Kyle Lucas DeGroot
Kyle Lucas DeGroot, 16, of rural Arenzville died Friday, November 16, 2001 near Concord, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born July 24, 1985 in Jacksonville the son of Kevin E. and Marcia L. White DeGroot.
He is survived by his parents of rural Arenzville; two brothers, Justin and Travis, both at home ; one sister Caitlin at home; paternal grandparents, Ed and Barbara DeGroot of Concord; maternal grandparents, Robert and Barbara White of Concord; paternal great-grandmother, Marie DeGroot of Jacksonville; his girlfrend, Jana Baker of Chapin, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kyle was a junior at Triopia High School. He loved hunting, fishing and his truck. He had played football at Triopia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Concord Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Kyle DeGroot Memorial Fund.
Mr. Howard Deitrick
Howard Deitrick, 73, of Peoria died Saturday afternoon, December 15, 2001 at his residence. He was born February 5, 1928 in Concord the son of Daniel and Esther Brown Deitrick. He married Mildred Hierman on December 18, 1949 at Annie Merner Chapel in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Deborah Deitrick of Peoria; Rebecca (husband, Robert) Gottschalk of Germantown Hills and Cynthia Deitrick of Springfield; one step-grandson; one sister, Lucile Fotzler of Rockford and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Deitrick was engaged in farming in the Concord and Arenzville area until moving to Jacksonville in 1957 where he was a flight instructor and commercial airline pilot for Byerly Aviation. He moved to Peoria in 1959 and flew for Byerly Avation and was the flight instructor for the Bradley University ROTC students. He then flew for Keystone Consolidated Industries as the Director of Transportation and Chief Pilot until his retirement. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Peoria County Farm Bureau. He was a past member of the Pleasant Valley Grade School Board and the National Business Aircraft Association, where he was awarded the Million Mile Safety Award.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at Concord Cemetery, There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Alpha Park Library in Bartonville or the Concord United Methodist Church. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ernest Howard Dennison
Ernest Howard “Denny” Dennison, Jr., 88, of Ellisville, Missouri died Saturday afternoon, January 20, 2001 in St. Louis. He was born on May 12, 1912 in Downing, Missouri the son of Ernest H. Dennison, Sr. and Lutie Randle Dennison. He married Lena Hammer on October 17, 1931 in LaSalle, Illinois and she currently resides in their home in Ellisville, Missouri.
Lt. Dennison is survived by three children: Randle (wife, Virginia) Dennison of Chesterfield, Missouri; Larry (wife, Luanne) Dennison of Creve Coeur, Missouri; and one daughter, Anita Dennison Johnson of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Mae Dennison, Ruth Elizabeth Rowe, and Thelma Irene Schupback.
Lt. Dennison graduated from High School in Downing, Missouri. He attended Culver Stockton College, N.M.S.T.C., and the International Police Acadamy at Northwestern University in Chicago.
In 1937, 7500 men applied for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and of this number, only 500 were chosen to take the mental and physical examinations. Lt. Dennison was one of only 36 chosen from this group of applicants to join the Patrol. He began his duty on July 1, 1937 in Kirkwood, Missouri, and served in troop headquarters in Unionville, Hannibal, Macon, and St. Louis. After 35 years of service tho the Patrol, Lt. Dennison and his wife retired to Sarasota, Florida in 1972. They returned to St. Louis in 1998.
Lt. Dennison was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manchester, Missouri, Sons of the American Revolution, and the Masonic Lodge of Hannibal, Missouri. He organized the first adult men’s Sunday School class (King’s Men) at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hannibal.
Lt. Dennison competed throughout the United States and Canada in Senior Olympic and Athletic Competitions from 1988-1999, beginning at the age of 76. During that time he won 170 Gold Medals, 48 Silver, and 16 Bronze. He competed in Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, and Weight Throw. In 1989, he set the U.S. Senior Olympic record in the Shot Put at Washington University in St. Louis. In 1992, he set the Canadian National Olympic record for the Weight Throw.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Arenzville, Illinois, with burial at St Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manchester, Missouri. The Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
Veda DeSpain
Veda DeSpain, 86, of Perry passed away early Sunday morning (July 8, 2001) at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.
She was born April 15, 1915 in Nebo the daughter of the late John and Percy Turnbaugh Stone.
She married John Ernest DeSpain January 10, 1934 in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death March 26, 1980.
Mrs. DeSpain worked at Brown Shoe Factory for many years, she was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church. She enjoyed serving lunch on Mondays at the church building. She was a dedicated friend to many. Her family gave her great pleasure every day of her life. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her family; she was also their friend.
Surviving are her children Larry DeSpain of Blandinsville, Betty (husband Homer) Allen of Griggsville, Bobbie (husband Wayne) Chenoweth of Perry, Ronnie (wife Linda) DeSpain of Barry, and Gary (wife Jean) DeSpain of Carlinville. 13 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren a 1 step great great granddaughter.
Also surviving are 2 sisters Alta Manker of New Salem and Clara (husband Bud) Cawthon of Pittsfield. A brother Carl (wife Evelyn) Stone of Pittsfield and 2 sisters in law Kathryn Stone of Hannibal, Missouri and Thelma Stone of Jefferson City, Missouri.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, 2 brothers Lynn Stone and William Stone, 2 sisters Opal Butler and Wilma Kahle, a granddaughter Rhonda Wombles and a step granddaughter Tawny Hays.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday (July 11, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville.
Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery at Perry. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund at the Perry United Methodist Church.
A lunch will be held at the church following the services on Wednesday.
Carmelita A. Dirksmeyer (Becker)
Carmelita A. Dirksmeyer, 67, of Carrollton died at 11 P.M. on Wed. Dec. 12,
2001 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Michael, Ill. on Jan. 15, 1934 she was the daughter of the late
John W. and Lela M. Kaiser Becker.
She married Raymond Dirksmeyer on Aug. 2, 1952 in Kampsville and he
preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 2000.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Mrs. Fred “Jackie” Clifford of Murrayville,
Mrs. Rick “Judy” Kastler of DeKalb, Joan Davis of Riverton, Jean
Dirksmeyer and her fiance Rene Cabrara of Springfield, 2 sons John (wife
Debbie) Dirksmeyer of Carrollton and David (wife Karen) Dirksmeyer of
Beardstown, 11 grandchildren, 3 sisters: Mrs. Ron “Rosemary” Evans of
Carrollton, Evelyn Vetter of Kampsville, Patsi and Larry Pohlman of
Godfrey, and 4 brothers: Harold (wife Carol) Becker of Bloomington, Ralph
(wife Opal) Becker of Kampsville, Jerome (wife Virginia) Becker of
Kampsville and Eugene (wife Angie) Becker of Fresno, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Earl Davis, 2 brothers:
Sylvester Becker and John “Jack” Becker and a sister: Helen Honts.
Mrs. Dirksmeyer was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in
Carrollton, the Eldred American Legion Aux., the Catholic Daughters of
America and the University of Ill. Home Extension of Green e Co.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral
Home in Carrollton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sat. at 10 A.M. at
St. John’s Catholic Church with burial in Eldred Memorial Gardens Cem.
Memorials are to Blessing Hospice and Boyd Mem. Hospital.
Lorraine Jeanette Dixon (Hickey)
Lorraine Jeanette Dixon, 70, of Carrollton died at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday
at her daughter’s residence following a lengthy illness.
Born on March 17, 1931 in Springfield she was the daughter of the late
John and Mildred Inoez Hickey.
She married Don Dixon in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1982.
Surviving are 3 daughters: Mrs. Richard “Connie” Fennell Sr. of
Pittsburgh, Pa., Mary Turner and her fiance Pete Ramarize of Springfield,
Mrs. Bob “Patty” Stendeback of Carrollton, 2 sons -Don (wife-Sharon)
Dixon of Oakford, Ill. and Justin Dixon of Roodhouse. 9 grandchildren and
7 great grandchildren also survive. 2 sisters: Jo of Springfield and Midge of
Highland and 2 brothers: Russ Hickey of Athens and Ross Hickey of
Springfield.
She was preceded in death by a son Michael Dixon, 2 brothers: John and
Patrick Hickey and a sister Melva Ann.
Visitation will be from 9 A.M. until service time at 11 A.M. on Saturday
at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be in the
Winchester City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Hospice
of Green e Co.
Floyd C. Dixon
Floyd C. Dixon, 91, of Carrollton died at 7:32 A.M. on Thursday August
30, 2001 at Green wood Manor West in Jerseyville.
Born in Linder Twp. on April 15, 1910 he was the son of the late Floyd C.
and Maude Hargiss Dixon.
On April 15, 1938 he married the former Helen Edwards at the
Providence Baptist Church in Linder Twp. She preceded him in death on
Nov. 30, 1993. Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dixon was a lifelong farmer and good friend to all. He was a
member of the Providence Cemetery Board and took a very personal interest
in the cemetery.
Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral
Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Saturday at 2 P.M. with
burial to follow in the Providence Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the
Providence Cemetery Maintainence Fund.
Mr. Charles "Charlie" Doane
Charles “Charlie” Doane, age 72, of Perry, Ill. died 8:52 a.m. Sunday (December 2, 2001) at his residence.
He was born June 3, 1929 in Perry, Ill. son of the late Raymond and Margaret Rodway Doane.
He married Louise Meado on June 3, 1955 in Perry, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is one sister, Elizabeth Moore of Bowling Green , Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Rodway and Rowland Doane.
Mr. Doane attended Dexter school and graduated in 1947 from Perry High School in Perry, Ill. Mr. Doane was a U.S. Army veteran serving in 101st Airborne during the Korean War and was a member of the Perry American Legion Post #1040. He was employed by Maro Johnson Trucking before becoming owner/operator of Doane Trucking. He served on the Perry Village board for eight years and was instrumental in the organization of the annual Perry Pioneer Days. He enjoyed going to the “liar’s table” at the local coffee shop and visiting with all the people.
Graveside committal services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (December 5, 2001) at McCord Cemetery in Perry, Ill. with his nephew Rev. Bryan Meado and friend Duane Pool officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Perry American Legion Post #1040. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Perry Cemetery Association or Blessing Hospice of Pike County. Lunch will be served following the services at the Perry American Legion Hall in Perry, Ill.
Mr. William "Rodway" Doane
William “Rodway” Doane, age 76, of Perry, Ill. died 1:20 a.m. Monday (March 5, 2001) at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill..
He was born September 27, 1924 in Perry, Ill. son of the late Raymond and Margaret Rodway Doane.
He married Barbara “Bobby” Brooks on September 1, 1945 in Perry, Ill. and she preceded him in death November 12, 1971. He later married Faye Bell Boyd and she preceded him in death in February of 1977.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Crystal) Veillette of Vero Beach, Florida and Mrs. Jerry (Tammy) Morath of Quincy, Ill.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Mike (Angela) Dodson of Ashland, Ill., Anthony Horton and wife Dana of Charlotte, North Carolina, Christy Horton of Ipava, Ill., Brooks Syrcle of Quincy, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, April Perry of Versailles, Ill., Ethan Horton of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mairyn and Madisyn Dodson both of Ashland, Ill.; one sister, Elizabeth Moore of Bowling Green , Mo.; one brother, Charles Doane and wife Louise of Perry, Ill.; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; one son, Ronnie Doane; one brother, Roland “Rollie” Doane; one grandson, William “Willie” Couch.
Mr. Doane was a 1942 graduate of Perry High School in Perry, Ill., a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a 50 year member of the Perry American Legion Post #1040. Mr. Doan aided his wife Bobby with the operation of the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Perry, Ill. from the late 1960’s until August of 1971. He was also a handyman in the Perry Community and enjoyed bowling and motorcycles.
Graveside memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wilson Cemetery in Perry, Ill. with Jerry Morath officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans of America. Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ronald Eugene Dodge
Ronald Eugene Dodge, 61, of Bluffs died Sunday morning, November 25, 2001 at Prairie Village Health Care in Jacksonville. He was born on August 5, 1940 in Waverly the son of Ernest Clyde and Ellen Watkins Dodge.
He is survived by four daughters, Cindy (husband, Mark) Miller and Sandy (husband, Joe) Weder, both of Winchester; Tammy Dodge (fiancé, Cole Powell) of Glenarm, and Robin (husband, David) Graves of Jacksonville; one son, Ronald Dodge II of Bluffs; eight grandchildren; one sister, Cathy Reynolds of Jacksonville; and one brother, Walter (wife, Virginia) Dodge of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Alice Dodge.
Mr. Dodge was an operating engineer with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #965 in Springfield. He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion in Bluffs, VFW in Waverly, and the Trinity Lutheran Church at Neeleyville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Murle Edwin Dolen
Murle E. Dolen, 84 of Winchester died Monday afternoon (February 26, 2001) at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.
He was born May 1, 1916 in Winchester the son of the late Robert and Molly Quinn Dolen.
He married Grace Claywell December 3, 1938 in Bowling Green , Missouri. She survives at home.
Also surviving are his children Judith Bender of St. Louis, MO, Ed (wife Jeanette) Dolen of Winchester, Connie (husband Steve) Nestler of Elmhurst, Shirley Wright-Jacquot (husband Bill) of Winchester and Bob Dolen of Winchester.
4 grandchildren Kirsten Nestler, Troy Dolen, Justin Wright and Ashlyn Jacquot. A sister Mary Jane (husband Dave) Davis of San Antonio, Texas.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Frank Dolen and a sister Anna Margaret Blackburn.
Mr. Dolen was employed by Illinois Rural Electric Company as a Field Engineer for 35 years retiring in 1978. He was a 1934 graduate of Winchester High School. He had been a member of the Farm Bureau and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Pioneer Lodge 70 in Winchester.
He enjoyed playing cards and dancing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday (March 1, 2001) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call on at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
