Mr. Richard Lee Neal
Richard Lee Neal, 77, of Waverly, IL, died Monday, November 4, 2002 in Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, IL. He was born February 24, 1925 in Monticello, Kentucky, a son of Clarence and Bessie Bertram Neal. He married Marie Childers on July 7, 1954 in Jacksonville, IL. and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2001. Surviving are one daughter Betty (husband Darrell) Hauenstein of Waverly, three sisters: Jean Stewart of Franklin, IL, Lillian Witherbee of Franklin, IL and Norene Van Deveer of Peoria, IL, one granddaughter: Mary McCoy-Smith of Elwood, Indiana, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers: Oral Thomas Neal and Elmer Junior Neal, one sister Rose Morris who died October 25 of this year, and two grandsons: Richard Baldwin and Timothy Bartz. He retired from R. D. Lawrence Company and was a member of the union there. He was a veteran of WWII serving as a lineman in the field artillery battery, in the army in the Asiatic Theatre in Japan from April 1945 to August 1946.. He was a former member of the American Legion Post # 1089 in Franklin, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday November 8, 2002 in Youngblood Baptist Church, Nortonville, IL. Visitation will be at the Neece Funeral Home in Franklin on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm and at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until service time. Burial will be in Nortonville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The Multiple Sclerosis Association.
Mrs. Luana M. Neal (Kimball)
Luana M. Neal, age 82, of Boise, Idaho and formerly a resident for 32 years of Pittsfield, Illinois, died Thursday evening (February 14, 2002) due to natural causes in Boise, Idaho.
She was born April 19, 1919 daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Slocum Green Kimball.
She married Warren W. Neal on February 21, 1941 in Bowling Green , Mo. and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1990.
Surviving are two daughters, Janice Odle and husband Steve of Boise, Idaho and Lennis Koehler of Sacramento, California; eight grandchildren, Michelle and Rob, Janay and Ron, Dean and Teresa the children of Janice and Kelly and Stacy the daughters of Lennis; and ten great-grandchildren, McKayla, Brenen, Michael, Alana, Nick, Adam, Ashley, Amber, Brandon, and Raven.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Ms. Neal was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Pittsfield Illinois. She donated her time to the community in many ways including helping to deliver Meals on Wheels. She loved to bring joy into many lives. Some of her hobbies included, crafts, lunch and laughter with her friends. She always had the company of her little Schnauzer, Tina.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (February 20, 2002) at the Pittsfield First Baptist Church in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Vale Walkington officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. where family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Niada Mae Neff (Barber)
Niada Mae Neff, age 76, of White Hall, died Monday evening, May 6,
2002 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born April 10, 1926 in Roodhouse, the daughter of Cecil and
Nellie Robinson Barber.
She married Johnnie I. Neff on Nov. 29, 1945 in Jacksonville and he
preceded her in death on March 20, 1990.
She is survived by two sons, John Edward (wife, Donna) Neff of
White Hall and David Allen (wife, Debra) Neff of Fredrickstown, MO; six
daughters, Linda Kay (husband, Ron) Wahl of Gillespie; Paula Jean
(husband, C.R.) Richards of Roodhouse; Rosemary (husband, Bruce)
Ziegler of White Hall; Nell Ruth (husband, Dennis) Winters of
Jacksonville; Donna Sue (husband, Phillip) Wright of White Hall and Jo
Ann (husband, Donnie) Kania of White Hall; twenty-seven grandchildren;
thirty-seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Juanita Prough of
Carrollton. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Barber and
one sister, Alice Buster.
Mrs. Neff worked at the dress factory in White Hall for many years,
then worked at Alsey Manufacturing, then J & P Manufacturing in
Roodhouse until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of the White
Hall VFW Auxiliary Post 7684.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the VFW Tree of
Joy.
Mrs. Bernice V. Neff (Givens)
Bernice V. Neff, age 94, of the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died early Tuesday morning (December 31, 2002) at the Pittsfield HealthCare Center. She was born March 8, 1908 at Sandridge in Scott County, Ill. daughter of the late John and Hattie Cox Givens. She married Charles Alvin Neff on May 30, 1924 and he preceded her in death on May 1, 1966. Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Lawber of New Salem, Ill., Marilyn Sanders of Cummings, Georgia, Dorothy Pressey and husband Greg of Springfield, Mo. and Sue Craven and husband Phil of Griggsville, Ill.; two sons, Roy Neff and wife Darla of Griggsville, Ill. and Ray Neff of Emerson, Mo.; 32 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Paul Neff, Albert “Sonny” Neff, and Charles Edward Neff; two daughters, Marjorie in infancy and Madelyn Gress; a granddaughter, Pam Gress; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Vetter; a great-grandson, Larry White; a great-great granddaughter, Shelby White; a great-great grandson Lawrence White; and three sisters, Daisy, Della, and Peg Mrs. Neff loved to work in her garden and flowers when she was able. She also had a smile for every small child she saw. She was known for spoiling her grandkids that she loved dearly. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dennis Will officiating. Burial will be in Blue River Cemetery near Detroit, Ill.. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the North Pike Ambulance, Griggsville Fire Department or Griggsville Community Christmas.
Mrs. Viola Marion "Tootie" Neff (Stauffer)
Viola Marion “Tootie” Neff, age 65, of Roodhouse, died
Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
She was born May 19, 1936 in Roodhouse, the daughter of Allen M.
“Dutch” and Leola M. “Blondie” Crain Stauffer.
She married Everett Alexander in 1959 in Roodhouse and he
preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1966.
She is survived by one son, Steven (wife, Deirdre) Alexander of
Roodhouse; one daughter, Debra (husband, Ron) Ferguson of Roodhouse;
ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one brother, Russell Rice
of White Hall and one sister, Ruth Lathery of Jackson, Mississippi. She was
preceded in death by two great grandchildren.
Ms. Neff had been a cub scout den leader in Roodhouse for several
years. She owned and operated three different restaurants in Roodhouse
through the years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Gentle
Shepherd Fellowship Church west of White Hall. She enjoyed hunting for
mushrooms and picking blackberries. She loved to cook and loved to go
fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002
at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse with burial at Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 12:00-2:00
p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Gentle
Shepherd Fellowship Church.
Denmon Newton
Denmon Newton, 60, of Carrollton was pronounced dead at 5 P.M. at his residence on Wednesday Oct. 30, 2002. born in Eldred on Dec. 26, 1941 he was the son of the late Otto “Dutch” and Norma Smith Newton. Surviving are 3 daughters and sons in law: Stacey and Steve Ruyle of Jerseyville, Tammy and Brian Nicholson of Staunton, Angie and Terry Bechel of Pearl, 5 granddaughters and a brother Terry Newton. Mr. Newton was a retired carpenter working for Newton Bros. Construction for 35 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge and the Eldred Baptist Church. Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday at the Eldred Baptist Church . Friends may call from 1 P.M. until service time that afternoon. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Robert Thomas O'Shea
Robert Thomas O’Shea, 67, of Springfield died Sunday morning, June 16, 2002 at his residence. He was born on May 9, 1935 in Chicago the son of Thomas Mitchell and Julia Ann Bohland O’Shea. He married Sandra Lacey on July 7, 1984 in Rock Island and she survives. He is also survived by three sons, Richard M. (wife, Diane) O’Shea of Denver, Colorado, Brian (wife, Renee) O’Shea of Frankfurt, and David D. (wife, Angela) Lewis of Dawson; three daughters, Sharon O’Shea of Maryville, Tennessee, Brenda O’Shea of Valrico, Florida, and Debra (husband, James) Shorter of Sudlerville, Maryland; and nine grandchildren. Mr. O’Shea was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Thomas O’Shea and Randall E. O’Shea. Mr. O’Shea was a Division Sales Manager with Whitehall Laboratories. He served in the Air National Guard for eight years. He was of the Catholic faith. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Memorial Medical Center Oncology Department.
Mr. Howard "Tom" Odaffer
Howard “Tom” Odaffer, 84, of Jacksonville died Tuesday afternoon, March 12, 2002 at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. He was born on November 19, 1917 in Jacksonville the son of Ray and Edna Flynn Odaffer. He married Frances E. Hembrough on August 6, 1950 in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on March 10, 1996.
He is survived by one sister, Louise (husband, William) Clayton of Ashland; three brothers, Harold (wife, Jean) Odaffer of Jacksonville, Clyde (wife, Peggy) Odaffer of Bedford, Indiana, and George (wife, Eva) Odaffer of Satellite Beach, Florida; several nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law, Bernice (husband, Tom) Kerley of Mt. Sterling. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mae Thrower.
Mr. Odaffer served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II. After the war, he worked at the Strawn’s Crossing Elevator. Mr. Odaffer later worked for many years at T and H Farm Supply in Jacksonville. He was a member of American Legion Post 279 in Jacksonville and Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Asbury Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1 p.m. on Friday until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to Brooklyn United Methodist Church, Asbury Cemetery, or the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Mary Florine Olson (Bergman)
Mary Florine Olson, age 93, of the Griggsville Estates Boarding Home and formerly of Perry, Ill. died Thursday afternoon (Oct. 3, 2002) at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill. She was born August 1, 1909 near Perry, Ill. daughter of the late Fred and Rosa Higdon Bergman. She married Roy E. Olson on July 3, 1934 in Monmouth, Ill. and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1984. Surviving is one daughter, Elgin Dee Krugler and husband John of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; two sons, John Olson and wife Judy of Pittsfield, Ill. and Rex Olson and wife Glenna of Perry, Ill.; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Helen Bergman, Elsie McKean and Florence Little; and three brothers, Richard, Ross, and Clifford Bergman; and a great-grandson in infancy. Mrs. Olson was a graduate of Perry High School and Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill. and taught in Blandinsville, Perry, and Griggsville schools. She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, Fairmount Women’ Association, Pike County Home Extension, the Fairmount Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Guild, and was a lifetime member of the Perry P.T.A.. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and knitting, and was a well known accomplished poet. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dorothy Fellhauer officiating. Burial will be in McCord Cemetery in Perry, Ill.. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Griggsville Estates Boarding Home or the Perry Garden Club or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Pauline Virginia Ore (Trotter)
Pauline Virginia Ore, 97, of Beardstown and formerly of the Sinclair area, died Wednesday evening, October 2, 2002 at the Heritage Manor East in Beardstown. She was born September 25, 1905 in Sinclair the daughter of Fred Canby and Amelia “Millie” Roth Trotter. She married Ray Everett Ore on July 7, 1925 and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1976. Surviving is one son, Fred (wife, Alice) Ore of White Heath, two daughters, June (husband, Harold) Nobis and Marion (husband, Ray) Francis both of Arenzville and one grandson Roger (wife, Penny) Ore of Jacksonville who was raised in the home, one sister, Lela Fortado of Jacksonville, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-granchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fritz, Milton, John W. and Marion Trotter. Mrs. Ore had been employed as an aide at the Jacksonville State Hospital for 21 years. She was a former member of the Hebron Methodist Church at Sinclair. Mrs. Ore was well-known for her prize-winning angel food cakes, her hand sewing and quilt making. She especially enjoyed raising farm animals and provided many in the area with fresh eggs. Mrs. Ore was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at the Arenzville North Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the Williamson Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
Mr. James P. Orr
James P. Orr, age 67, of Roodhouse, died Thursday afternoon, May
23, 2002 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
He was born Feb. 14, 1935 in White Hall, the son of James H. and
Josephine P. Potter Orr.
He is survived by two sisters, Isabel P. Orr of Fern Park , Florida and
Jeanne (husband, Michael) Bettis of Roodhouse; and one brother, Charles H.
(wife Kaye) Orr of McPherson, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his
parents and one brother, Joseph.
Mr. Orr was a member of the Roodhouse Methodist Church. He was
a systems analyst for the United States government in Kansas City and
Washington DC, retiring back to Roodhouse in 1993. He served as an
Alderman for the City of Roodhouse and was active in city and county
politics. He currently sat on the Board of Review in Green e County. He was
a member of the Fernwood Cemetery Association board, serving as its current
president. Mr. Orr had recently purchased property on the west side of
Roodhouse which he donated to the city so that a park and playground could
be constructed there.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse with burial in the Fernwood
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral
home. Memorials are suggested to the Roodhouse Parks Board to be used for
the construction of the new park.
Mrs. E. Kathleene Orrill (Robinson)
E. Kathleene Orrill, of Morton, IL, formerly of Pittsfield, IL, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Morton Terrace Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born October 26, 1922 in Pittsfield, Ill., daughter of the late O. Guy and Cora Elliott Robinson in Pittsfield.
She married Russell (Hugh) Orrill April 14, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Orrill and wife Pam of Bartonville, Ill., and Ronald K. Orrill and wife Lynn of East Peoria, Ill.; three daughters, Rebeccah Mayes and husband Jim of Vincennes, Indiana, Rhonda McCartney and husband Rick of Morton, Ill., and Rita Pulling and husband Gene of Groveland, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five brothers, Amos, Sidney, Stanley, William and James Robinson.
Mrs. Orrill was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School, Pittsfield, IL. She was employed early in life by Smith Paints and later by Buy Rite Foods both in Pittsfield. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Pittsfield. She had been a member of Pittsfield Assembly of God Church while living in Pittsfield and later attended First Baptist Church in Peoria after moving to Morton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (June 15, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Thomas G. Bayes officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 pm. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Melvin Wayne Paluska
Melvin Wayne Paluska, 89, of Modesto, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard, Illinois. He was born June 3, 1913 in Lowder, Il. the son of Frank and Eva May Dodd Puluska. He married Mary Elizabeth Shearburn on November 26, 1938 in Modesto. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1996. He served in World War II in the European Theatre retiring as a Master Seargent from the United States Air Force. He also served 24 years in the Illinois National Guard, retiring from the State of Illinois. He was a member of the Modesto Baptist Church. He is survived by 3 brothers; Harold (Katie) Paluska of Leewood, Kansas; Medill(Helen) Paluska of Waverly; Dean (Mary Louise) Paluska of Virden, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 1 sister; June O’Neil. Services will be at 11am, Friday, September 27, 2002 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. Family will friends from 10am until service time. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Modesto Baptist Church.
