Mr. Russell Birch Sr.
Russell Birch, Sr., 88, of Jacksonville died Friday afternoon, August 10, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on January 16, 1913 in Falls of Rough, Kentucky the son of Mr.and Mrs. James Birch. He married Agnes Ray Kiper on July 8, 1930 in Grayson County, Kentucky and later married Evelyn Jordan on December 24, 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada and she preceded him in death on February 5, 1995.
Mr. Birch is survived by three sons, Russell (wife, Hazel) Birch, Jr. of Mason City, Edgar (wife, Sandra) Birch of Ashland and Tom, (wife, Eleanor) of Mason City and three daughters, Evelyn (husband, Lonnie) Swift of Caneyville, Kentucky, Betty (husband, Wayne) Harvey and Diane (husband, Danny) Geary both of Leitchfield, Kentucky, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and two sisters, Ruthie Mercer of Louisville, Kentucky and Pauline Schartzer of New Albany, Indiana. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 5 sisters.
Mr. Birch had farmed and earned his plumber’s license in Kentucky before moving to Ashland in 1955. He worked for Stribling Farms in Ashland before moving to Jacksonville in 1962 and opening Birch Plumbing and Heating, a business he ran for 39 years. Mr. Birch was the oldest active licensed plumber in the State of Illinois and was proud of and well known for his hard work ethic, working 7 days a week for many years and continuing to work full time until his death. Mr. Birch died doing what he loved most.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Sunday with the family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Ralph W. Birch
Ralph W. Birch, age 79, of Griggsville, Ill. died Tuesday afternoon (February 20, 2001) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill..
He was born September 9, 1921 in Pike County, Ill. son of the late Frank and Ruth Daniels Birch.
He married Doris Cory on March 21, 1943 in Mexico, Mo. and
she preceded him in death on October 12, 1996.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Nancy) Bennett of Chillicothe, Ill. and Mrs. Ron (Joyce) Luster of Bellevue, Nebraska; one son, R.C. Birch and wife Becky of Griggsville, Ill.; five grandchildren, Andrea Bennett of Chillicothe, Ill., Troy Luster and wife Valerie and Matthew Luster all of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Cory and Ryan Birch both of Griggsville, Ill.; two sisters, Norma Jean Connour of Griggsville, Ill. and Joanne Evans of Sherman, Ill.; a special companion, Mary June Rohrbaugh of Perry, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Mr. Birch was a graduate of Griggsville High School in Griggsville, Ill. and was a life long grain and livestock farmer. He was a member of the Griggsville United Methodist Church where he was a past church board member. He was a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau, a past member of the Pike County Pork Producers, past president of the Griggsville Sportsman’s Club, and a member of the Chambersburg Christian Church Senior Saints group. He served as a past delegate to the Illinois Wildlife Federation and was a charter member of the Valley Boat Club located in Valley City, Ill.. In early years he was very involved with Scouting in Pike County, Ill., where he was a troop leader and a commissioner for the Saukee Area Council. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish and in early years loved to fly as a private pilot.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday (February 23, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggville, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the Griggsville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Gordon C. Blackburn
Gordon C. Blackburn, age 62, of White Hall, died Thursday morning,
June 7, 2001 at his residence.
He was born March 18, 1939 in White Hall, the son of Wayne Eugene
and Sarah Mardell Hicks Blackburn.
He is survived by one sister, Toni Jones of McMinville, Tennessee;
one brother, Frank Crawford of Decatur; several nieces and nephews; and
special friends, Bill and Donna Combs of White Hall. He was preceded in
death by his parents, his grandparents, Frank and Nina Hicks and his
stepfather, Byron H. Crawford.
Mr. Blackburn was a lifetime member of the Roodhouse Assembly of
God Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1961, where he
served at Yokota Air Force Base in Japan. He attended Roodhouse schools
and Lewis and Clark Community College receiving a degree in radio
broadcasting. He worked for a number of years as a clerk at the Dunlap
Motor Inn.
He was a newspaper reporter and photographer for the Green e Prairie
Press from 1970 to 2000, where he enjoyed covering the high school
sporting activities around the area. Some of the articles that Gordon wrote
that he was most proud of were the Spanish-American War veteran, Pete
Lucas story; the 50th anniversary of the 1927 heroics of Centerville school
teacher, Annie Keller in April, 1977; an interview with Rudolph the
Red-Nosed Reindeer creator, Robert L. May; an interview with Tex Beneke
and Paula Kelly in the early 1970’s about Glenn Miller; and the column on
the passing of widely-known North Green e teacher and coach, Billy D.
“Diz” McCarthy. He was also involved in the celebration at Roodhouse of
Roodhouse teacher and coach, Mason “Humpy” Campbell’s election to the
Illinois Football Coaches Hall of Fame in Champaign, which included a
reunion of teachers, players, assistants and former opposing coaches.
He had been a field agent for the Green e County Supervisor of
Assessments for several years. As a young man, he enjoyed scouting and
was a member of the Railway Clerks Union.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2001
at the Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Mr. Evan Blaeuer
Evan Blaeuer, 84, of Modesto, died Friday, August 31, 2001 in Carlinville Area Hospital, Carlinville, Illinois. He was born June 24, 1917 in Carlinville, Illinois, a son of Andrew Fredrick William and Lucy Wells Simmons Blaeuer. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Chance Blaeuer, Plenty C. Blaeuer, and Best Blaeuer; and two sisters: Hylois Blaeuer and Lura Swanson. Surviving are nieces and nephews and one sister in law Hazel Blaeuer of Waverly.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 2, 2001 in Blue Grass Cemetery, east of Modesto on Nine Mile Lane. Mrs. Margaret A. Blakeman (Rimbey)
Margaret A. Blakeman, 86, of Jacksonville died Friday evening, March 9, 2001 at Jacksonville Convalescent Center. She was born on December 14, 1914 near Manchester the daughter of Walter and Bertha Chapman Rimbey. She married Clyde Blakeman and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1961.
She is survived by one son, Paul (wife, Ellen) Simmons of Jacksonville; one grandson,John Simmons (wife, Patricia) of Meredosia; and one niece, Janet McEvers (husband, Edward) of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by one sister, Opal Hurrelbrink.
Mrs. Blakeman owned and operated grocery stores in New Berlin and Jacksonville. She later owned and operated the Dream Queen on Walnut. Before retirement, she was a switchboard operator at Holy Cross Hospital for 17 years. Mrs. Blakeman enjoyed quilting.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Ruth A. Boehs (Oleson)
Ruth Almyra Boehs, 83, of rural Chapin died Tuesday morning, November 6, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born May 28, 1918 in Cass County the daughter of John Edward and Louie Crowell Oleson. She married Gerhardt J. “Gary” Boehs on April 24, 1949 in Beardstown and he survives.
Mrs. Boehs is also survived by one son, Dennis (wife, Linda) Boehs of Chapin; one daughter, Sandy (husband, John) Flynn of Peoria; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Oleson, Thomas Oleson, and Russell Oleson; and two sisters, Grace Oleson and Margaret Matthews.
Mrs. Boehs was a homemaker and an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Chapin, and the Mary Martha Circle.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with burial at Grace Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Katherine D. Bouhan (Clancy)
Katherine D. Bouhan, 91, of Mount Prospect, died Saturday morning, March 17, 2001 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. She was born on April 2, 1909 in Jacksonville the daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann O’Brien Clancy. She married John Bouhan in April of 1935 and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1972.
Mrs. Bouhan is survived by two daughters, Patricia Grant of Lakemoor and Mary Jean (husband, Don) Grant of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; one son, John Bouhan of Atlanta, Georgia; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis (wife, Leona) Clancy of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Clancy, Lillian Rose Todd, Mary Doyle, and Mary Louise Clancy; and four brothers, Donald Clancy, Edward Clancy, William Clancy, and Joseph Clancy.
Mrs. Bouhan had been employed at South Shore Bank in Chicago. She was a graduate of Routt High School and had been a member of the Church of Our Saviour. She attended St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Mount Prospect and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed golfing.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2001 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the Church of Our Saviour. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Routt Scholarship Fund or Rainbow Hospice, 444 N. Mr. Ray Bowman
Ray Bowman, age 88, of Fishhook, Ill. died Wednesday (September 12, 2001) at St. Vincent’s Home in Quincy, Ill..
He was born December 28, 1912 Fishhook, Ill. son of the late Charles and Nellie Bowen Bowman.
He married Mary Shinnebarger Dougherty on November 29, 1947 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Rhonda Liehr and husband Greg of Mt. Sterling, Ill.; one step-son, Don Dougherty and wife Roberta of Perry, Ill.; five grandchildren, Tracy Templeton and husband Ross of Arlington Heights, Ill., Cindy Moore and husband Doug of Jacksonville, Ill., Krista Savage and husband Doug, Britnee Liehr and fiancé Tim Phillips, and Craig Orr all of Quincy, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Cooper and Grayson Moore of Jacksonville, Ill., and Caleigh Phillips of Quincy, Ill.; a twin brother, Glen Bowman of Quincy, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-daughter, Shirley Dougherty Orr; and two grandchildren, Ricky and Vicki Blanchett.
Mr. Bowman retired in 1994 after serving as a rural letter carrier in the Baylis-Fishhook area after 32 years of service, missing only one day of work in that time. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Fishhook Methodist Church, the Perry American Legion Post #1040, and served as President of the Pike County Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday (September 15, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dorothy Fellhauer and Rev. Robert Schoolcraft officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Fishhook, Ill. with graveside military rites conducted by Perry American Legion Post #1040 and Scott Air Force Burial Detail. Mrs. Sylvia Genita Bradbury (Bauch)
Sylvia Genita Bradbury, age 97, of the Pittsfield Manor Nursing Home in Pittsfield, Ill. and formerly of Perry, Ill. died Friday evening (August 17, 2001) at the nursing home.
She was born April 9, 1904 in Brown County, Ill. daughter of the late Fred and Matilda Griewe Bauch.
She married Leo Bradbury on April 29, 1931 and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1992.
Surviving are three daughters, Genita Reese of Perry, Illinois, Carolyn Hesketh of Cave Junction, Colorado, and Mary Ann Fonetta of Oceanside, California; seven grandchildren, Jackie Richmond of Table Grove, Ill., Audrey Martin of Fishhook, Ill., Debbie Reese of Griggsville, Ill., Shelia Magee of North Carolina, Rose Bachman of Vancouver, Wash., and Bobbie Jo Romero and Jeanne Puls both of LaGrange, Mo.; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles Fredrick Bradbury who died at seven months; three sisters, Dora Smith, Alice Kindhart, and Zelma Kennedy; and two brothers, Dennis Bauch and Ivan Bauch.
Mrs. Bradbury farmed along side her husband for many years north of Perry, Ill.. She attended the Perry Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and canning vegetables.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dorothy Fellhauer and Rev. Jerry Kennedy officiating. Mr. Clyde C. Bradshaw
Clyde C. Bradshaw, age 93, of Griggsville, Ill. died Monday morning (January 8, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, Ill..
He was born June 5, 1907 in Pike County, Ill. son of the late Samuel S. and Lorena Manton Bradshaw.
He married Dorothy Cory on March 9, 1935 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. David (Betty) Wade of Plano, Ill. and Mrs. Gordon (Kay) Rednour of Pinehurst, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Tamara Wade Melter of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Steven Wade of Bartlett, Ill., Lisa Wade Harris Hampshire, Ill., Christopher Rednour of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Geoffrey Rednour of Garden City, Michigan; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Bessie Bradbury of Perry, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Mary Friday, Ethel Raper, Alice Moore, Rachel Musgrave, and Loretta Buchanan; and five brothers, Roscoe, George, Arthur, Tom, and Walter Bradshaw.
Mr. Bradshaw graduated from Griggsville High School in 1928 and farmed in the Griggsville area until ill health forced early retirement in 1965. He attended the Griggsville United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Griggsville International Order of Oddfellows and Griggsville School Board.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (January 11, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel located at Rt. 107 in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Joan E. Bradshaw (Pate)
Joan E. Bradshaw, age 83, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died 8:25 a.m. Monday (November 5, 2001) at her residence in Tenn.
She was born January 1, 1918 in Meredosia, Ill. daughter of the late Charles and Alta Mae Leslie Pate.
She married James Arthur Bradshaw on June 28, 1939 in Louisiana, Mo. and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robb (Pam) Stringfield of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one grandson, Bryan Stringfield of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a niece, Joni Wase of Jacksonville, Florida; and a nephew, Patrick Thomas of Denver, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Dewey and Eugene Paytt; and two sisters, Irene Pate and Nadine Thomas.
Mrs. Bradshaw was a homemaker, and in the early years, was a nurse’s aide and later a licensed beautician. She was a fifty-year member and past Worthy Matron of the Pittsfield Order of the Eastern Star and was also a member of the White Shrine and a past president of the Griggsville American Legion Auxiliary.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00a.m. Saturday November 10th, at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Griggsville by the Rev. Dorothy Fellhauer officiating. Interment will follow in Griggsville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9a.m. Saturday until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to the Perry United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Anna Mae Bradshaw (Fielder)
Anna Mae Bradshaw, age 67, of the Pittsfield Health Care Center in Pittsfield, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died 3:19 p.m. Saturday (December 1, 2001) at the Health Care Center.
She was born May 31, 1934 in Bedford, Ill. daughter of the late Julius and Ruth Virginia Lacy Fielder.
She married John E. McKinney on June 3, 1956 in Perry, Ill. and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1977.
She later married Warren Bradshaw on January 18, 1983 in Jacksonville, Ill. and he preceded her in death on February 3, 1988.
Surviving is one son, Rodney McKinney of White Hall, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert (Connie) Rafferty of Griggsville, Ill.; one sister, Eva Martin of Pittsfield, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Pat McKinney of Coalgate, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands.
Mrs. Bradshaw was 1954 graduate of Milton High School in Milton, Ill.. She was a past employee of Trio Manufacturing in Griggsville, Ill., a custodian at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill., and cleaned houses in Griggsville, Ill. for many years.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday (December 6, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Pike County, Heart Association, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Carole Marks Bradshaw (Payne)
Carole Marks (Payne) Bradshaw, age 65, of the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died early Saturday morning (March 10, 2001) at the Care Center.
She was born October 2, 1935 in Summer Hill, Illinois daughter of the late Merle Wallace and H. Rosalie Ralph Payne.
She married Ernest W. Marks in July of 1953 and later married Keith Bradshaw in 1980 and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Martin E. Marks and wife Marguerite of Chicago, Ill., Michael E. Marks and wife Laura of Jacksonville, Ill., and Jeffrey N. Marks of Quincy, Ill.; five step-daughters, Mrs. Bill (Tere) Boes, Mrs. Greg (Laura) Wainman, Rhonda Crawford, and Mrs. Troy (Bunny) Kennedy all of Griggsville, Ill., Cathy Bradshaw of Jacksonville, Ill.; one step-son, Larry Bradshaw and wife Carrie of Griggsville, Ill.; sixteen grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Constable of Hannibal, Mo. and Sandra Lehenbauer of Warrenton, Mo.; three nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harold Ralph Payne.
Mrs. Bradshaw graduated in 1953 from Hannibal High School in Hannibal, Mo.. She was city clerk for the city of Griggsville, Ill. from 1968 to 1995. She was a member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge, Griggsville American Legion Auxiliary, was very active in Griggsville Youth Baseball League, and attended the Griggsville United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader who enjoyed her grandchildren and traveling.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dennis Will officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery in Griggsville, Ill..
