Elsie will be remember in many ways, not only for her love for all her children and grandchildren, but her love of life itself. She enjoyed her life up until the last 3 or 4 years when her health began to fail.
She loved to dance! She looked forward to going to her round and square dances, sometimes as many as 3 a week. She would go pick up some of her lady friends and off they would go to Hannibal, Baylis, Perry, or wherever there was a dance, she would be there. Elsie was still dancing at the young age of 85 years.
Elsie was known for her beautiful strawberry patch she and her late husband Bill had when they made there home in Griggsville after retiring from the farm and moving into town. She liked to show off her berries and visiting with special customers that she sold her berries to, making sure they had “big berries”. She lived by the rule to treat others the way she wanted to be treated.
Among other memories Elsie talked about were her days when she was able to work for Ackles Orchard in Griggsville in the packing shed. Oh, she did love that work, it wasn’t work for her though. She would speak about the funny things that happened, kidding around with the other workers, trying to see who could find the biggest apple. Those were what she called the “good ole days”!
