Mr. H.F. "Bud" Schutz
H.F. “Bud” Schutz, age 76, of rural White Hall, died Monday
afternoon, March 26, 2001 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
He was born March 18, 1925 in White Hall, the son of Ernest K. and
Edith Hubbard Schutz.
He married Amelia James on May 19, 1951 in Patterson and she
survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Kenneth (wife, Gail) Schutz and
Robert (fiancée, Bonnie) Schutz, both of rural White Hall; eight
grandchildren, Chad (wife, Stacy), Genny, Kelsey, Brock, Jake, Addi,
Ashley and Blane; and one sister, Ruth Tribble of Columbia. He was
preceded in death by one sister, Mary Joan Schutz and one brother, Ernest
Franklin Schutz.
Mr. Schutz graduated from the White Hall High School in 1943. He
farmed south west of White Hall his entire life and was a member of the
Green e County Farm Bureau. He served on the North Green e School Board
from 1969 to 1981. He was a member of the White Hall Masonic Lodge
#80 and the Ansar Shrine. He was also a member of the Illinois Walking
Horse Association Board for many years and had organized the White Hall
Lions Club Horse Show for many years. He was a member of the
Wilmington Baptist Church in Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29,2001 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the White Hall
Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at
the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the White Hall First United
Methodist Church or the Hillview Baptist Church.
Miss Lillie Scott
Lillie Scott, 61, of Jacksonville, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on April 9, 1940 in Danville, the daughter of John and Anna Scott and they precede her in death.
Miss Scott was a member of the Methodist faith.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Friends may call from 12:00p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Williamson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Immanuel East Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Leroy E. Scott
Leroy E. Scott, 72, of Carrollton died on Sunday at 9:35 P.M. at the
Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
Born in Alton on Sept. 12, 1928 he was the son of the late James William
and Albert Josephine Scott.
On March 4, 1954 he married the former Elizabeth Mullink in Bunker
Hill and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter: Sue Sievers of Carrollton and a son Stanley
Scott of New York City. 2 grandchildren: Travis and Shannen Sievers, a
sister Mrs. Harold “Betty” Mullink of Carrollton.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother: Everett A. Scott.
Mr. Scott was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member
of the Eldred American Legion Post. He had been owner and operator of the
Oasis Restaurant and Lounge from 1956 until 1997. He was an avid golfer
and lifelong St. Louis Cardinal Fan who attended spring training many times.
Visitation will be from 4- 8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton. Services will be held at the funeral home on
Wednesday at 10 A.M. with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery in
Carrollton. Full military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Eldred
American Legion Post. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society or the American Heart Assoc.
Mr. Howard A. Seely
Howard A. Seely, age 79, of rural Hillview, died Thursday morning,
May 10, 2001 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Nov. 30, 1921 in Hillview, the son of Claude and Mittie
Rutherford Seely.
He married Lucille Kornack on March 24, 1948 in Springfield and
she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Daniel (wife, Claudia) Seely of
Hillview; two daughters, Sharon Brown of Winchester and Deborah Deal of
Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Shannon, Scott, and Ryan Seely; and Mike
and Mark Brown; five great grandchildren, Brett, Kurt, Brad, Alyssa and
Kayla; and one great-great grandchild, Landen. He was preceded in death
by one sister, Helen Seely and three brothers, Glen, Floyd and Hal Seely.
Mr. Seely was a life long farmer taking over the farm at age 16, upon
the death of his father. He lived his entire life in the house where he was
born. He was a member of the Green e County Farm Bureau, a life long
Democrat and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed hunting and being
outdoors and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He was a good and
generous man, often sought out by others for advice about farming.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 13 2001 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Hillview
Baptist Church or Pine Tree Cemetery.
Mrs. Ada Rose Settles (Cox)
Ada Rose Settles, age 87, of White Hall, died early Friday morning,
Sept. 28, 2001 at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton.
She was born Dec. 7, 1913 in Walkerville, the daughter of Ira Elwood
and Anna Mae Steward Cox.
She married William E. Settles and he preceded her in death on July
26, 1982.
She is survived by three daughters, Joyce (husband, Myrl) McEvers
of White Hall; Barbara (husband, Joseph) Danyluk of Riverside, CA and
Sue (husband, James) Vinyard of Pittsfield; three sons, Ronald (wife, Hazel)
Settles of Green field; Byron (wife, Georgene) Settles of Ninevah, IN and
Billy D. (wife, Jan) Settles of Wapella; a daughter-in-law, Linda Settles of
Jacksonville; twenty-six grandchildren; fifty great grandchildren; and six
great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary
Settles; one granddaughter, Bekka Settles; six brothers, Newton Cox,
Vernon Cox, Orville Cox, Roy Cox, Earl Cox and Lowell Cox; and three
sisters, Addie Settles, Susie Nance and Velma Cox.
Mrs. Settles was a member of the White Hall First Christian Church.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at
the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the White
Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday
at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s
choice.
Mr. Walter Howard " Bud" Seymour
Walter Howard “Bud” Seymour, 81, of Scottville died Monday morning, February 5, 2001 at Carlinville Area Hospital. He was born June 6, 1919 in Modesto the son of Galen Robin and Ada Louanna Fairburn Seymour.
He is survived by one sister, Mary (husband, Gerald) Ball of Modesto, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Dowland, Virginia Jones, Betty Butler and Margurite Pearson.
Mr. Seymour retired from the Morgan County Highway Department. Prior to working for the highway department, Mr. Seymour had done a variety of mechanical work. He had been Macoupin County (Scottville Township) Road Commissioner. He served in the United States Army during World War II, in Northern France and Central Europe.
Mr. Seymour enjoyed antique steam and gasoline engines and had attended the Old Settler’s Days at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa for 25 consecutive years. He was a member of Harts Prairie Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2001 at Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra with burial at Bull Cemetery in rural Franklin. Friends may call after 3:30 on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Wilbur "Jack" Shaw
Wilbur “Jack” Shaw, 69, of Carrollton died on Friday Nov. 23, 2001 at the
John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis.
Born in Carrollton on May 12, 1932 he was the son of the late Wilbur W.
Shaw and Leta Custer Shaw of Carrollton.
Surviving besides his mother are: 5 brothers: Larry Shaw of Curryville,
Mo., Garry Shaw and Robert Shaw of Beardstown, Ronnie Shaw of
Carrollton and Dennis Shaw of Covington, Tenn., 8 sisters: Jean Russell of
Jerseyville, Donna Becker of Green field, Vickie Fry of Ft. Bragg, N.C.,
Barbara Garland of Pekin, Linda Hart of Burleson, Texas, Sandra Stout of
Kampsville, Caroline Simpkins of Morgantown, W.VA. , and Sharon Ayres
of Hardin. Several nephews and nieces also survive.
Mr. Shaw was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving both in Korea and
Vietnam from 1970-1975. He was a life member of the Jerseyville VFW.
Visitation will be from 9 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. on Wednesday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Graveside rites will be held at
11 A.M. on Wednesday at the Carter Cemetery just south of Carrollton.
Mrs. R. Lucille Shaw (Garner)
R. Lucille Shaw, age 89, of rural White Hall, died Wednesday
evening, May 30, 2001 at the home of her daughter in rural White Hall.
She was born March 30, 1912 in Winchester, the daughter of Charles
and Myrtle Newingham Garner.
She married Anderson Anthony Shaw on May 26, 1930 in Bowling
Green , Missouri and he preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1974.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Ann (husband, Talley)
Myers of White Hall; one son, Robert H. Shaw of Beardstown; three
grandchildren, LuAnn Mansfield of White Hall, Carrie Sheppard of White
Hall and Catherine Snow of Mt. Sterling; eight great grandchildren, LynAnn
Young, Lucy Mansfield, Laura Mansfield, Anderson Sheppard, Adam
Sheppard and Ashley Sheppard; Jenna Kellerman and Hannah Snow; and
her special sister, Mabel Eldred of White Hall.
Mrs. Shaw and her husband farmed on their farm east of White Hall
for many years, and she was also a caregiver in people’s homes. She was
an avid sports fan and attended many North Green e school sporting events.
She enjoyed reading and helped raise three generations of children and
grandchildren. She was a member of the Roodhouse Methodist Church.
Private family services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001 with burial
in Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Memorials are suggested to the
White Hall Elementary School Library or The Womens Crisis Center in
Jacksonville. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse is in charge
of arrangements.
