Mrs. Ada Cadwell (Phillips)
Ada Cadwell, age 76, of Griggsville, Ill. died early Thursday morning (December 6, 2001) at her residence.
She was born April 19, 1925 in Detroit, Ill. daughter of the late Loren E. and Sarah Murphy Phillips.
She married Paul V. Cadwell on Feburary 17, 1946 in Detroit, Ill. and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1997.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. John (Sandy) Puyear of Pierron, Ill.; one grandson, Vincent Harris and wife Mindy of Kincaid, Ill.; three great-grandsons, Michael, Vinnie, and James Harris all of Kincaid, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Bradshaw and Betty Bradshaw both of Griggsville Ill., and Hazel Seeds of Wonder Lake, Ill.; one brother, John Phillips of Detroit, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Helen Stephenson, Vivian Hastings, Eva Willard; three brothers, Floyd Phillips, Fred Phillips, and Joe Phillips.
Mrs. Cadwell was graduate of Griggsville High School in Griggsville, Ill. and attended Browns Business in Jacksonville, Ill.. She was employed by the City of Griggsville for 20 years retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Pike County Home Extension, WCTU, and the Griggsville Chruch of Christ where she was very active, teaching Sunday school, and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed sewing and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Griggsville Church of Christ in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Vaughn Bemman officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Griggsville Chruch of Christ.

Mrs. Sarahleen Lyons Campbell
Sarahleen Lyons Campbell, 82, of Waverly, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born on November 2, 1918 in Waverly, the daughter of Robert and Theresa Crawford Lyons. She married Merle Hugh Campbell on May 23, 1941 and he preceded her in death on October 21, 1986.
She is survived by two sons: Terry and Jonathon “Butch” Campbell, both of Waverly; three daughters: Joan Richardson of Panorama City, California; Donna Martin of Corsicana Texas and Teresa Campbell of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard “Dick” Campbell, three brothers: Merle, Joy and Robert Lyons and two sisters: Eula Clements and Mildred Wilhelm.
Mrs. Campbell was a seamstress for Hertzberg Book Bindery in Jacksonville for several years. She was a member of Modesto Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad.

William H. Campbell
William H. “Bill” Campbell, 80, of Winchester passed away early Saturday afternoon (October 27, 2001) at the White Hall MultiCare Center.
He was born February 26, 1921 in Winchester the son of the late William A. and Rennah Peak Campbell.
He married Lecie M. Stice August 14, 1941 in St. Charles, Missouri. She survives at home. Also surviving are 2 daughters Linda Kieff of Harker Heights, Texas and Christine Renner of Winchester, and a son Stephen Campbell of Bremerton, Washington, 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and also
a brother James H. Campbell of rural Winchester.
He was preceded in death by a brother Richard Campbell and 4 sisters Mary Weder, Louise Nycum, Clara Belle Campbell and Margaret McPherson.
Mr. Campbell was a 1938 graduate of Winchester High School. He was the Manager of the ASCS office in Pike and Scott Counties for 23 years retiring in 1990. He had been a member of the Pittsfield Rotary Club and the Winchester Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Winchester where he had served for many years as a Sunday school Teacher.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday (October 30, 2001) at 1st Baptist Church in Winchester. Burial will be in Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Monday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Mr. Stanley M. Canatsey
Stanley M. Canatsey, 85, of South Jacksonville died Tuesday evening, December 4, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on October 24, 1916 in Athensville Township the son of Martin and Bertha Beatrice Rimbey Canatsey. He married Grace I. McFarland on November 1, 1958 at Central Christian Church in Jacksonville and she survives.
Mr. Canatsey is also survived by several nieces and nephews in the Jacksonville area. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean Canatsey and Loyd Canatsey.
Mr. Canatsey had worked as a mechanic at several local garages, retiring from Petefish Chevrolet in Waverly. He served as a staff sargeant in the United States Army during World War II, first at Panama and later in France and Germany. He received two Bronze Stars for his efforts. Mr. Canatsey enjoyed restoring automobiles and joining his friends for coffee. He and his wife had traveled extensively, spending winters in Texas, Florida, and Arizona.
Private graveside services and military honors will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2001 at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Prairieland Liberty Church or the donor’s choice. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Oma Brewer Capocasa
Oma Brewer Capocasa, 89, of Batavia died Tuesday afternoon, May 15, 2001 at Skyview Terrace, Ltd. in Jacksonville. She was born on August 21, 1911 in Chapin the daughter of Offer and Maude Brewer. She married Mario Capocasa in 1945 and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, James D. Bonds of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonita Muttman and Betty Brewer; and one brother, Deneen Brewer, (surviving wife Ruth Brewer of Chapin.)
Mrs. Capocasa owned and operated the Maroma Restaurant in Batavia for 25 years. She then worked at Lou’s Drive-In in Batavia for 17 years.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Batavia. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Frank Carlson, Jr.
John Frank Carlson, Jr., age 53, of Roodhouse, died Saturday
evening, March 24, 2001 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 3, 1947 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, the son of John
F. and Anna Jane Sproat Carlson.
He married Cindy Rappe on June 18, 1982 in Hillsboro and she
survives.
He is also survived by one son, Ryan Irwin Carlson at home; two
daughters, Johanna Jane and Victoria Lynn Carlson, both at home; one
brother, Harold Carl Carlson of Texas and his father-in-law, Bernard Rappe
of Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gayle Holmes.
Mr. Carlson was an award winning journalism teacher for many years
in Texas. He was an advisor for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association
at Columbia University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War
and was a member of the VFW in New Caney, Texas. He was a member of
the All Saints Catholic Church in White Hall. He enjoyed teaching and
children.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at the
All Saints Catholic Church in White Hall. The family will meet friends
from 5:00 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials
are suggested to the Sherwood Eddy YMCA in Roodhouse or the North
Green e Junior High Journalism Program. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home
in Roodhouse is in charge of arrangements.

William E. "Bill" Carmean
William E. “Bill” Carmean, age 69, of rural Arenzville, Ill. died Thursday evening (August 30, 2001) at his residence.
He was born May 28, 1932 in Green e County, Ill. son of the late Franklin Glen and Nora Madeline McEvers Carmean.
He married Ruth Jean Hutchings on October 11, 1952 in Manchester, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Donna Davis and husband Denny of Bloomington, Ill.; two sons, Rodger Carmean and wife Ronda of Arenzville, Ill. and Kenneth Carmean of Meredosia, Ill.; four grandchildren, Cathy Ventimiglia of Normal, Ill., Bill Ventimiglia of Bloomington, Ill. and Douglas and Lucas Carmean both of Arenzville, Ill.; four brothers, Franklin J. Carmean and wife Norma of Jacksonville, Ill., George A. Carmean and wife Mary Ann of Astoria, Ill., Robert Carmean and his fiancé Sally Evans of Bluffs, Ill., and James O. Carmean and wife Janet of Meredosia, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Rosetta Carmean Koon (husband Ed) of San Angelo, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Donald Carmean.
William was of the Baptist faith having been a member of Meredosia 1st Baptist Church nearly 40 years. For the last 5 years he attended the Beardstown 1st Southern Baptist Church.
William was a devoted father and husband. He attended Green e, Scott, and Pike County schools. He worked as a farm hand in his early life, and served 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to military duty, he worked for Chapin Machine and Welding. After returning home from military duty in Japan, he worked for Allis-Chalmers and the then Peabody Coal Company retiring in 1973. After retiring, he became a full time hog farmer until retiring from that in 1996. He took great pride in his welding. His children and grandchildren were also a source of great pride. He enjoyed collecting and listening to Country and Western music. He also enjoyed fishing if the fish did not bother him to much.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday (September 3, 2001)at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery where military rites will be conducted.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.
Memorials may be made to the Cass/Schuyler Hospice or to the Meredosia Rescue Squad both care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Erma Fay Carney (Anderson)
Erma Fay Carney, 72, of Longmont, Colorado and formerly of Waverly, died Friday morning, August 31, 2001 at Northern Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, Colorado. She was born on February 16, 1929 in Modesto the daughter of William and Melvina Emmons Anderson. She married Ronald “Ron” Carney on February 27, 1949 in Modesto and he survives.
She is also survived by three daughters, Brenda (husband, Dick) Winter of Broomfield, Colorado, Sandy (husband, Charlie) Huffman of Mt.Auburn, and Pam (husband, Gary) Martin of Alexander; five grandchildren, Abby Huffman, Lincoln Huffman, Kirby Huffman, Chanel Winter, and Breanne Winter; a nephew she and her husband raised, Bill (wife, Nina) Hays of Modesto; one sister, Rita Hampton of Hettick, and two brothers, Dale Anderson and Dean Anderson, both of Kissimmee, Florida. She was preceded in death by one sister, Myrl Keenan, and one brother, Coy Anderson.
Mrs. Carney had been a lab technician with the United States Department of Agriculture. She had also been employed with Search Company International, Horace Mann Insurance, and Bunn Capitol. She was a member of the Modesto Christian Church, Sangamon County Home Extention, and Order of Eastern Star, where she had ascended to the level of Worthy Matron. Mrs. Carney had been a 4-H Leader in the Waverly area, was a frequent contributor of recipes to local newspapers, and loved to cook and sew.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at the Neece Funeral Home at Waverly with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Eastern Star services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Eva Mae Carriger (Kirkpatrick)
Eva Mae Carriger, 97, of Alsey passed away Sunday morning (April 29, 2001) at the Scott County Nursing Center.
She was born November 6, 1903 in Winchester the daughter of Laren and Mary Campbell Kirkpatrick. She married Leon Keith Carriger August 27, 1944 in Winchester. He preceded her in death January 21, 1964. Also preceding her were 4 sisters, 6 brothers and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Carriger was a graduate of Winchester High School. She worked as a Nurse Aid at Our Savior and Passavant Hospital from 1952 until 1968. She served as a Dem Mother for the Cub Scout group in Alsey. She was a member of the Alsey Baptist Church where she had been very active in the Vacation Bible School program and the Missions group. She enjoyed playing bunco, especially when it was her turn to host.
Surviving are 3 stepsons Lawrence R. (wife Olga) Carriger of O’Fallon, IL, Earl K. Carriger of Rantoul, and Muriel N. (wife Wanda) Carriger of Alton, MO. 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in Bowers Cemetery east of Alsey. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until 1:45 PM at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alsey Baptist Church or to the Winchester EMS.

Mr. William P. Carson
William P. Carson, 91, of Springfield, formerly Waverly, died Monday, March 19, 2001 in St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born November 17, 1909 in Maxwell Twp, Sangamon County, Illinois, near Waverly, the son of Lee and Elizabeth Maginn Carson. He married Lela Mae Fairweather in Springfield, on December 21, 1944, and she survives.
Also surviving are one sister: Edna Carson of Loami, and several nieces and nephews.
He was a retired farmer and served as county and state Chairman of ASCS, retiring from that in 1972.
He was a 50 year member of Linton Lodge #401 Knights of Pythias, Waverly Masonic Lodge #118, Wilbur Chapter #358 Order of the Eastern Star, Valley of Springfield, Scottish Rite, and Ansar Shrine.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001 in Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. Visitation will be from noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m.. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to donors choice.

Ruby L. Carter (Driver)
Ruby L. Carter, 84, of Carrollton died at 9:19 A.M. on Thursday March
29, 2001 at the Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Bluffdale Twp. on June 16, 1916 she was the daughter of the
late Charles E. and Frances E. Goans Driver.
She married Arthur Carter on Feb. 1, 1935 and he preceded her in death
in 1985. Surviving are:
A daughter and son-in-law: Doris and Dean Dyess of Buffalo, Texas
and a son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Connie Carter of Carrollton, 5
grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Kathy Hodgerson, a
sister Mina Moore and a brother Lester Driver.
Ruby was a nursing assistant for Boyd Hospital for 14 years and later
the Green e Co. Health Dept. for 17 years. She was a member of the
Carrollton United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Circle of the church.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. on Sunday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Monday at 10
A.M. with burial to follow in the Borlin Cemetery southwest of Carrollton.
Memorials may be made to the Carrollton United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Betty Jean Casey (Zieche)
Betty Jean Zieche Casey, 71, of South Jacksonville died Friday afternoon, August 10, 2001 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on June 22, 1930 in Aurora the daughter of Otto R. and Pearl C. Metcalf Zieche, Sr. She married William Joseph “Joe” Casey on September 15, 1951 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and he survives.
Mrs. Casey is also survived by one daughter, Kathy Jean (husband, Dudley) Evans of Springfield and two sisters, Mrs. William Gaines of Murrayville and June (husband, Gene) Bateman of Virginia. She was preceded in death by one sister, Verna Kindelberger and one brother, Otto R. “Bob” Zieche, Jr.
Mrs. Casey had worked as a secretary for many years, first with Langdon Insurance Agency and later with Rammelkamp Law Offices, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and Woodson American Legion Auxiliary #249.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2001 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after noon on Sunday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. and a Rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Gracie F. Castleberry (Campbell)
Gracie Frances Castleberry, 81, of Waverly, died Friday, May 25, 2001 in Jacksonville Convalescent Center, Jacksonville, Illinois. She was born on June 13, 1919 in Baxter Springs, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Helen Mae Lewis Campbell. She married Troy Castleberry in Miami, Oklahoma in 1961 and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Surviving Mrs. Castleberry are one son, Ray William (wife, Bonnie) Hunter of Franklin, Illinois, one granddaughter, Shelley (husband, Chris) Spencer of Franklin; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Austin Spencer.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Waverly.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2001 at Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly. The family will receive friends at the graveside service on Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the Family. Neece Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of the arrangements.
