Charles William Thomas
Charles William “Chod” Thomas, 86, of Jacksonville and formerly of Winchester passed away Tuesday morning (March 5, 2002) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born February 19, 1916 near Waverly the son of the late Virgil and Bessie Lemons Thomas.
He married Grace Bishop in Winchester March 25, 1933.
Mr. Thomas attended school in Scott County. He farmed in Scott County for 35 years and then worked for Oscar Mayer for 11 years, retiring in 1979. He and his wife did much traveling and camping with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Sandridge Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife Grace at home, 2 daughters Charlotte (husband Lindell) Mumford of Ft. Myers, Florida and Rosella (husband Raymond) Bass of Auburn, Alabama, and a son Lyndle (wife Carol Ann) Thomas of Ft. Valley, Virginia; 13 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. 2 brothers, Albert Thomas of Jacksonville and Billy Thomas of Griggsville as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and 4 sisters, a granddaughter and 2 grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday (March 9, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Betty Lou Thompson (Thorne)
Betty L. Thompson, 84, of Normal, and formerly of Jacksonville, died Sunday evening, June 30, 2002 at Martin Healthcare Center in Bloomington. She was born on June 14, 1918 in Jacksonville the daughter of Oather and Lou Myrtle Crabbe Thorne. She married Thomas Hardwick on January 22, 1939 in Jacksonville and he survives. She later married Max Thompson on July 29, 1961 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death in 1968.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (husband, David) Speers of Normal and Mary (husband, John) Thompson of Peachtree City, Georgia; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Thessel Bossarte (surviving husband Al of Jacksonville.)
Mrs. Thompson and her husband owned and operated Thompson Jewelers in Jacksonville for many years. She later worked at Duncan and Hoots Jewelers until her retirement. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed folk art and decorative painting, flowers, and reading.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Central Illinois.

Mr. John L. Thorndike
John Larkin Thorndike, 92, of Springfield died Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield. He was born November 18, 1909 in Frankfort, Kansas the son of Edmund Larkin and Laura Braner Thorndike. He is survived by one sister, Alice Klit of Carlisle, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Seth Thorndike, George Thorndike and Clyde Thorndike, and six sisters including Charlotte Gommels, Viola Larson and Mildred Greeley. Mr. Thorndike attended school and farmed in Humboldt, Iowa, where he had lived for many years. He had also farmed in the Chapin area. After leaving Chapin he resided in Jacksonville, Manchester and Springfield. He was a member of the Douglas Avenue Methodist Church in Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 16,2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. on Friday until the time of service.

Mrs. Lucille Ella Thursby (Weller)
Lucille Ella Thursby, 87, of Palmyra, passed away, Wednesday, August 4, 2002 at Heritage Manor in Carlinville, Illinois. She was born October 26, 1914 in Palmyra, the daughter of Andrew B. and Ella Mae Quarton Weller. She married Charles Edwin Thursby on December 18, 1935 in Palmyra, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2001. Lucille was a homemaker all of her life. She also, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palmyra. She is survived by 1 son; Howard Thursby of Palmyra; 1 daughter; Joyce (Donald) Hunt of Palmyra; 7 granchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; and 1 brother, Ralph Weller. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10am, September 7, 2002 at the Palmyra First Baptist Church. Family will meet friends from 5pm to 8pm, Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Northwestern Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Winifred Mae Tiffany (Slusser)
Winifred Mae Slusser Tiffany, 90, of Jacksonville and until recently a resident of Geneseo, died Monday afternoon, December 16, 2002, at Prairie Village Healthcare Center in Jacksonville. She was born on March 25, 1912, in Downers Grove, the daughter of Thomas Harry and Martha Downer Slusser. She married Albert J. Tiffany on April 28, 1934 in Norwood Park, and he preceded her in death on February 7, 1987. She is survived by two sons, Peter (wife, Linda) Tiffany of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee and David (wife, Wanda) Tiffany of Jacksonville; one daughter, Phyllis Tiffany of Richford, Vermont; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor Slusser Moxey of Sheridan, Wyoming; one brother, Richard Slusser of Boulder, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Slusser and Robert Slusser. Mrs. Tiffany attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Chicago. She was a homemaker who devoted her lifetime to working for world peace and supporting many organizations that worked for international understanding. She served as president of the Christian Peace Fellowship for many years as well as volunteering in her church and with her children’s activities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Geneseo. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private committal services will be held at North Cemetery in Geneseo. Mrs. Wilma Jeanette Timmons (Meiers)
Jeanette Timmons, 73, of Waverly, IL. died Saturday, November 30, 2002 in Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born June 12, 1929 in Waverly, IL a daughter of Frank and Louise Newberry Meiers. She married Stanley E. Timmons on February 5, 1949 in Waverly, and he survives. Also surviving are one son: Steve (wife Beverly) Timmons of Waverly; two daughters; Karen (husband Dick) Edwards of Visalia, California; Gail (husband Fred) Seymour of Waverly; one brother William (wife Judy) Meiers of Del Rio, Texas; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister; Marjorie Stewart (Surviving husband Maurice Stewart of Waverly) . She retired as a postal clerk with the U. S. Postal service. Following Cremation there will be a memorial service at a later date. Neece Funeral Home in Waverly is serving the family. Memorials are suggested to the Donors Chioce.

Mrs. Isabell A. Towers (Pruitt)
Isabell A. Towers, 66, of Jacksonville died Thursday morning, June 6, 2002 at Modern Care Convalescent Center in Jacksonville. She was born on December 24, 1935 in Walkerville the daughter of Jim and Laura Pence Pruitt. She married Richard Towers on February 27, 1960 at the Church of Our Saviour, and he survives.
Also surviving is one son, Kevin (wife, Alice) Towers of Bluffs, one daughter Tracy (husband, Jerry) Newingham of Woodson, 5 grandsons, her mother, Laura Pruitt of Jacksonville, two brothers, Bill (wife, Lucille) Pruitt of White Hall and Roy (wife, Frances) Pruitt of Melford, Delaware, and one sister, Rosemary (husband, Gilbert) Allensworth of Alton. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Lynn Pruitt.
Mrs. Towers graduated from White Hall High School and Passavant Hospital School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse. She was first employed at Passavant Area Hospital and then for the Visiting Nurses Association for 25 years. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday at 10a.m. at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Sunday with the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Routt Alumni Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Morris Eugene Tuey
Morris E. “Gene” Tuey, 74, of Eldred died at his residence at 1:40 P.M. on
Monday June 10, 2002.
Born in Carrollton on August 8, 1927 he was the son of the late Leo and
Lena Starkey Tuey.
On August 8, 1952 he married the former Betty Gilleland at Mt. Gilead
Church near Carrollton and she survives.
Also surviving are a son: Rick Tuey of Eldred, a granddaughter Nickie
Tuey, a sister : Betty (husband Tom) Maberry of Carrollton and a brother
Paul (wife Phyllis) Tuey of Bath, Ill. and a sister-in-law: Barb Tuey of
Carrollton. He was preceded in death by a brother James Tuey.
Mr. Tuey had worked as a crane mechanic for Laclede Steel in Alton for
29 years retiring in 1996. He was a Korean Conflict U.S. Army veteran and
a past longtime member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Thursday at 10
A.M. Burial will follow, with full military rites, at Borlin Cemetery
southwest of Carrollton near his farm. Memorials are mentioned to the
Green e Co. Health Dept.

Mr Earl (Chesty) William Turner
Earl William (Chesty) Turner 80, of Waverly, died Tuesday, October 8, 2002 inDoctors Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born October 2, 1922 in Auburn, IL a son of Herman and Myrtle Alice Miner Turner. He married Betty L. Mayes on August 8, 1947 in Jacksonville, IL and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Kenneth Earl (wife Ann) Turner of Waverly, two daughters: Bonnie Sue (husband Russ) Adams of Waverly, Patricia Lee (husband Steve) Turner of Modesto, IL, Two brothers: Herman E. Turner of Waverly, Clifford A. Turner of Loami, three sisters: Bernice Lyons of Waverly, Virginia Dodge of Waverly, Dorothy Handy of Waverly, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Walter H. Turner and three sisters Edna Chaudoin, Helen Carter, and Betty Turner in infancy. He was a machinist at Fiat-Allis in Springfield for thirty years, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War ll serving in the European African Theatre, and was a member and Past Commander of VFW Post # 4866 in Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, October 11, 2002 in Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Waverly Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Frances Irene Vannatta (Gebhardt)
Frances Irene Vannatta, age 87, of the Liberty Village in Pittsfield, Ill. and formerly of New Salem, Ill. died 7:55 a.m. Saturday (February 2, 2002) at Liberty Village.
She was born May 9, 1914 in Shipman, Ill. daughter of the late George and Ella Curless Gebhardt.
She married Otto Vannatta on August 14, 1933 in Baylis, Ill. and he preceded her in death on August 20, 1981.
Surviving is one daughter, Betty White and husband Cliff of Andover, Ill.; one son, Bill Vannatta and wife Elaine of St. Marys, Georgia; four grandchildren, Dan White and wife Karen of Mascoutah, Ill., David White and wife Kim of Osco, Ill., Mike Vannatta of Chesterton, Indiana, and Todd Vannatta and wife Carolee of Indianapolis, Indiana; ten great-grandchildren, Nick and Kayla White of Mascoutah, Ill., Michael, Mitchal, Marshal, and Thom White all of Osco, Ill, Carlie, Courtney, and Gunner Vannatta all of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dana Eastin and husband Kevin of Andover, Ill.; two great-great grandchildren, Bailey and Gage Eastin of Andover, Ill.; and one sister, Pauline Martin of Jacksonville, Ill..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one grandson, Brock Vannatta.
Mrs. Vannatta attended Baylis High School in Baylis, Ill. and for many years was a cook for the New Salem Grade School in New Salem, Ill. where her husband Otto taught school. She was a member of the New Salem United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women at the church and was also a member of the Pike County Home Extension. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing dominos with friends, going to The Pantry in Pittsfield, Ill. with her husband for coffee, and was a seamstress who made clothes for Robert Earl Hughs, who was known in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest man. She loved to quilt and made quilts for each one of her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (February 5, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Baylis Cemetery in Baylis, Ill.. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the New Salem United Methodist Church.

Dorothy E. Varble (Johnson)
Dorothy E. Varble, 89, of Carrollton died at 3:40 P.M. on Sunday Dec. 15, 2002 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. born in Fieldon on April 21, 1913 she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Morris Johnson. She married Oran Varble on July 28, 1928 in Carrollton and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1999. Surviving are 8 daughters: Anna Haneline of Carrollton, Catherine Vice of Carlinville, Betty Plogger of Carrollton, Dorothy Ray of Michigan, Margaret Varble Carrollton, Connie Bishop of Winchester, Ruth Loy of Medora, Bernice Kitson of Godfrey, 2 sons-Paul Varble of Jerseyville and Roger Varble of Carrollton, several grand, grea-grand and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Mary Goodall and a son Oran Eugene Varble and 3 brothers: Willis, Earl and Paul Johnson. She had worked for many years at Reisch Nursing Home retiring in 1975. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Carrollton. Visitation will be from 10 until service time at 11 A.M. on Thursday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Carrollton. Burial will follow in the Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of arrangements.

Vicki B. Vieira (Shandrow)
Vicki B. Vieira, 52, of Alsey, passed away early Tuesday morning (July 16, 2002) at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born December 11, 1949 in White Hall the daughter of Victor T. and Eva Sue Hosack Shandrow.
She married William R. Vieira April 18, 1970 at the Alsey Baptist Church.
Mrs. Vieira was a 1967 graduate of Winchester High School. She worked for Capps Clothing for several years and then for EMI for 28 years. She was a member of the Alsey Baptist Church and a proud grandma.
Survivors include her husband Bill Vieira at home, 2 daughters Tina Vieira (Mike McHugh) of Palmyra and Regina (Aaron) Patterson of Jacksonville. Her mother Eva Sue Shandrow of Alsey and her sister Bonita (Roy) Davidson of Winchester and a granddaughter Katherine McHugh.
Preceding her in death was her father Victor Shandrow in 1997.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday (July 19, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery near Alsey. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Winchester EMS or to the donors choice.

Mr. Paul Vincent
Paul Vincent, age 30, of Payson, Ill. and formerly of Hull, Ill. died Monday afternoon (March 11, 2002) near Hull, Ill.
He was born Nov. 1, 1971 in Hannibal, Mo. son of Paul and Ethel Stull Vincent, Sr.
He married Melissa Mosley June 16, 2001 in Payson, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is his mother Ethel Vincent of Hull, Ill.; two sisters, Holly Nelson and husband Matthew of Hannibal, Mo. and Kara Vincent of Hull, Ill.; three brothers, Seth Vincent and fiancée Lisa Flynn, Nathan Vincent and Johnny Vincent all of Hull, Ill.; maternal grandmother, Alma Stone of Hannibal, Mo.; two nieces, Shae Nelson and Shelby Nelson both of Hannibal, Mo.; several aunts and uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, Volum and Jean Vincent and maternal grandfather, John Stull; a maternal step-grandfather, Ivy Lloyd Stone.
Mr. Vincent graduated from West Pike High School near Kinderhook, Ill. in 1990 and attended John Wood Community from 1990 to 1992 and was a manufacturing engineer for Converter Concepts of Quincy, Ill. for several years. He was a member of Hull Masonic Lodge # 910 where he was past Master of the Lodge and was a past member of Quincy Valley Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Hull Lions Club where he was very active in the club. Paul loved volleyball, boating, golf, and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday (March 15, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery in Kinderhook, Ill. Visitation will be held 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Masonic Rites conducted at 8 p.m. by the Hull Masonic Lodge #910 A.F. & A.M. Memorials may be made to the family, Hull Lions Club or Hull Masonic Lodge #910 A.F. & A.M.

Mrs. Janis E. Walker (Lair)
Janis E. Walker, 47, of Jacksonville died Saturday morning, April 13, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on April 26, 1954 in Jacksonville the daughter of Roy and Betty Farmer Lair. She married Jerry L. Walker on June 24, 1972 at the Liter Baptist Church in Literberry and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Brad (wife, Melissa) Walker and Jeremy (fiancé Abby Luper) Walker, both of Jacksonville; one daughter, Angela Walker of Jacksonville; one grandson; her parents, Roy and Betty Lair of Ashland; and one brother, Dale (wife, Jeri Jo) Lair of Ashland.
Mrs. Walker was Head Teller and Customer Service Representative at the Farmers State Bank, West Morton Facility in Jacksonville. She was previously employed as church secretary at Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Mrs. Walker enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family, especially her new grandson. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she was a Bible Study leader.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2002 at Centenary United Methodist Church with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 12 noon on Sunday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m.; and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.

Caroline Jean Wallace (Hayes)
Caroline Jean “Carol” Wallace, 61, of Jacksonville passed away Monday afternoon (April 15, 2002) at St. Johns Hospital North in Springfield.
She was born January 3, 1941 in Jacksonville the daughter of Leroy and Hazel Daniels Hayes.
She married Randall Wallace March 30, 1957 in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Wallace attended Jacksonville schools. She was a homemaker and had worked at Capps Clothing, Mobil Chemical and Merrigans Restaurant. She had been a member of the Eagles Women's Club and attended the Salvation Army.
She loved the time she spent with her family; she also enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband Randy Wallace at home, 4 daughters Mary Jean (husband David) Mumford of Jacksonville, Elizabeth Ann (husband Keith) Coats of Kampsville, Karen Sue (husband Richard) Beach of Murrayville and Jodi Michelle (husband Trevor) Lessman of Springfield. 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. 4 brothers Leroy Hayes Jr. of Hobart, Indiana, Fred Hayes and Ed Hayes both of Jacksonville, and Clyde Hayes of Austin, Texas.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her stepmother Sadie Hayes, and 2 sisters Frances Bridgeman and Eva Mae Weems.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mr. Joe Walters
Joe Walters, age 69, of Griggsville, Ill. and formerly of Baylis and New Canton, Ill. died early Sunday (December 15, 2002) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill.. He was born February 12, 1933 in Casey, Ill. son of the late Jeff and Goldie Jacobs Walters. He married Janice Dolbeare on August 21, 1965 in Hannibal, Mo. and she survives. Also surviving one daughter, Julie Hobson and husband Brandon of Griggsville, Ill.; two sons, Jerry Walters and wife Laurie of Griggsville, Ill. and Jeff Walters and wife Renna of Clarksville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Justin, Jessie, Alyssa Walters all of Griggsville,Ill. Levi, and Abby Walters of Clarksville, Tenn., Jerica Walters, Traye Labby, and Laken Labby of Griggsville, Ill. ; two sisters, Maxine Walters of Casey, Ill. and Jean Webster and husband Morris of Mattoon, Ill.; five brothers, John Walters of Casey, Ill., Jeff Walters, Jr. wife Delores and Bill Walters and wife Dorothy all of Springfield, Ill., Dean Walters and wife Myrna of Martinsville, Ill., and twin brother Jerry Walters and wife Karen of Trilla, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Eileen Ramsey, Sylvia Walters, Wilma Geisler, Fern Mellik, Ali McNarey ; three brothers, Roy Walters, Bub Walters, and Howard Walters. Mr. Walters was a graduate of Casey High School in Casey, Ill. and was an engineer for Engineer’s Union Local #965 in Springfied, Ill. for many years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed softball, baseball, football and high school wrestling and was named Saukee of the Year by the Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, Ill. for the 1992-1993 season. Joe enjoyed visiting with family and friends and enjoyed his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday (December 20, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Br. Bill Smith officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery near New Salem, Ill. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mrs. Lucille Barnhart Walton
Lucille Barnhart Walton, 93, of South Jacksonville, died Wednesday evening, September 25, 2002 at Jacksonville Convalescent Center. She was born on September 7, 1909 in Jacksonville, the daughter of George and Sarah Winter Barnhart. She married Junius Walton in July of 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by two cousins, Lorena McDaniel and Mabel Howard, both of Jacksonville, and three nieces. Mrs. Walton had worked at Waddell’s and owned and operated the Brother and Sister Shop in Jacksonville. Graveside services will be held at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Helen Lorene Waltrip (Reavis)
Helen Lorene Waltrip, age 91, of Roodhouse, died early Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born Sept. 11, 1911 in Wrights, the daughter of Frank and Ruth Rhodes Reavis. She married Wilmer R. Waltrip on June 12, 1937 in Carlinville and he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1971. She is survived by one son, Edward (wife, Donna) Waltrip of Roodhouse; two grandchildren, Christy Lynn Shaner of Roodhouse, who was raised in her home and Michael L. Waltrip of Roodhouse; and three great grandchildren, Breelyn Waltrip-Davis, Matthew Elmer and Joshua Waltrip. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith K. Shaner and one brother, Delbert Reavis. Mrs. Waltrip worked in the dietary department of the Jacksonville State Hospital for many years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Hillview Royal Neighbors of America. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse is in charge of arrangements.

Mr James Edward Watts
James Edward Watts age 78, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2002 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois. He was born in Beardstown, Illinois on October 24, 1923, the son of Perry Otis and Louella Rae Swift Watts.
He graduated from Beardstown High School in 1941. On April 19, 1943 he enlisted in the Air Force. He became a Prisoner of War on June 1944, and was discharged October 26, 1945. He later returned to military service during the Korean War. He was employed by the United States Goverment from December 1957 to December 1983, as a city mail carrier in Waverly, Illinois. He was a member of the Waverly American Legion Post # 262, Waverly VFW Post # 4866, and the Waverly First Baptist Church.
He married Norma Jean Gooden in Waverly, Illinois on November 27, 1949, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 children, Sue (husband, Mike) Hartman of Jacksonville, Illinois and James Lee (wife, Rhonda) Watts of Waverly, Illinois; 5 grandchildren; Doug and Nick Watts of Waverly, Illinois; David, Doug, and Danny Hartman of Jacksonville, Illinois; 2 sisters; Helen Irene Watts Davis of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and Maxine Elizabeth "Betty" (husband, Harold) Watts Shekelton of Waverly, Illinois.
Services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at 10:30am at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, Illinois. Friends may call Monday, February 25, 2002 after 3pm, with family meeting friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly First Baptist Church Building Fund, and the Waverly Rescue Squad.
James was preceeded in death by his parents; 1 brothers, William Otis Watts ; and 1 sister, Thelma Iona Roe.
