Carroll, James B.

Services for James B. Carroll, of Nokomis, were held at 10 this morning in St. Mark's Lutheran Church there with the Rev. Mary Etta Skinner officiating. Burial was in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Mr. Carroll died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 75 years old on September 1. He was a heavy equipment operator before he retired, member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and an Army veteran. He was born in Audubon Township, a son of Carmen and Iola Craig Carroll. His wife, the former Louise Storm, survives. Surviving also are daughters, Martha Rosenberger and husband Meridith of Ramsey, Laura Harrison and husband Allen of Fillmore; brothers, Russell Carroll of Illiopolis, Charles A. Carroll of Nokomis, Rex Carroll of Ramsey, Ed Carroll of New Albany, Ind., Lynn Carroll of Nokomis; sisters, Ruth Handley of Decatur, Lawanda Anderson, MaryAnn Carroll, Sandy Gaskin, all of Nokomis; and five grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a brother, Cecil Carroll and a sister, Imogene Foster .

Carroll, Laura A.

Services for Laura Alice Carroll, of Nokomis, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home there with Kenny Morell officiating. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Mrs. Carroll died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, July 5, 1999, in her home. She was 79 years old on August 14. She was a member of the Pentacost Church. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Andrew and Maggie Fout Jackson. Her husband, Harry "Shorty" Carroll, died December 15, 1986. Surviving are sisters, Goldie Stokes, Maggie Bell Hicks, Loretta Virden, Rosella Michael, all of Nokomis; a brother, William Jackson of Nokomis; grandchild, Laura Davis of Nokomis and great grandchildren, Benjamin Skinner, Scott Fleming and Thomas Davis, Jr. Preceding her in death was one child, Pearl Skinner on March 5, 1990; sisters, Verna Burd, Elsie Delahunt, Alta Fabry, Edna Lovegrove, Lovie Caulk and two others in infancy; and a grandchild, Rusty Skinner.

Carroll, Shirley Rae

Shirley Rae Carroll, formerly of Gillespie, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, September 25, 1998, in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was 68 years old last November 25. She was a teacher in elementary schools for 20 years before retiring. She taught in schools in Hawaii, Japan and Traceyton, Wash. Besides residing in Gillespie, she also resided in Bremerton, Wash. and Winchester, Ky. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gillespie and the Order of the Eastern Star in Washington. She was a 1948 graduate of Gillespie High School. She was born in St. Louis County, a daughter of Emery H. and Areta H. Gould Martin. She married Joseph D. Carroll on October 22, 1948, in Kentucky. He died August 20, 1998. Surviving are her mother, Areta and a brother, Gene Martin, both of Urbana. Private services were held in Urbana. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 2001 South Lindbergh boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63131 Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Areta Martin, 1502 East Florida avenue, Apartment 334, Urbana, IL 61801.

Carter, Wayne F.

Services for Wayne F. Carter, of Coalton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Stiehl©Dawson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Full military rites will be conducted. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Carter died at 2 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 1998, in Golden Manor Nursing Home, Nokomis. He was 82 years old last January 2, and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a machinist before he retired, and a member of the Coalton Baptist Church. He was born in Macon, a son of Elmer and Amanda Henry Carter, and was married four times. Three of his former wives are deceased. Surviving is his fourth wife, the former Waneta Stephens. Also surviving are sons, Wayne A. Carter of Oregon, Dwight Carter, Monty Binker, Randy Elliot, all of California, Dennis and Steve Elliot of Florida; daughters, Patricia C. Robinson and Dorothy C. Gardner, both of California; brother, Clyde Carter of Sullivan; sisters, Fern C. Hill of Nokomis, Clemma C. Young of Jerseyville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Judy C. Goodsell and a son, David Carter; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Case, Charles D.

Charles D. Case, formerly of Litchfield, died Wednesday, December 22, 1999, in Decatur Memorial Hospital. A resident of Decatur, he was 81 years old on March 23. He retired as a major from the U.S. Air Force and was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association. He worked for Taystee Baking Company for 37 years. He held memberships in several organizations including the Elks, the American LEgion, the Moose and the Eagles. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Charles D. and Jessie Turner Case. He married Mary Ann Gordon on July 20, 1939, in Clinton. She survives. Surviving also is a son, Richard W. Case of Decatur. Two sisters preceded him in death. Memorial service is planned at a later date with Brintlinger's Funeral Home in Decatur in charge.

Casebier, Ben

Ben Casebier, who has several relatives in the area, died at 3 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 1998, in Parkview Memorial Hospital at Fort Wayne, Ind., after becoming ill while attending an antique car auction. He was 72 years old on January 9, and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. His wife, the former Juanita Armentrout, is a native of Witt. The couple resided in rural Canton, Mo. where he farmed and was an avid collector of antique cars and John Deere tractors. He was born in Grayville, a son of Ben, Sr., and Essie Harris Casebier. He and his wife were married April 1, 1963, in Springfield. Surviving besides his wife are a brother, Sid Casebier of rural Canton and his children, Jeff and Charles Casebier and Nancy Berhorst, also of Canton. Juanita Armentrout is a sister of Lavonne Armentrout Clayton and Imogene Armentrout Durbin of Witt. Other relatives in the area residents are nieces and nephews. They include, Kenneth and Lester Clayton of Irving, Merle and Jim Clayton of Harvel, Gail Clayton Kessler, Kim Durbin and Roger Durbin of Witt, Roger Durbin of Witt and Janice Clayton Volentine of Litchfield.

Caudle, Jr., Claude

Services for Claude Caudle, Jr., of Farmersville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hough Memorial Home there with the Rev. Jerry Divjak officiating. Burial will be in Macoupin Creek Cemetery at Farmersville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Farmersville - Waggoner Fire Department. Mr. Caudle died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 1999, in Litchfield Health Care Center. He was 69 years old on June 11. He was self-employed as a laborer. He was a member of the Farmersville Methodist Church, the Farmersville - Waggoner Fire Department and involved in many other community organizations. He was born in Carlinville, a son of Claude Ottis and Jenny Pratt Caudle. He married Pearl Irene Seaton of Atwater on June 13, 1948, in Carlinville. Twenty-five years later their marriage ended. He married Dorothy Allgood of Farmersville in 1975 and their marriage ended in 1987. Both survive. Surviving also are sons, Ottis Eugene Caudle, Sr., of Collinsville, Leroy Caudle, Sr. of Waggoner, Donald Caudle of Litchfield, Glenn Caudle of Licking, Mo.; daughters, Becky Starkey of Waggoner, Brenda Crays of Girard; step son, Danny Allgood of Farmersville; brother, Ernie Caudle of Carlinville; sisters, Ruby Jones and Virginia Proctor, both of Carlinville; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were three brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Caulk, Lillian E.

Services for Lillian E. Caulk, mother of Carl E. Huber and sister of Bernice Towell, both of Sorento, were held Thursday morning in Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home, Green ville. Burial was in Brown Cemetery. Mrs. Caulk, of Green ville, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, May 31, 1999, in Fair Oaks Nursing Home there. She was 83 years old on May 18. She was employed for 21 years in the nursing profession before retiring in 1991. She received L.P.N. training at the Idaho State University V.O. Tech and worked at St. Anthony's Hospital and then at Fair Oaks Nursing Home. She was born in Old Ripley, a daughter of T. Harley and Martha B. Clanton Tipsword. She married Clyde M. Huber on July 14, 1935; they had two children and were later divorced. She married Raymond C. Caulk in 1955; he died in April 1993. Surviving besides the son and sister are a daughter, Elaine Branscome of Green ville; brothers, Julius Tipsword of Highland, Thomas Tipsword of rural Old Ripley; sisters, Lucinda Landolt of Breese, Shirley Tipsword of rural Old Ripley; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, Harley Tipsword and sisters, Julie Ann in childhood, Mayme Traub and Charlene Frueh.

Caulk, Rose K.

Funeral arrangements for Rose K. Caulk, of Schram City, are pending in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro. Mrs. Caulk, died at 6:38 a.m. today in Hillsboro Hospital. Services for Rose K. Caulk, of Schram City, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Kenneth Sandlin, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Irving Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Association, 923 West Jefferson street, Springfield, or to St. Paul's church, of which she was a member. Mrs. Caulk died at 6:38 a.m. Monday, October 5, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 80 years old last October 17. She spent most of her life in Schram City and worked as a clerk at Sherman's Department Store in Hillsboro, for approximately seven years and as a waitress at Canton Inn for approximately seven years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was born in Genld, a daughter of Lorenzo and Ritta Bachetti Reck. She married Lynn Caulk on January 31, 1948, in the Lutheran Church at Irving. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Roger Caulk of Oceanside, Calif.; daughters, Penny Hall and husband Mike of Rochester, Rose Ann Wyatt and husband David of Springfield; brothers, Geno Reck of Peoria, Virgil and William J. Reck, both of Schram City; a sister, Clara "Dolly" Clinard and husband Charles of Schram City; six grandchildren, Becky, Julie, Stacia and Aaron Thompson of Ocenside, Dereck Wyatt of Texas, Jason Hall of Chicago; and one great grandchild, Jeremy Thompson of Oceanside. A sister, Ida Reck, preceded her in death.

Cavallo, John P.

Private funeral services were held for John P. Cavallo, formerly of Litchfield, with Stabb Funeral Home, Springfield, in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Cavallo, of Chatham, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 85 years old on September 30. He was a tool and die maker employed by Sangamo Electric from 1951 to 1978. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Chalres and Minnie Cavallo. His wife, the former Jo Ann Cambruzzi, survives. Surviving also is a daughter, Angela, wife of Dick Best of Chatham.

Cawthon, Francis W.

Services for Francis W. "Frank" Cawthon, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Wallace, interim pastor of the Litchfield Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Mr. Cawthon, of Collinsville, died at 4:05 this morning, Thursday, March 11, 1999, in Collinsville Care Center. He was 81 years old on October 31. He was a resident of Litchfield for 50 years and moved to Collinsville in 1998. He was a foreman with the Brown Shoe Company here for 21 years and also worked at St. Francis Hospital in Enviornmental Services for 15 years. He retired from the hospital on March 26, 1988. He had also worked in sales for the Jewel Tea Company. He was a member of the Litchfield Assembly of God where he served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and deacon. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his youth he was a pitcher for the Brown Shoe Company softball team. He was born in Hannibal, Mo., a son of Elmer and Mary Willey Cawthon. He married Dorothy Josephine Lanhum on April 12, 1941, in Pittsfield. She survives. Surviving also are sons, David A. Cawthon and wife Diane of Sullivan, Philip L. Cawthon and wife Darlene of Collinsville; a brother, Edward Cawthon and wife Dorothy of Opelika, Ala.; grandchildren, David L. Cawthon and wife Ami of Bethany, Douglas Cawthon and wife Gretchen, Desiree Powell and husband Wayne, Drew Cawthon, all of Sullivan; and great grandaughters, Katie Cawthon, Emily and Allison Powell, all of Sullivan. Services for Francis W. "Frank" Cawthon, formerly of Litchfield, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Wendell Hall of Pittsfield was the honorary pallbearer. Mr. Cawthon, 81 of Collinsville, died Thursday, March 11, in the Collinsville Care Center.

Cerar, Joseph P.

Funeral Masses for Joseph P. Cerar will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Agnes Church by the Rev. Father Patrick Wright. The cremains will be interred at 11 a.m. Friday in Carlinville City Cemetery and 1 p.m. Friday in Calvary Cemetery at Nokomis. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in Staab Funeral Home, Springfield. Prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children or to Catholic Charities. Mr. Cerar, of Springfield, died at 8 p.m. Monday, November 2, 1998, in Sunshine Manor at Carlinville. He was 82 years old on January 28. He had resided in Springfield since 1955 after becoming a senior officer at Capital (Magna) Bank. In 1967, he joined the State Bank of Virden, retiring in 1980 as executive vice president and chairman of the board. He was also treasurer for the city of Carlinville for many years, Macoupin County chairman of the Young Democrats organization, past president of the Sangamon Menard and Montgomery Bankers Association. In addition, he was a member of the 25 Associates Club which was the founding group for the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind, organized the Lions Club and the Moose Club in Carlinville, past exalted ruler and past president of the BPOE 1412, past president of the Lions Club of Carlinville, past county chairman of the Red Cross Blood Bank, Salvation Army, Cosmopolitan Club, past treasurer of the Polio Fund, Golden Gloves Boxing Association. He was born in Roanoke, a son of Joseph and Isabelle Thubron Cerar. He married Anne D. Jaros in 1960. She died on March 17, 1987. Surviving are a brother, David Cerar and wife Magdalene. Others surviving include nieces and nephew, June Lowder of Sprngfield, Kathryn Fanning of Carlinville and Jon Cerar of Carlinville and their children.

Cerentano, James J.

Funeral Mass for James J. Cerentano, Jr., of Staunton, will be said at noon Friday in St. Michael's Catholic Church there by the Rev. Father George Radosevich. Burial will be in Union Miners Cemetery, Mt. Olive. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Michael's Church. Mr. Cerentano died at 7:25 p.m. Monday, June 21, 1999, in the family home in Staunton. He was 68 years old on September 4, and a Navy veteran. He was a storeroom foreman at Olin Corporation in East Alton, having worked for the company for 45 years, and a member of St. Michael's Church and Staunton VFW Post 1241. He was born in Staunton, a son of James J. and Martha R. Haenel Cerentano. He married Patsy Spears on February 17, 1962, in Hillsboro. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Tony Cerentano of Staunton, Brian Cerentano of Marquette; a daughter, Cindy Cerentano of Staunton; sisters, Josephine Nimmo of Sun City Center, Fla., Mary Ann Kozak of Benld; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a brother, Anthony Cerentano.

Cesaretti, Peter L.

Services for Peter L. Cesaretti, of Nokomis, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Coalton Baptist Church with the Rev. Dallas White officiating. Burial was in Nokomis Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Stiehl © Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis. Mr. Cesaretti died at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1999, in his home. He would have been 80 years old on January 9, and was a Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre. He worked as a coal miner before he retired, and was a member of the Coalton Baptist Church and the Nokomis Sportsmans Club. He was born in Kincaid, a son of Carlo and Erma Burrchi Cesaretti. Surviving are his wife,. the former Helen Pearse; a daughter, Karen Forbes and husband Steve of Dalton City; a son, Pete L. Cesaretti of Nokomis; sister, Rose Langen and husband Gerald of Raymond; brother, Louis Cesaretti of Nokomis; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Chapman, Russell Eugene

Services for Russell Eugene Chapman, of Benld, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Kravanya Funeral Home there. Burial will be in Benld City Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 4547, Gillespie. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mr. Chapman died at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 1998, in his home. He was 74 years old on April 16, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a machine operator at Olin Brass Mill in East Alton before he retired. He was born in Woodville in Green e County, a son of willis and Addie McClellan Chapman. He married Esther R. Sprowel on may 15, 1948. She died December 22, 1994. Surviving are sons, Ray Eugene and Russell D. Chapman, both of Benld, Jimmie R. Chapman of Brighton; step son, John Davis of Gillespie; brothers, John Chapman of Carrollton, Willis Chapman of Godfrey, Virgil Chapman of Kane; sisters, Della Shaw of Eldred, Ethel Jackson of Clinton, Ky.; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are brothers, Orville, Vernon, William, Glen and Harvey Chapman and a sister, Rosie Flatt.

Chappelear, Troy Michael

Private family services for Troy Michael Chappelear, the infant son of Justin J. Chappelear of Hillsboro and Jill M. Chambers of Donnellson, will be held Thursday in Bass Funeral Home with the Rev. Darryl Bolen, pastor of the First Christian Church of Green ville, officiating. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery in rural Hillsboro. The baby was dead at birth on December 23, 1998, in Springfield. Surviving besides the parents are maternal grandparents, Greg Chambers and Kim Price , both of Donnellson; paternal grandparents, John Chappelear and Peggy Chappelear, both of Hillsboro; great grandparents, Bob and Virginia Klump, Rex and Verda Chappelear, all of Hillsboro, Phyllis Chambers of Varna, Norvil and Carol Herrin of Chillacothe; great great grandparents, Ila Becker of Litchfield; Juanita Klump of Hillsboro. Preceding him in death are his great grandfather, George Chambers and an uncle, Jeremy Chappelear.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Girard Rescue Squad. Mr. Charles died at 10:0a4 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 66 years old on March 1, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. A contractor, he owned and operated C&F Home Improvement in Springfield for 42 years. He was also a member and past president of the Springfield Home Builders Association. He was born in Auburn, a son of Mario "Tye" and Clementine Charles Tomazzoli. He married Theresa A. "Terri" Lycans on June 26, 1982, in Riverton. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Kristopher R. Charles of Witt; daughters, Kissindra M. Moore and husband Bill of Virden, Beverly J. Charles of Springfield, Dolly M. Gresham and husband Gary of Auburn; brothers, Paul Charles and wife Connie of Murray, Idaho, Ben Charles and wife Jean of Lake Station, Ind., Paul Tomazzoli and wife Barb of Hillsboro, Butch Miller and wife Karen of Springfield, David Miller and wife Deb of Ashland, Richard Tomazzoli and wife Linda of Hillsboro; a sister, Mary C. Tomazzoli of Hillsboro; grandsons, Brock Moore of Virden, Sean Charles of Springfield; Gary Gresham with the U.S. Marine Corps. Services for Leon Charles, of Nokomis, were held at 9:30 this morning in St. Louis Catholic Church there. The Rev. Father Pat Jakel officiated. Burial was in Virden Cemetery. Mr. Charles died at 4:40 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 1998, in Elmwood Nursing Center, Maryville. He was 89 years old on July 28. He was a coal miner, member of the United Mine Workers of American, St. Louis Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was born in Auburn, a son of August and Mary Seznzy Charles. He first married Valia Lorenzi on September 2, 1933. She died October 1, 1973. He then married Mary Milner on October 12, 1974. She survives. Surviving also are sons, James Charles and wife Carolyn of Moline, Joseph Charles and wife Pat of Virden; a daughter Loretta Cassidy and husband Bill of Nokomis; brothers, Paul Charles of Utah, Ben Charles of Indiana and Clement Charles of Auburn; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were seven brothers and sisters, Mary Lorian, Josephine Charles, August Charles, Oscar Charles, Jule Charles, Clementine Miller and Dolly Dixon; and one grandchild.

Charles, Victor Howell

Victor Howell Charles, of Coffeen, died at 5:35 p.m. Friday, August 21, 1998 in his home. He was 78 years old. Toberman Funeral Home, Coffeen, was in charge of local arrangements. Funeral services were to be held in Corydon, Ind.

Chase, Dr. Charles Amos

Graveside service for Dr. Charles Amos Chase, of Hillsboro, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Ferguson, of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, officiating. Family and friends will gather at 9:45 a.m. at Bass Funeral Home to proceed to the cemetery. No visitation is planned. The family suggests memorials be directed to Hillsboro Hospital. Dr. Chase died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, July 17, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Centralia. He was 96 years old on September 23. He practiced osteopathic medicine in Hillsboro from 1927 until he retired in 1980. He was a member, trustee, deacon and elder in the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, past member of the Hillsboro board of education, the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club, and a life long member of the American Osteopathic Association. A son of Charles Amos and Emma Ferguson Chase, he was born in Kingston, New Hampshire, four months after his father's death. At the age of one year, his mother brought him to the Midwest where her family was living. He was reared in the Walshville and Hillsboro communities and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1920. He graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathy in May 1927. On July 9, that year, he and his high school classmate, Jo Frances Tiffin, were married. She died September 26, 1975. Surviving are a son, Charles A. Chase and wife Katie of Kerville, Texas; daughter, Jo Lucile Gibson and husband Richard of Centralia; five grandchildren, Charles Amos Chase, Rebecca Susan Chase Lohr, Steven Eric Chase, Amy Jo Gibson Beach and Richard Alan Gibson; and three great grandchildren, Samantha Chase Lohr, John Robert Lohr, Jr., and Leslie Marie Chase.

Chausse, Gerald

Funeral Mass for Gerald Chausse, of rural Nokomis, will be said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis, by the Rev. Fathers Pat Jakel and John Burnett. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Stiehl©Dawson Funeral Home. Prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Chausse, 58 years old last October 4, died Wednesday morning, July 8, 1998, in an accident while unloading grain at the Route 16 grain elevator in Nokomis. He was declared dead at 8:59 a.m. in Hillsboro Hospital. He was a farmer and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. He coached the St. Louis Catholic School basketball team for 10 years and the Nokomis Little League for eight years. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Donald and Mildred Boehler Chausse. He married Diana Downs on November 28, 1964. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Michael Chausse and wife Kris of Aledo, Brian Chausse and wife Lora of Nokomis, Scott Chausse and wife Tina of Arenzville; mother, Mildred Chausse of Nokomis; sisters, Jeanene Dahler and husband Marion of Nokomis, Jeanette Trost and husband Loren of Hillsboro, Sister Ruth Chausse, S.S.N.D., of Salem, Mary Schafer and husband Ed of Springfield, Patricia Garrett and husband Bill of Owaneco; a brother, Donald Chausse of Waterloo; and three grandchildren. His father, Donald, preceded him in death.

Cheesman, Myrtle E.

Services for Myrtle E. Kumpel Cheesman, formerly of Hillsboro, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Father David Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro. Mrs. Cheesman died at 3:13 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in Alton Memorial Hospital. She was 92 years old on February 9. She resided in Hillsboro for 45 years before moving to California in 1970. She returned to Alton to be near family. She was a member of St. Agnes Church. She was born in Tennessee, a daughter of Marshall and Cornie Lawson. Her first husband, Alfred Kumpel, whom she wed in 1926 in Hillsboro, died February 4, 1964. In 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada, she married Harold Cheesman. He died in 1987. Surviving are son, Wallace Kumpel of Alton, Alfred William Kumpel Jr. and wife Donna of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Jo Ann Perkins and husband Neal of Modesto, Calif.; sister Nancy Emvrey of Alton; brother, Arthur Lawson of Donnellson; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Curley and Ernie Lawson; sisters, Ethel Barnett, Alice Richardson, Patricia Negosahian and Daisey; and one grandchild.

Chesley, Elsie M.

Services for Elsie M. Chesley, formerly of Litchfield, were held at 10 this morning in Meinschein Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Revisky of the Christian Church of Litchfield officiated. Burial was in Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Salvation Army. Mrs. Chesley died at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 1999, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. She was 93 years old on May 20. She was born in St. Louis, a daughter of William and Margaret Hollingworth Ellsworth. Her first husband, Henry E. Stevens, died in 1962. Her second husband, Edward Jarman, preceded here in death in 1973. She married Leo Chesley on October 9, 1976, in Butler and he died August 10, 1998. Surviving are sons, Edwin Stevens and wife Onnalee of Avon; sisters, Parl Kampton of Granite City, Ethel Grammer of Litchfield; four grandchildren and one great grandson. Preceding her in death were brothers, Charles and William Ellsworth; a sister, Ardella Kellams; and a great grandson, Paul Stevens. Services for Elsie M. Chesley, formerly of Litchfield, were held at 10 a.m. Monday in Meinschein Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Revisky officiated with Irene Graden as organist. Burial was in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Mrs. Chesley, 93, died Saturday, August 14, in Staunton Memorial Hospital.

Chesley, Leo C.

Funeral arrangements for Leo C. Chesley, of Mt. Olive and formerly of Litchfield, are pending at Meinschein Funeral Home, Litchfield. Mr. Chesley, 83, died at 5:07 a.m. this morning, Monday, August 10, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Granite City. Services for Leo C. Chesley, of Mt. Olive and formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Meinschein Funeral Home with the Steve Revisky, of the Christian Church of Litchfield, officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Friends may call on Wednesday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Salvation Army. Mr. Chesley died at 5:07 a.m. Monday, August 10, 1998, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Granite City. He was 83 years old on February 3 and was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as kitchen help at Scott Air Force Base for 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion at Mascoutah and enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and traveling. He was born in Joplin, Mo., a son of Frank and Samantha Ramsey Chesley. His first wife, Emma Chesley, died December 11, 1970. He married Elsie Jarman on October 9, 1976, in Butler. She survives in Staunton. Surviving also is a step son, Edwin Stevens of Avon. Preceding him in death were two half brothers and a half sister. Services for Leo Craig Chesley, of Mt. Olive and formerly of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Meinschein Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Revisky officiating. Burial was in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Musical selections played during the service were "Amazing Grace" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Irene Graden was the organist. Mr. Chesley, 83, died Monday, August 10, in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Granite City.

Chesser, Jewel E.

Services for Jewel Estelle Chesser, of Hillsboro, were held at 10 this morning in Bass Funeral Home there. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Chesser died at 6 p.m. Friday, November 5, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was 81 years old on July 13. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Hillsboro, the Senior Citizens Club and a volunteer with the Senior Citizens. She also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Jefferson Barracks Hospital for many years. She was born in Anna, a daughter of Alfred M. and Ethel Settlemoir Young. She married Carl W. Chesser on March 26, 1934, in Green ville. He survives. Surviving also are a sons, Carl E."Gene" Chesser and wife Jessie of Hillsboro, William A. Chesser and wife Barbara of Springfield; 11 grandchildren, Betty Earp of Ft. Smith, Ark., Becky Quigley, Cecilia Storbeck, Carla Issert of Wilmington, Donna Chesser of Hillsboro, Michael Chesser, Judy Chesser, Joan Eddy of Rocklin, Calif., Laura Goelling of Percy, Paula Chesser of Ava, Jenny Goldstein of Springfield; and 14 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were sisters, Naomi Young and one in infancy; a granddaughter, Diana Chesser and six great grandchildren.

Childers, Irene K.

Irene K. Childers, formerly of Coffeen, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in Culbertson Memorial Hospital, Rushville. She was 98 years old on July 17. Mrs. Childers resided in Lewistown where she was a correspondent and columnist for the Fulton Democrat for many years. She played the piano and had a band, Irene and Her Sugar Plums. She was born in Coffeen, a daughter of William F. and Ida Edwards Blackwood. Her first husband, Clifford Moorhouse, preceded her in death. She later married Rollie Childers, who also preceded her in death. One brother and four sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are two nephews. Services were held Thursday in the Lewistown Methodist Church. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
