Mrs. Thelma Ginder (Charlesworth)
Thelma Charlesworth Ginder, 88, of rural Arenzville died Monday morning, May 13, 2002 at Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville. She was born on December 19, 1913 in the Cracker’s Bend neighborhood the daughter of Joseph Edward and Margaret Alice Vallery Charlesworth. She married Paul Everett Ginder on August 1, 1936 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on February 17, 1989.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret (husband, Stanley) Weiss of Arenzville and Lucille (husband, Daryll) Purvis of Cocoa, Florida; five grandchildren, Brad and Brian Johnston of South Carolina, Sheri (Weiss) McLennan of Marshall, Jeffrey C. Weiss of rural Arenzville and Gregory S. (wife, Jean) Weiss of Glen Carbon; eight great-grandchildren, and five half-sisters, Peggy Badgley of Cobina, California, Ruby Jean Burnham of Issaquah, Washington, Nancy Charlesworth of San Dimas, California, Mary Charlesworth of Sun City, Arizona, and Iris Cleland of Lakeside, California. She was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Edward “Kickie” Charlesworth, (surviving wife Norma of Arenzville), and one half-brother, Gerald Edward Charlesworth.
Mrs. Ginder and her husband Paul farmed in the Cracker’s Bend neighborhood, where she lived her entire life. She loved to read and knit afghans.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Concord Cemetery at Concord. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Arenzville Village Library or the donor’s choice.

Mr. Wayne I. Ginder
Wayne I. “Hank” Ginder, 83, of Jacksonville, died Sunday evening, January 20, 2002 at NBA Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. He was born on October 25, 1918 near Arcadia, the son of John C. and Clara Goodpasture Ginder. He married Ruth M. Petefish on February 28, 1946 at Literberry and she preceded him in death on November 7, 1998.
He is survived by two sons, Gary (wife, Joyce) Ginder and Marc (wife, Barb) Ginder, both of Jacksonville; two daughters, Sue Ginder of Glendale, Missouri and Sara (husband, Bill) Sumpter of Webster Grove, Missouri; four grandsons, one step-grandson; four brothers, Alvin (wife, Gladys) Ginder, Clyde Ginder, Lloyd (wife, Beulah) Ginder, and Dale (wife, Linda) Ginder; five sisters, Blanche Henderson, Ruth (husband, Elmer) Reichert, Helen (husband, Leo) Finn, Marie (husband, Richard) Hembrough, and Mildred Lewis; and one sister-in-law, Thelma Ginder. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Ginder and Ralph Ginder.
Mr. Ginder was a life-long farmer in the Jacksonville area. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and served as a director for the Pisgah Coop and Orleans Farmers’ elevators. He was also a member of the ASCS County Committee and a long time member of the Morgan County Fair Association and past-president of the fair board.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Arcadia Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Alta Charlene Gobbel (Sly)
Alta Charlene Gobbel, 78, of Ursa and formerly of Jacksonville; died Wednesday evening, October 16, 2002 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was born on June 7, 1924 in Hillview, the daughter of Charles Thomas and Maude White Sly. She married Adolphus Abraham Wigington on September 1, 1946 in Nebo and he preceded her in death on November 15, 1965. She later married Richard W. “Dick” Gobbel on October 17, 1974 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on September 24, 1979. She is survived by three daughters, Gertrude Ann Archer of Gainesville, Florida; Beulah (husband, John) Bates of Ursa, and Carol (husband, Rodney) Cannell of Quincy; one son, Larry (wife, Sandy) Wigington of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Wendall Gobbel of Meredosia and Benjamin Gobbel; and two step-grandchildren. Mrs. Gobbel worked in housekeeping at Passavant Hospital for 21 years. Before that, she had been employed as a nurse’s aide at local nursing homes. She was a member of the Jacksonville Church of Christ and enjoyed flowers and puzzles. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends after 11 a.m. on Saturday, until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Pauline Hembrough Goheen
Pauline Hembrough Goheen, 84, of South Jacksonville, died Friday afternoon, November 1, 2002, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on July 29, 1918 near Pisgah, the daughter of Earl Raymond and Emma Henry Hembrough. She married Robert H. Goheen on November 1, 1936 in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death in 1980. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth (husband, Roger) McClintock of South Jacksonville, and Velma (husband, Roger) Finnern of Tempe, Arizona; one son, Richard (wife, Patricia) Goheen of Benton, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Dr. R.S. McClintock, Susan McClintock, Rev. Robb McClintock, Sarah Angleton, Dr. Christopher Goheen, Angela Thennes, Jake Goheen, Michael Finnern, and Geoffrey Finnern; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Thomas Robert Goheen. Mrs. Goheen was a longtime educator, teaching fourth grade and high school mathematics at O’Fallon. She was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended MacMurray College for two years. She later returned to MacMurray and received her bachelor’s degree in 1963. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, DAR, and the YMCA. She especially enjoyed her family and friends; and needlecraft, traveling, and reading. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Asbury Cemetery. The family will meet friends from noon until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Asbury United Methodist Church.

Mr. Richard V. Goldman
Richard V. Goldman, age 55, of Carrollton, died Sunday evening, Oct. 20, 2002 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. He was born June 24, 1947 in Hayward, California, the son of Estel Lee and Jewel Yates Goldman. He is survived by his dearest friends, Jack Wilkinson and Neil Presley, both of Carrollton; his mother, Jewel Yates Hendrickson of San Lorenzo, California; one sister, Patty Hudson of Elkwood, California; five brothers, Sam Goldman of Denver, Colorado; Bud Goldman of Newton, Massachusetts; Lennie Goldman of Massachusetts; Edward Lee Goldman of San Lorenzo, California and Bill Goldman of Concord, Colorado. Mr. Goldman was a longtime manager of the Kampsville Inn and also was an owner of the Kampsville Inn for several years. He was of the Baptist faith. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Cremation rites will follow. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Ms. Frances L. Goodall
Frances L. Goodall, 84, of Jacksonville died early Thursday morning, April 25, 2002 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home at Carlinville. She was born on August 17, 1917 in Jacksonville the daughter of James Everett and Hazel Reecie Mapes Goodall.
Ms. Goodall is the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd M. Goodall and George E. Goodall.
Ms. Goodall worked as a secretary and notary at several area businesses over the years. She attended Brown’s Business College and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed flowers and caring for her cats.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Cleo Mardell Gotschall (Warcup)
Cleo Mardell Gotschall, 71, of South Jacksonville, died Tuesday morning, October 15, 2002 at her residence. She was born on December 27, 1930 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Clyde and Irma Walker Warcup. She married John Sherman Gotschall on August 18, 1951 in Jacksonville and he survives. She is also survived by two sons, John Olen (wife, Marilyn K.) Gotschall of Bluffs and Jordy Zane (wife, Carolyn M.) Gotschall of South Jacksonville; one daughter JoDell (husband, Charles) Paul of South Jacksonville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-granchild; and one sister, Gloria (husband, Donald G.) Johnson of Niceville, Florida. She was preceded in death by one sister, Alvadeen Doty. Mrs. Gotschall helped her family with the operation of Village Cyclery in South Jacksonville for many years. Earlier in life, Mrs. Gotschall had worked as a seamstress at J. Capps and Sons and later held a civilian position at the U.S. Military Base at White Sands, New Mexico. A very active and longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Mrs. Gotschall was past-president of United Methodist Women, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Mary Martha Circle. She had been a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2002 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church or the South Jacksonville Rescue Squad. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Aretha (Pearl) Gotschall (Evans)
Aretha (Pearl) Gotschall, 98, of South Jacksonville died Monday evening, January 14, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born January 20, 1903 near Vienna, Johnson County the daughter of Wilbert Sherman and Christina Farmer Evans. She married Olen W. Gotschall on May 14, 1927 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1976.
She is survived by one son, John Sherman (wife, Cleo Mardell) Gotschall of South Jacksonville; three grandchildren, John Olen (wife, Marilyn K.) Gotschall of Bluffs, Jordy Zane (wife, Carolyn M.) Gotschall of South Jacksonville and JoDell (husband, Charles) Paul of South Jacksonville; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; and one sister, Golda Dunn of Lexington, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Neil Evans, Kenneth Evans, John Ozzo Evans, and Thomas Oral Evans.
Mrs. Gotschall was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville for 65 years; served as past-President of the Women’s U.M.W. (W.S.C.S.) and was active in all of the church activities for many years. Mrs. Gotschall was past-Noble Grand of Caritas Rebekah Lodge #625 and a member of Past-Noble Grand Club #625.
Mrs. Gotschall loved gardening, flowers, and working in her yard. She was so much a part of her family’s lives. She will be missed terribly.
Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to South Jacksonville Rescue Squad or Centenary United Methodist Church Building Fund. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Chester Gourley
Chester Gourley, 84, of Carrollton died at 4:50 A.M. on Tuesday July 23,
2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Born on Dec. 12, 1917 near Bee Creek in Calhoun Co. he was the son of
the late Thomas and Leeta Ottwell Gourley.
He married the former Doris V. Fundel in Manchester on February 25,
1939 and she survives. Also surviving are: 2 daughters and sons-in-law:
Connie and Dr. Vincent Gamba of Toms River, N.J., Karen and D.Brian
Aldrich of St. Louis, Mo., 3 sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Diane
Gourley of Carrollton, Gene and Jeannette Gourley of Danville, Jim and
Candie Gourley of Carrollton, 10 grand and 5 great-grandchildren, a sister
Veda George of White Hall and a brother Leland Gourley of Glasgow.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Everett, Arnold and Lloyd Gourley
and 2 sisters: Freeda Whited and Mary Norton and 2 grandchildren : Paul and
Paula Aldrich (twins).
Mr. Gourley was a lifelong farmer, a member of the Carrollton
Presbyterian Church and was a member of the church Elders and Trustees
Board. He was a devoted husband and father, an avid sports fan (rarely did
he miss any of his childrens games), and an ardent St. Louis Cardinals Fan.
Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Thursday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral services will be held at the Carrollton
Presbyterian Church at 10 A.M. on Friday with burial to follow in the
Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials are mentioned to the church or the
American Heart Assn.

Mr. Leland P. Gourley
Leland P. Gourley, age 71, of Winchester, Ill. died 8:28 p.m. Sunday (August 11, 2002) at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill.. He was born July 24, 1931 in Montezuma Township Pike County, Ill. son of the late Thomas and Leta Ottwell Gourley. He married Dorothy Jean Bartlett on June 21, 1952 in Pocahannis, Ark. and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Debra McLeese of Jacksonville, Ill., Donna Hurt and husband Bobby of Glasgow, Ill., and Paula Holmes and husband Larry of Glasgow, Ill.; one son, Robyn Gourley and companion Debbie Dixon of Manchester, Ill.; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Veda George and husband Buell of White Hall, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Norton and Freda Whited; three brothers, Everett Gourley, Lloyd Gourley, Arnold Gourley, and Chester Gourley. Mr. Gourley was a carpenter for many years working for John Chumley in White Hall, Ill. before becoming self-employed in 1966. He retired in 1990. He was a member of the Glasgow and Patterson Saddle Clubs and loved his horses and enjoyed trail riding. He loved his family and enjoyed having company. He also loved to square dance and was a past member of the Scott County Square N Aders. He was an avid Cardinal Fan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (August 14, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester, Ill. with Ray Hacker officiating. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow Ill.. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 5-8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to Scott County EMS.

Mr. Edward "Jummie" Graham
Edward “Jummie” Graham, age 86, of Pittsfield, Ill. died late Wednesday afternoon (November 27, 2002) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill. He was born August 13, 1916 in Time, Ill. son of the late Herbert E. and Gertrude M. Pettit Graham. He married Elizabeth May “Betty” Hall on January 26, 1946 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Vickie Daley and husband Alan of Springfield, Ill., and Brenda Capps and husband Ken of Beardstown, Ill.; five grandchildren, Bridgette Kolias and husband Nick of Seattle, Washington, Jason Daley of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Thom Capps of Chicago, Ill., Travis Capps of Mattoon, Ill., Tyler Capps of Bloomington, Ill.; one brother, Wally Graham and wife Bernice of Carthage, lll.; one sister, Wanda Hobson of Griggsville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl Graham, Carl Graham; and one sister, Leota Goldman. Mr. Graham attended Milton High School in Milton, Ill.. He was a W.W. II veteran serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theater. Following the war he farmed south of Time, Ill. and near Detroit, Ill. until 1951, at which point he became joint owner of the Mobil Service Station in Pittsfield, Ill.. In 1960 he became employed by Pittsfield FS until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Pittsfield Assembly of God Church where he was secretary/treasurer for 35 years. He also taught Sunday school at the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill.. He loved to garden and enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed sports and watching his grandchildren in their various sports. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday (December 1, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Quentin Beard officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the Pittsfield Assembly of God Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Mary Ann Graves King (Griffin)
Mary Ann Graves King, 64, of Palmyra, Illinois passed away November 14, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She was born May 17, 1938 in Nashville, Indiana, the daughter of Morris and Viola Mae Hardin Griffin. She was a printer at Capital Records for many years. She is survived by 3 sons; Bobby (Jill) Graves of Springfield, Illinois; William “Bulger” Graves of Palmyra, Illinois; Roy (Michelle) Graves of Thayer, Illinois; 3 daughters; Brynn (Bryan) Taylor of Chatham, Illinois; Cindy (Mark) Edlin of Cooperstown, Illinois; Angie Woods of Berlin, Illinois; 18 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson. She was preceded in death by her mother; 1 son; James Graves; and 2 sisters; Laura Kay Griffin and Betty Lou Stewart. Family will meet friends from 2pm tp 4pm on Saturday, November 16, 2002, at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, Illinois. Cremation will be at a later dat. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Paul E. Gray
Paul E. Gray, age 68, of Roodhouse, died Saturday morning, Jan. 12,
2002 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 25, 1933 in New Canton, the son of Commodore
and Elizabeth DeJaynes Gray.
He married Mary I. McNulty on Jan. 7, 1959 in Pittsfield and she
survives.
He is also survived by five sons, Paul David Gray, John Gray,
Michael Gray, Douglas Gray and James Gray, all of Roodhouse; two
daughters, Mary Sue Petty of Augusta, Georgia and Jackque Bick of
Roodhouse; sixteen grandchildren; and two sisters, Lillian Williams of
Stephenville, Missouri and Roberta Brown of Hannibal. He was preceded
in death by three grandchildren; one brother and one sister.
Mr. Gray served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He
worked for farmers in the area for many years. He was a member of the
White Hall Sportsmans Club.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002 at
the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Hillview
Baptist Church.

Mr. Charles Sheldon "Shelly" Green e
Charles Sheldon “Shelly” Green e, age 91, of White Hall, died early Monday morning, Sept. 2, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born July 18, 1911 in Hornell, New York, the son of Albert and Myra Allen Green e of Hornell. His wife, Hazel Storm Corsa Green e of White Hall, preceded him in death on Aug. 31, 1995. He is survived by three sons, Charles Sheldon Green e, Jr. (wife, Lindsay) of Meerbusch, Germany, Stuart C. (wife, Nancy) Green e of Auburn, Maine and Peter S. (companion, Rita “Dede” Wilkinson) of Evanston; eight grandchildren, Charles S., III (wife, Jenna); Lee, Robin, Katherine, Megan, Matthew, Andrew and James; and two great grandchildren, Spencer and Julia. He was preceded in death by one son, Allen L. on Aug. 11, 1989. Mr. Green e began his career in New York City, where he was employed at Macy’s Department Store as an assistant buyer. He and his wife were married on Sept. 18, 1937 in White Hall and then resided in New York City. They returned to White Hall in 1938, following the death of his father-in-law, Dean Corsa, who founded the Gregory Laboratory in 1913. Mr. Green e became owner of the business and managed it for 25 years. In 1954 Mr. Green e established a related business, Affiliated Laboratories, now Pfizer, which was owned by four producers of veterinary biologics, including the Gregory Laboratory. He also was president of Associated Serum Producers, a national trade association, and was appointed to the National Committee on Hog Cholera Eradication by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In addition, he served on the White Hall School Board during the district’s consolidation, and as president of both the White Hall Lions Club and the original White Hall Hospital Board. He also was a trustee and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of White Hall, where he was active until his death. In 1971, Mr. and Mrs. Green e founded Storm, a business in White Hall that specialized in hand-crafted quilts and other items made by local women, as well as women’s clothing. The company included a store and restaurant and later expanded to another shop, The Place Next Door, which sold crafts from European countries. They ran the business until 1979. Mr. Green e loved popular music, especially singers and “Big Bands” of the 1930s and 1940s, and he shared that appreciation with his family. He and his wife enjoyed dancing to music of that era. He also continued to host annual gatherings each Christmas and summer for the members of his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church of White Hall, with Rev. Gerald Boutelle officiating. Burial will be in the White Hall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the White Hall Township Library.

Mrs. Nelda U. Green wood (Bradshaw)
Nelda U. Green wood, 77, of Jacksonville died Friday morning, February 15, 2002 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield. She was born January 31, 1925 near Chandlerville the daughter of Harry David and Susanna Lynch Bradshaw. She married Charles Green wood and he preceded her in death. She later married Howard Turner on June 11, 1963 in St. Louis, Mo and he preceded her in death on November 4, 1980.
She is survived by one sister, Carmeleta Foster of Macomb; two nephews; three nieces; several great nieces and nephews and two step-daughters. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Franklin Bradshaw.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2002 at Hebron Cemetery , northeast of Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Rebecca Josephine Griffin (Peterson)
Rebecca Josephine Peterson Griffin, 26, of St. Louis, Mo and formerly of Alexander died Thursday, August 8, 2002 at St. Louis University Hospital as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born August 16, 1975 in Jacksonville the daughter of John M. and Mary M. McDannald Peterson. She married James Robert Griffin, Jr. on January 4, 2002 and he survives. She is also survived by her father and mother of Alexander; four brothers, James Michael (wife, Rachel) Peterson of Quincy, William Edward (wife, Dawn) Peterson of Alamogordo, NM, Robert Andrew Peterson of Springfield and Benjamin Nicholas Peterson of Alexander; three sisters, Angela Marie Dowd of Springfield, Sarah Elizabeth Peterson of St. Louis, Mo and Emily Theresa Peterson of Alexander; one step-son, James Robert Griffin III of St. Louis, Mo; one step-daughter, Valerie Claire Griffin of St. Louis, Mo; maternal grandparents, H.L. “Bud” and Ruth McDannald of Franklin; paternal grandmother, Josephine Theresa Peterson of Waverly; 4 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mrs. Griffin was a 1993 graduate of Routt High School, and a 1997 graduate of Quincy University. During college she did social service work in St. Louis, Chicago, Mississippi, Bronx (NY), and El Salvador. After graduation, Becky spent a year in Hakui, Japan, with the JETS English program. She then spent several months in Bogota, Colombia, assisting Franciscian Sisters teaching in the barrios. Most recently, she spent several months with the Sisters of Charity in Calcutta, India, working with severely handicapped children in an orphanage. Her life was spent in service to others. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2002 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2002 at Williamson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to DAYA DAN (orphanage for handicapped and mentally challenged children) in Calcutta, India.

Mr. Ralph Griggs
Ralph Griggs, age 79, of New Salem, Ill. died Thursday morning (August 1, 2002) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill.. He was born November 27, 1922 in Shenandoah, Iowa son of the late John Hampton and Helen Mae Brown Griggs. He married Rosalie Predmore on November 24, 1945 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Martha Harris husband Bob of Pittsfield, Ill., Pam Smithers and husband Greg of Pittsfield, Ill., and Joyce Lord and husband Mark of Pittsfield, Ill.; one son, Jeff Griggs and wife Karen of Pittsfield, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Christy Freeman and husband Gary of Pittsfield, Ill., Randy Harris and wife Gina of Springfield, Ill., Travis Smithers of Pittsfield, Ill., Mike Smithers and wife Teija of Pittsfield, Ill., Jason Smithers and wife Noelle of Pittsfield, Ill., and Jess Smithers of Carlinville, Ill., Nikki Ferber of Milton, Ill., Doug Lord and Brock Lord of Pittsfield, Ill.; nine great grandchildren, Addie, Jordan, Cody, and Hunter Freeman all of Pittsfield, Ill., Hannah and Claire Harris of Springfield, Ill., Schae Moore, Isaac Smithers, and Kameron Smithers all of Pittsfield, Ill.; one brother, George Griggs of St. Louis, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-mothers, Martha Griggs and Anona Griggs. Mr. Griggs was a 27 year employee of Brown Shoe Co. in Pittsfield, Ill. and was president of the local union for 12 years. He also drove the Star Route mail truck for several years running from Quincy, Ill. to Liberty, Ill. to Barry, Ill. to Pittsfield, Ill. to Griggsville, Ill to New Salem, Ill. then to Baylis, Ill.. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Air Force as a turret gunner on a B-26. He was a member of Griggsville Legion Post #213, the New Salem Community Club, and New Salem Sportsman’s Club. He was an avid reader. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery near New Salem, Ill. with graveside military rites conducted by Griggsville American Legion Post #213. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Salem United Methodist Church or Gray Cemetery.

Mr. John F. "Bud" Hall
John F. “Bud” Hall, 76, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday afternoon, June 25, 2002 at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. He was born on July 10, 1925 in Jacksonville the son of Frederick and Mary Donnelly Hall. He married Helen Ring on August 7, 1948 in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, John E. Hall of Jacksonville, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Hall.
Mr. Hall was a sales representative for Electrolux, retiring after over 35 years of service. He had earlier worked with his father at Bunn-Capitol Wholesale Groceries in Jacksonville. He served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Mr. Hall was an outstanding three-sport athlete at Routt High School. Following his serving in the Navy, he attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa where he played basketball; and later transferred to Illinois College. While a student at I.C., he was hired as varsity basketball coach at Routt. Mr. Hall was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, and a member of the Church of Our Saviour.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2002 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Williamson Funeral Home where a prayer service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. The family will meet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Routt Catholic High School or Barton W. Stone Christian Home.

Mrs. Dorothy Wingler Hamilton
Dorothy Wingler Hamilton, 80, of Jacksonville, died Saturday morning, October 5, 2002 at Doctor’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on July 7, 1922 in Jacksonville, the daughter of George and Cora Beech Wingler. She married Loren W. Hamilton on January 31, 1960 and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1994. She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Mary (husband, Gene) White of Jacksonville, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, John Wingler, George Wingler, Roy Wingler, Edgar Wingler, and Orville Wingler; and four sisters, Alma Mentz, Etta Follis, Florence McGath, and Ruby Salzman. Mrs. Hamilton was employed as a housekeeper at the Jacksonville Developmental Center for 15 years, retiring in 1994. Prior to that she had been employed at Barr’s Laundry in Jacksonville. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, A.F.S.C.M.E., and the AmVets. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. The family will meet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church.
