Baumberger, Robert E.
Robert E. Baumberger, formerly of the area, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999, in Fraser Health Center, Hilton Head Island, S.C. He was 88 years old on January 14. He was one of the first city managers in the country and from 1939 to 1956 served Ludlow, Vt., Casleton, Vt., Mill Valley, Calif., Boulder, Colo., and Superior, Wis. From 1956 to 1978, under the auspices of various federal, state and local programs, he was a public administration consultant to the governments of Ethiopia, Iran and Saudi Arabia, as well as numerous municipalities across the United States. He moved to Hilton Head in 1978, from Evanston, Ill. Son of Harry N. and Flora Potter Baumberger, he was born in St. Louis and reared in Green ville, where he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He earned a bachelor's degree in general engineering from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Cincinnati. Surviving are his wife, the former Martha Louis Kail; sons, Roger K. Baumberger of Forest Hills, Long Island, N.Y., Bruce G. Baumberger of Evanston; daughters, Barbara Crane of Bethesda, Md., Linda Behling of Hilton Head; sister, Ruth DeCosted of St. Louis; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held on Hilton Head Island at 10:30 a.m. November 13. Island Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Bayon, Mildred Schimke
Services for Mildred Schimke Bayon, of Mt. Olive, will be held Tuesday in St. Patrick's Church at South Hadley, Mass. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery at Holyoke. Service was conducted locally on Sunday at Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive, with the Rev. Father Larry Anschutz officiating. The family suggests memorials be directed to Cystic Fibrosis or to the St. Francis Hospital Foundation. Mrs. Bayon, formerly of South Hadley, died at 7:40 p.m. Friday, August 7, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 84 years old on July 8. She was a medical secretary in the office of Dr. Calixto Aquino, Litchfield, from 1972 until she retired in 1980. She also was a medical secretary for the Dr. Harry Yaeger, Litchfield, from 1969 to 1972, and worked in the business office at St. Francis Hospital from 1968 to 1969. She was a 1931 graduate of South Hadley High School and worked from 1932 to 1941 as secretary and switchboard operator at Mt. Holyoke College. In Mt. Olive she was a member of the Church of the Ascension, the library board, the Lions Club auxiliary, and the volunteer fire department auxiliary. She loved music, bird watching and crossword puzzles. She was born in South Hadley, a daughter of Emil and Mildred Katura Scott Schimke. She married Robert M. Bayon on April 20, 1940, in Holyoke. He died January 7, 1987. Surviving are a son, Peter M. Bayon and wife Deborah of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters, Gretchen Martin of Arlington, Va., Susan Scheller and husband Wilbert E. of Mt. Olive; sister, Phyllis Bannerman of South Hadley; six grandchildren, Michael Scheller of Chicago, Tina Gretak of Mt. Olive, Andrew Scheller of Mt. Olive, Matthew Martin of Chicago, Joshua Martin of Alexandria, Va., Ashleen Kennedy of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a sister, Helen Watson in 1985 and brothers, Charles Schimke in 1996 and Robert Schimke in 1996.

Services for William J. Beadles, father of Patricia Kasten of Hillsboro, were held this morning in Albion with burial in Graceland Cemetery there. Mr. Beadles died Sunday, July 18, 1999, in Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Ind. He was 77 years old on June 17, and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was born in Velpin, Ind., son of Joseph Everett and Edith Pearl Dearing Beadles. He married Hazel L. Harris in Princeton, Ind. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Roger Beadles of Ellery, Jonathon Beadles of Carmi; another daughter, Angela Locke of Mill Shoals; abrother, Samuel Beadles of Princeton, Ind.

Services for Nadine Beaman will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis, with the Rev. Dale Best officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pana. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Mrs. Beaman, of Wonder Lake, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 1998, in Northern Illinois Medical Center at McHenry. She was 78 years old on February 15. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hebron. She was born a daughter of Myrvel and Mary McCaslin Barker. Her husband, Samuel Beaman, died February 12, 1965. Surviving are sons, Larry Beaman of Claremore, Okla., Roy Beaman of McHenry, Harold Beaman of Nokomis, Robert Beaman of Wonder Lake, Ben Beaman of Ringwood; daughters, Marjorie O'Hallerman of Twin Lakes, Wis., Grace Eskridge of Hebron; brothers, Lloyd Barker of Ringwood, Myrvel and Ralph Barker, both of Nokomis; sisters, Lydia Kettelkamp, Viola Frazier, also of Nokomis; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Beane died Wednesday, February 10, 1999, in an early morning single car accident on Montgomery road at West County Line road in northwestern Montgomery County. She was 34 years old on December 7. She was employed by the Illinois State Police as an administrative assistant, and was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Girard. She was a 1983 graduate of Virden High School. She was born in Springfield, a daughter of Gerald F. "Bud" and Mary Jo Norris Knudson. She married John K. Beane in 1990 in Farmersville. Surviving are her husband, John; a daughter, Alexandra M. Beane of Virden; father and stepmother, Gerald F. "Bud" and Judith Knudson of Girard; mother, Mary Jo Knudson of Girard; brothers, Daniel E. He was 76 years old on September 22, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and also worked for the Farm Service in Irving. He was born in Witt, a son of Frank H. and Jesse Martin Beasley. He married Merwyn Pieper on March 3, 1948. She died November 4, 1996. Memorial service for Randall Lionel Beasley, formerly of the Witt area, will be held Wednesday afternoon in the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon. The family suggests memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon, American Heart Association or the Randall and Virginia Beasley Scholarship Endowment at Lake Land College. Mr. Beasley, of Mattoon, died at 9:47 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 1998, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 73 years old on July 15, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an engineer with Coles Moultrie Electric Cooperative from 1948 until his retirement in 1988. He was a founding manager of the Illinois Farm Electrification Council, member and past president of Illinois Electrical Inspectors, an incorporator of Clear Water Service Corporation, and an Illinois Class A water plant operator. He attended schools in Irving and Witt, graduating from Witt High School, attended Blackburn College and the University of Illinois, graduating from the U. of I. in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural engineering. He also worked for the U. of I. and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to pay his way through school. He was active in many organizations in the Mattoon area, including Masonic Lodge 206 A.F.&A.M., director of the United Way for 15 years, and a former member of the Charleston Mattoon Chamber of Commerce. He was a son of Arthur E. and Mildred Mitchell Beasley. When he was 2 1/2 years old, his mother died and his father, in 1932, married a young widow named Collins. She had four children, each only a few months younger than the Beasley children. Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia G. Rackett, whom he married June 4, 1947, in East Marion, N.Y.; children, Beth Ann Watson of rural Mattoon, Sue Ellyn Meyer of Lerna, Nancy Jeanne Levin of Chesterfield, Mo.; step brothers, Raymond and Arthur Beasley of Owensville, Mo., Ray D. Collins of Edwardsville; sister, Allegretha Harrelson of Bunnlevel, N.C.; four grandchildren, one step grandchild and two great grandchildren.
Beaty, Sr., Donald D.
Donald D. Beaty, Sr., formerly of Morrisonville, died Tuesday, December 14, 1999, in his home in Notus, Idaho. He was 67 years old last December 26. He worked for 39 years for Weber Aircraft Corporation in Los Angeles before retiring to Idaho. He was born in Morrisonville, a son of Paul and Edith Beaty. He married Marilyn MacFarland in 1954 in San Fernando Valley, Calif. She survives. Surviving also are a son, D. Dale Beaty Jr. of Simi Valley, Calif.; daughters, Sheri Mott of Los Angeles, Dena Beaty of Caldwell; mother, Edith Beaty of Morrisonville; brother Jim Beaty of Morrisonville; sisters, Alice German, Delores McKinney, Ruth Beaty, all of Springfield, Carol Lyerla of Morrsionville, Judie Beaty of Taylorville; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild. Services will be held Caldwell, Idaho, where the Flahiff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial service will be held in Morrisonville at a later date.
Beaver, Eugene H.
Eugene H. Beaver, grandfather of Holly Leefers of Litchfield, died Friday, January 22, 1999, in his son's home in South Holland, Ill. He was 92 years old on August 3, and an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Beaver resided in Carlinville. He was a teacher, specializing in vocational education, and rose to become principal of The Chicago Vocational High School before he retired in 1968. He held memberships in many educators' organizations and in the Guy Baird Post 554 of the American Legion in Carlinville. He graduated in 1924 from Danville High School, in 1928 from the University of Illinois and in 1935 with a master's degree also from the University of Illinois. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making clocks and was known by his family as "the fix-it man." He was also an avid gardener. He was born near Danville on the family farm, a son of Henry and Ordilla Ingram Beaver. He married Alice Tilton on January 2, 1925, in Bryan, Ohio. She died April 21, 1993. Surviving are sons, Henry Beaver of Poway, Calif., George Beaver of South Holland; a daughter, Mary Curry and wife Jim of Carlinville; a sister, Beulah Claypool of Brownsboro, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Davis - Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville with burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Beck, David Henry
David Henry Beck, brother of Lynda Ricke of Fillmore, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, in Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia. A resident of Vandalia, he was 44 years old on February 7. He was born in Vandalia, a son of Fleming and Dorothy Boylard Beck and worked as a truck driver for Decatur Paper. Survivors include two other sisters, Carolyn Beck of Shobonier, Patricia Wasser of Salem and brothers, Jim and Danny Beck of Vandalia. His remains were cremated and graveside services are being planned for a later date.

Services for Glen W. Beck, Jr., of Coffeen, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Miller Funeral Home, Fillmore, with the Rev. Randy Sands officiating. The family suggests memorials be driect to St. Louis Childrens Hospital. Mr. Beck died Tuesday, November 30, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 59 years old on March 6. He was a correctional officer at the John A. Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro, member of the officers union and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He was born in Springfield, a son of Glen W. and Dorothy Crosby Beck. He married Wanda Lee Dalby Welge on August 9, 1990 in Hillsboro. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Kelli Loskot and husband Jerry of Irving, Vicki Billington and husband Jeff of Hillsboro; step daughter, Penny Sue Crumby and husband Bruce of Irving; step son, Jerry Lee Welge Jr. and wife June of Germany; mother, Dorothy Beck of Fillmore; sister, Glenda Darst of Fillmore; brothers, Charles Beck of Hillsboro, Bernard Beck of Beebe, Ark.; two grandchildren and six step grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his father, Glen and an infant brother, Jerry Ray Beck.

The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Mr. Becker died at 3:40 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 90 years old on August 10. He retired in 1975 as an employee of the State of Illinois. He was a purchasing clerk with General Services. He was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Before working for the state he worked for a short time as a clerk at Roller Derby. He moved to Litchfield in 1939 to work as a time clerk at the American Radiator plant and continued to work there until it closed. In Staunton, he worked at the Huntman Funeral Home and Furniture Store as a clerk and an apprentice embalmer. He graduated from Staunton High School and was salutatorian of the class of 1928. He was born in Staunton, a son of Frederick and Mathilda Schrieter Becker. He married Mary P. Britton on September 24, 1932. They were married 66 1/2 years. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Warren Becker and wife Sandy of Zachary, La.; daughters, Paula Jo May and husband, Charles of LaVerne, Calif., and Star Jill Becker at home; granddaughters, Cynthia Pearse and husband John of Concord, Calif., Sharon Smith and husband Gregory of Omaha, Neb., and Melissa Baker and husband Kenneth of Concord, Calif.; and four great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were an infant son Larry in 1937 and two sisters, Faith Lich, formerly of Staunton and Gratia Wenkle, formerly of St. Louis. Services for Irwin L. Becker, of Litchfield, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Timothy United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tony Bell officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Staunton. Musical selections were "Ivory Palaces," "Victory in Jesus," "It is Well with My soul" and "The Lord's Prayer." Vicki Watts was the organist. Hal Simpson was the vocalist. Pallbearers were James Leitschuh, Ray Leitschuh, Dick Simberger, Charles May, Richard Smith and John Groves. Mr. Becker, 90, died Sunday, December 20, in St. Francis Hospital.

Services for William L. "Bill" Becker, of Modesto, will be held at noon Friday in Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home, Virden with the Rev. H. Warren Wilkewitz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Modesto. Mr. Becker, 33 on January 20, died Monday, August 16, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, from a gunshot wound stemming from an incident at the Litchfield Super 8 motel Saturday afternoon. He was a heavy equipment operator employed by R&G Excavating of Palmyra for the past 10 years. He was born in White Hall and graduated from Northwestern High School in Palmyra in 1984. Surviving are his parents, Lewis and Laura Mae Wyatt Becker, of Modesto; brother, Ryan Becker of Modesto; sisters, Kim Blisset and husband Dwayne of Chatham, Lisa Dyer and husband Jerry of Rochester; and grandmothers, Cindy Herring of Fidelity and Nellie Bramley of Chesterfield.
Bednar, George A.
Services for George A. Bednar, of Coalton, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sutton Funeral Home, Nokomis. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery. Mr. Bednar died at 3:48 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 1998, in Bear Grove Township. He was 86 years old on May 13. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the National Slovak Society. He was born in Taylor Springs, a son of Michael and Anna Mehochko Bednar. He married Dorothy Jarman in 1962, in Salem. She died October 31, 1997. Also preceding him in death were four sisters and one brother. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Dr. John Edward (Ed) Bednar, son of Rosemary V. Bednar of Nokomis, died Friday, August 14, 1998, in LaGrange Park. He was 47 years old. Dr. Bednar was a graduate of Millikin University and Loyola School of Dentistry. He practiced in Riverside. He was a member of the Nokomis Masonic Lodge. Surviving besides his mother are his wife, Nancy and children, Adam and Sarah, all of LaGrange Park. Services were held Tuesday in LaGrange. Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery at Westchester.

Mrs. Beiermann died at 12:17 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 1999, in her home. She was 67 years old on February 13. She was a member of the Holy Family parish and St. Ann's Society of the church, Women of the Moose Chapter 581 of Litchfield and VFW Post 3912 women's auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and Home Interiors. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Ralph and Lota Lynn Davis. She married James L. Beiermann on November 26, 1949, in the old St. Mary's Catholic Church. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Michael Beiermann and wife Carol of Riverton, Gregory Beiermann and wife Marilyn, James B. Beiermann, Randal Joe Beiermann, all of Litchfield, and Timothy S. Beiermann of Benld; daughters, Jami L. Ryan and husband Sean of Hillsboro; Jeanne M. Voyles and husband Mark of Butler; sister, Sandra Norman of Farmersville; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Ralph Davis Jr., Robert Davis and a sister, Helen Schmidt. Services for Betty J. Beiermann, of Litchfield, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Catholic Church. The Rev. Father David Schmidt officiated. Burial was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Musical selections were "Here I Am Lord," "On Eagles Wings" and "How Great Thou Art." Kathy Skinner was the organist. Polly Wand was the cantor. Pallbearers were Michael Beiermann, Randal Joe Beiermann, Gregory Beiermann, James Beiermann, Ron Hopper and Timothy Beiermann. Mrs. Beiermann, 67, died Saturday, August 7, in her home.

He was a road crew foreman in the maintenance division of the Illinois Department of Transportation. He also worked as an auto body repairman for M.I. Ford and Blatter Motor Sales as well as for himself as owner of Darrell's Body Shop. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lutheran Men's League and Litchfield Sportsman's Club. He was also a Republican precinct committeeman for 16 years. He was born in Patoka, a son of Noah Washington and Laura Mae Dukes Belcher. He married Martha Yunker on January 25, 1941, in Hillsboro; she died February 8, 1992. He then married Letha Bone Stark on July 11, 1992; she survives. Surviving also are sons, Darrell Belcher and wife Annette of Atlanta, Ga., David Belcher and wife Doris of Litchfield; daughter, Marcella Schulte of Odin; sisters, Ruby Watcher and Dorothy Paine of Mulberry Grove; six grandchildren, Dawn, Christopher, Matthew and Michael Belcher, Linda Irwin and David Schulte; four step grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Walter and Herschel Belcher. Services for Darrell Levi Belcher, Sr., of Litchfield, were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Mrs. Bellovich died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 1998, in St. Luke's Hospital West, Chesterfield, Mo. She was 83 years old last January 4. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Louis and Lucia Trettenero Cailotto. She married George Bellovich on February 9, 1937, in Staunton. He died October 17, 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Lucia Bellovich of Webster Groves, Mo.; a sister, Laura Jacobs of Staunton; a brother, Henry L. Cailotto of St. Louis. Preceding her in death were three sisters, Margaret Yarnik, Sally Mueller, Gloria Foskin and a brother, Peter Cailotto.

Mrs. Bellovich died at 10:03 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 1999, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. She was 95 years old on August 21. She was a garment worker at several factories in the area before retiring in 1974. During the war she was a metalic loader at Olin in East Alton. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston, the Altar and Rosary Society of the church, International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Croatian Lodge 46 of Benld, Lodge 96 of the S.N.P.J. and Livingston Senior Citizens. She was born in Carevo Selo Barilovic, Yugoslavia, a daughter of Ivan and Margaret Zar Lipolsky, and came to this country and Livingston in 1913. She married Joe Bellovich on September 21, 1919 in Staunton. He died January 7, 1983. Preceding her in death also were sons, John Edward and Joseph Michael Bellovich; daughters, Betty A. DalPozzo, Mildred Plovich; brothers, John Lipolsky and two in infancy; sisters, Helen Lucas, Pepa Stiscak, Rose Crabtree and Ann Robertson. Surviving are a sister, Barbara Fleming of Staunton; five grandchildren, Mary Margaret Trauch and husband Steve of Scottsdale, Ariz., Vickie Burgnone and husband Dick of Staunton, Cathy Kehnast and husband John of Staunton, Joe DalPozzo and wife Shirley of Livingston, Paula McLean and husband Kevin of West Grove, Pa.; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Others surviving include a son-in-law, Peter Plovich of Scottsdale.

Mr. Beluinas died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Mrch 25, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. He was 94 years old on September 17. He worked in many bowling alleys in the area. He was born in Green ridge, a son of John and Katren Lasdouskis Beluinas. Surviving are a step brother, John Banules of Chicago and several nephews and great nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Edythe Caruso and Tesele Dizonno.

She was reared in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School. She attended Lindenwood University in St. Louis and Northwestern University in Chicago, graduating with a master's degree in Romantic Languages. She taught in many schools and college, including Litchfield High School, Mt. Olive High School, Lincolnwood High School at Raymond, the University of Michigan, Richland Community College, Sacred Heart - Griffin High School in Springfield, as well as in Mexico City. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Litchfield and the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Dr. Ross Williams and Camilla Seymour Griswold. She married Vincente Benitez Soto on April 30, 1956, in Mexico City, Mexico. He died January 9, 1999. Surviving are sons, Dr. John G. Benitez and wife Dr. Linda Allison of Pittsburgh, Pa., Ricardo J. Benitez and wife Amy of Houston, Texas; daughter, Theresa M. Benitez of Mexico City; and one grandchild, Alexander Benitez of Houston. Preceding her in death were brothers, Ross W. Mr. Benitez died at 3:04 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 1999, in Litchfield Health Care Center. He was 94 years old on December 12. A resident of Litchfield for many years, he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Parish, coached soccer for the Litchfield Park District and a volunteer speaker for area high schools on Mexican © American affairs. He was active in the Boys Scouts of America Troop 86. He was also a volunteer for the Community Health Improvement Center in Decatur, and taught Spanish classes at Sacred Heart Griffin High School in Springfield. He was employed as a statistician with the Mexico City Stock Exchange before his retirement. He was born in Tlalnepantla, Mexico, a son of Sotero Benitez. He married Jane Griswold on April 30, 1956, in Mexico City, Mexico. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Dr. Luis D. Benitez and wife Elva Nora of Del Mar, Calif., Dr. John G. Benitez and wife Dr. Linda Allison of Pittsburgh, Pa., Ricardo J. Benitez and wife Amy of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Teresa M. Benitez of Mexico City; and three grandchildren, Dr. Carlos Benitez, Jorge Benitez, both of Del Mar, and Alexander Benitez of Houston. Preceding him in death were three brothers and three sisters. Funeral Mass for Vincente Benitez Soto was said at 10 a.m. this morning in Holy Family Catholic Church. Rev. Father David Schmidt was the officiant. Organist was Kathy Skinner. Services for Mary Jane Benny, of Coffeen, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial will be in Olive Hill Cemetery at Coffeen. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mrs. Benny died this morning, Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in St. John's North, Springfield. She would have been 69 years old on May 16. She had worked as a lab assistant at Hillsboro Hospital before retiring and enjoyed working with flowers in her yard. She was a daughter of Samuel Wayne Moore and Noia Flo Moreland Moore Finley. Her marriage to Clifford L. "Bill" Benny on November 6, 1947, later ended in divorce. He died in 1993. Surviving are a son, Dennis Benny and wife Karen of Coffeen; daughter, Sandra Kay Colett and husband Steve of Decatur; brothers, Samuel Moore and wife Nellie, Wendell Moore and wife Betty of Hillsboro; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a sister, Dorothy Moore and brothers, one in infancy and Lloyd W. Moore in 1989.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Mr. Benny died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 84 years old on May 10, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a chemist with American Zinc and ASARCO for 30 years before he retired in 1976. During World War II, he served in the Pacific campaign. He resided in the Coffeen and Hillsboro area for most of his life time and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Musicians Union, specializing in string instruments including the violin, guitar and banjo. He was born in Hillsboro a son of Edward and Mary Warren Benny, and graduated as valedictorian of the Coffeen High School class of 1932. He and his wife, the former Colleen Davis, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995, having been married in Coffeen on November 24, 1945. Surviving are his wife, Colleen; a son, Harold Benny of Hillsboro; daughter, Pat Boehler and husband Charles of Tamaroa; brother, Earl Benny and wife Ruth of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Jill Benny of Bloomington, Joshua Benny of Las Vegas, Nev., Brent and Andrew Boehler of Tamaroa.

He worked in construction and in factories before retiring, and had resided in Hillsboro for the past 18 years. He was a member of Hillsboro Moose Lodge 1377, Grace Lutheran Church and Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge AF&AM 51 of Hillsboro. He enjoyed bingo and collecting. He was born in Lisbon, Ill., a son of Gunval and Jurene Benson. His marriage to the former Burdell Anderson in 1948, ended in divorce. He born on December 26, 1990, in Litchfield, a son of Jeffrey Eugene and Lory Ann Crabtree Benton, and was christened in St. Timothy United Methodist Church. His parents later divorced. He resided with his father in Hillsboro this past year and had recently completed first grade at Beckemeyer School. He was a member of the Hillsboro Sports Association Pinto League on the White Sox baseball team. He attended the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro. Surviving are his father, Jeffrey Benton of Hillsboro; mother, Lory Crabtree of Petersburg; paternal grandmother, Dessie Benton of Litchfield; maternal grandparents, Billy E. and Christine Crabtree of Litchfield, Jean Howard of Athens; paternal great grandmother, Dessie Knapp of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; maternal great grandparents, Forrest and Mary Crabtree of Litchfield; half brother, Travis DeWayne Frayer of Petersburg; half sister, Stormie Marie Snider of Petersburg. Tyler Benton, 7, was pronounced dead on Tuesday, June 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Petersburg as the result of a drowning accident.
