medora. She was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter, 1 grandson, 2
brothers, Russell & Donald Hazelwood and 3 sisters, DeeDee Newingham,
Guyla Hazelwood and Rula Hazelwood.
Mrs. Surbeck was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, west
of White Hall and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America in
Patterson. She enjoyed crafts and was a huge Cardinals baseball fan. Her
hobbies were cooking, flowers and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at
the funeral home.
Mrs. Faye G. Sutton
Faye G. Sutton, 82, of Jacksonville died Sunday evening, August 13, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born on September 10, 1917 in Winchester the daughter of Douglas and Lecie Christison Smothers. She married Edward H. Sutton on November 9, 1945 in Lafayette, Indiana and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1988.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet Krueger of Jacksonville, and one grandson, Eric Krueger, who was raised in her home. She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Smothers King.
Mrs. Sutton was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, Wilbur Chapter; Mound Home Extension, and Jacksonville Women’s Club.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2000 at the First Baptist Church. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private committal service will be held at Winchester City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Clarabell Swarringim (Probst)
Clarabell Swarringim, age 79, of White Hall, died early Wednesday
morning, Dec. 27, 2000 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
She was born May 24, 1921 in Green field, the daughter of Albert and
Iva Bennett Probst.
She married Clyde Henry Swarringim on Sept. 13, 1949 in Green field
and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1982.
She is survived by five sons, Bobby Joe Skaggs of Plantersville,
Mississippi; David Swarringim of Fidelity; Dennis Swarringim of
Roodhouse; Danny Swarringim of Winchester and Clyde H. Swarringim, Jr.
of Griggsville; four daughters, Melba Walker of Pittsfield; Joann Arii of
Guam; Donna Northcutt of Roodhouse and Elsie Swarrringim of St. Louis,
MO; 23 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two brothers, Marty
Probst of Green field and Harlem “Boss” Probst of Palmyra. She was
preceded in death by three daughters, Shirley Ann, Sharon Sue and an infant
daughter and six brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at
the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the White
Hall Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of services
Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the
donor’s choice.
Mr. Edgar Leroy Sweet
Edgar Leroy Sweet, 92, of Franklin, died Saturday, December 30, 2000 at the Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.
He was born on December 12, 1908 at the family home North of Franklin, the son of Edgar L and Lula Peak Sweet. He married Geneva Hart on August 30, 1930 and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Anne (husband, Ed) Roberts of Fairfield, Arkansas ; two sons: Richard (wife, Frances) of Wichita, Kansas and Harry (wife, Diane) of St. Louis; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Sweet was a graduate of Franklin High School and with the exception of one year that he spent in California, he lived his entire life in the Franklin community. He was a devoted member and Elder of the Franklin Christian Church. He became Elder Emeritus in 1995. He was the President of the Franklin Cemetery Association for 42 years. He was a devoted member of the Franklin Lions Club and a District Governor of Lions International. In his earlier years, he was a Scout Master to a very active scout troop and was leader of a 4-H club. He was a Past Master of the Franklin Masonic Lodge and Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He served on a committee for the formation of Lincoln Land Community College, and was Secretary of the Franklin School Board. Over a period of years, he served on many state and county farm related groups and committees.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at the Franklin Christian Church, with burial at Franklin Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Franklin Christian Church, where Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Franklin Christian Church Building Fund or to Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. The Neece Funeral Home in Franklin is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Marcene E. Taylor (McCarter)
Marcene E. Taylor, age 84, of Pittsfield, Ill. died Friday evening (November 10, 2000) at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Ill..
She was born February 12, 1916 in Pike County, Ill. daughter of the late Carl and Ruth Irick McCarter.
She married T. Jack Taylor on May 4, 1940 in Yuma, Arizona and he preceded her in death in 1972.
Surviving is one daughter, Marcene Lacy of Pittsfield, Ill.; two sons, Marcus K. Taylor and wife Linda of Overland Park, Kansas and Matthew K. Taylor and wife Nancy of Pittsfield, Ill.; six grandchildren, Cris Taylor of Joplin, Mo. and Megan Taylor of Overland Park, Kansas, Mrs. Andy (Shelley) Olson of Hazelwood, Mo., Jenny Taylor of Pittsfield, Ill., and Shane and Brandon Turnage both of Pittsfield, Ill.; and one great-grandchild, Ashley Taylor of Joplin, Mo .
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Carl Taylor; and one sister, Mrucille McCarter.
Mrs. Taylor was a bookkeeper for the old R.C. Gray Chevrolet, Peter’s Chevrolet and Maxwell’s Production Credit Association all in Pittsfield, Ill. and was an active volunteer at Illini Community Hospital’s Coffee Shop for many years. She also helped to distribute Meals on Wheels in the Pittsfield community.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Frank Claybourne officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. till the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Illini Hospital Coffee Shop or to the Pittsfield West Cemetery.
Mrs. Letha E. Taylor
Letha E. Taylor, 82, of Pittsfield, died Friday evening , August 4, 2000 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born October 17, 1917 in rural Calhoun County, the daughter of Frank and Lula David Gant. She married James Taylor, and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1983.
She is survived by two sons, Leonard of Tampa, Florida and Jim of Nebo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son: Delbert Ray; and four brothers: Lawrence, Ralph, Lonnie and Lee Gant.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2000 at the Griggsville Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in care of the funeral home. The Skinner-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Tedrow (Shinn)
Mary Elizabeth Tedrow, age 91, of Quincy, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died Saturday morning(June 24, 2000)at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill..
She was born August 27, 1908 in Griggsville, Illinois daughter of the late John Fielding and Dorothy Rose Loutzenhiser Shinn.
She married Warren S. Tedrow on December 25, 1940 in Palmyra, Mo. and he preceded her in death on August 4, 1994.
Surviving is one step-son, Jim Tedrow of Quincy, Ill.; two step-grandchildren, Benjamin Tedrow of Quincy, Ill. and Mrs. Brad (Tracy) Brown of Bloomington, Ill.; four step-great grandchildren; two nieces, Mrs. Don (Rose) Wolfley of Griggsville, Ill. and Mrs. Tom (Susan) Barr of Birmingham, Ala.; two nephews, Robert Bergman of Las Vegas, Nevada and Phil Bergman of Hannibal, Mo.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters, Florence Shafer, Mabel Harrelson, Alice Shinn, and Dorothy Bergman; and five brothers, Charles Wesley Shinn, James K. Shinn, Richard E. Shinn, John Shinn, and one in infancy.
Mrs. Tedrow graduated from Griggsville High School in Griggsville, Ill. and attended MacMurry College in Jacksonville, Ill. and Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill.
She then taught school in elementary schools in Palmyra, Ill. and Virginia, Ill. She left teaching following her marriage. She then farmed with her husband on the Tedrow family farm near New Salem, Ill. until his death in 1994. She then moved to Quincy, Ill.
She was a member of the Griggsville United Methodist Church, the Pike County Farm Bureau, and a former member of the Old Orchard Country Club in Pittsfield, Ill..
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday (June 27, 2000) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery near New Salem, Ill.. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Gray Cemetery, Griggsville United Methodist Church or to the New Salem United Methodist Church.
Katherine L. Templin (Lippert)
Katherine L. Templin, 74, of Jacksonville died early Saturday morning, November 11, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born on April 7, 1926 near Arenzville the daughter of William and Nina Yeck Lippert. She married Kenneth E. Templin on January 31, 1959 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on December 26 1999.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (husband, David) Blanchette and Karyn (husband, Rusty) Hicks, both of Jacksonville; two sons, Kurt Templin of Murrayville and Kris (fiancé, Becky Mathis) Templin of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren; and five sisters, Mildred Wedeking of Beardstown, Ruth (husband, Robert) Linebaugh of Nevada, Frances Little of Winchester, Helen (husband, Donald) Ervin of South Jacksonville, and Sharon (husband, John) Wingler of Woodson.
Mrs. Templin had worked at Warga’s Drug Store on the square in Jacksonville and also at Mid-State Photo Lab. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, volunteered at local schools and was a Cub Scout Leader. She was a blood donor and enjoyed gardening, flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Oscar B. "Jack" Terrell
Oscar B. “Jack” Terrell, 89, of Winchester died Friday afternoon (June 30, 2000) at the Convalescent Care Center in Mattoon, IL.
He was born December 17, 1910 in Winchester the son of the late John O. and Carrie Mayers Terrell.
He married Dorothy Albers December 6, 1935 in Jacksonville.
Mr. Terrell attended Bloomfield Country School. He was a farmer and a member of the Bloomfield Baptist Church. He helped care for the Bloomfield Cemetery and served as the Cemetery Treasurer for over 50 years.
Mr. Terrell was preceded in death by his parents, a son Charles, a sister Grace Boester.
Surviving is his wife Dorothy in Mattoon, his son Donald Terrell of Mattoon, a sister Phoebe Little of Winchester. 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday July 7, 2000 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery north west of Winchester.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM on Thursday July 6, 2000 at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
