Mr. Leon Dale
Leon Dale, age 69, of rural Roodhouse, died Sunday, May 20, 2001 at
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Haypress, the son of Frank and Pearl
Johns Dale.
He married Joyce Evelyn Dawdy on May 7, 1950 in Hillview and she
preceded him in death on May 25, 1996.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan (husband, Robert) McMillen
of White Hall; two sons, Larry (wife, Marti) Dale of Hot Springs, Arkansas
and Ricky Dale of Clover, South Carolina; twelve grandchildren; seven
great grandchildren; a nephew, Michael Gansz of Jacksonville, Florida, who
was raised in his home; and two brothers, Paul “Pete” Dale of Carrollton
and Hubert Dale of Cottage Hills. He was preceded in death by seven
sisters, Goldie Evans, Louise Allen, Bea Camerer, Mildred Savage,
Margaret Goodman, Flossie Foley and Maxine Gresham; and two brothers,
Franklin and Kenneth Dale.
Mr. Dale enjoyed riding horses and was a member of the Quarter
Horse Association, the Paint Horse Association and a member of many
local saddle clubs. He worked with and trained horses and was a farrier,
shoeing horses all over the country. He had farmed his farm east of
Roodhouse since 1957. He was a member of the Athensville Baptist
Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2001
at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the Pine
Tree Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00
p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Pine
Tree Cemetery.
Mrs. Stella Marie Daniel (Lawson)
Stella Marie Daniel, age 91, of White Hall, formerly of Alsey, died
Monday morning, Aug. 27, 2001 at the White Hall Multicare Center in
White Hall.
She was born Nov. 25, 1909 in Scott County, the daughter of Harry
and Alice Suter Lawson.
She married Harold “Jack” Daniel on April 6, 1930 and he preceded
her in death on Nov. 12, 1981.
She is survived by one son, Dean (wife, Kay) Daniel of White Hall;
one daughter, Viola “Tootie” (husband, Lloyd) Camp of Sterling; seven
grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren; and one sister, Sadie Evans of Bethalto. She was preceded
in death by four brothers, James, Charles, Andy and George Lawson and
two sisters, Melissa Lawson and Mary Preston.
Stella was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of White Hall.
She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, a homemaker and she
loved to write poetry.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001
at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the
Manchester Cemetery at Manchester. The family will meet friends from
1:30 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials
are suggested to the Calvary Baptist Church or White Hall Multicare Center
Activities Fund.
Mrs. Ruth Daniel (Marshall)
Ruth Daniel, 84, of Jacksonville died Saturday morning, January 27, 2001 at Prairie Village Health Care in Jacksonville. She was born on November 15, 1916 in Beardstown the daughter of Swain and Ruth Smith Marshall. She married Leonard Daniel on November 16, 1941 in Washington, D.C. and he survives.
She is also survived by one son, Steve (wife, Sarah) Daniel of Godfrey; one daughter, Brenda (husband, Walter) Stayton of Green view; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one brother, John (wife, Jo) Marshall of Otto, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Marshall and Harold Marshall, and three sisters, Marion Zenge, Margaret Neff, and Thelma Elane Gross (surviving husband, Dean R. Gross of Jacksonville.)
Mrs. Daniel was a member of First Christian Church in Jacksonville and enjoyed sewing and volunteer work.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at First Christian Church in Jacksonville with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch.
Mr. William Dale Davenport
William Dale Davenport, 80, of White Hall, Illinois, formerly New Canton, Illinois area, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in White Hall Multicare Center, White Hall, Illinois.
He was born February 2, 1921, in South Palmyra Twp, Macoupin County, Illinois, a son of Wyatt and Yetta Brown Davenport. They preceded in death.
Surviving are: one sister; Isabel Ward of Fruitland Park, Florida; two brothers; John (wife Mary) Davenport of Hamburg, Illinois; Harry (wife Mary) Davenport, of Carrollton, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; Mary Vivian Davenport and Marian Thelma Casteel.
He graduated from Green field High School, Green field, Illinois, and was a trucker most of his life. He was a member of the New Canton United Methodist Church, and New Canton Masonic Lodge.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, Illinois. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Oak Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, Illinois. Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mildred G. Davidson (Deaton)
Mildred G. Davidson, 88, of Jacksonville died Thursday morning, July 26, 2001 at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. She was born February 20, 1913 in Jacksonville the daughter of Robert C. and Rosa P. Stout Deaton. She married W. Raymond Davidson on June 16, 1940 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1976.
She is survived by several cousins.
Mrs. Davidson was a member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville, Jacksonville Women’s Club, where she served as past president, Morgan County Garden Club, Morgan County Organization of Women’s Clubs, where she served as past president, the board of 20th District of Illinois Federated Women’s Clubs, Jacksonville Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she served as past president and AARP. She also served as Secretary of the HIA Board of Directors.
Mrs. Davidson was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from MacMurray College in 1934. Upon graduation she joined the district staff of the National Reemployment Service in Jacksonville before being transferred to the state headquarters in Chicago. In 1938 she joined the administrative staff at MacMurray College, where she served for 38 years. She served in the department of public relations, admissions, alumnae affairs and for the last 15 years as college registrar, before retiring in 1975. She had also taught one year at Jacksonville High School.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2001 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Central Christian Church.
Mrs. Sarah A. "Sue" Davis (McMurray)
Sarah A. “Sue” Davis, 68, of Jacksonville died Tuesday morning, September 4, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born January 31, 1933, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Aaron Fredrick and Anna Ranft McMurray. She married Alvin Rogers Davis on October 20, 1949, in Hope, Arkansas, and he preceded her in death on February 26, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick (wife, Gloria) Davis of Mt. Carroll and Michael Davis of Kennesaw, Georgia; two daughters, Peggy (husband, James) Davidsmeyer of Jacksonville and Kathi (husband, Phil) Schaefer of Moline; six grandchildren and three sisters, Margaret (husband, Denny) Rotz of Forsyth, Shirley (husband, Loyd) Thompson of Lincoln, Nebraska and Joyce (husband, Wilbur) Sweazy of Decatur. She was preceded in death by an aunt and uncle, Floyd and Ethel Hierman by whom she was raised, three brothers, Kenneth (surviving wife, Thelma Hierman of Sulligent, Alabama), Glenn (surviving wife, Mary Lois Hierman of Winchester), and Pete Hierman, and one sister Helen Marie McMurray.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and later worked at Meyer’s Jewelry Store in Beardstown. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. Mrs. Davis especially enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and reading.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday with the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Memorial Medical Center 7th Floor Intensive Care Unit.
Mr. Carl W. Davis
Carl W. Davis, 79, of Chapin died Monday afternoon, August 20, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on October 13, 1921 in Springfield the son of Charles R. and Anna Pointer Davis. He married Virginia Lau on April 21, 1943 in Jacksonville and she survives.
Mr. Davis is also survived by one son, Charles L. Davis of Chapin, and one sister, Oreana Hankey of Kankakee. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Davis retired from the Wabash and Norfolk Railroads after 38 years of employment. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a member of Harmony Lodge #3 A.F.&A.M., Consistory, and the Chapin American Legion.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Chapin Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Margaret Davis (Myers)
Margaret Myers Davis, age 75, of Huntington Station, New York and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died 12:30 a.m. Sunday (November 18, 2001) at her residence.
She was born May 27, 1926 in Griggsville, Ill. daughter of the late Charles W. and Vida L. Sweeting Myers.
Surviving is one son, Scott Michael Davis of Huntington Station, New York; one brother, Ralph Myers and wife Mary Margaret of Griggsville, Ill.; a niece, Jeanette Six of Green ville, South Carolina; two nephews, David Myers and wife Julie and Dan Myers all of Griggsville, Ill.; two great-nieces, Jessica Six of Green ville, South Carolina and Audrey Myers of Griggsville, Ill.; two great-nephews, Justin Six and wife Kristin of Quincy, Ill. and Benjamin Myers of Griggsville, Ill.; and one great-great-niece Leah Six.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. and was a self-employed private-duty nurse. She had made her home on Long Island since 1952. She was an avid gardener who derived great pleasure from her flowers and starting flower gardens for her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday (November 24, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.
Marilyn Horton Davis
Marilyn Horton Davis, 73, of Pittsfield and formerly of Rockport passed away early Monday evening (September 3, 2001) at Pittsfield Health Care.
She was born November 12, 1927 in Lake Village, Arkansas the daughter of the late Gaston Earl and Esther Horton McCallister.
She married Elgan Allen Davis October 1, 1960 in France. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her were her parents and a brother Gaston E. McCallister.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter Holly Davis of Salinas, California a son John Davis of Anchorage, Alaska, 2 step daughters Susan (Jim) Bailie of Jacksonville, Florida and Elizabeth Davis of State College, Pennsylvania. 2 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Ms. Dorothy "Doe" Davis (Fortner)
Dorothy “Doe” Davis, 76, of Jacksonville died Monday evening, March 19, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on March 24, 1924 in Tallula the daughter of Shelva E. and Helen Ellenwood Fortner.
She is survived by one daughter Tahni Smith of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Amy Smith and Andy Smith; one great-grandson Trenton Thomas; one niece, Debra (husband, Don) Stockey and one nephew, Steven (wife, Pat) Tribble of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Smith; and one sister, Jeanie Tribble.
Ms. Davis retired after serving as a technician at Jacksonville Developmental Center for over 30 years.

Mrs. Verna J. Dawdy (Ford)
Verna J. Dawdy, age 88, of White Hall, died early Wednesday
morning, Oct. 24, 2001 at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
She was born May 1, 1913 in Hillview, the daughter of William
Curtis and Lora Adele Schutz Ford.
She married DeVere C. Dawdy on March 26, 1930 at Hillview and he
preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1973.
She is survived by one daughter, Juanita Rollins of Roodhouse; one
daughter-in-law, Marguerite Dawdy of Johns Island, South Carolina;
thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; eight great-great
grandchildren; one sister, Norma Pruitt of Bethalto and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Dale; one son,
Robert Dawdy; three sisters, Nellie B. Dawdy, Bertha M. Bland and Della
McClenning; and five brothers, George Ford, Curtis Ford, Lloyd Ford,
Wilson Ford and Norbert Lee Ford.
Mrs. Dawdy owned and operated the Cozy Corner Restaurant in
Hillview for 7 years and then worked for Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville
for 14 years, retiring in 1968. She has been a member of the Hillview
Baptist Church since May 1923. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors
of America Camp 9099 at Hillview and a member of the Green e County
Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 at
the Hillview Baptist Church in Hillview with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery
near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at
the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Memorials are suggested
to the Pine Tree Cemetery Association or the Hillview Baptist Church.
