Mr. Donald E. Loveless
Donald E. Loveless, 75, of Palmyra, died Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at his home in Palmyra. He was born on April 24, 1926 in Carlinville, Illinois, the son of Ernest, Sr. and Lois Lomelino Loveless. He married Rose Bridges of Hettick, Illinois, formerly of Waverly, on March 25, 1950 and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters: Joquena (husband, Danny) Downs of Hettick, Maria (husband, Jim) VanBebber of Loami, Laura C. “Christie” (husband, Vernon) Smith of Palmyra; three sons: Donald E., Jr. (wife, Brenda) Loveless of Hettick, Hayward A. (wife, Rosemary) Loveless of Hettick and Marcus A.Loveless at home; his mother, Lois Loveless of Palmyra; two sisters, Betty Gallagher of Springfield, Missouri and Sandra (husband, Howard) Little of Waterman, IL; three brothers: Ernest (wife, Cleo) Loveless of Monroe City, Indiana; Roger (wife, Phyllis) Loveless of Louisiana, Missouri and David Loveless of Palmyra; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Loveless, Sr. and a daughter, Roberta Jean Loveless.
Mr. Loveless has been a lifelong farmer and farm trucker. He shelled corn, bailed hay and straw, and sheared sheep around the country for many years. He was a 19 year member of the Elks Lodge #1412 in Carlinville, Illinois and the Moose Club in Litchfield, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2001 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society; Hospice Care of Illinois, c/o Memorial Medical Center Foundation; The American Lung Association; or to the family.
Mr. Kenneth "Von" Lowe
Kenneth “Von” Lowe, 72, of South Jacksonville died Saturday evening, March 24, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born July 13, 1928 in Lincoln the son of Wilmer Staley and Frances Cora Fielder Lowe. He married Norma J. Reveal on January 7, 1951 in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Sheila (husband, Michael) Meyers and Celeste (husband,Randy) Lindsey both of South Jacksonville; three sons, Eddie Lowe of Springfield, Greg (wife,Linda) Lowe of Franklin and Brian Lowe of South Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren ; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Lowe of Jacksonville and one sister, Jean Taylor of Centralia. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dean Lowe, Weldon Lowe, Lyle Lowe and Don Lowe; and three sisters, Vivian McCammon, Lela May Smith and Beverly Mountjoy.
Mr. Lowe had been employed with Pathway Services Unlimited in Jacksonville since 1986. He served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Lowe was an auto parts salesman for United Wholesalers in Jacksonville for 27 years. He later worked at Meline’s Nursing Home before taking employment with Pathway.
Mr. Lowe was a well-known dance band vocalist in the Jacksonville area, having sung with the Bob Sassenberger Band, the Boots Brennan Combo, and Hi-Lo Jack and the Dame. He enjoyed music of all varieties and sang at hundreds of weddings and other services through the years.
“Von” was very dedicated to war veterans. He participated in the Walk to Washington D.C. for the Vietnam Memorial, and was instrumental in organizing the Vietnam War Memorial in Springfield and in Jacksonville, his name appearing on both memorials. He was a member of American Legion Post 279 in Jacksonville and a founding member of the 40/8 Voiture; and had been a member of local VFW and Amvets posts. Mr. Lowe served as Master of Ceremonies for many years for the local Memorial Day ceremonies.
Mr. Lowe was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home. Friends may call after noon on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Private burial services will be conducted. Memorials are suggested to Pathway Services Unlimited or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Mr. Lee Roy Lowery
Lee Roy Lowery 73, of Virden, died Monday, February 19, 2001 in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born July 19, 1927 in Dedrick, Missouri, the son of Samuel and Gladys Lenore Lawrence Lowery. He married Helen Cordelia Hicks on February 17, 1956 in Virden, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters: Linda (husband David) Lindsay of Dewey, Illinois; Millie (husband Harold) Gilpin of Cuba, Illinois; Carol (husband Jeff) Baggerly of Springfield; one brother Clifford (wife Jean) Lowery of Girard, Illinois; two sisters: Doris (husband Rich) Morris of Midlothian, Illinois; Lida Huitt of Apple Valley, California; one brother-in-law Noel (wife Wanda) Hicks of Palmyra, Illinois; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In 1993 he retired from Prairie Farms Dairy after 40 years, having worked in Canton, Illinois, San Jose, Illinois and Carlinville, Illinois. He also farmed. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and Canton Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2001 in Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. The Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2001, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or The American Heart Fund.
Mrs. Norma Jeanne Lyman (Williams)
Norma Jeanne Lyman, age 66, of White Hall, died Saturday evening,
April 7, 2001 at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
She was born March 26, 1935 in Jacksonville, the daughter of
Lantham and Opal Beck Williams.
She married Harold M. Lyman in 1955 at Springfield and he
preceded her in death on March 1, 1992.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Cox of White
Hall and Brenda Shores of Carbondale; one granddaughter, Risha Cox of
White Hall and two sisters, Joanne Day of Hudson and Judy Mast of
Springfield, Missouri. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold
Richard Williams.
Mrs. Lyman attended Lanphier High School in Springfield. She was
owner and operator of the Gift Box store in White Hall for many years and
was recognized as the Business Woman of the Year in 1983 by the
Carrollton Business and Professional Women Organization.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the White Hall
Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the White Hall Multicare Center
Activity Fund.
Mr. Herman Russell Maddox
Herman Russell Maddox, 83, of Madison Heights, Virginia died on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia.
He was the husband of Darlene Collins Maddox, formerly of Waverly.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Neece Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. William R. "Bill" May
William R. “Bill” May, 80, of Jacksonville died Tuesday morning, December 18, 2001 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born March 15, 1921 in Alton the son of Irven and Florence Mielke May. He married Betty Watson on August 29, 1953 in White Hall and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Beverly (husband, Charlie) Savage Rhine of Waverly; three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; two step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Freda Bartlett of Alton. He was preceded in death by one brother, Irven “Bud” May, and four sisters, Alma, Ada, Marilda, and Mary.
Mr. May retired from SmithKline Beecham at White Hall in 1986 after 33 years of employment. He served in the United States Army, 33rd Infantry, in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars for his service. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Jacksonville Moose Lodge, and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and particularly Irish fires. Mr. May adored his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at White Hall Cemetery in White Hall. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army of Jacksonville.
Mr. Glenn Dale Mayberry
Glenn Dale Mayberry, 65, of Jacksonville died Thursday morning, August 23, 2001 at Passavant Transitional Care Unit in Jacksonville. He was born on June 2, 1936 in Alexander the son of Joe G. and Althea Edmonds Mayberry. He married Wanda Jean McArtor on December 21, 1957 at the Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Kimberly (husband, David) Cunningham of Louisiana, Missouri and Tracy Smith of Jacksonville; two sons, Curtis (wife, Nancy) Mayberry and Eddie Joe (wife, Nola) Mayberry, both of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, and one sister, Evelyn (husband, Herman) Nagle of New Berlin. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Mayberry, Russell Mayberry, and Ray Mayberry (surviving wife Helen of Jacksonville), and one infant sister, Elinor.
Mr. Mayberry had worked for United Wholesalers for three years prior to selling farm equipment in Jacksonville for 26 years. He later worked at Viles Buick and the IGA store in Jacksonville. He served in the United States Army, enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR racing, joking around with family and friends, and was proud of his nickname “Good Glenn.” Mr. Mayberry had attended the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
The family will meet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Graveside services and military rites will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2001 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield . In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Glenn Mayberry Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Elsie H. Mayes (Moore)
Elsie Harris Mayes, 90, of Waverly died Monday, February 12, 2001 at Lynncrest Manor in Auburn. She was born on June 9, 1910 in Gresham, Kentucky the daughter of Robert and Verdie Lou Paxton Moore. She married Kenneth Earl Mayes in November of 1928 and he preceded her in death in 1979.
She is survived by one son, Donald F. Mayes of Jacksonville; three daughters, Betty L. Turner of Waverly, Barbara Staton of Belvidere, and Joyce Bets of Waverly; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth; three brothers, Lucien, Ralph, and Marvin Moore; and three sisters, Alma Moore, Mary Cruzen, and Ann Pevey.
Mrs. Mayes was a telephone operator, worked as a clerk for J.C. Penney’s and retired as a clerk for the State of Illinois. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters in Waverly.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2001 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad.
Ms. Velma I. Maynard
Velma I. Maynard, 80, of Jacksonville died Thursday evening, September 20, 2001 at her residence. She was born on April 16, 1921 in Jacksonville the daughter of Owen and Flossie Brumett Maynard.
Surviving is one son, Delbert Bunch of Jacksonville one granddaughter, Sarah R. (husband, Jason) Haynes and one great-granddaughter, Deanna Nicole Haynes. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Howard Maynard who died in infancy.
Ms. Maynard had been employed by J.Capps & Sons as a seamstress for 27 years and later at The Carriage Shop and Danner’s. She was also a talented painter and crafted stained glass windows at Liter Baptist Church and the baptistry. She loved wildlife.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. on Saturday with the family meeting friends from 5 to 6 :30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Liter Baptist Church or to Hospice Care of Central Illinois.
Mina M. McAdams (Savage)
Mina McAdams,89, of Carrollton died at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday morning
April 11, 2001 at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton.
Born in Glasgow, Ill. on Nov. 24, 1911 she was the daughter of the late
Edward and Mary Clanton Savage.
She was married to Harvey Bryant who preceded her in death and later to
Ervin Mitchell and James L. McAdams.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Mary C. Middleton of Port St. Lucie, Fla.,
Geraldine Bryant of Alton, Beulah Henson of Palmyra, Shirley Ann Shive of
Virginia, Ill. 2 sons: James R. Bryant of Jacksonville and Mike Bryant of
Alabama. Several grand and many great grandchildren. A half sister
Marjorie of California also survives.
Preceding her in death was a son Harvey Edward Bryant.
Mina was a nursing assistant and had worked at Boyd Memorial
Hospital. She also worked at the State Hospital in Jacksonville. She loved
her family and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Graveside rites will be held on Friday at 2 P.M. at Green pond Cemetery
near Pearl. Friends may call at the cemetery after 1 P.M. that day.
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Margaret "Maggie" McCartney (McGreevy)
Margaret “Maggie” G. McCartney, age 102, of Roodhouse, died
Tuesday evening, March 13, 2001 at Jersey Community Hospital in
Jerseyville.
She was born Aug. 5, 1898 in Summer Hill, the daughter of James
and Olive Muholland McGreevy.
She married Ross Taylor McCartney in Dec. of 1917 in Louisiana,
Missouri and he preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1938.
She is survived by one daughter, Margaret Louise Chapman of
Roodhouse; six grandchildren, Michael “Mike” McCartney, Penny
Vortman, Candy Osborne, all of Roodhouse and Cindy Eberle, Dianne Fultz
and Melanie Dablhauser; and sixteen great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one son, James Henry “Bud” McCartney, one
daughter, Olive Marion Eberle; one grandson, James Michael “Mike”
Chapman; two sisters, Maleta Smith and Beatrice McGuire and two
brothers, William McGreevy and Jimmie McGreevy.
Maggie and Taylor McCartney moved to Roodhouse when Taylor
started working for the Alton Railroad. She worked at the Roodhouse
Envelope Company for 25 years, retiring in 1964. She enjoyed sewing and
cooking and loved to sit on the front porch at home in nice weather.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday,March 16, 2001 at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Roodhouse. The family will meet friends from 3:00-5:00
p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Committal services will be held at 10:00
a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the Pittsfield West Cemetery in Pittsfield. Memorials are
suggested to the City of Roodhouse Cancer Relay for Life Team or
Roodhouse Meals On Wheels.
Mrs. Flossie M. McDevitt (Crawford)
Flossie M. McDevitt, 96, of Carlinville, died Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Carlinville, Area Hospital.
She was born on May 21, 1905, in Palmyra, the daughter of Grant and Maude hays Crawford. She married Ernest Lee Roy McDevitt on September 25, 1935 in Hettick and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1996.
She is survived by one sister, Faye Scroggins of Palmyra and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Freida Molen and one sister in infancy.
After retiring from Olin Mathison Ammunition Company in Alton in 1972, Mr. and Mrs. McDevitt moved to Carlinville. She was a lifetime member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers and a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church in rural Girard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Stults-Neece Funeral home in Palmyra with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday after 2 p.m. with the family meeting friends from 5-8 p.m. mewmorials are suggested to Pleasant Dale Baptist Church.
Cecelia A. McGuire
Cecelia A. McGuire, 77, of Winchester passed away early Friday evening (May 4,2001) at Pittsfield Health Care.
She was born November 26, 1923 in Alsey the youngest of 10 children to Thomas H. and Harriet “Hattie” Montgomery McGuire.
Surviving are 2 sisters Florence McGuire of Winchester and Harriet Peeler of Monroe, Louisiana, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, 2 brothers Lee and Fred McGuire, and 5 sisters Mildred Seitenator, Margaret McGuire, Anna Bryant, Genevieve McCluskey and Blanche Rasor.
Miss McGuire was a member of St. Marks Church in Winchester.
She enjoyed watching movies and loved flowers.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at St. Marks Church in Winchester. Burial will be in St. Marks Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 pm Monday the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester were the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 5:30 PM.
