Mr. Jack L. Rueter
Jack L. Rueter, 69, of Winchester died Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on June 8, 1932 in Bloomfield the son of Harvey C. and Mary I. Hardister Rueter. He married Elsie M. Badman on October 26, 1951 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming October.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda (husband, Michael) Clifford of Marietta, Georgia; three sons, Paul (wife, Karen) Rueter and Jay (wife, Ruth Ann) Rueter, both of Winchester, and Mike (wife, Melanie) Rueter of Manchester; twelve grandchildren, one brother, Don Rueter of Jacksonville, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rueter attended Scott County schools. He farmed in rural Winchester from 1951 to 1985. During this time he served on the Scott County Volunteer Ambulance Service, the Scott County Soil and Water Conservation Board, including a term as president, and was Emergency Service Disaster Coordinator.
Mr. Rueter began his career in law enforcement in 1983 joining the Scott County Sheriff’s Department as a radio operator and deputy. He graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training on March 17, 1989. He went to work for the Winchester City Police Department at this time and served as Chief of Police in 1995-1996. Since his retirement in 1996, he has assisted his sons at Marshall Chevrolet in Winchester and remained a deputy sheriff.
Mr. Rueter had hosted the “Gospel Hour” music program on WJIL Radio during the 1970’s, at which time his family traveled singing gospel music as the “Singing R’s”. Mr. Rueter was a member of Winchester First Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 Noon on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Following the committal on Friday, a reception will be held at the Nimrod Funk Building on the Scott County Fairgrounds. Mrs. Judith K. Rueter (Christiason)
Judith K. Rueter, 61, of Jacksonville died early Thursday morning, May 24, 2001 at her residence. She was born on May 15, 1940 in Winchester the daughter of Homer and Geraldine Cummings Christison. She married Donald G. Rueter on June 4, 1961 in Winchester and he survives.
She is also survived by three sons, Bruce (wife, Nelda) Rueter of Bellflower,California, Richard Rueter of Jacksonville, and Jim (wife, Cindy) Rueter of Bluffs; five grandchildren; one brother, Claude (wife, Connie) Christison of Jacksonville; two sisters, Pauline Miller of Jacksonville and Mildred (husband, Louis) Flurry of White Hall; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Christison.
Mrs. Rueter had been employed at the Jacksonville Developmental Center. She enjoyed needlework, collecting Beanie Babies, and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Central Illinois, Jacksonville Branch.
Mrs. Geneva L. "Larry" Ruyle (Larimore)
Geneva L. “Larry” Ruyle, age 74, of Roodhouse, died Wednesday
afternoon, Oct. 10, 2001 at her residence.
She was born Feb. 12, 1927 in Quincy, the daughter of Ray and
Martha Bock Larimore. Her father survives in Quincy.
She married Alfred Daniel “Red” Ruyle on July 26, 1958 in
Murrayville and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Annie Chaffin of Roodhouse;
one granddaughter, Laramie; two brothers, Ray L. (wife, Pat) Larimore of
Bella Vista, Arkansas and Larry Larimore of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and
three sisters, Dorothy (husband, Robert) Bellis of Quincy; Gloria (husband,
Charles) Jackson of Quincy and Caroline Larimore of Santa Clara,
California; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
her mother.
Mrs. Ruyle received her Bachelor of Science degree from WIU and
her Masters Degree from MacMurray College in Jacksonville. She was a
physical education teacher at Table Grove schools for four years, then
taught for 38 years at Roodhouse schools and the North Green e School
District, retiring in 1990. She and her husband raised Registered Angus
Cattle at Roodhouse for over 50 years. She was a member of the American
Angus Association and the Illinois Valley Cattlemans Association. She was
also a member of the Chapter BU P.E.O. in Roodhouse and a member of
the Congregational Church of Payson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13,
2001 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the
Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. The family will meet friends from
4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
North Green e Junior High Physical Education Department.
Mr. Paul Bernard Ryan
Paul Bernard Ryan, 80, of Waverly, died on Sunday, December 9, 2001 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
He was born on December 3, 1921, in Jacksonville, the son of Frank J. and Irma Kepler Ryan. He married Barbara Joyce Sexton on June 6,1947 and she preceded her in death on February 11, 1994.
He is survived by three sons: Mike (wife, Becky) and Robert, both of Waverly and Kelly (wife, Linda) of Franklin; three daughters: Carol (husband, Alan “Pete”) Peterson, Madonna White and Becky Gideon, all of Waverly; two brothers: Jerry (wife, Caroline) Ryan of Beardstown and Richard “Mickey” (wife, Frances) Ryan of Springfield; two sisters: Mary Ellen Ryan and Rose Ryan, both of Springfield; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard, in infancy and four brothers: Robert Ryan, Maurice Ryan, Donald Ryan and William “Pete” Ryan.
Mr. Ryan graduated from Waverly high School in the class of 1940. He retired from the Iloinois Schollfor the Dead as a Cottage Parent. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Waverly, Waverly American Legion Post 262 and Waverly VFW Post 4866.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Waverly with burial at Waverly east Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad.
Mr. Earl Sandman
Earl Sandman, 81, of Murrayville died Wednesday morning, May 16, 2001 at White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall. He was born on August 27, 1919 in Exeter, the son of Arthur and Ada Story Sandman. He married Maxine Landes on July 14, 1946 in Lynnville and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Brenda (husband, Dean) Havens of Murrayville; one son, Ray (wife, Kaye) Suter of Jacksonville; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Sandman had been a produce manager, working at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store on the square, A. & P. and Jim’s Big Value. He later worked at Purity Bakery prior to retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching trap shooting at the Jacksonville Sportman’s Club, and watching airplanes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. E. Alene Savage (Northrop)
E. Alene Savage, 90, of the Barton Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville, Ill. and formerly of Winchester, Ill. died early Sunday morning (November 18, 2001) at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill.
She was born January 30, 1911 in Scott County, Ill. daughter of Albert “Bert” and Elizabeth Moore Northrop.
She married Buell Savage on December 25, 1941 in Manchester, Ill. and he preceded her in death on February 17, 1983.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews including, Margaret Hendricks, Joyce King and husband Wayne all of Jacksonville, Ill., Russell Dunnagan and wife Faye of Tuscola, Ill., Gayle McEvers and wife Carol and Don Savage and wife Peggy all of Winchester, Ill..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Josephine Dunnagan, one brother, Howard Northrop; one half sister, Hazel Halter; and one half brother, Basil Northrop.
She was a graduate of Winchester High School and attended both Western Illinois Teacher’s College in Macomb, Ill. and MacMurry College in Jacksonville, Illinois.
She taught in various country schools throughout Scott County, Ill. as well as Carrollton, Illinois and Patterson, Illinois. She was a member of the Alsey Baptist Church in Alsey, Ill. where she was active and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association, Scott County Farm Bureau, Royal Neighbor’s of America and Scott County Home Extension Association. She enjoyed gardening and baking.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (November 20, 2001) at the Alsey Baptist Church in Alsey, Ill. with Rev. Jackie Hobbs and Rev. David Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery near Alsey, Ill.. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester, Ill. where family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m.. Betty Ann Savage (DeShasier)
Betty Ann Savage, 68, of Glasgow passed away early Tuesday morning (April 24, 2001) at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born January 3, 1933 in White Hall the daughter of the late Charles and Mae Cox DeShasier.
She married Walter Kenneth Savage September 12, 1953 in White Hall at the home of Rev. Ollie Phillips.
Mrs. Savage was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her children, genealogy and coin collecting. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in White Hall. She attended White Hall schools.
Survivors include her husband Walter Kenneth Savage at home. Her children Kenneth Michael Savage of Springfield, Cathy Ann (husband Dohrn) Howard of Patterson, Carla Sue (husband Paul) Burton of Orange Park, Florida, Shirley Colleen (husband Rich) George of Roodhouse and Warren Shiloh (wife Tracy) Savage of Winchester. 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. 6 sisters Darlene McAdams of Winchester, Linda DeShasier of Missouri, Harriet Lockhart of Jacksonville, Patsy Bushnell of White Hall, Nina DeShasier of Colorado and Edna Rochester of Virginia. 6 brothers Louie DeShasier of White Hall, Ed DeShasier of Griggsville, Tom DeShasier of Missouri, Danny DeShasier of Alton, John DeShasier of Wyoming and William "Bil" DeShasier of Beckmeyer.
Preceding her in death was a brother Gene DeShasier and a brother and 2 sisters at birth.
Graveside Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday (April 26, 2001) in the Glasgow Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM on Wednesday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester where the family will meet with friends 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Elma L. Savage-Dixson (Shipe)
Elma L. Savage-Dixson, 91, of Jacksonville died Monday morning, August 20, 2001 at her residence. She was born on November 27, 1909 in Lima, the daughter of Edward and Agatha Barton Shipe. She married Ernest C. Savage on September 13, 1930 in Pittsfield and he preceded her in death on June 15, 1973. She then married Joseph D. Dixson in August, 1984 in Springfield and he preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellender Morris of Jacksonville and Sheryl Burman of Annapolis, Maryland; two step daughters, Barbara (husband, David) Guest of Rochelle and Susan (husband, William) Smith of Glen Ellyn; one step son, Dr. Michael (wife, Pam) Dixson of Spokane, Washington; seven grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elvin M. Shipe (surviving wife, Dorothy of Hannibal, Missouri) and Merlyn Shipe.
Mrs. Savage-Dixson graduated from Quincy High School, Illinois College, and received her M.A. Degree from the University of Illinois before entering into her career as an educator. She taught English and Latin for 1 ½ years at Franklin High School and 28 ½ years at Jacksonville High School. She was an adjunct professor at Illinois College from 1975-83.
As a longtime member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville, Mrs. Savage-Dixson taught Sunday School and served as deacon, elder, and elder emeritus. She organized the XYZ Senior Potluck Program at the church and served as the program’s president and coordinator.
Following her retirement from teaching, Mrs. Savage-Dixson held many offices: president and service chairman of Church Women United; lifetime member, program chairman and president of American Association of University Women; president, director, and program chairman fro AARP; president and program chairman for Tri-County Retired Teachers; and was a member of the League of Women Voters nominating committee. She was a member of the Project Life Board for Senior Services in Springfield and was a member of the Illinois State Legislative Bard of AARP with the Capitol City Committee in Springfield.
Mrs. Savage-Dixson also held memberships in Chapter IE, P.E.O., College Hill, and History Class literary clubs; Gamma Upsilon of Beta Sigma Phi, and Alpha Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, in all of which she has been president and program chairman; and Project LIFE, Girl Scouts, and Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading, and preparing gourmet foods.
Mrs. Savage-Disxon was recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Service Award at Illinois College in 1981; and was one of 77 women aged 75 and over honored by the Illinois Department of Aging in conjunction with Women’s History Month in 1995. She was inducted into the Jacksonville Hall of Fame in ------.

Mrs. Eileen R. Schickedanz (O'Meara)
Eileen R. Schickedanz, 79, of Chatham died Tuesday morning, January 2, 2001 at her residence. She was born on August 30, 1921 in Jacksonville the daughter of Edward and Mary Callahan O’Meara. She married Russell K. Schickedanz on August 30, 1941 in St. Louis and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1998.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra (husband, Robert) Hockensmith of Decatur; one son, Philip Schickedanz of Chatham, one grandson, and one sister, Catherine Wolfe of Chatham. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary O’Meara, Theresa McGinnis, Marjorie Bourn, and Patricia Reed; and two brothers, Robert O’Meara and Joseph O’Meara.
Mrs. Schickedanz was secretary to the Auditor at Elliott State Bank in Jacksonville for many years. She had been a member of the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and was currently a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chatham.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 until 8 p.m., at which time a Rosary service will be conducted. Mrs. Charlotte Edna Schier (Barber)
Charlotte Edna Schier, 78, of Auburn died Saturday afternoon, December 15, 2001 at her residence. She was born on December 24, 1922 in rural Morgan County the daughter of Harry and Lottie Braner Barber. She married John Ward “Doc” Schier on February 17, 1955 and he preceded her in death on June 4, 1988.
She is survived by one nephew, Edward W. (wife, Ina) Hall of Grand Cayman, British West Indies; one niece, Barbara Hall of Kapolei, Hawaii, one great-nieces and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by one step-son, Robert; one sister, Margaret B. Hall; and twin brothers in infancy.
Mrs. Schier was a registered nurse having worked at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church near Jacksonville. She also devoted a lot of her time as a volunteer at Parks Memorial Nursing Home in Auburn.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2001 at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Wesley United Methodist Church. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mildred Shanle Schmalz (Carter)
Mildred Shanle Schmalz
Mildred Shanle Schmalz, 88, of Jacksonville died Saturday morning, July 7, 2001 at her residence. She was born on February 22, 1913 in Jacksonville the daughter of Sylvester and Ann Hopper Carter. She married Raymond J. Shanle on November 4, 1939 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1981. She then married George A. Schmalz on April 2, 1986 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on March 19, 1999.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggy (husband, Robert) Rieman of St. Charles, MO; two sons, Thomas Shanle of Santa Cruz, CA. and William (wife, Pam) Shanle of Germantown, TN; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Carter and one sister, Frances Brooks.
Mrs. Schmalz had been a homemaker and active mother of three, serving as a scout leader for all three of her children. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and the Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Schmalz had worked at the Our Saviour gift shop and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10. 2001 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m on Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Central Illinois, Jacksonville Branch.
John H. Schnelten
John H. Schnelten, 77, of Carrollton died unexpectedly at 5:05 A.M. on
Sat. Feb. 10, 2001 at the Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born near Carrollton on Sept. 9, 1923 he was the son of the late John W.
and Anna M. Wonsewitz Schnelten.
On Sept. 11, 1946 he married the former Barbara Ellen Williams in
Carrollton and she survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in-law: John M. “Mike” and Jan
(Proffer) Schnelten and Robert J. and Vicki (Bland) Schnelten both of
Carrollton and 1 daughter: Lisa Schnelten and her close friend Stacey Kempf
of Roodhouse, 4 grandchildren: Bobbi Jo Gillis, Daryl Ray Schnelten, Kelli
Lyn Schnelten and Brian Michael Schnelten, 3 sisters: Mrs. Howard
“Rosalia” (Rosie) Edwards of Jerseyville, Mrs. Charles “Doris” Finley of
Green field, and Mrs. Donald “Mary” Steinacher of Carrollton.
He was a lifelong farmer and member of St. John’s Catholic Church in
Carrollton. He loved playing cards, especially euchre. He will be sadly
missed by family and friends.
There will be no formal visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on
Monday Feb. 12, 2001 at 10 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in
Carrollton with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be
made to St. John’s Church, the Green e Co. Health Dept. or Blessing Hospice
of Green e Co. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of

Eva Ruth Schofield
Eva Ruth Schofield, 89, of White Hall formerly of Eldred died at 8:25
P.M. on Thursday at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1912 in Carlinville. She was preceded by her
parents and raised by her grandmother, the late Ora Weiser.
She married Arnold Schofield on Dec. 19, 1927 in Hardin and he
preceded her in death in 1975.
Surviving are: 7 daughters: Mrs. Bill “Ora” Flamm of Eldred, Mildred
Settles of White Hall, Carol “Peggy” Chapman of Nillwood, Shirley Ruyle of
Carrollton, Judy Bruechard of Green ville, Mrs. David “Margaret” McKinon
of Hardin and Mrs. Larry “Pauline” Ruyle of Stanley, N.C., 2 sons: Dale
(wife -Shirley) Schofield of Artesia, Calif. and Ronald Schofield of Berdan.
There are many grand, several great-grand and many
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Frank Schofield and 3 infant children,
as well as, 1 brother and 5 sisters.
Mrs. Schofield was a member of the Baptist Faith.
Graveside rites will be held on Saturday at 2 P.M. at the Dayton
Cemetery south of Eldred. Memorials are mentioned to a charity of one’s
choice. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of
arrangements.
