Mrs. Rita Marie Austiff (Moran)
Rita Marie Austiff, 78, of Springfield, and formerly of Jacksonville, died Saturday evening, June 8, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on May 9, 1924 in Amboy the daughter of James and Mary Catherine McBride Moran. She married R. Norman Austiff on February 6, 1945 in Morgan County and he survives in Springfield.
Also surviving are three sons, Ronald (wife, Karon) Austiff of Pekin, Jerry (wife, Sarah) Austiff of Bourbonnais, and Roger (wife, Nancy) Austiff of Reston, Virginia; two daughters, Jane (husband, Alvin) Chesney of Beaufort, South Carolina and Donna (husband, Steve) Belcher of Columbia, South Carolina; 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Catherine Ameling, and one nephew.
Mrs. Austiff graduated from Amboy High School in 1941 and from Dixon Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She was a member of the Army Nurse Cadet Corps during World War II. Mrs. Austiff held several nursing positions at Passavant Area Hospital from 1946-1968. In 1968 she became a clinical instructor for School District #117 School of Practical Nursing and retired in 1986. Mrs. Austiff was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Bull Cemetery near Franklin. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Passavant Area Hospital, First Baptist Church and Salvation Army.
Mrs. Connie K. Allen (Hazelrigg)
Connie K. Allen, age 61, of Chambersburg, Ill. died 5:40 p.m. Saturday (May 25, 2002) at her residence.
She was born June 28, 1940 in Jacksonville, Ill. daughter of the late Glenn and Nina Zimmerman Hazelrigg.
She married Herbert H. Allen on September 17, 1965 at Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Ill. and he survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Kathy Six and Connie Summers and husband Ron both of Jacksonville, Ill., Terri Maier and husband Dan of Fults, Ill., Shaun Rodhouse and husband Rick of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; two sons, Terry Allen of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Tyler Allen of San Diego, California; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Joan Curfman and husband Roger of Griggsville, Ill.; one brother, James Hazelrigg of Perry, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Allen was a 1958 graduate of Perry High School and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill. She was a past employee of Sangamon Electric in Springfield, Ill.
She operated the Pioneer Grill in Perry, Ill. before her marriage to Herbert in 1965. At that time she started helping her husband Herbert in farming.
She was a member of the Chambersburg Christian Church where she was church pianist and organist for many years.
Connie enjoyed painting, poetry, and being a homemaker. But Connie’s greatest love was for her family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (May 29, 2002) at the Chambersburg Christian Church in Chambersburg, Ill. with Rev. Scott Clark officiating. Burial will be in McCord Cemetery in Perry, Ill.. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill.. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Pike County, Ill..
Joseph R. Alexander Jr.
Joseph R. Alexander Jr., 80, of White Hall, formerly of East Alton., died at 9:35 P.M. on Saturday at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall. born in McKeon County, Pa. on Dec. 7, 1921 he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Ula Simpson Alexander Sr. Surviving are a son John Alexander of Menlo Park, CA, a daughter Jane Alexander of Pittsburgh, Pa., 2 grandchildren: Steven and Timothy Barrett, and 3 brothers: Donald of Green sburg, Pa., Deane of Rye, N.H. and Paul of Hampstead, N.H. He was preceded in death by a daughter Lori Barrett and a brother Robert. Mr. Alexander was a draftsman for Sylvania/GTE for many years retiring in 1977. He moved to East Alton and spent most of his remaining years there. He was a World War II Army Air Corps Sgt. He graduated from Kane, Pa. High School and the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in 1942. There are no services scheduled. He will be buried in Roselawn Memory Gardens near Bethalto. Geraldine B. Alfeld (Bowman)
Geraldine B. Alfeld, 79, of Alton (formerly of Carrollton) died at 8:48 A.M. on Sunday Dec. 29, 2002 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton. born in Carrollton on Sept. 12, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Edmund L. and Rosalia Pegram Bowman. Her ancestors were among the earliest pioneers of Green e, Bond, and Madison Counties. The earliest settling in Illinois in 1808. She married at the home of her parents on Dec. 28, 1945, Jack A. Alfeld, newly discharged from 3 years of active duty in the Pacific with the U.S. Army. Together, they lived in St. Louis while her husband attended law school. They returned to their hometown of Carrollton in 1949. He died March 6, 1976 while serving as Green e Co. resident Circuit Judge. Graduating from Carrollton High School the year Pearl Harbor was attacked, she went to attend William Woods College at Fulton, Mo. and Shurtleff College in Alton. She also served with the Red Cross in New York, City during WWII. Jerry was, also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Edna Bowman Wiggins and her brother-in-law, Dr. Walter S. Wiggins. Jerry spent the remaining 8 years of her life in Alton where she enjoyed many friends and senior-related activities. She remained a lifelong member of the Carrollton Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Alfeld Flick and her husband Dr. William Flick of Burr Ridge, Ill. and a son, Philip B. Alfeld of Alton, a grandson Paul William Flick of Los Angeles, a niece, Dana Wiggins of Tampa, Fla. , a great-niece and great nephew, Brett and Conner Kinsey. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Jean Alfeld Caselton and a brother-in-law William Alfeld both of Carrollton. By her express wish, there will be no visitation. She will be buried beside her husband and among the other family members in the Pegram family plot at the Carrollton City Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend a brief graveside service on Friday at 11 A.M. at the Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Daniel W. Allen
Daniel W. Allen, 27, of Jacksonville died Monday morning, June 10, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born July 19, 1974 in Jacksonville the son of William R. and Deborah Ferrara Allen.
He is survived by his father of Jacksonville; his mother Deborah Howard of Glasgow; two sons, Christifer Steven-Michael Allen of Franklin and Tristin Matthew Allen of Jacksonville; one daughter, Mercedes Raelynn Allen of Jacksonville; and one brother, Bill Allen of Jacksonville.
Mr. Allen was a security guard at Fanco on North Main Street in Jacksonville and was a “stay at home” father. He enjoyed developing gaming characters and computer games, and operating remote control trucks.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Glasgow Cemetery at Glasgow. Friends may call after 12 Noon on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to his children.
Margaret P. Ammons
Margaret Pauline Ammons, 89, of Knoxville, Tennessee and formerly of Jacksonville died Sunday morning, September 8, 2002 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born March 10, 1913 in Hamblem County, Tennessee the daughter of J. Paul and Mattie Eta Ola Holt Ammons. She is survived by two nieces; Lucille Sweet of Knoxville, Tennessee and Anna Mae Smith of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by one nephew, Willie Ammons. Ms. Ammons had worked for the Palm Beach Company in the textile industry before retirement . She was a member of the catholic faith. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at the Diamond Grove Mausoleum where entombment will follow. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Glen Edwin Anderson
Glen Edwin Anderson, 75, of Waverly, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born November 3, 1926 in Decatur, IL. a son of Ralph Olaf and Hazel E. Stults Anderson. He married Marie Gibson on June 8, 1946 in Auburn, IL. and she survives. Also surviving are four sons: Lyndel (wife Mary) of Medford, Oregon; Harold (wife Carol) , Ron (wife Patti), and Darrell all of Waverly, IL; one daughter Diane (husband Cecil) Kimberlin of Artesia, New Mexico, ten grand children, fifteen great grand children, one brother Melvin (wife Marion) of Columbus, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Mr Anderson worked as a farmer, a mechanical engineer at Allis Chalmers Proving Grounds and Experimental, and as a truck Driver for Star Delivery Since 1969, retiring in November of 2001. He was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, June 17, 2002 in Waverly First Baptist Church, with visitation at Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, after Noon on Sunday June 16, 2002, with the family receiving friends from Three to Six pm. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Waverly First Baptist Church Building Fund or Waverly Fire and Rescue Squad.
Harvey H. Andrews
Harvey H. Andrews, 71, of Glasgow passed away Thursday morning (May 30, 2002) at his residence.
He was born November 1, 1930 near Winchester the son of the late Allen and Lydia Fundel Andrews.
He married Helen Marie Walker May 29, 1950 in Alsey.
Mr. Andrews attended Winchester schools, he was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a construction worker for 53 years working out of the Laborers local #253. He was a member of the Winchester American Legion Post 442. He loved to read, enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years Helen Andrews at home, 3 sisters Gladys of San Francisco, California, Norma Fowler of Phillipine Islands, and Frances Coats of Oregon also several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 brothers Herman, Gene, and Ray Andrews, and a sister Alice Peak
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday June 2, 2002 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery near Alsey.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to the Winchester EMS.
Mrs. Flossie M. Armes (Coffman)
Flossie M. Armes, 93, of Jacksonville died Saturday evening, March 30, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born May 13, 1908 in Liberty, Kentucky the daughter of Thompsy and Nettie Payton Coffman.
She is survived by three daughters, Marylin Plumier of Chatham, Mary (husband, Edward) Workman and Betty Long both of Springfield, Missouri; two sons, Donald D. Long and Frank Long, both of Jacksonville; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Archie Long and one daughter, Edna Long.
Mrs. Armes worked as an apple peeler in Valley City and held various other jobs in the area. She was also a nanny to several children. She loved reading the Holy Bible, visiting with people and laughing.
Private funeral services were held. The Williamson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Marjorie E. Atkinson, age 90, of St. Louis, Mo. and formerly of Winchester, Ill. died Saturday morning (June 1, 2002) at the Gardenview Nursing Home in O’Fallon, Mo..
She was born June 12, 1911 in Winchester, Ill. daughter of the late Bird “Bert” and Carrie Killebrew Smith.
She married Robert K. Atkinson in Winchester, Ill. and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1997.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Robert D. Atkinson of Springfield, Ill., Michael L. Atkinson of North Augusta, South Carolina, Michele M. Hobson of O’Fallon, Mo., and Christy R. Geno of Denver, Colorado; and five great-grandchildren, Seth E., Taylor E. and Brook M. Atkinson all of North Augusta, South Carolina, and Tony T. and Bradley A. Hobson both of O’Fallon, Mo..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Betty J. Geno; one son, Robert D. Atkinson; two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Atkinson worked for the Brown Shoe Company and also for the Florsheim Shoe Company in St. Louis, Mo. until her retirement.

Mrs. Maxine Atkinson (Copley)
Maxine Atkinson, age 76, of rural Roodhouse, died early Monday
morning, May 13, 2002 at her residence.
She was born June 14, 1925 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Fred and
Sadie Mellor Copley.
She married Ray Atkinson on Oct. 3, 1942 in Bowling Green , Missouri
and he survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Gordon (wife, June) Atkinson of
Marshfield, Missouri; James Atkinson of Eldred; John Atkinson of White
Hall and Tom (wife, Sue) Atkinson of Ames, Oklahoma; seven
grandchildren, one great granddaughter; one sister, Marjorie Kesinger of
Roodhouse and one brother, Ross Copley of Jacksonville. She was preceded
in death by four sisters, Eva VanCleve, Blanche Dawson, Freida Walker and
Fern Kesinger and three brothers, Gene, Carl and James Copley.
Mrs. Atkinson worked for eight years at the Roodhouse Elementary
School as a cook. She was a member of the White Hall First Baptist Church
and the Gleaners Sunday School class.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 15,
2002 at the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Memorials are suggested to
Boyd Hospital Home Health Care. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in

Patsy June Bushnell, 64, of White Hall died early Sunday morning Dec. 15, 2002 at her residence following a lengthy illness. born on May 1, 1938 in White Hall she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mae Cox DeShasier. On Jan. 31, 1957 she married Lee Bushnell and he preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1987. Surviving are 3 daughters: Dana Bushnell at home, Marcia (husband Don) Hardy of Roodhouse, Lisa (husband Kenny) Loy of White Hall, 7 grandchildren: Candi, Stacey, Ashley, and Derek Hardy, Laci Ford, Kaci Loy, a step grandson: Sean Castleberry, a great grandson: Jolyon Derek Waterfallen, 4 sisters: Nina DeShasier of Denver, Co., Edna Rochester of Virginia, Il., Darlene McAdams of Winchester, Harriett Lockhart of Jacksonville, 6 brothers: Bill DeShasier of Beckemeyer, John DeShasier of Casper, Wyo., Louie DeShasier of White Hall, Danny DeShasier of Alton, Tom DeShasier of Joplin, Mo., and Ed DeShasier of Griggsville. She was preceded in death by 2 sons: Rick and Pete Bushnell, 3 sisters: Betty Savage, Linda Stewart, Shirley DeShasier and 3 brothers: Gene, Donald and Michael DeShasier. Mrs. Bushnell had worked for 10 years at White Manufacturing (Bunn Corp.) in White Hall retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until service time at 11 A.M. on Wednesday at the Hillview Baptist Church in Hillview. Burial will follow in the White Hall Cemetery. Mary Baker, 91, of Carrollton died on Friday Oct. 11, 2002 at 5:15 A.M. at the home of her daughter Mary Davenport in Carrollton, where she had made her home for the past four years. born in Carrollton on Jan. 20, 1911 she was the daughter of the late John and Pearl Black Adcock. On March 31, 1928 she married Clyde Edward Baker in Carrollton and he preceded her in death on April 13, 1979. Surviving are 2 daughters: Mrs. Harry “Mary L.” Davenport of Carrollton, Mrs. Bill “Doris June” Kuntz of Jerseyville, a son: Eddie (wife Liz) Baker of Moberly, Mo. 4 grandchildren: Carolyn Ruyle, Allen (wife Linda) Davenport, Doug (wife Becky) Davenport, Dean Davenport, 4 great grandchildren: Tony, Jason, Mike, Amy, 3 great-great grandchildren, a sister Dorothy Custer of Carrollton and a brother Lawrence (wife Ruth) Adcock of Carrollton. She was preceded in death by 5 sisters: Opal King, Alma Miller, Lorraine Winters, Iva Laird, Margaret (an infant), and 3 brothers: Henry, Donald, and Frank Adcock. Mrs. Baker was a member of Believer’s Baptist Church, a past 4-H Club Leader and member of the old Columbiana Home Extension. Donna Sue Ballard, 48, of Carrollton died at 10:30 P.M. on Thursday Oct. 3, 2002 at her residence following a lengthy illness. born in Carrollton on March 4, 1954 she was the daughter of the late Vernie and Martha C. Wellhausen Ballard. She is survived by a very special friend Brian Cole of Green field, 2 brothers: Marvin (wife Carol) Ballard of Kilbourne, Ed (wife Marcia) Ballard of Shelbyville, nieces: Marvet of Springfield, Donna Mae of Kilbourne, Andrea of Casey, nephews: Randy of Kilbourne,Duane of Colorado Springs, Colo., Scott of Houston, Texas, special cousins: Larry and Bonnie Ballard and their children Lance and Kelsey. She was a bookkeeper for Cox & Huff Equipment Co. (now Sievers) of Green field. She was a member of the Carrollton BPW, Green e Co. Classic Iron Club, Women of the Moose, 4H leader for 20 years for Town and Country 4H Club, Green e Co. Extension Building Assoc. and Green e Co. Extension Council. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Sat. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home where services will be held on Sunday at 2 P.M. with burial in Carrollton City Cemetery. Mrs. Dora Lee Barrett (Hunter)
Dora Lee Barrett, 63, of Jacksonville died Saturday afternoon, May 4, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on September 1, 1938 in Alton the daughter of Charles W. and Edna Mae Sherfee Hunter. She married Donald J. Barrett on August 22, 1972 in Virginia and he survives.
She is also survived by six sons, Mike (wife, Vivian) Pickett and Wade (wife, Becky) Pickett, both of Cleveland, Texas, Landis Pickett of Lincoln, John (wife, Amie) Barrett of Arenzville, Donnie Barrett of Jacksonville, and Howard (wife, Heather) Barrett of Ashland; two daughters, June Pickett of Lincoln and Donna Kay Barrett of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, and three sisters, Mary (husband, Lynn) Sheff of Godfrey, June (husband, Jimmy) Splitoff of Poseyville, Indiana, and Hilda Hunter of Bethalto. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene Hunter, Jimmy Hunter, and Charles Hunter.
Mrs. Barrett was a homemaker and a dedicated mother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2002 at Arcadia Cemetery at Arcadia. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dora Lee Barrett Memorial Fund. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rose May Barton, 68, of Jacksonville died Saturday morning, April 20, 2002 at Skyview Terrace, Ltd. in Jacksonville. She was born on April 27, 1933 in rural Morgan County the daughter of Elmer and Nora Anna Allison Sparrow. She married Ellsworth Barton on October 21, 1950 in Jacksonville and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Terry (wife, Lillie) Barton and Larry (wife, Sherry) Barton, both of Jacksonville; three granddaughters, two great-granddaughters, two brothers, John (wife, Eileen) Sparrow of Jacksonville and Cornelius (wife, Virginia) Sparrow of Literberry; and one sister, Jean Brown of Jacksonville. Mrs. Barton was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Barton owned and operated Rose’s Poodle Salon in Jacksonville. She had also worked at J. Capps and Sons in Jacksonville. She was one of the first members of Pioneer Point Camping Club at Lake Jacksonville and was an avid bowler, being inducted into the Jacksonville Bowling Hall of Fame in 1998.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at East Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Morgan County Animal Shelter or the Salvation Army.
