Lowell "Phiz" Cox
Lowell “Phiz” Cox, 62, of Carrollton died at 7:00 A.M. on Thursday April 5,
2001 at his daughter’s residence following a lengthy illness.
Born on Jan. 27, 1939 near Carrollton he was the son of the late William
and Maude White Cox.
He married the former Jane Wooster in Jerseyville on June 18, 1960 and
she survives. Also surviving are: 3 daughters: Mrs. Ron “Teresa” Bettis of
Roodhouse, Mrs. Jeff “Bernadette” Faul of Carrollton and Mrs. Mark
“Sherry” Sharrow of White Hall, 6 sons: Donnie (wife-Rhonda) Cox of
McLeansboro, Ronnie (wife Vicki) Cox of Carrollton, Bill Cox of
Jerseyville, Sam (wife-Janice) Cox of Carrollton, Jim (wife-Michelle) Cox of
Kane and Clifton (wife-Melissa) Cox of Carrollton. There are 12 grand and
7 great grandchildren surviving. 4 sisters: Wanda Ruyle of Carrollton,
Clover Miller of Jerseyville, Frances Akers of Kane and Linda Schaake of
Jerseyville. 4 brothers: Herschel Cox of Jerseyville, William Cox of
Kentucky, Gordon Dean Cox of Shipman and Pete Cox of Murrayville.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Ashley Sharrow, a
grandson: Brandon Shanks, a son: Chuck Cox, a daughter Roberta Cox, a
brother Courtland Cox and 2 sisters: Audrey Platto and Eula McKinnon.
He was a farmhand for many years and was a member of the New Life
Tabernacle in Delhi.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Saturday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Sunday at 2 P.M.
with burial to follow in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the
Blessing Hospice of Green e Co., the American Diabetes Assn., the Kidney
Foundation or the Green e Co. Health Dept.

Mrs. Anna Mae Cox (Duffner)
Anna Mae Cox, 88, of South Jacksonville died early Friday morning, March 9, 2001 at her residence. She was born June 17, 1912 in Jacksonville the daughter of Thomas and Mae Mahoney Duffner. She married Albert W. Cox on June 28, 1937 in Jacksonville; he preceded her in death in 1975.
She is survived by one daughter, Sr. Margaret Ann Cox, O.P. of Springfield; one sister, Helen Jackson of Riverside, California; and two brothers, John “Bud” (wife, Margaret) Duffner of Marco Island, Florida and Fr. Paul Duffner, O.P. of Portland, Oregon.
Mrs. Cox assisted her husband on the family farm operation south of Orleans. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and Catholic Daughters of America, Pisgah Potluck and Orleans Women’s Country Club. She enjoyed needlepoint, dogs, crossword puzzles, and reading.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. A prayer service including the recitation of the rosary will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Griffin High School or Brother Jerry Galloway, CICM, Missionary in Zaire (Africa).

Mr. William Earl Cox
William Earl Cox, 76, of White Hall, died Friday morning, November 23, 2001 at his residence. He was born April 1, 1925 in Patterson the son of Fred Earl and Ada May Hinds Cox. He married Betty Jean Cox on December 1, 1945 in Hillview and she preceded him in death on March 3, 1991.
He is survived by one daughter, Brenda (husband, Ronald) Riley of White Hall; three grandchildren, Donald E. (wife, Stephanie) Cox of White Hall, Lisa (fiancé, Mike Dixon) Weber of White Hall and April Riley of White Hall; one great-granddaughter, Maddison Weber; one brother, James Cox of White Hall; one sister, Ruby Young of White Hall, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Cox.
Mr. Cox served in the United States Army during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a former member and past commander of the VFW Post in Detroit, Michigan and was a former member of the White Hall VFW Post 7684 and past member of the Bryant-Thomas American Legion Post 1210 in Hillview. He worked at Chrysler Automobile Manufacturing in Detroit, Michigan for 25 years, retiring back to Hillview in 1977.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2001 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jessie Pauline Crow (Dodge)
Jessie Pauline Crow, 82, of Jacksonville and formerly of Franklin died Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Modern Care Convalescent Center in Jacksonville. She was born December 22, 1918 at Maxwell Township the daughter of William Edward and Hessie Dennis Dodge. She married Charles K. Crow in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1970.
She is survived by five children, Dennis (wife, Kay) Crow of Oakwood, Danny (wife, Judy) Crow and Keith (wife, Patty) Crow, both of Franklin; two daughters, Sherry Crow of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Kay (husband, Frank) Foster of Alexander; ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, three brothers, and one sister.
Mrs. Crow grew up and attended school in the Waverly community. She was a member of Durbin United Methodist Church of Franklin.
Private family services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home at Waverly. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to the Durbin United Methodist Church of Franklin.

Mrs. Ruby E. Crum (Hull)
Ruby E. Crum, age 87, of the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died Friday morning (February 23, 2001) at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born April 3, 1913 in Shobonier, Ill. daughter of the late John and Ida Richards Hull.
She married Charles E. Rumple August of 1936 in Griggsville, Ill. and he preceded her in death in 1953. She later married Wilia Crum in 1953 in Bowling Green , Mo. and he preceded him in death in 1973.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Russell (Ladema) Sappington of Griggsville, Ill..; one step-daughter, Thelma Davis of Alton, Ill.; two grandchildren, Steve Sappington and wife Deanna and Scott Sappington all of Griggsville, Ill.; two step-grandchildren, Sandra Beatty and Cathy Doyle both of Alton, Ill.; six great-grandchildren; one step-great grandson; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sisters, Jean Mudd and Hazel Smith; five brothers, Lloyd “Bud” Hull, Pearl Hull, Sr., Raymond Hull, Jess Hull, and Donald Hull.
Mrs. Crum was a member of the Griggsville Church of Christ and enjoyed traveling with the Pike County Senior Citizens when she was able.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dennis Will officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Griggsville Fire Department or Pittsfield HealthCare Center.

Mr. William Murel Cumby
William Murel Cumby, 84, of Jacksonville died Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2001 at his residence. He was born June 30, 1917 near Glasgow the son of Delbert and Elma Cumby. He married Maxine Hatcher on March 7, 1942 and she preceded him in death on January 1, 1991.
He is survived by one son, Dennis (wife, Sheila) Cumby of Roodhouse; two grandchildren; one brother, Ray (wife, Beulah) Cumby of Chetek, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Delbert “Bucky” Cumby and one sister, Thelma Hatcher.
Mr. Cumby worked with Mutual of Omaha from 1958 to 1984, serving as Unit Manager from 1966 to retirement. Prior to that he had worked in orchards at Glasgow, Patterson, Grafton and other locations, and as parts manager at Westnedge Implement in White Hall from the mid 1940’s to 1958.
Mr. Cumby was a member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville, White Hall Masonic Lodge #80 (formerly the Hillview Lodge), Ansar Shrine and the Jacksonville Country Club. Mr. Cumby was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery, near Patterson. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, American Heart Association, or the Kidney Foundation.

Joseph L. Cunningham
Joseph L. Cunningham, 84, of Carrollton died at 7:05 A.M. on Tuesday
August 14, 2001 at his residence.
He was born November 9, 1916, in rural Carrollton, the sixth of eleven
children of Arthur Jackson and Mary Eliza Robinson Cunningham. At
Carrollton High School he excelled in football, basketball and track, and was
a consistent winner of the mile run event in track. After graduation in 1935
he was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Bradley University in Peoria but
due to illness in the family he was forced to drop out of college in his first
semester. He worked on the family farm until he received an appointment, in
1937,as substitute clerk/carrier at the Carrollton Post Office, later becoming a
city carrier.
On September 16, 1938 he married the former Marjory May Smith at the
home of her parents, Charles H. and Beatrice Borman Smith in Eldred. Four
children were born to this union: Jo Ann Wangelin of Godfrey, Eric Michael
Cunningham of Wheelersburg, Oh. , Jane Smith Mooberry of Elgin and
Garland Levi Cunningham who died as an infant in 1940. Marjory preceded
him in death on Sept. 15, 1949.
Mr. Cunningham and Ada Eileen Smith were married on June 2, 1951
at the Eldred Baptist Church. Four children were born to this union: Daniel
Keith Cunningham, Kay Eileen Ogden and Arthur Joseph Cunningham all of
Carrollton and John Charles Cunningham who preceded in death in 1984.
There are 10 grandchildren and 2 great granchildren surviving and a brother:
Robert Neal Cunningham of Carrollton and a sister: Harriett Jean Rozack of
New Albany, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marjory, 2 sons:
Garland Levi and John Charles Cunningham and 8 brothers and sisters.
In 1955 the Cunningham’s pruchased the 80 acre John Fitzjarrell farm in
the Mt. Gilead area and began a grain/livestock farming operation. In 1957
Mr. Cunningham was appointed Rural Letter Carrier in Kane where he
retired in 1977 after 40 years in the U.S. Postal Service. During this period
he served six years on the Carrollton Community Unit 1 School Board. He
also held many offices in the First Baptist Church in Carrollton where he has
been a member since 1939. He taught a high school boys Sunday School
class 10 years and an adult Sunday School class 30 years.
In 1965 Cuningham’s purchased the Ruby Walker and the Clement
Hartwick adjacent farms at the south city limits of Carrollton. They moved
to the Walker farm. The farm had earlier been the Luneen farm which is
referred to in historical accounts as a popular gathering place for bathing in
the mineral spring there.
Mr. Cunningham was a member of the Green e Co. Farm Bureau, the
Carrollton American Legion, the Stuart E. Pierson Masonic Lodge in
Carrollton and the National Rural Letter Carrier Assoc. He was a 32nd
degree member of the Scottish Rite in Springfield.
Cremations rites were accorded. The family will meet other family and
friends from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday at the Carrollton First Baptist Church
where services will be held on Friday at 10 A.M. with Rev. Aaron Snodgrass
officiating. Burial rites will follow in the Carrollton City Cemetery and
memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund.

Mrs. Hildreth A. Dahman (Watson)
Hildreth A. Dahman, 100, of Jacksonville died Wednesday evening, April 4, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born February 4, 1901 in Lynnville the daughter of Edgar and Stella Taylor Watson. She married Lloyd Dahman on April 11, 1921 at Lynnville and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1974.
She is suvived by one sister, Freda Gunnels of Woodson; one nephew, Darrell (wife, Nancy) Wynn of Jacksonville; one niece, Della Mae (husband, Kenneth) Crow of Waverly, and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Lee Dahman and one sister, Lorena Wynn.
Mrs. Dahman was a member of the Lynnville Christian Church and the Gold Star Mothers Legion Auxiliary in Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial in Franklin City Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Lynnville Christian Church or Barton W. Stone Christian Home.

Mrs. Eva L. Daigh (Brooks)
Eva L. Daigh, age 90, of the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Ill. and formerly of Baylis, Ill. died 1:20 a.m. Friday (May 25, 2001) at the care center.
She was born December 19, 1910 in Chambersburg, Ill. daughter of the late Joe and Nellie Baker Brooks.
She married Harvey Louis Daigh on May 4, 1933 in Perry, Ill. and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1986.
Surviving is one daughter, Frances Daigh-Smith of Fonda, New York; one son, Richard Daigh of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren, Roy Smith and Kevin Smith both of Albany, New York, and Sabrina Smith of Vermont; one great-granddaughter, Zoe Daigh-Fagolette of Vermont; and one brother, Roscoe Brooks of Springfield, Ill..
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Margaret Brown, Vada St. Ores, Lois Myers, and Bertha Read; and one brother, Joe Brooks.
Mrs. Daigh graduated Perry High School and attended Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb, Ill.. She then taught at Morrelville School for one year before aiding her husband with the family farm near Baylis, Ill. She was a member of the Baylis United Brethren Church in Baylis, Ill.. She enjoyed gardening, her family and family gatherings.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 29, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. Burial will be in Mc Cord Cemetery in Perry, Ill.. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the Baylis United Brethren Church.

Mr. David F. Daigh
David F. Daigh, age 89, of Perry, Illinois died Sunday afternoon (December 16, 2001) at Liberty Village in Pittsfield, Ill.
He was born June 9, 1912 in Perry, Ill. son of the late Charles and Nora Chenoweth Daigh.
He married Marie Daniels on August 26, 1943 in Griggsville, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is one son, Frank Daigh and wife Jill of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; and three brothers, Percy “Bud”, James and Fred Daigh.
Mr. Daigh was a 1931 graduate of Perry High School in Perry, Ill. and attended Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill. He was owner/operator of Daigh’s Hardware in Perry, Ill. for many years. Later working at Trio Manufacturing in Griggsville, Ill. and Bader’s AgriService in Meredosia, Ill.. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting ducks, deer and enjoyed fishing. He also loved to carve and paint duck decoys as well as fish and songbirds.
He was a past board member of Perry High School serving many years on the board, and a past member of Valley City Boat Club.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (December 20, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dorothy Fellhauer officiating. Burial will be in McCord Cemetery in Perry, Ill. Friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Perry United Methodist Church or to the Perry Cemetery Association.
