Jack L. Hoots
Jack L. Hoots, 69 of Sweet Home, Oregon and formerly of Winchester passed away Tuesday January 15, 2002 in Sweet Home.
He was born March 15, 1932 in Winchester the son of the late James E. and Rose Ella Evans Hoots.
He married Juanita Fladder in Illinois in 1953 and they had 2 daughters. He then married Patsy Leonard Marre April 10, 1965 in Las Vegas, Neveda. He had lived in Califonia until moving to Sweet Home, Oregon in 1969.
Mr. Hoots attended Bloomfield Country School. He served in the US Navy from 1951 until 1955. He served on board the USS Manchester and received the United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, China Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal.
Mr. Hoots worked for the Champion Plywood Company for 15 years, retiring in 1985, he also cut and baled hay on shares. He loved farming, cutting hay, hunting, fishing and horseback riding. He was a member of the Lebanon Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife Pat of Sweet Home, Oregon, daughters Lynn Skilliter of Anahiem, California, and Terri Hardy of Mission Viejo, California, a son Charles Hoots of Chewelah, Washington, a step daughter Renee Alvarez of Tigard, Oregon along with 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are 5 brothers, Cecil “Pete” Hoots of Sweet Home, George, Leonard, Carl and Everette “Dean” Hoots all of Winchester, 3 sisters, Nellie “Kate” Hoots of Beardstown, Louise Evans of Bluffs, and Dorothy Scott of Jacksonville.
Preceding him in death were his parents and 2 brothers James and Paul Hoots.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday January 24, 2002 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery northwest of Winchester where military rites will be conducted.
Friends may call from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Nellie Kathlene Hoots
Nellie Kathleen “Kate” Hoots, 86, of Winchester passed away late Thursday evening (January 31, 2002) at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born January 5, 1916 in Scott County the daughter of the late James E. and Rose Ella Evans Hoots.
She attended Bloomfield country school and was a member of Bloomfield Baptist Church.
Miss Hoots loved to go for walks, enjoyed going to church and picking strawberries in the garden. She had a knack for remembering the birthday’s of all of the family members.
Surviving are 5 brothers, Cecil “Pete” Hoots of Sweet Home, Oregon George, Leonard, Carl and Everette “Dean” Hoots all of Winchester, 2 sisters, Louise Evans of Bluffs, and Dorothy Scott of Jacksonville and many nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and 3 brothers James, Paul and Jack Hoots.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday (February 2, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery north west of Winchester.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Cass/Schuyler Hospice or to the Activity Fund at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
Mr. Jim Hoots
Jim Hoots, 59, of Jacksonville, died Thursday morning, November 21, 2002, at his residence. He was born on July 20, 1943, in Jacksonville, the son of Rollie L. and Bertha Helen Welch Hoots. He is survived by one son, Jamey (fiance, Mandy Burnett) Hoots of Jacksonville; two grandsons; his companion, Sue Starner Wilford; three step-daughters, Kim Million of Taylorville, Nikki Million of Carrollton, and Brandi (husband, John) Bowman of Jacksonville; one brother, Luther “Sonny” (wife, Aggie) Hoots of Lonoke, Arkansas; three sisters, Sandra Brockhouse, Shirley Morris, and Deanna (husband, Rock) Shouse, all of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James Hoots; one brother, Ronnie Hoots (surviving wife Jeannie of Jacksonville), and one sister, Frances Brown. Mr. Hoots did mechanical and repair work at his family’s Hoots SAL home in Jacksonville. He was employed at Diamond Touch Detailing prior to his illness. He collected antiques and had a keen interest in American Indian culture. He enjoyed custom painting cars and motorcycles. A celebration of life will be held Sunday at 710 E. Douglas, and friends are invited to call at the residence any time after 10 a.m. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice Care of Central Illinois, Jacksonville Branch. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Barbara E. Hopper
Barbara E. Hopper, 75, of Chicago and formerly of Jacksonville, died Saturday morning, June 22, 2002 at her residence. She was born August 18, 1926 in Jacksonville the daughter of J. Albert and Floss Proctor Hopper.
She is survived by two nieces, Dinah (husband, James) Edmonson of Shreveport, Louisiana and Linda (husband, Jim) Tallahan of Seattle, Washington; and many longtime friends including Herman and June Andalcio of Chicago. She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Albert Hopper.
Ms. Hopper retired from the American Medical Association in Chicago. She was a licensed ice skating judge and a member of the DuPage Ice Skating Club where she served as corresponding secretary. She was an avid genealogist and a train enthusiast, traveling extensively by train. She attended St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in Chicago.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, DuPage Ice Skating Club, or the donor’s choice. The Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
Jean Ann Horner (Dabbs)
Jean Ann Horner, 31, of New Canton was pronounced dead on Monday Feb.
25, 2002 near Mexico, Mo.
Born in Tyler, Texas on Oct. 26, 1970 she was the daughter of Mildred
Scoggins Willis of Carrollton and Dwight Dabbs.
She was married to Paul Horner and he survives. Also surviving are a
daughter Kimber Clawson of Quincy, a brother Patrick Abbott of
Hazelwood, Mo. and 2 sisters: Christina Foshee of Oklahoma and Katrina
Abbott of Oregon.
Jean was currently working at McDonald’s Restaurant in Pittsfield.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Mr. David F. Horney
David F. Horney, 71, of South Jacksonville and formerly of White Hall died early Sunday morning, February 10, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born August 11, 1930 in Green view the son of David F. and Hazel Hartley Horney, Sr. He married Myrtle Mercer on September 10, 1950 in White Hall and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, David F. “Fred” (wife, Susie) Horney III of Hollywood, Florida; Dan Horney of Springfield; and Mike (wife, Lisa) Horney of Virginia; three daughters, Carol (husband, Steve) McNealy of Jacksonville, Becky Jones of San Jose, California and Janet (husband, Warren) Smith of Jacksonville; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two sisters: Leona Hansen of White Hall and Celia Crist of Pineville, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra K. Minor, surviving husband, Jerry of Virginia, and one sister, Darlene Cherry.
Mr. Horney worked at Kroger’s in White Hall for 32 years, retiring as manager of the produce department. He was a member and ordained elder at Harvest Temple United Pentecostal Church, where he has served as a trustee. Mr. Horney volunteered at Passavant Hospital and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He was a great fan of sports, and was a particularly avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.on Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at the White Hall Pentecostal Church with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery, near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 4-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to the Heart Fund or Lighthouse Ranch for Boys.
Mr. Gene Edward Houchens
Gene Edward Houchens, 79, of Waverly, Illinois, passed away March 6, 2002 at Doctors Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. He was born July 13, 1922, in Etoile, Kentucky. He is the son of Moss and Minnie Jackson Houchens. He married Kathryn Martin September 14, 1945 in Decatur, Illinois.
Mr. Houchens was a factory worker at Fiat Allis most of his life. He was also a member of the Etoile Baptist Church in Kentucky.
He is survived by is wife, 2 sons; Terry Lee (Jacki) Houchens of Gilbert, Arizona, Bill (Sandra) Houchens of Palmyra, Illinois; 1 daughter; Nancy Sue Houchens of Waverly, Illinois; 1 brother; Dee Roy Houchens of Divernon, Illinois; 5 sisters; Bessie (Robert)Johnston of Olney, Illinois; Evelyn McGuire of Glasgow, Illinois; Anna (Leland) Smith of Divernon, Illinois; Nell (Fred) Johnson of Cornland, Illinois; Olene Plants of Brookville, Florida; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 9, 2002 at 1pm, at the Waverly Baptist Church in Waverly, Illinois. Family will meet friends from 4pm to 8pm, Friday, March 8, 2002 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, Illinois. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Baptist Church or the Waverly Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Frances L. Hubbs (Thompson)
Frances L. Hubbs, age 86, of Winchester, Ill. died Monday evening (August 12, 2002) at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill.. She was born April 3, 1916 in Winchester, Ill. daughter of the late Roy S. and Lee Taylor Thompson. She married Joshua Bennett Hubbs on June 23, 1936 in Winchester, Ill. and he died during W.W. II in January of 1944. Surviving is one son, Michael Hubbs and wife Janice of Winchester, Ill.; two granddaughters, Marjorie Hubbs of Winchester, Ill. and Nancy Hubbs of Winchester, Ill.; a nephew, Robert Pittenger and wife Donna of Houston, Texas.; and three great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one sister, Madeline Pittenger. Mrs. Hubbs was a 1934 graduate of Winchester High School in Winchester, Ill. and attended MacMurry College in Jacksonville, Ill. and taught in various schools in Scott, Co.. She was a member of the Jacksonville Country Club, the Jacksonville D.A.R., and the First Baptist Church in Winchester, Ill.. She enjoyed driving her car, taking friends various places and visiting with the elderly at the Scott County Nursing Center. But she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her granddaughters. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (August 15, 2002) at the First Baptist Church in Winchester, Ill. with Rev. Gene Parker officiating. Burial will be in Winchester City Cemetery. Mrs. Betty Ann Hughes (Ratliff)
Betty Ann Hughes, age 64, of White Hall, died Saturday morning,
April 27, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield after a prolonged
illness.
She was born Jan. 7, 1938 in rural Scott County, the daughter of
Claude and Myrtle Bunch Ratliff.
She married Carl Ray Hughes, Sr. on Sept. 8, 1951 in Little Rock,
Arkansas and he survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Carl Ray (wife, Kathleen) Hughes
of Jacksonville, Rick (wife, Becky) Hughes of White Hall, Joe (wife, Judy)
Hughes of Houston, Texas and James Hughes of Shelby, North Carolina;
one daughter, Lorry Campbell Bills (husband Tom) of Jacksonville; twelve
grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four brothers, Charles (wife, Kay)
Ratliff of Murrayville, George Ratliff of Virginia, Donnie (wife, Joyce)
Ratliff of Murrayville, Scotty (wife, Judy) Ratliff of Jacksonville; one
half-brother, Leroy Bunch of Virden; six sisters, Margaret Currier of
Jacksonville, Stella Lomelino of Murrayville, Lula Belle Ratliff (fiancé,
Larry Viera) of Ceres, Mary (husband, Jerry) Lomelino of Glasgow, Annie
Snodgrass of Patterson and Rosie Perkins of Jacksonville. She was
preceded in death by two sons, George and Terry, one daughter, Barbara
Ann; one brother, Tom Ratliff and one half-sister, Harriett Henson.
Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and sold strawberries and eggs for
many years at her home. She was an avid Cardinal baseball fan.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002
at the White Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1:00-3:00
p.m. Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall.
Memorials are suggested to the family. There will be a memorial service
conducted Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in
Jacksonville with family meeting friends one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Ronald Lee Hunt
Ronald Lee Hunt, 62, of Franklin, Illinois, died unexpectedly , Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at at his home in Franklin, Illinois. He was born June 6, 1939 in Scottville, Illinois, the son of Irving Wilson and Faye Loraine Allen Hunt. He married Sylvia Becerra Jones on March 24, 1966 in Peoria, Illinois, she survives.
He served in the United States Army from 1961-1964. He retired after 31 years as a machinist for Catapiller in Mapleton, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife; 3 step-sons, Greg (Cindy) Jones of Peoria, Illinois; Robert Jones of Birmingham, Alabama; Jeffrey Jones of Birmingham, Alabama; 2 daughters, Paula Morgan of Portland Tennessee; Ronny (Scott) Porter of Marble Falls, Texas; 2 brothers, Donald (companion, Betty) Hunt of Franklin, Illinois; Irving Hunt of Franklin, Illinois; 4 sisters, Reba (Gerald) German of Waverly, Illinois; Joyce L. Hunt White of Springfield, Illinois; Peggy (Donald) Berndt of Waverly, Illinois; Mary Lou (Farrell) Means of Jacksonville, Illinois; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30, Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin, Illinois. Family will receive friends from 6pm tp 8pm, Friday, March 22, 2002, at the Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin, Illinois. Burial and military services will be at Panther Creek Cemetery in Scottville, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

John Douglas Hunter
John D. Hunter, 73, of Carrollton died at 1:05 A.M. at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton on Friday Dec. 13, 2002. born in Brighton on Feb. 9, 1929 he was the son of the late John D. and Annie Breitweiser Hunter. Surviving are 2 daughters: April Walton of Sentinel, Ok. , Della (husband-Mark ) Bassett of Sayre, Ok., 4 sons: Jeff (wife Sandra) Hunter of Cheyenne, Ok., Dan (wife Sheila ) Hunter of Sayre, Ok., Jason Hunter of Sayre, Ok. , Jacob Hunter of Canute, Ok., 3 step daughters: Peggy (husband Brad) Wagner of Godfrey, Becky (husband William) Stewart of Bethalto, Susan (husband Terry ) McMaster of Carter, Ok., several grandchildren, 2 sisters: Philomena (husband Lester) Goheen of Dow and Isabelle Dabbs of Tyler, Texas. His guardian Gordon (wife Linda) Dabbs of Brighton also survives along with other nephews and nieces. Mr. Hunter was a farmer and U.S. Army Veteran. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. on Monday until service time at 11 A.M. on Monday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery and memorials are to a charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Willard Hutson
Willard Hutson, 86, of Chapin died Wednesday evening, April 24, 2002 at his residence. He was born on February 12, 1916 in Jacksonville the son of Paris and Laura Groves Hutson. He married Bernice Spires on December 28, 1940 in Palmyra, Missouri and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, David (wife, Glenna) Hutson of Meredosia; one daughter, Donna (husband, Glenn) Savage of Springfield; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Kay Camerer; two brothers, Verlen Hutson (surviving wife Helen of Glenwood Springs, Colorado) and Wilfred Hutson; and two sisters, Veula Meier and Alma Murray.
Mr. Hutson worked as a young man at Illinois Steele Bridge Company in Jacksonville. In 1940 he worked as a ship fitter in the Norfolk Navy yard in Portsmouth, Virginia. He served in the United States Navy, and following his discharge, had farmed in the Chapin area for over 50 years. Mr. Hutson was a member of the American Legion Post 878 at Chapin and the Chapin Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Chapin Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Arnold B. Hyde
Arnold B. Hyde, 82, of Carrollton died at 12:44 A.M. on Saturday Nov. 23, 2002 at Jersey Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. born in Woodville Twp. on Sept. 13, 1920 he was the son of the late Fred and Grace Brannan Hyde. On August 16, 1942 he married the former Betty Ray in Old Monroe, Mo. and she preceded him in death on April 26, 1999. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law: Cynthia “Cindy” and Keith Tapen of Carrollton, 3 granddaughters: Amanda Settles, Ginger and Jamie Tapen, 2 great-grandchildren: Delaney and Luke Settles and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother Tom Hyde. Mr. Hyde was a World War II Marine Corps Veteran, serving in Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged from the 2nd Marine Division in Oct. of 1945. He trucked for Kenneth Brannan, worked and the Implement Co. in Calhoun County and later worked at Green e Co. Farm Supply Co. for 31 years as a petroleum salesman and credit manager retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton, the Marine Corps League in Jerseyville, the Knights of Columbus, the Carrollton Lions Club and the American Legion. Visitation will be from 3-7 P.M. on Monday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tues. at 11 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church with burial in Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Green e Co. Health Dept. , Blessing Hospice, American Cancer Society or for masses.
Mr. Russell Hymes

Frank Russell Hymes, 94, of Jacksonville died Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2002 at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville. He was born on November 27, 1907 at Sinclair the son of Frank Edward and Lucretia Lindsey Hymes. He married Frances M. McFadden on February 8, 1939 in Bowling Green , Missouri and she preceded him in death on February 10, 1995.
He is survived by two sons, Eugene (wife, Isidra) Hymes of Jacksonville and Alvin (wife, Molly) Hymes of Bemidji, Minnesota; one daughter, Lucretia (Lucy) Myers of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; one brother, Lloyd (wife, Josephine) Hymes of Jacksonville; four sisters, Bernice Hoagland, Frances Fouts, and Aileen McKinley, all of Jacksonville; and Betty (husband, Charles) Burgess of Chapin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ernest; one granddaughter, Joanna Kay Hymes; his son-in-law, Harry Myers; six brothers, Everett Hymes, Oren Hymes (surviving wife Ann of Chapin), Floyd Hymes (surviving wife Deed of Chapin), Harold Hymes, Charles Hymes (surviving wife Mildred of Jacksonville), and Robert Hymes; and three sisters, Mildred Griffin, Virginia Hymes, and one sister in infancy.
Mr. Hymes farmed his entire life in the Arcadia area. He was a member of the Morgan County Farm Bureau and the ATA. He enjoyed fishing and mushrooming.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Chapin Cemetery near Chapin. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Community Christian Church in Jacksonville or the Modern Care Activity Fund.
Jack G. Inman
Jack Inman,83, well known Carrollton businessman, died at 12:16 P.M. on
Monday Jan. 28, 2002 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Calhoun Co. on March 2, 1918 he was the son of the late Allen and
Cuba Coughlin Inman.
He first married the former Aileen Mehrhoff in 1955 and she preceded
him in death on Dec. 19, 1985. He later married the former Sandy Bauer
Coonrod on April 7, 1989 in Carrollton and she survives.
Also surviving are 5 stepsons: Allen (wife-Vickie) Leininger of Costa
Rica, Chet (wife-Jean) Coonrod of Quincy, Bret Coonrod of Carrollton,
Paul (wife-Lynn) Coonrod of East Lyme, Conn., and Lance (wife-Sara)
Coonrod of St. Charles, Mo., 11 step grandchildren, 1 brother Jim (wife
Judy) Inman of Las Vegas, Nev. He was preceded in death by a brother
Dale Inman and a sister Marie Inman Cook.
Mr. Inman was a World War II Army Air Corps Captain spending 4 of
his five years of service in the European Theatre. After completing his
service he went into business in Jerseyville with his siblings and later moved
to Carrollton where he opened Inman Dept. Store. He later expanded to
Winchester and Roodhouse. He added a variety store in Carrollton in the
early 60’s that later became J & A Variety. He retired in 1992. He loved
antique cars, especially the Model T Ford. He was a member of the
Carrollton First Baptist Church and the Jerseyville Moose Lodge.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Friday at the Carrollton First Baptist Church where funeral services will be held on Sat. at 11 A.M.
Burial will follow in the Carrollton City
Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building
Fund or the Carrollton United Methodist Church Building Fund.
