Mr. Norbert G. Eilering
Norbert G. Eilering, 77, of Jacksonville died Saturday morning, June 22, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on September 28, 1924 in Damiansville, the son of Gerhard George and Anna Haar Eilering. He married Shirley Jean Daniel on February 8, 1947 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on February 26, 1995.
He is survived by four daughters, Deborah (husband, David) Johnson of Springfield, Diane (husband, Gary) Schone of Chapin, Gail (husband, Mark) Petras of Barrington, and Barbara (husband, Norman) Strang of Winchester; two sons, John (wife, Carolyn) Eilering and Joe (wife, Linda) Eilering, both of Jacksonville; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence H. Eilering of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Kaufman, Marie Eilering, and Lillian Fox, (surviving husband Sam of Jacksonville); and two brothers, George Eilering and Melvin Eilering (surviving wife Katherine of Jacksonville.)
Mr. Eilering retired from the United States Post Office in Jacksonville, after 37 years of service. He was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a longtime member of the Church of Our Saviour. He was involved in youth baseball in Jacksonville for many years with the Little League and Pony/Colt League. He had been a Cub Master and was a Routt Booster. He led the Our Saviour Booster Club for many years. He was an avid Cubs fan. Mr. Eilering was a life member of the Knights of Columbus in Jacksonville, and held memberships in the Jacksonville Moose, Elks, Golden K Kiwanis, and American Legion.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends following a 4:30 p.m. prayer service, until 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Our Saviour Grade School Parents Club or Passavant Area Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Genevieve "Ginny" Elliott (Hopper)
Genevieve Elliott, 78, of Hillview died on Tuesday July 16, 2002 at White
Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
Born on March 11, 1924 in Athensville she was the daughter of the late
Fred and Mildred Williams Hopper. She married Howard A. Elliott Sr. on
March 12, 1942 in Bowling Green , Mo. and he preceded her in death on
Nov. 8, 1990.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Mrs. Raymond “Lou” Darringer of
Roodhouse, Mrs. Mike “Debbie” Pritchett of Roodhouse, Mrs. Steve
“Stephanie” Hazelwood of Carrollton and Mrs. Henry “Karen” Strong of
Missouri, 2 sons: Mike (wife Peggy) Elliott of Missouri and Richard Elliott
of Missouri, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Five brothers and 3
sisters also survive.
She was preceded in death by a son Howard Elliott Jr. , 2 grand children
and 2 great granchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
She was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church and worked for the
Columbiana Seed Co. for many years. There will be no visitation. Graveside
rites will be held of Friday at 2 P.M. at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson
where the family will meet friends.
Mr. C.M. "Eric" Erickson
C.M. “Eric” Erickson, 82, of Jacksonville, died Sunday evening, October 6, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on December 9, 1919 in Dawson, Minnesota, the son of Lorence and Anna Welsch Erickson. He married Mildred Rollen in March of 1950 and she preceded him in death in October of 1978. He married Patsy D. Crabtree on May 18, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Sharry (husband, Al) Slaughter of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Erickson was a salesman for many years, working for General Mills, General Electric, and General Telephone, before retiring in 1980. He was a member and past-president of Golden”K” Kiwanis, and a member of the Tri-County Woodworkers. He attended First Christian Church in Jacksonville and was a member of Unity Church in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Erickson loved woodworking and fishing. Mr. Erickson served in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Captain. He served in Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, and Central Europe, and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mr. James Coleman Essex
James Coleman Essex, 84, of Jacksonville died Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on October 2, 1917 in Chicago the son of Asa and Nora Bayless Essex. He married Ida Mae Suttles on November 2, 1941 in Bowling Green , Missouri and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Bob (wife, Betty) Essex of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Linda (husband, Edward) Turner of Ashland; three grandchildren, Nicholas Turner of Springfield, Lora Albanese of Rochester, and Carrie Anne Essex of Phoenix; and two great-grandchildren, Ian Edward Turner and Laurene Nichole Turner, both of Springfield. He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Robert.
Mr. Essex owned and operated Essex Radio and TV, beginning in the early 1950’s. It was the first repair business of its kind in the Jacksonville area. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Essex was a member of Central Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 12 Noon on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Patricia Lynn Evans
Patricia Lynn “Pat” Evans, 52, of Winchester passed away early Sunday morning (February 3, 2002) at her home.
She was born August 15, 1949 in Winchester the daughter of Raymond M. and Ellen Marcella Turner Evans.
She married James E. “Cork” Lemons July 4, 1970 in Winchester.
She was a 1967 graduate of Winchester High School. She had worked for 19 years at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville and also worked for Kendall Accountants in Pittsfield. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Winchester. She loved to bowl, play cards and she enjoyed watching her sons in sports.
Surviving are her 2 sons Robert E. Lemons of Hillsboro and Seth E. Lemons of Joliet, 3 sisters Marcella Coats of Eugene, Oregon, Marilyn (husband James) Dolen of Winchester, and Connie (husband Kenny) Hubbard of Nebo, 2 brothers Bruce (wife Charlotte) Evans of Jacksonville and Gordon M. Evans of Winchester. Also 2 aunts, 1 uncle and many nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday (February 7, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Theodore Evans
Theodore “Ted” Evans, 83, of Winchester passed away early Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 17, 2002) at his home. He was born September 3, 1919, in Scott County the son of the late Jackson L. and Eva M. Evans. He married Eleanor Little on July 29, 1937 in Bowling Green , Missouri. She survives at home. Also surviving is a son Gary L. (wife Debra) Evans, daughters Bonnie Smith and Wanda (husband Harold) Pence all of Winchester. 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, 4 brothers, Russell, Chester, Oscar, and Warren Dean Evans, and 2 sisters, Isabell Price and Marie Campbell. Mr. Evans farmed in Scott County all his life. He was a member of the Southern Baptist faith, having been saved in a revival November 1, 1942, at the Sandridge Baptist Church. He answered a call to the Ministry of the Gospel and was ordained by the Sandy Creek Baptist Association on Dec. 20, 1953. He pastored at Grace Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church in Winchester, and also preached at various times in many of the churches in Sandy Creek Association. He was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau. He served on the Country School Board for several years, and in his younger years sang with a quartet in the area. He attended Sandridge country school and Winchester High School. He enjoyed hunting and watching hunting dogs work, he also raised watermelons, and hosted a family-fishing tournament every year. He loved his family vacations in the Ozarks. He loved the land, his farm, and most of all his family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday (Dec. 21, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Winchester EMS.
Ada Belle Evans (Riley)
Ada Belle Evans, 90, of Hopedale, passed away early Wednesday morning (March 27, 2002) at the Hopedale Medical Complex.
She was born May 9, 1911 in Timewell the daughter of William and Sara Franklin Riley.
She married Merle Evans March 9, 1930 in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death October 4, 1987.
Also preceding her was a daughter Beverly Davis, a son Manford Evans, and 4 sisters.
Mrs. Evans attended Perry Schools, She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include 4 daughters Delores Smock of Manito, Wanda Hurst of White Hall, Shirley (husband Jim) Sharp of Stanford, and Jeanette Hawkins of Delavan, 3 sons Kenneth (wife Tonya) Evans of Forrest City, Gary (wife Leann) Evans and Roger (wife Kathy) Evans both of Morton. 27 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and a brother Kenneth Riley also survive.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday (March 29, 2002) at the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:00 am until service time at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.

Ethel Lucille Evans (Rider)
Ethel L. Evans, 81 of Winchester passed away Wednesday morning (June 26, 2002) at the rural Green field home of her daughter.
She was born December 14, 1920 near Winchester the daughter of the late Lester and Hattie Tyler Rider.
She married Joseph D. Evans February 7, 1938 in Bowling Green , Missouri.
Mrs. Evans attended school in Scott County. She loved to sew, and was an accomplished Seamstress; she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in White Hall where her husband pastored.
Survivors include her husband Joseph Evans at home, 3 daughters Hazel (husband Ronald) Settles of rural Green field, Norma (husband Myron) Rexroad of Green field, Ruth Ann (husband Luis) Riveiro of Orlando, Florida, and a son Lloyd (wife Judy) Evans of Winchester, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters. Also surviving are 2 sisters Pearl Pratt of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Reba (husband Dean) Hester of Glasgow, 2 brothers Lester Rider of Deming, New Mexico and Clifford (wife Marge) Rider of Glasgow.
Preceding her in death were her parents, 2 sisters Gladys Anderson and Doris Rider, and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday (June 29, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Harold Faul
Harold E. Faul, 77, of Carrollton died at 12:40 A.M. on Thursday March 21,
2002 at the Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
Born in Good Hope, Il. on June 26, 1924 he was the son of the late John
H. and Effie L. Markham Faul.
On June 2, 1946 he married the former Annetta Ruhl in LaHarpe, Il. and
she survives. Also surviving are: 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Jeff and
Bernadette Faul of Carrollton and Randy and Cindy Faul of Carthage.
4 grandsons: Erik Faul of Carthage, Shaun Faul of Dallas City, Jamie Faul of
Carrollton and Jesse Faul of Carrollton, 1 greatgrandson: Caleb Faul of
Dallas City, a brother Charles Faul of Dallas City and a sister Jean Hopkins
of Raymore, Mo. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Cathryn Immel,
Fran Yentes, Helen McKay and 3 brothers: Herbert, Gerald and Ted Faul.
Mr. Faul was a jeweler for 50 years including owning at one time or
another stores in Roodhouse, Carthage, Dallas City and Hamilton. He was a
World War II Navy veteran.
Cremation rites were accorded and a private memorial service was held

Mr. Henry E. Finch
Henry E. Finch, 83, of Jacksonville died Thursday morning, March 7, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on May 1, 1918 at rural Murrayville the son of Otto and Johannah Whalen Finch. He married Leila R. Russel on September 29, 1947 in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on July 10, 1995.
He is survived by one half-sister, Ruth Finch of Jacksonville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Johanna Finch in 1955; two brothers, Charles W. Finch and John “Dick” Finch; and four sisters, Sarah E. Finch, Anna L. Finch, Mary E. Finch, and Mildred Pierce.
Mr. Finch was an agent for Standard Oil for 18 years, hauling fuel to local farmers and operating the bulk plant in Jacksonville. He was also employed with the State of Illinois Drivers License Facility in Jacksonville. Mr. Finch served in the United States Army, Hospital Division, during World War II, and was a member of the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2002 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Elsie Mae Flowers (Langer)
Elsie Mae Flowers, 74, of Carrollton died at 2:17 A.M. on Wed. Feb. 13,
2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Born near Carrollton on July 14, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Joe
and Eunice Walter Langer.
On June 14, 1945 she married James F. “Red” Flowers in Carrollton and
he preceded her in death on April 29, 1980. Surviving are: a daughter and
son-in-law: Judy and Dale Goewey of Summer Hill and a son and
daughter-in-law: James and Ruth Ann Flowers Jr. of Carrollton, 6
grandchildren: Pam, Andrea, Rodney, Bradley, Nicholas and James, 6 step
grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 sisters: Florence Mehrhoff of
Carrollton, Mary Dotson of Silver Springs, Fla., Bertha Guthrie of Jerseyville
and 2 brothers Joseph F. Langer of Carrollton and Bob Langer of Silver
Springs, Fla.. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Mildred Ritchey and
Hilda Jane Vinyard and a brother Lester Langer.
Elsie was a longtime member of the Carrollton First Baptist Church,
serving as church treasurer of many years and was an active member of the
Womens Missions Society and 50/50 Sunday School class. She had worked
in the Green e Co. Assesor’s Office and later at Country Comapnies
Insurance. She also was a hard working farmer’s wife. She loved cooking,
her flowers and crafts. She loved following her grandchildren’s sporting
events. She was a member of the Couples Birthday Club.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral
Home in Carrollton. Services will be held on Saturday at 10 A.M. at the First
Baptist Church in Carrollton. Burial will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Donald A. Flynn
Donald A. Flynn, 78, of Jacksonville and formerly of Merrillville, IN, died Monday, September 16, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on April 2, 1924 in Jacksonville the son of Thomas J. and Catharyn McGuire Flynn. He married Ruth Johnson in Merrillville, IN, and she preceded him in death. He is survived by four brothers, Paul (wife, Mildred) Flynn of Havana, Edmund P. Flynn of Arkansas, Thomas (wife, Donna) Flynn of Jerseyville, and Leo (wife, Linda) Flynn of Jacksonville; three sisters, Ann Rogers of Jacksonville, Agnes (husband, Gerald) Flynn of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, and Eleanor (husband, Charles) Cox of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Rosemary Ferry, and two brothers, Alfred Flynn and Martin Flynn. Mr. Flynn was a longtime employee of U.S. Steel Corporation in Gary, Indiana. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2002, at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. Mrs. Lucille Ford (Shafer)
Lucille Ford, age 82, of Jacksonville, formerly of Hillview, died early Thursday morning, June 13, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born Jan. 10, 1920 in Philadelphia, Illinois, the daughter of Leslie and Nellie Pearl Harding Shafer. She married Wilson “Jack” Ford on Sept. 23, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1997. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Lou (husband, Harold) Reed of Victoria, Texas; Sandra (husband, Ronald) Moore of Alsey and Janis Ford of Jacksonville; four sons, Kenneth (wife, Jane Ann) Ford of Winchester; Wilson E. (wife, Donna) Ford of Henry; John Ford of Hillview and Richard Lynn (wife, Beth) Ford of Rushville; twenty-three grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; five brothers, Sterling Shafer, Joyce Shafer and James Shafer, all of Winchester; Robert Shafer of Virginia and Ralph Shafer of Jacksonville; and three sisters, Nellie Kunzeman of Carrollton, Mary Smith of Glasgow and Leona Meyer of Hillview. She was preceded in death by two sons, Curtis Leslie and Ronald Dale Ford and two sisters, Ruth Shafer and Lillian Hamilton. Mrs. Ford was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at the Hillview Baptist Church in Hillview with burial at the White Hall Cemetery. Mrs. Mildred Myrtle Fox (Dengler)
Mildred Myrtle Fox, 71, of Jacksonville, died Saturday morning, November 30, 2002, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville. She was born on April 19, 1931 in Hoopston, the daughter of Marion and Cecile Dengler. She married Thomas F. Fox in June of 1957 in Lincoln and he preceded her in death in May of 1984. She is survived by two sons, Terry (wife, Dianna) Fox and Tom (wife, Gretchen) Fox, both of Jacksonville; three grandsons, one brother, Marion (wife, Shirley) Dengler of Lincoln; one sister, Doris (husband, Jack) Foster of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Nancy Ann; two infant grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Dengler. Mrs. Fox had been a switchboard operator for General Telephone in Lincoln before moving to Jacksonville in 1962. She worked at Hertzberg-New Method Book Bindery from 1975 until her retirement. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2002, at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Hebron Cemetery, northeast of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Community Counseling or Hebron Cemetery.
