Alma L. Langdon
Alma L. Langdon, 93, of Jacksonville died Tuesday morning, July 10, 2001 at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. She was born on September 5, 1907 in Murrayville the daughter of John W. and Bridget Lonergan Langdon.
Surviving is one brother, Paul (wife, Peggy) Langdon and one sister, Ilene Langdon both of Jacksonville, and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marie Egan.
Miss Langdon had been employed by General Telephone in the business office, for JSP Transportation, and for the Jacksonville Journal Courier in the circulation department. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour , the Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar and Rosary Society.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2001 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Murrayville. Friends may call at the Williamson Funeral Home after 2 p.m on Thursday with Rosary Services at 5:30 p.m., Prayer Services at 5:45 p.m. and the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Church of Our Saviour or to Barton W. Stone Christian Home.
Mr. James L. Lanhum
James L. Lanhum, age 61, of Hull, Ill. died Wednesday afternoon (January 3, 2001) at his residence.
He was born March 21, 1939 in Pittsfield, Ill. son of Leonard Lanhum and Marie Lanhum Brown.
He married Wilma N. Galloway on January 4, 1975 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Marie Brown of Pittsfield, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Teresa) Ralph of Pittsfield, Ill.; one son, James E. Lanhum and wife Kim of Pittsfield, Ill.; three step-daughters, Davine Welch and Dorinda Wells both of Hannibal, Mo., and Mrs. Robert (Doretta) DeLaPorte of Palmyra, Mo.; one step-son, Demetrius Welch and wife Kathy of Pittsfield, Ill.; seventeen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patty Tayon of Griggsville, Ill., Judy Hemstead of Ojai, California, and Mary Ann Dabney of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one stepson, David Welch.
Mr. Lanhum attended Pittsfield High School and was a former employee of WIPCO and Sny Island Levee Drainage District. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and drinking coffee with his friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday (January 6, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Ron Abney officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to the Pike County Ambulance.
Gafford Jimmy Lee
Gafford E. “Jimmy” Lee, 80, of Jerseyville formely of Green e Co. died at
8:30 P.M. on Friday June 29, 2001 at Jerseyville Community Hospital.
Born in Springfield, Mo. on Jan. 22, 1921 he was the son of the late
William F. and Ruth Williams Lee.
He first married Bertha Camerer and she preceded him in death. He
later married the former Linda Sue Isringhausen in Belltown on March 29,
1984 and she survives. Also surviving are a son Robert E. Lee of Hardin, 5
step-daughters: Barbara Estes of Kane, Judy Herter of Hardin, Beverly J.
Bushnell and Beverly A. Bushnell of Des Moines, Ia., Bonnie K. Johnisee of
Hardin and 2 step sons: Richard Estes of Kane and Raymond Roundcount of
Hardin. Several step grand and step great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a step daughter: Jacqueline Johnisee, a half
sister: Elizabeth Lee and 3 brothers: Otto, Edward and Bobby Lee.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the Maritime Marines. He
continued working on the barge line following the war until retirement in
1981. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Jerseyville.
Cremation rites will be accorded and memorial graveside rites will be
held on Wednesday July 4 at Eldred Memorial Gardens in Eldred.

Mr. Silas Milton Lemons
Silas Milton Lemons, age 76, of Milton, Ill. died Monday morning (June 25, 2001) at the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill.
He was born September 20, 1924 in Milton, Ill. son of Bert O. and Trula Chandler Lemons.
He married Barbara J. Denison on March 29, 1947 in Milton, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Lisa Lemons of Colchester, Ill.; one son, Lanny Lemons and wife Darla of Milton, Ill.; three grandchildren, Bart, Mallory and Blair Lemons all of Milton, Ill.; three sisters, Mardelle Campbell and Melba Lemons both of Milton, Ill., and Evelyn Land of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one brother, Tom Lemons of Milton, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene and Robert F. “Pete” Lemons.
Mr. Lemons was a 1942 graduate of Milton High School and was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Milton Christian Church and was an elder and sat on the church board and served as deacon for many years. He was very active in the county serving on Pike County Board, Supervisor for Montezuma Township, and the Pike County Soil Conservation Board. He was employed by Pike County Implement in Milton, Ill. for 25 years and was a retired farmer.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (June 28, 2001) at the Milton Christian Church with Pastor Jerry Edison and Bro. Robert Hammitt officiating. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery in Milton, Ill.. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m.. Mrs. Beatrice C. Lewis (Smock)
Beatrice C. Lewis, age 84, of Jacksonville, died Thursday afternoon,
Jan. 11, 2001 at the Coulterville Care Center in Coulterville.
She was born May 26, 1916 in Grafton, the daughter of Russell and
Lavetta Sarah Brown Smock.
She married Conrad Dale Lewis on Dec. 21, 1934 and he preceded
her in death on Aug. 19, 1972.
She is survived by two daughters, Jerry Heggemeier of Nashville, IL
and Nancy C. Green of Lawton, OK; eight grandchildren; nine great
grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald Smock of Roodhouse. She was
preceded in death by four brothers, Charles “Bud” Smock, Robert
(surviving wife, Mary, of Jacksonville) Smock, Russell Smock and Billy
Gene Smock; and two sisters, Frances Carnahan and Maxine Blackburn.
Mrs. Lewis had been a cashier at IGA in Sparta and Kroger in
Coulterville. She was of the Protestant faith.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at
the Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. Memorials are suggested to the
Labor Drive Tenants Council in Jacksonville or the Hospice of Southern
Illinois Orange South Team at 305 S. Illinois Ave., Belleville, IL 62220.

Mr. Leonard Liehr
Leonard Liehr, 92, of Springfield and formerly of Perry and Meredosia, died early Wednesday morning, June 6, 2001 at Lewis Memorial Village in Springfield. He was born on March 24, 1909 on the family farm near Perry, the son of Ernest J. and Helen Geisendorfer Liehr. He married Frances Walker April 2, 1938, in Perry, and she survives in Springfield.
He is also survived by a son, David R. Liehr of Springfield; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lois Liehr of Perry and Amelia “Susie” Skoby of Rolla, Missouri and three brothers: Wilbur of Galva, John David “JD” of Perry and Albert of Normal. He was preceded in death by one son; two brothers: Robert and Paul and one sister, Frances Okeson.
Mr. Liehr attended Dexter country school and was a 1928 graduate of Perry High School. He also completed a certificate degree in Auto Mechanics from Bradley University Institute of Technology in Peoria in 1931. He operated a garage in Perry until 1941 when he went to work as a millwright, setting factory machinery and installing conveyor systems during the war, converting factories for war production. He also worked as millwright, carpenter and welder, building power plants in Jacksonville, Meredosia, including Passavant Area Hospital. He worked for Allis-Chalmers in Beardstown and as a welder at a Coal Mine near Astoria. He operated Liehr Chevrolet in Meredosia and the Locker Plant in Perry. Mr. Liehr retired from Fiat-Allis in 1975. He was instrumental in starting the Meredosia Church of Christ. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and he loved telling stories.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Parkway Church of Christ on Bruns Lane in Springfield and at 3:00 p.m. at the Perry Church of Christ, with burial at Wilson Cemetery in Perry. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Parkway Church of Christ in Springfield and from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the Perry Church of Christ. The Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Harry Liehr
Harry Liehr, age 91, of Perry, Ill. died 7 p.m. Saturday (February 10, 2001) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill..
He was born September 1, 1909 in Perry, Ill. son of the late Fred and Laura Hoos Liehr.
He married Helen Marie Walker on December 31, 1931 in Perry, Ill.. and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Donald Liehr and wife Maria of Del Rio, Texas, Gene Liehr and Roger Liehr and wife Ruth Anne all of rural Perry, Ill., and Richard Liehr and wife Barbara of Perry, Ill.; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Liehr of Perry, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mary Liehr Wagner.
Mr. Liehr was a 1928 graduate of Perry High School in Perry, Ill. and farmed his entire life in Perry Township. He was a member and past board member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and a member of the Perry United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (February 13, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dorothy Fellhauer officiating. Burial will be in McCord Cemetery in Perry, Ill.. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Perry United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Stella Mae Liming (Miller)
Stella Mae Liming, 86, of Jacksonville died Friday evening, September 14, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on July 2, 1915 in Jacksonville the daughter of Luther and Janie Miller. She married Francis O. Liming in 1936 and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Louise (husband, Ed) Castleberry of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, one step-grandchild; 14 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Herbert Liming and Roy Liming; two sisters, Lilly Gillespie and Nancy Ermon; and two brothers, Fred Miller and Bob Miller.
Mrs. Liming was a homemaker and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Jacksonville East Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Marvin T. Lindsay
Marvin T. Lindsay, 86, of Jacksonville died Tuesday evening, September 25, 2001 at his residence. He was born December 6, 1914 in Lanark the son of James and Emma Tallman Lindsay. He married Josephine Sedlacek May 27, 1947 in Berwyn. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Lisa (husband, Mike) Dobson of South Bend, Indiana and Linda (husband, Jack) Minder of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; loving grandchildren; and one brother, Maynard Lindsay of Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his son, James Lindsay.
Mr. Lindsay was employed by Illinois Bell for 40 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Private graveside services will be held. Memorials are suggested to Visiting Nurses of Central Illinois. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Alicegene Lloyd (Surratt)
Alicegene Lloyd, 71, of Jacksonville died Sunday evening, August 12, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on April 15, 1930 in rural Morgan County the daughter of Osie and Pearl DeOrnellos Surratt. She married C. Warren Lloyd on September 5, 1953 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1999.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan (husband, Rocky) Merreighn of Quincy and Kris (husband, J.R.) Wilkerson of Normal; four grandchildren, Bridgett (husband, Charles) Zanger and Merle (wife, Jessica) Merreighn, both of Quincy, and Kasie Wilkerson and Michael Wilkerson, both of Normal; two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Ossie Surratt of Jacksonville. Mrs. Lloyd was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Wood and three brothers, Herman Surratt, Harold Surratt, and Donald Surratt, (surviving wife Betty of Jacksonville.)
Mrs. Lloyd retired in April of this year after over 24 years of employment at Hertzberg-New Method Book Bindery. She had earlier been employed at J.Capps and Sons. Mrs. Lloyd was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville and had also been organist and custodian at Chapin Christian Church in Chapin. She had been a 4-H Leader and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at East Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the donor’.
Mrs. Harriett Hanley Lockman
Harriett Hanley Lockman, 74, of Jacksonville died Friday morning, May 25, 2001 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield. She was born March 7, 1927 in Rockford the daughter of John W. and Stella Fox Hanley. She married Charles Lockman on June 14, 1948 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and he survives.
Mrs. Lockman is also survived by five daughters, Joan M. Ryan and Patricia L. Lockman, both of Jacksonville, Carol Ann (husband, Rick) Dwiggins of Wood River, Barbara (husband, Bill) Long of Franklin, and Molly L. (husband, Ted) Harris of St. Louis; four sons, Tom (wife, Cathy) Lockman of Savoy, Joe Lockman of Jacksonville, Stephen Lockman of Chicago, and Timothy (wife, Teresa) Lockman of Jacksonville; nineteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Sr. Mary Gloria Hanley, O.P. of Chicago Heights; and one brother, C.M. (wife, Barbara) Hanley of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Lockman was preceded in death by one grandson, Mitchell A. Dwiggins; one sister, Virginia McGrath (surviving husband Jim of Springfield), and one brother, John Hanley.
Mrs. Lockman was a homemaker and had enjoyed working part-time at the S’Squire Shop in Jacksonville from 1980-90. As an active mother of nine children, she was involved in all her children’s activities, including Girl Scouts as a Leader, Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, and participation on the PTA, Lay Advisory Board, and numerous others. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Our Saviour and was active in the Catholic Daughters of America, Altar and Rosary Society, and the Routt Catholic High School Alumni Association. Mrs. Lockman had attended Illinois College and was especially proud of her bridge club, which has been in existence for over 50 years. Mrs. Lockman was most happy as a mother, grandmother, and best friend to her husband.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 28, 2001 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville with burial at Calvary Cemetery, also in Jacksonville. Friends may call after 12 Noon on Sunday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends following a 3:45 p.m. prayer service, until 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Chuck and Harriett Lockman Scholarship, which has been established through the Routt Catholic High School Education Foundation; the Chuck and Harriett Lockman Scholarship which will be established through the Our Saviour School Scholarship Foundation; or to St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.
Mr. Harvey L. Long
Harvey Leland Long, 71, of Franklin, Illinois, died on Monday, June 25, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois. He was born on January 19, 1930 in Murrayville, Illinois, the son of Javan Julius and Jenni Elizabeth Long.
Surviving are one son: Thomas Edward (wife, Darleen) Long of Franklin; three daughters: Linda (husband, Kelly) Ryan; Kim (husband, Jeff) Moeller and Robin (husband, Mike Fromme all of Franklin, Illinois; one brother: Roy of Waverly; two sisters: Myrtle Hendricker of Shelbina, Missouri and Marjorie (husband, Duke) White of Franklin, Illinois; eight grandchildren and a special friend, Vi Drennan. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; two brothers and four sisters. He was a retired farmer and was active in various dance clubs in the Springfield area.
Following cremation, graveside services will be held AT 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or to the Donor’s Choice. The Neece Funeral Home in Franklin is serving the arrangement.
Mrs. Mary D. Lovelace (Barnett)
Mary D. Lovelace, age 67, of Patterson, died Friday afternoon, July
13, 2001 at her residence.
She was born Oct. 16, 1933 in Patterson, the daughter of Jay Jennings
and Helen A. Owdom Barnett.
She married Howard B. Lovelace on June 25, 1955 in Patterson and
he survives.
She is also survived by three sons, Faron Lovelace of Idaho; Roger
(wife, Connie) Lovelace of Exeter and Danny (wife, Sandy) Lovelace of
Illiopolis; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three brothers,
Melvin “Pete” Barnett and Dean Barnett, both of White Hall and David
Barnett of Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her
parents and one son, Carl Lovelace.
Mrs. Lovelace worked for the State of Illinois for several years. She
and her husband lived in Dubuque, Iowa for 25 years, where she worked at
Woolworth’s and Hardy Drug Store in Dubuque for several years, before
retiring and moving to Patterson in 1991. For the last 10 years they cared
for their parents during their illnesses. She was the Patterson Township
Supervisor and attended the Wilmington Baptist Church in Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the Pine Tree
Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the
funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or
Blessing Hospice of Green e County.
