Nellie Schofield Clothier (Eby)
Nellie Schofield Clothier, 90, of White Hall died on Friday Nov. 29, 2002 at 3:50 A.M. at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall. born in White Hall on Dec. 14, 1911 she was the daughter of the late William and Lucy Shaw Eby. She first married Claude Schofield on Sept. 15, 1926 and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1955. She later married James Clothier on Nov. 14, 1965 in Carrollton and he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1994. Surviving are 2 daughters Delta (husband Floyd) Phillips of Bethalto and Doris Cumby of Carrollton, 2 sons Darrell (wife Mary Jane) and Donald (wife Lorraine) Schofield both of Carrollton, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren . She was preceded in death by a son Delmer Schofield,3 brothers and 6 sisters. Nellie was a homemaker and for many years operated Nellie’s Garage Sale from her home. She loved collecting glassware and cookie jars. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Sunday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Monday at 10 A.M. with burial to follow in Carrollton City Cemetery . Memorials may be made to the Berdan Baptist Church.
Mr. Robert Clark Cochran
Robert Clark Cochran, age 73, of Roodhouse, died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 24, 2002 at his residence. He was born Nov. 28, 1929 in Ashland, the son of Clark and Anna Shafer Cochran. He married Lola Ann Merz on Sept. 25, 2002 in Roodhouse and she survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Teresa (husband, Michael) Osborne of Roodhouse, Pamela (husband, Larry) Charles of Meredosia and Michelle (husband, Robby) Manley of Roodhouse; several stepchildren, three from his recent marriage, Daphanie (husband, Angelos) Kappos of White Hall; James (wife, Carmen) Towne and Wanuita (husband Ed) Dawdy, both of Roodhouse and eight from a previous marriage; six grandchildren; twenty-three stepgrandchildren; and one brother, Verne L. Cochran of Jacksonville. Mr. Cochran worked as a carpenter for many years and for Jacksonville Fire Extinguisher until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 as a courier. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse. The family will meet friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with full military rites.
Mrs. Virginia M. Coffman (Young)
Virginia M. Coffman, 82, of Jacksonville died Sunday evening, February 10, 2002 at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. She was born on March 9, 1919 in Perry, the daughter of William F. and Martha Calhoun Young. She married George W. Coffman on November 4, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1999.
She is survived by two sons, Ken (wife, Shirley) Coffman and Ron (wife, Jeanne) Coffman, both of Chapin; two daughters, Joyce (husband, Tony) Crews and Beverly (husband, Joe) Buchanan, both of Chapin; none grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by on granddaughter and three brothers, William F. Young, Jr., Eugene Young and Paul Young (surviving wife, Mildred of Jacksonville).
Mrs. Coffman and her husband owned and operated George’s Furniture and Auction in Jacksonville for nearly 50 years. She was a member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church; Jacksonville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and a 50 year member of Women of the Moose.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Bringing Up Downs Syndrome
Mr. Kendall L. Coffman
Kendall L. Coffman, 51, of Jacksonville died Wednesday evening, January 30, 2002 at his residence. He was born on July 29, 1950 in Carrollton the son of Gene and Floy Nagle Coffman. He married Carolyn Ward on November 29, 1968 at Walkerville and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Kristen (husband, Nathan) Langellier and Amanda Coffman, both of Jacksonville; his parents of Roodhouse, one sister, Peggy (husband, Gale) Ford of Roodhouse, and one brother, Dale (wife, Angie) Coffman of White Hall.
Mr. Coffman was service manager at Stevens Implement in Petersburg, where he had been employed for the last 15 years. Prior to that, he had worked at Gordon Implement at Riggston and Gee Equipment in Jacksonville.
Mr. Coffman was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville where he had been a deacon and member of the Ambassador Quartet. He enjoyed singing, fishing, and was an accomplished woodworker.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the charity of choice.
Nellie Myrtle Coleman (Ross)
Nellie M. Coleman, 64, of Carrollton was pronounced dead at 7:30 A.M. on
Tuesday Jan. 8, 2002 at her residence.
Born near Carrollton on Feb. 11, 1937 she was the daughter of the late
George Ross Sr. and Airita Beck Kuhnline of Jacksonville.
She married Everett Coleman Sr. on Dec. 18, 1957 and he preceded her in
death in Sept. of 1975.
Surviving besides her mother are 4 daughters and 3 sons-in-law: Lydia
and Jeff Williams of Kentucky, Ginny and Jack Kennedy of Godfrey, Carrol
and Donald Farris of Roodhouse, and Tallauah Coleman-Todd of Green field,
4 sons and daughters-in-law: Everett and Sherrie Coleman of White Hall,
Charles and Michelle Coleman of Fla., Steven and Connie Coleman of White
Hall and James and Deanna Coleman of Green field, there are many
grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren surviving, 4 sisters: Nancy Braden,
Connie Williamson, Patricia Cotrel all of Jacksonville and Carol Gettings of
Jerseyville and a brother George Ross Jr. of Carrollton. Preceding her in
death were a sister Sara and a brother Ernie.
Nellie was a chrisitan woman who lover her family and will be sadly
missed.
Visitation will be from 3-7 P.M. on Thursday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton. Services will be on Friday at 10 A.M. at the
funeral home with burial to follow in the Carrollton City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Earl Lee Connelly
Earl Lee Connelly, 87, of Jacksonville died Wednesday evening, November 27, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born February 21, 1915 in Shelbyville, Illinois the son of Edgar and Mary Evans Connelly. He married Rose Ann Lewis in 1948 and they later divorced. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth (wife, Lorraine) Connelly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jim (wife, Diane) Connelly of Crystal Lake; one daughter, Sherry Darlene Six; 8 grandchildren, Brenda, Shavonne, Kelsie, Samantha, Ariel, Darlene, Eddie and Brian; 4 great-grandchildren and one sister, Erma Knippen of Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin Connelly and Wayne Connelly and one sister, Annie Krieg. Mr. Connelly had been a factory worker and a farm hand. He was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church where he had been active in his Sunday School Class. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Prairie Village Health Care Center. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Grace Evelyn Conrad (Metz)
Grace Evelyn Conrad, age 90, of the Timberpoint Healthcare Center in Camp Point, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died Tuesday evening (June 11, 2002) at the Healthcare Center.
She was born July 10, 1911 in Chambersburg, Ill. daughter of the late Charles and Eelen Aiken Metz.
She married Leslie R. Six on November 19, 1932 in Pittsfield, Ill. and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1968. She married Earl M. Sumner on September 16, 1960 in Brookfield, Mo. and he preceded her in death on December 8, 1977. She then married Warren Conrad on September 13, 1982 in Montgomery City, Mo. and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Carol Mettemeyer and husband James of Fowler, Ill., and Charlotte Musser of St. Peters, Mo.; two sons, Larry Six, and Roger Six and wife Sally all of Quincy, Ill.; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Miriam Downen of Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Charles “Jack” Metz and wife Norma of Meredosia, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Marianette Six; two sisters, Opal Metz, and Catherine Metz who died in infancy; and one brother, Robert Metz.
Mrs. Conrad was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and was a past employee of Trio Manufacturing in Griggsville, Ill. and was also employed as a nurse’s aide for Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill. She was a member of the Griggsville Church of the Nazarene in Griggsville, Ill. She enjoyed needlework and gardening.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday (June 15, 2002) at the Griggsville Church of the Nazarene in Griggsville, Ill. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the Griggsville Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. John Bernard Conrady
J. Bernard Conrady, 70, of Hettick, died Thursday, September 26, 2002 in Doctor’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born May 3, 1932, in Barr Twp, Macoupin County, Illinois, a son of John Bernard and Lena Rademaker Conrady. He married Deann E. McCoy on January 15, 1956 in Carlinville, IL and she survives. Also surviving are one son John Conrady of Palmyra; three daughters: Janet Conrady of Kankakee, IL, Carol Conrady of Litchfield, IL, Norma Conrady of Springfield, one brother: Marvin Frank (wife Beverly) Conrady of Palmyra, two sisters: Norma Jean Conrady of Palmyra, and Evelyn (husband Wayne) Boston of Jacksonville. He was a retired farmer, member of Palmyra Lions Club, American Legion Post # 1034 of Palmyra, IL. he was a former director of the Bank of Modesto, served on the Board of Directors of the Farm Bureau, and Macoupin Farm Service. He also was a salesman for DeKalb Seed Corn for thirty years. He was a member of Christ Luthern Church in Waverly, having been confirmed on September 21, 1947. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am Monday, September 30, 2002 in Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly, IL. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 pm Sunday, September 29, 2002 in Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, IL. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or Northwestern Rescue Squad.
Mrs. Emily Alma Cook (Means)
Emily Alma Cook, 84, of Jacksonville died Sunday morning, March 17, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on May 3, 1917 in Jacksonville the daughter of Marion and Elizabeth Bocking Means. She married James Ralph Cook on September 21, 1935 and he preceded her in death on October 6, 1987.
She is survived by three sons, Harold (wife, Garnet) Cook, Donald (wife, Patty) Cook, and Larry (wife, Pricilla) Cook, all of Jacksonville; one daughter, Patricia (husband, Richard) Andersen of Omaha, Nebraska; eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Cook; three brothers, Howard Means, Russell Means, and William Means; and one sister, Mary Lizenby.
Mrs. Cook had been a nursing supervisor at the Jacksonville State Hospital. She was a member of VFW Post 1379 Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, and the Church of Our Saviour.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Elza William Cooley
Elza William Cooley, age 83, of the Liberty Village in Pittsfield, Ill. and formerly of Fishhook, Ill. died Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 13, 2002) at the Village. He was born May 13, 1919 in Fishhook, Ill. son of the late Leone and Ella Jane Whitaker Cooley. He married Eileen Turnbeaugh on September 9, 1944 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, David Cooley and wife Theresa of Pittsfield, Ill. and Glen Cooley and wife Carol of Griggsville, Ill.; five grandchildren, Alysia Cooley of Champaign, Ill., Alan Cooley of Carbondale, Chandra Cooley of Griggsville, Ill., Jennifer Cooley and Mary Cooley both of Pittsfield, Ill.; a great-grandson, Max Howard of Pittsfield, Ill.; one brother, Leslie Cooley of Fishhook, Ill. and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Leola Smith; and two brothers, Melvin and Herbert Cooley. Mr. Cooley farmed in the Pittsfield area for many years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 17, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery near Fishhook, Ill. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. Robert O. Coon
Robert O. Coon, 84, a lifelong Scott County farmer, passed away Monday night (August 5, 2002) at his home in Winchester. He was born June 29, 1918 near Winchester, the son of the late Roy Sanford and Leila (Kelly) Coon. He married Geraldine Coultas November 25, 1939 in Winchester. She survives at home. They are the parents of 4 children Shirley Eddinger, Dick (Sandi) Coon, Reg (wife Peggy) Coon all of Winchester and Randy (wife Debbie) Coon of Coal Valley, IL; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Lucille Troutner of Pittsfield; and a brother Roy Coon Jr. of Pebble Beach, California; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Margaret Tatman. Mr. Coon attended Coon Island Grade School, and graduated from Winchester High School in 1936. He served on the Board of Commissioners of the Big Swan Drainage District for 40 years; he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Winchester National Bank for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Winchester United Methodist Church, Past Master of Masonic Lodge # 105, Springfield Consistory in Springfield, past member of Eastern Star and White Shrine, Scott County Farm Services Board and Farm Bureau. He helped start the Scott County 4-H and Jr. Fair and served as its first board secretary. Although he had been retired for many years, he was devoted to the land. His favorite activity was going to the farm to see the crops grow and then the subsequent harvest. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday (August 8, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday. Mr. Arthur Dale Cooper
Arthur “Dale” Cooper, age 69, of White Hall, died early Thursday
morning, July 4, 2002 at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
He was born May 23, 1933 in Roodhouse, the son of Beatrice Stauffer
Cooper.
He is survived by one sister, Nellie Palmer of Glasgow and two
brothers, Russell Eugene Cooper and William George Cooper, both of
Springfield.
Mr. Cooper worked at the Jerseyville Rehabilitation Center and at Elm
City in Jacksonville for many years. He was a member of the Roodhouse
Pentecostal Church.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002 at
the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in
White Hall is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rebecca Lee Copelin (Bettis)
Rebecca Lee Copelin, 43, of Waverly, Illinois, passed away at her home in Waverly, Wednesday, November 13, 2002. She was born March 20, 1959 in Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of George Kenneth and Idella June Duckwiler Bettis. She was a teachers aid in special education at Eisenhower School in Jacksonville. She worked as a school librarian at Lincoln School in Jacksonville for 7 years. She also worked part time at the Country Rose Floral Shop in Waverly. She is survived by her parents, 1 son, Brett David Copelin of Waverly; 1 daughter, Jody Marie McGee of Jacksonville; 2 brothers; Kenneth (Rosie) Bettis of Waverly; Roger (Alice) Bettis of Waverly; 2 sisters; Avalee McGee of Waverly; Charlotte Eyer of Waverly; and a special friend, H. Wayne Lowder of Franklin. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly. Family will meet friends from 5pm to 8pm, Friday, November 15, 2002 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly. Memorials are suggested to the family or New Hope Church.
Thomas Allen Copley
Thomas Allen Copley, 54, of Winchester passed away Monday afternoon (March 25, 2002) of natural causes at his home.
He was born September 19, 1947 in White Hall the son of Frederick Eugene Copley and Ada Sanders.
Mr. Copley is survived by his mother Ada Henderson of Jacksonville, his companion Linda Harris of Winchester, 5 children Christina (husband Patrick) Bell of Virginia, Travis (wife Cathy) Copley of Jacksonville, Teresa (husband Grover) Pruett of Meredosia, Shawna (husband Brian) Nolting of Jacksonville and Stacey (husband Bill) Gaines of Jacksonville, and 14 grandchildren. 2 sisters Norma (husband Charles) Newingham of New Berlin and Peggy Copley of Jacksonville, 3 brothers Edward Copley of Alexander, William (wife Judy) Copley of Jacksonville and Richard (wife Denise) Copley of Waupaca, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his father and a granddaughter.
Mr. Copley was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Winchester.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday (March 28, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 12:30 PM until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Evelyn Zelmer Cordum (Best)
Evelyn Zelmer Cordum, age 82, of Carlinville, Illinois, formerly of Palmyra, Illinois, died at 2:45am Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Carlinville Area Hospital. She was born February 28, 1920 in Farmersville, Illinois, the daughter of Paul Irving and Nona Olive Dawson Best. She married Harold Zelmer on March 15, 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri; he preceded her in death on June 4, 1971. She married Clarence Cordum on November 30, 1974, and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1990.
Mrs. Cordum was a homemaker and a member of the Palmyra United Methodist Church.
She is survived by 1 son, Donald (Linda) Zelmer of Marietta, Georgia; 2 daughters, Margie (Kenneth) Arnett of Hettick, Illinois; Linda (Donald) Stratton of Springfield, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Margaret Teitsworth of Allentown, Pennsylvania; 1 niece ,and I nephew.
Funeral Services will be at 11am, Thursday, March 14, 2002 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, Illinois. Family will receive friends from 9am until service time on Thursday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Palmyra United Methodist Church or the Northwest Rescue Squad.
Margene Cory (Scott)
Margene Cory, 85, of Taylorville formerly of Carrollton died at 1 A.M. on
Tuesday May 7, 2002 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Taylorville.
Born in Green field on June 12, 1916 she was the daughter of the late
George and Etta Bratten Scott.
On Sept. 7, 1946 she married Perry Cory in Kane and he preceded her in
death on April 27, 1990.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law: Eileen and David Andrews of
Taylorville, a grandson Scott Andrews of Stanford, Calif. She was preceded
in death by 5 brothers: Clarence, Russell, George, Carson and Harold Scott
and 3 sisters: Ethel Scott, Faye Dixon and Mary Cooksey.
Mrs. Cory was an accountant operating Cory Bookkeeping for many
years in Carrollton. She was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist
Church.
Visitation will be from 4-8 on Thursday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral
Home in Carrollton. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10 A.M. at the
Carrollton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Carrollton
City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Carrollton United Methodist
Church.
Mrs. Patricia Darlane Cottingham (Crowder)
Patricia Darlane Cottingham, 63, of Jacksonville, died Thursday morning, August 15, 2002 at her residence. She was born on August 20, 1938 in Jacksonville, the daughter of John and Myrtle A. Chaudoin Crowder. She married Norman Cottingham on July 12, 1968 at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and he survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Becky (husband, Scott) Patton of Jacksonville; one grandson; two brothers, Harold (wife, Bette) Crowder of Jacksonville and Clarence Crowder of Springfield, and one sister, JoAnn (husband, Joe) Dorris of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Monty Edward Crowder Mrs. Cottingham was a housekeeping supervisor at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, retiring in January of 2001 after over 25 years of employment. Prior to that, she had been a seamstress at J. Capps and Sons. She was a founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, where she was very active as a deaf interpreter, member of the altar guild, and a past-president and longtime member of A.A.L. She had bowled in the Friday night league at the Bowl Inn, enjoyed cooking, and had an exceptional talent for arts and crafts. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery.
