Mrs. Ada Helen Seymoure (Heberling)
Ada Helen Seymoure, age 88, of White Hall, died Saturday morning, Oct. 26, 2002 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville. She was born Aug. 18, 1914 in White Hall, the daughter of Clyde Henry and Lora Agnes Nash Heberling. She married Thomas A. Seymoure on Feb. 20, 1932 in Jerseyville and he preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1973. She is survived by five sons, William (wife, Johoan) Seymoure of White Hall; Ronald (wife, Linda) Seymoure of Jacksonville; Larry (wife, Sheila) Seymoure of Midland, Michigan; David Seymoure of Denver, Colorado and Phillip Seymoure of White Hall; eight daughters, Joan (husband, Glenn) Settles of White Hall; Lora Lou (husband, Jerry) Walker of Six Mile, South Carolina; Mary Jane (husband, Doug) Norris of Cole City; Linda (husband, Gary) Suttles of Winchester; Judy (husband, Richard) Caskey and Carla Hillis, both of White Hall; Peggy (husband, Phil) Simpson of Eldred and Cathy (husband, John) Griffith of Carrollton; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and one sister, Winnie Fry of White Hall. She was preceded in death by one son, Harold “Punkin” (surviving wife, Wanda of White Hall) Seymoure; three brothers, Myron Heberling, Ralph Heberling and Dean Heberling and two sisters, Hazel Whiteside and Mildred Carmean. Mrs. Seymoure worked at the dress factory in White Hall and Roodhouse for 15 years, retiring in 1975. She owned and operated an upholstery shop in White Hall for many years. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the White Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Hospice of Green e County.
Margaret L. Shaw (Schutz)
Margaret Lucille Shaw, 87, of Pekin, formerly of Green e Co. died at 7:30
P.M. on Thursday Jan. 17, 2002 at her home.
Born of Feb. 18, 1914 in Hillview she was the daughter of the late George
and Minnie Bockholdt Schutz. She married George Shaw in 1943 in Miami,
Fla. and he preceded her in death in Concord, Calif in 1977. Also preceding
her were 2 brothers and a sister.
Surviving are 2 brothers: Bill (wife Eileen) Schutz of Pekin, George (wife
Betty) Schutz of DesMoines, Washington and a sister: Sue (husband Paul)
VanZandt of Poland, Ohio.
A graduate of San Francisco State University, she taught in the Vallejo,
California elementary school district for 17 years, retiring in 1978. She
enjoyed gardening and travel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 P.M. at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in White Hall with visitation 1 hour prior to services on
Tuesday. Burial will be in the Pinetree Cemetery near Patterson.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Mrs. Mary Mariah Shaw (Briscoe)
Mary Mariah Shaw, age 90, of Temple, Texas, formerly of Roodhouse, died Sunday morning, Dec. 8, 2002 in Temple, Texas. She was born Dec. 15, 1911 in White Hall, the daughter of John and Mary Skaggs Briscoe. She married Charles Robert Shaw on Sept. 10, 1935 in Troy, Missouri and he preceded her in death Dec. 29, 1970. She is survived by one son, John Briscoe Shaw of San Francisco, California; one daughter, Cynthia Dunlap of Temple, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael; one brother, Harley Briscoe and one sister, Alice Briscoe. Mrs. Shaw was a housewife and was active in the Roodhouse Methodist Church for many years. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at the Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. The family will meet friends one hour prior to services Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse.
Mr. William Wayne Shearburn
William Wayne Shearburn, 69, of Waverly, died Wednesday November 27, 2002 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born March 4, 1933 in Palmyra, IL, a son of Gilbert Leland and Julia Arnold Shearburn. He married Gilda Wilhelm on June 4, 1955 in Waverly, and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter: Sherry (huband Allan) Yearber of Waverly; three grandchildren: John Wyatt, Chris Wyatt, and Lynnette Wyatt; four sisters: his twin Wanda Cox of Winchester, IL; Mary Fitzgerald of Springfield, IL; Frances Brown of East Alton, IL; and Evelyn (husband Kendall) McLeese of Palmyra; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Marshall Shearburn, and one grandson Todd Allan Wyatt. He retired from Mobil Chemical in 1992 after serving 34 1/2 years as an engineer. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of Waverly American Legion Post # 262 and a lifetime member of Waverly VFW Post #4866. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday December 1, 2002 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, Illinois. Friends may call after 2pm Saturday, November 30, 2002 , with family meeting friends from 4pm to 7pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly, Illinois. Mrs. Maude L. Shonhart (Capps)
Maude L. Shonhart, age 98, of Pittsfield, Ill. died 1:02 p.m. Wednesday (January 16, 2002) at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born December 7, 1904 in Pike County, Ill. daughter of the late Harold and Madge McClintock Capps.
She married Earl Shonhart in 1946 and he preceded her in death December 27, 1978.
Surviving is one sister, Frances LaDow of Collinsville, Ill.; one brother, Harold Capps of Pittsfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Leila Miller and Wilma Lyons; two brothers, Merle and Lyndle Capps.
She graduated Pittsfield High School riding to and from school in a horse and buggy and later attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill.. She was a member of the Pittsfield Church of Christ. She was employed by International Shoe Company in Hannibal, Mo. and later, with her husband, farmed in Martinsburg Township, Pike County, Ill.. She loved to garden and enjoyed flowers.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday (January 19, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Bro. Robert Hammitt officiating. Burial will be in Burbridge Cemetery south of Pittsfield, Ill. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Burbridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Evelyn Estelle Smith (Terry)
Evelyn Estelle Smith, 81, of Murrayville, and formerly of Roodhouse, died Saturday morning, July 20, 2002 at Skyview Terrace, Ltd. in Jacksonville. She was born on August 23, 1920 in Martin, Tennessee, the daughter of Robert Madison and Sarah Snow Terry. She married Collin S. Smith on October 12, 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1998.
She is survived by three sons, Donald (wife, Nora) Smith of Murrayville, David (wife, Ruth) Smith of Roodhouse, and Robert (wife, Joan) Smith of New Boston; four daughters, Lois (husband, Dennis) Albin of Literberry, Evelyn (husband, Loren) Simonds of Utica, Michigan, Norma (husband, Marvin) Mistic of Eldorado, Kansas, and Margaret Burbridge of Paris, Tennessee; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren, one sister, Dorothy Terry of Paris, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Loran and Robert Lewis Terry; four sisters, Irene, Mary Helen, Era, and Mildred; four half-brothers, Clydous, Richard, Lesslie, and Otis; and one half-sister, Liz Mae.
Mrs. Smith had worked at clothing factories in Paris, Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri, prior to moving to Illinois. She later worked helping her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed quilting and crafts, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Scottville West Cemetery near Scottville. Friends may call after 12 Noon on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Charles W. Smith
Charles W. Smith Charles W. Smith, 76, of Jacksonville, died early Saturday morning, December 7, 2002, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on May 23, 1926 in Missouri, the son of Charles W. and Lucille Bentley Smith, Sr. Mr. Smith was the last of his immediate family. He was of the Catholic faith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Immanuel East Cemetery. Mrs Flossie Fay Smith (Cherry)
Flossie Fay Smith, 97, of Scottville, IL died Monday, November 25, 2002 in Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL. She was born January 26, 1905 near Scottville, IL, a daughter of Otis and Melissa Hart Cherry. She married Walter Leroy Smith on February 6, 1923 in Carlinville, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1986. Surviving are three sons: Dale, (wife Donna) Smith of Nilwood, Coy Leroy Smith of Scottville, Keith (wife Evelyn) Smith of Scottville; two sisters: Opal Dugger of Auburn, IL; Helen Clouse of Chatham, IL, sixteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren and twenty-three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters: Vela Heriford and Evalina Morris. She was a member of Hartland Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, November 30, 2002 in Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, where the family will receive friends from 4 until 7 pm on Friday, November 29, 2002. Burial will be in Panther Creek Cemetery, Scottville. Memorials are suggested to Northwestern Rescue Squad.
Mr. Joseph Oscar Smith
Joseph Oscar Smith, 82, of Deming, New Mexico and formerly of White Hall died early Tuesday morning, November 19,2002 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming. He was born December 31, 1919 in Roodhouse the son of William Oscar and Carrie McGhehey Smith. He married Clara Ruth Stein on December 5, 1948 at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Lincoln, Illinois and she survives. He is also survived by two sons, David W. Smith of Alton and Bernie J. (wife, Channah) Smith of New Mexico; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Paul E.(wife, Ruth) Smith of Urbana and Retired Col. Phillip E. (wife, Peggy) Smith of Gilbert, Arizona. He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Smith Ryder and two brothers, James H. Smith and Robert R. Smith. He graduated from Roodhouse Community High School in 1938 and attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He served 3 years in the United States Army from June 2, 1943 until May 14, 1946 with the rank of Sgt. (T/4). During that time he spent 15 months in the China-Burma-India Theater and with the 837th Medical Dispensary in Kweiyang, China. He received his discharge at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Mr. Smith was engaged in farming near White Hall and in 1968 was elected Green e County Circuit Clerk. After being elected two more terms, he retired on December 2, 1980. In December of that year he and his wife Clara moved from their farm near White Hall to Deming, New Mexico. He was a member of the White Hall United Methodist Church and attended the First United Methodist Church in Deming, White Hall Lodge # 80, Ansar Shrine Temple in Springfield and the Deming Shrine Club. Funeral and Masonic services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at White Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1-3 Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, Deming First United Methodist Church or the White Hall United Methodist Church.
Ruby Esther Smith
Ruby Esther Smith, 93, of Winchester passed away Monday morning (July 8, 2002) at the Scott County Nursing Center.
She was born March 27, 1909 in Brown County near Mt. Sterling the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Sip Gristy.
She married Harvey William Smith May 17, 1928 in Bowling Green , Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1951. Also preceding her was her son Dale Edward Smith, and a sister Sara Waid, and a brother Claude Gristy.
Mrs. Smith attended school in Brown County. She was a homemaker and loved flower gardening. She was a former member of the Iris Society. She had over 700 kinds of iris and sold plants for many years. She also sold popcorn on Saturday night in front of her husband’s barbershop on the square in Winchester.
She was a member of Bloomfield Baptist Church.
Surviving is a grandson Mark Zeman and a great grandson Alex Zeman both of Santa Rosa, California, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday (July 10, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Dr. James Joseph Smith
James Joseph Smith (Dr. J.J. Smith) age 91, passed away Monday, January 7, 2002 at St. John's North Hospice in Springfield, Illinois. He was born in Marshall County, Kansas, on July 6, 1910, the son of Edward and Nora Loob Smith.
He began teaching rural schools immediately upon his graduation from St. Michaels's High School in Axtell, Kansas. He attended Emporia Teachers College and earned a life certificate to teach schools. After serving as superintendent of the grade school in Summerfield, Kansas, he entered Kansas State College and earned a B.S. in Agriculture Economics. He served in the Army Specialized Training Program at the college. He served St. Sebastian's Church as a Trustee and was past president of Waverly Lions Club.
When he graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1945, he set up practice in his home in Waverly, Illinois, where he served clients in several Central Illinois Counties for over fifty years.
Dr. Smith was elected president of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, and was a member of the Advisory Council for the Illinois Department of Agriculture. He trained senior interns from Kansas State, Cornell, and the University of Illinois.
He married La Verne Keller in Manhattan, Kansas, September 29, 1943, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, James Michael Smith (wife, Susan Hesse) of Champaign, Illinois ; Timothy Smith (wife, Eileen) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and three daughters, Mel Green lee (husband, Tom Tompkins) of Berkley, California; Patricia (husband, Charles R.) Boyce of Chatham, Illinois; and Betty Jo Smith of Jacksonville, Illinois. There are six grandchildren and one greatchild. Also, surviving, are one brother, Gerald (wife, Jeannine) Smith of Topeka, Kansas, and two sisters, Dorothy Donner and Mary (husband,Woodrow) Wilson, both of Tucson, Arizona.
Family will meet friends from 4pm to 7pm Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, Illinois, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. Funeral Services will be at 10am Thursday, January 10, 2002 at St. Sebastian Church in Waverly, Illinois. Burial will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery in Waverly, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad or Catholic Charities.
Mr. Harold D. Snyder
Harold D. Snyder, age 80, of White Hall, died Wednesday evening,
May 22, 2002 at his residence.
He was born July 20, 1921 in Eldred, the son of Pearl Ernest and
Gertrude M. Goldman Snyder.
He married Ferna Mae Pruiett on April 14, 1942 in St. Charles,
Missouri and she survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Sandra (husband, Don)
Williams of Modesto, Dixie (husband, John) Campbell of White Hall and
Alberta Snyder of Pocahantas; twelve grandchildren; nine great
grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one sister, Hazel Stewart of
White Hall. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Henry,
Albert, Robert and Junior Snyder and two sisters, Ethel McDade and Helen
Snyder.
Mr. Snyder worked at the White Hall Sewerpipe and Stoneware Co.
for 27 years, then worked at Williams Sawmills in Manchester and Scottville.
He retired in 1986. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in White
Hall for 45 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and working around the
house.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002 at
the Calvary Baptist Church in White Hall with burial at the Walkerville
Cemetery in Walkerville. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Memorials are

Mr. Leslie G. Sorrells
Leslie G. Sorrells, age 78, of Patterson, died early Monday morning, Dec. 23, 2002 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. He was born Aug. 31, 1924 in Scott County near Glasgow, the son of Leslie Guy and Alice Ruth Sherwin Sorrells. He married Ruth Mae Lovelace on Dec. 12, 1947 in Drake and she preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2000. He is survived by three sons, Dale E. (wife, Jane) Sorrells of Patterson; Dean E. (wife, Wanda) Sorrells of Lawton, Oklahoma and David E. (wife, Tina) Sorrells of Patterson; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Sorrells, Sue Sorrells, Samantha Sorrells, Sabrina Sorrells, Corey Masters and Nicole Masters. Les was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran. He owned and operated Sorrells Garage in Patterson for over 40 years. He drove a school bus for the Patterson School District and the North Green e School District for 37 years. He was an avid North Green e High School sports fan and enjoyed driving the bus to the events. The things he looked forward to the most were eating fish on Fridays at the Jones House, attending the country music shows in Patterson and going to Nashville North in Taylorville whenever he could. He was a trustee of the Pine Tree Cemetery Association for many years. He was very devoted to the operation and care of the cemetery and donated many hours helping people locate their loved ones in the cemetery. He was the chairman of the Patterson Picnic for several years and was the Patterson Town Clerk for many years. He was a member of the Wilmington Baptist Church in Patterson. He and his wife were very devoted to each other for over 52 years that they were married. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday with the family meeting friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Green e County Health Dept. Visiting Nurses.
Mr. Donald G. Spangenberg
Donald G. Spangenberg, age 64, of White Hall, died Monday
afternoon, Feb. 18, 2002 at the Royal Heights Care Center in Belleville.
He was born Jan. 5, 1938 in White Hall, the son of Harry and Lola E.
Young Spangenberg.
He is survived by two brothers, D.W. “Chick” Spangenberg of
Hillview and Earl K. “Tiny” Spangenberg of White Hall; one sister, Helen
Lorton of White Hall and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Spangenberg graduated from White Hall High School in 1956.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Mansfield from 1956 to 1960.
He worked at Search’s IGA in White Hall for several years, then worked for
the State of Illinois in Springfield for 26 years. He was an accomplished
pianist and enjoyed music. He also enjoyed the theater and opera and
attended often.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at
the White Hall Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the
donor’s choice. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in
charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lucille G. Spicer (Gardiner)
Lucille G. Spicer, age 89, of White Hall, died early Monday morning,
Feb. 4, 2002 at the Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in
Jerseyville.
She was born Dec. 8, 1912 in Magdalena, New Mexico, the daughter
of George William and Martha Hester Bell Gardiner.
She married Reuben Gilbert Spicer on June 6, 1937 in Alton and he
preceded her in death on June 20, 1988.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by five brothers and seven sisters.
Mrs. Spicer worked at the White Hall dress factory for 40 years,
retiring in 1975. She was a 1932 graduate of the White Hall High School.
She was a member of the White Hall United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002
at the White Hall Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall.
