Services for Harold Cordray, formerly of the Hillsboro area, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Wilson Park Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Ken Lovely officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at noon. Mr. Cordray, of Bradenton, Fla., died Thursday, December 10, 1998, in his home. He was 56 years old. He was a truck driver for many years, a Navy veteran and a member of the Panama VFW Post. He was born in Springfield, a son of Thurlow Benton and Doris Iona Smith Cordray. Surivivng are daughters, Barbara Smith of St. Ann, Mo., Donna Maginnis of Hillsboro, Ohio, Brenda Henke of Hillsboro; a son, Darrel Cordray of Pinckneyville; his mother, Doris Shirley of Girard; a brother, James Cordray of Girard; and two grandchildren. His father, Thurlow, preceded him in death.
Cordum, Edwin H.
Edwin H. Cordum, formerly of the Gillespie area, died Tuesday, October 19, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Carlinville. He was 80 years old on January 2, 1999. He was a truck driver for many years and also worked with his father in the family sawmill. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville. He was born near Gillespie, a son of Edward and Johanna Sies Cordum. Surviving are a sister, Ruth Siefert of Virden. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Heinz Funeral Home, Carlinville. Burial will be in Mayfield Memorial Park.
Cossel, Delmar Edwin
Services for Delmar Edwin Cossel, formerly of Hillsboro, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bass Funeral Home there with the Rev. Arthur Heinz, of Murray, Ky., officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1306, Taylor Springs. Friends may call on Wednesday in the funeral home from noon until the time of service. Mr. Cossel died Sunday, May 24, 1998, in his home in St. Louis. He was 86 years old last June 11, and an Army veteran of World War II. He had resided in the St. Louis since approximately 1933 and worked as a driver for Be Mac Trucking. He was a member of the Horse Club. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Edward and Bessie Eleanor Trusdale Cossel. His wife was the former Dorothy Mae Kennedy. Surviving are daughters, Doris Heinz of Marion, Peggy Grega of Virginia Beach, Va., Ruth Brower of California, Ginger Flint of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; brothers, Marion Cossel of Missouri, Virgil Cossel of Illinois; sisters, Marie Terry of Silex, Mo., Virginia Martin of Patton, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two children; brothers, Elbert, Delford and William L. Cossel and twins, Melvin and Nellie Cossel.
Costello, Joseph A.
Services for Joseph A. "Tony" Costello, of Carlinville, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Davis © Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, with the jRev. Dean Porbst officiating. Entombment will be in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 554. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Carlinville Food Pantry. Mr. Costello died at 11:25 a.m. Sunday, November 15, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 70 years old on June 13, and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving there from 1952 to 1954. He spent his life in farming on the family farm. He was a former road commissioner in Polk Township. He was a member of the Guy BAird American Legion Post 54 of Carlinville, and SS. Mary's and Joseph's Catholic Church in Carlinville. He was born in Carlinville, a son of Joseph Lawrence and Lena Koster Costello. He married Wanita "Sally" Lumpkin on November 8, 1958, in St. Dennis Catholic Church, Shipman. She survives. Surviving also are seven children, Mary Ann Wilson of Piasa, Donald "Arkie" Still of Carlinville, Ruthie Lang of Butler, Carol Jo Costello Jose of Germany, David "Buck" Costello, Patrick "Ernie" Costello, both of Carlinville, Lisa Ayers of Bethalto, Sara Klaus of Carlinville; a brother, Paul "Beak" Costello of Carlinville; seven sisters, Catherine Atteberry of Carlinville, Margaret Fritzche of Mt. Olive, Irene Joiner, Caroline Regli, Marie Young, Theresa Burns, all of Carlinville, Flosi Burritt of Tuscon, Ariz.; and 17 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Charles Thomas "Tom" Still on March 11, 1998, John B. Costello on February 13, 1962, and a brother, Joseph L. Costello in 1971.

Services for Bobby Gene Cottingham, step father of Sandy Stewart of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Davis - Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville. He would have been 65 years old on April 6. He was a welder with Rathgeb Brothers in Carlinville for 21 years before he retired. He previously worked at Owens - Illinois in Godfrey. born in Carlinville, he was a son of Lester A. and Ora Pearl Hunt Cottingham. Surviving also besides Mrs. Dennis Stewart are his wife, Mary Jane; daughters, Dawn Blazier and husband Jim of Fort Collins, Colo., Karen Cottingham of Cottage Hills; step daughters, Shelly Waskow and husband Kevin of Carlinville; his father, Lester A. Cottingham of Shipman; brothers, Carl and Glen "Butch" Cottingham, both of Shipman, Warren "Bud" Cottingham of Brighton; sister, Betty Cottingham of Palmyra; two grandchildren, four step grandchildren, a great great grandson and a step great great great grandchild.
Courtney, Ethel
Services for Ethel Courtney, of Staunton, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church there with the Rev. Kevin Boesen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call in the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the parsonage fund of the church. Miss Courtney died at 1:02 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. She was 79 years old on February 22. She was an executive secretary for over 30 years before retiring in 1981 and last worked for the Frist National Bank of St. Louis. A resident of Staunton for most of her life, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Bley and Alice Mize Courtney. Surviving are nieces, Jeanne Watson of Round Lake, Charlene Ellis of Mundelein, Judi Gargaro and husband Joe of Long Beach, Calif.; nephew, James Courtney and wife Sally of Staunton. Preceding her in death were two brothers and two sisters.
Courtright, Carl Albert
Services for Carl Albert Courtright, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 this morning in Holy Trinity Church there. The Rev. Fathers Larry Anschutz and Ted Schelich officiated. The Holy Trinity choir sang and was accompanied by Ruth Zubal, organist. Pallbearers, all veterans, were Nick and Paul Vuckovich, Vic Vogt, Irv Anderson, Fred Albers and Bill Lehman. They were joined in conducting full military rites by Jock Hogg, Art Niehaus and John Rosenthal. Richard Loescher and Dan Mancini folded the flag and Dan Mancini presented it to the family. Taps was played by Heidi Johnson. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Following the services a luncheon was served to family and friends at Holy Trinity Church by the women of the church. Mr. Courtright died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, July 17, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 73 years old on April 5, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a supervisor with Jenison and Wright in Granite City until he retired, member of the Holy Trinity Church, and Mt. Olive VFW Post 5790. He loved blue grass music. He was born in Dennison, a son of Carl A. and Sophia Schultz Courtright, and attended grade school in Billit and Lawrenceville High School. His marriage to Bessie Tadlock in 1946 later ended in divorce. He married Elizabeth Sabo on June 26, 1970, in St. Charles, Mo. She died March 25, 1993. On April 5, 1994, he married Louise DeRe Zippay in the Holy Trinity Church of Mt. Olive. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Carl Courtright, Jr. and wife Sharon of Granite City; step sons, Henry Zippay of Pampano Beach, Fla., Gerald Ely of Glen Carbon; step daughters, Angie Bauer of Virden, Nina Andressen of Pasadena, Calif., Joan Garber of Granite City, June Guillory of Spring, Texas; sisters, Ruth Schick, Margarite Konen, both of Billit; two grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren. A sister, Mildred Goff, preceded him in death. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Mt. Olive Ambulance Service.

Services for Donald E. Cox, Sr., of New Douglas, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro, with James Davison of Faith Lighthouse Fellowship, Schram City, officiating. Friends may call on Friday in the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Mr. Cox died at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 1999, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. He was 68 years old on October 14. He was a resident of New Douglas for the past 13 years and before that lived in Missouri. Before retiring in 1982, he worked as an auto mechanic specializing in transmissions. He was born in Kane, a son of Franklin and Virginia Coats Cox. He married Wanda Sauls on April 3, 1965, in Arkansas. She survives. Surviving also are their children, Kenneth, Kristy, Mike and Kenny of Wood River; Desiree of Hardin; Don, Jr.; Patty, Jason and Felicia of New Douglas; Janet and David of Fillmore; Clara and Tina of Missouri; Bambi and Shelly of Texas; Steve of Alton; Timothy of Maryville. And, sisters, Jenny, Shirley and Connie of Missouri; brothers, Bill of Godfrey, Jerry and Dennis of Alton, Bob and Daryl of East Alton, Richard of Elsah; 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was an accountant with H&R Block. She was born in Wood River, a daughter of Oran and Eva Peters Wallace. She married Donald Cox on February 12, 1974, in Plainview. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Andy Cox of Atwater; daughter, Eva Bishop of Dupo; brother, Curtis Wallace of Gipsy; sisters, Laura Davis of Sturdivant, Mo., Juanita Needham of Perryville, Mo., Melba Crain of Dupo, Flora Cookemboo of Gipsy; and two grandchildren, Danna and Dalton Bishop.

Rollin Cox, formerly of Hillsboro, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, in Rockingham, N.C. A resident of Rockingham, he was 35 years old last May 21. He was self-employed as a roofer and was an Army veteran. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Russell and Marilyn Miller Cox. Surviving are brothers, Roger and Dale Cox, both of Rialto, Calif.; sisters, Velma, Barbara and Barb.

Services for Henrieteta Helen "Hank" Cozart, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Firday in Becker and Son Funeral Home there with the Rev. Matthew Woodcock officiating. Burial will be in Chapman Cemetery near Mt. Olive. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Chapman Cemetery. Mrs. Cozart died at 5:15 p.m. Monday, September 21, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 80 years old on January 20. She worked at Southwestern Bell in St. Louis, Mo. for a time. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for many years. She loved gardening, canning and working in her yard. She was born in Granite City, a daughter of George and Annie Steidle Hays, attended grade shool in Moweaqua and high school in Granite City. On March 25, 1939, in St. Charles, Mo., she married Harold Edward Cozart. He died December 13, 1995. Surviving are a son, Jim Cozart and wife Nanette of White City; daughters, Ruth Cover and husband Michael H. of Edwardsville, Vickie Cozart of White City; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Roy and George Hays and sisters, Kate Hays and Alma Sizemore. Following the services a lunch will be provided for family and friends in the Methodist Church hall by the women of the church. Services for Henrietta Helen "Hank" Cozart, of Mt. Mrs. Cozart, 80, died Monday, September 21, in St. Francis Hospital.

The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Crabtree died at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 1999, in her home in Prairietown. She was 81 years old on March 8. She was a member of St. Peter's church and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was born in Worden, a daughter of W.W. and Louise Dustmann Gusewelle. She married Harold H. Crabtree on May 7, 1939, in St. Peter's church. He died March 18, 1982. Surviving are daughters, Marie Ruyle and husband Roger of New Berlin, Norma Krohne and husband Harold, Margie Schmidt and husband Allen, all of Prairietown; brother, Gilbert Gusewelle of Prairietown; two grandchildren, Jeff Ruyle of Edwardsville, Julie Ruyle of New Berlin. Others surviving include sisters in law, Mildred Crabtree of Staunton, Lena Crabtree of Edwardsville. Preceding her in death were three brothers, Arthur, Edwin and Wilfred Gusewelle.

Linda M. Crackel, sister of Cathy Hale of Litchfield, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 1999, in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Mrs. Crackel, a resident of Effingham, was 41 years old on August 15. She was born in Bloomington, a daughter of James W. and Sharon O'Connell Schribner. She married David W. Crackel in Effingham in 1983. He survives. Surviving, besides her husband and sister, are sons, Matthew Dammerman and Anthony "Tony" Crackel of Effingham; daughter, Robin Dammerman of Effingham; her parents, James and Sharon Scribner of Effingham; brothers, Jimmy Scribner of Altamont and Joe Scribner of Effingham; and two grandchildren. Services were held Saturday in Effingham at the St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park West.

Mr. Craig died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 73 years old on November 26. He was a farmer, before he retired and a member of the Raymond Baptist Church. He was born in RAmsey, a son of John and Lona Baldwin Craig. He married Evleyn Nagle on February 24, 1952, in Ramsey. She survives. Surviving also are Gloria Hutchins and husband Joe of Hillsboro, Leona Barron of Auburn; a son, Carl Craig and wife Rhonda of Phonix; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a daughter, three brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.

Richard Dean Craig, of Hillsboro, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 1999, in St. John's Hospital North, Springfield. He was 72 years old on SEptember 12. He worked in railroad maintenance for the Norfolk Southern Railroad, and was a member of the Schram City Baptist Church. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Herman and Bertha Mae Shives Craig. He married Lucille M. McLean Dilley on June 14, 1980, in Schram City; she survives. Surviving also are step sons, Darrell C. Dilley of Macon, Ga., S. Bruce Dilley of Findlay; step daughters, CArol Ann Martin of St. Charles, Mo., Brenda Sue Moore of Green Forrest, Ark; a sister, Delta Manning of Terre Haute, Ind.,; four step grandchildren and two great step grandchildren. Services were held Saturday with burial in Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mr. Crain died at 3:44 p.m. Monday, October 25, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 86 years old last November 14. He was a farmer. He was born in Annette, Ky., a son of Will and Cora Hodge Crain. He married Mildred Hobbs on January 17, 1945. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Sharon Smith and husband Tommy of Rosamond; son, Gary Crain of Rosamond; brothers, Clayton Crain of Galesburg, Laymon Crain of Maroa; sisters, Hedy Scott of Pawnee, Vernie Sims of Clarkson, Ky., Rena Buster of Ft. Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Lyle on March 29, 1983; brothers, Howard, Irvin, Virgil, Daymon and Willard Crain; sisters, Geneva Sanlin and Oleta Kidwell.

Services for Fred Crandall, of Hillsboro, were held Sunday in Martinsville. Burial was in the Casey - Cumberland Cemetery at Casey. Mr. Crandall died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 86 years old on April 30. He was a retired farmer, member of the Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, honorary member of the Martinsville Agricultural Fair board of directors and the American Shorthorn Cattle Association. For several years he was a tax assessor in Orange Township. He was born in Orange Township of Clark County, a son of Cam and Nora Bennett Crandall. He married Faith Finney on November 24, 1934. She survives in Hillsboro. Surviving also are sisters, Florence Adkisson of Oblong, Rose Penrod of Casey; three granddaughters, Lisa Huddlestun of Green up, Lori Scimio of O'Fallon, Mo., Leslie Boston of Hillsboro; and seven great grandchildren. Others surviving include a daughter in law, Sue Haupt of Casey. Preceding him in death were a son, Larry Crandall and a sister, Emily Vale.

Services for Darrel C. Cranfill, of Hillsboro, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Patton Memorial Home with Norris Price of Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Irving Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Mr. Cranfill died at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 54 years old on August 20. He was a rural mail carrier with the Hillsboro Post Office for 22 years then transferred to the Coffeen Post Office four years ago. He was also a farmer. An antique tractor enthusiast, he specialized in the antique tractor games. He was a member of the VanBurensburg Community Church. A resident of the Hillsboro community for most of his life, he graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1953. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Rev. George and Opal Rosmelin Cranfill. He married Judy Scheifer on September 5, 1965, in the Irving United Methodist Church. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Michele Huber and husband Gary of Nokomis; brother, Donald Cranfill and wife Joyce of Hillsboro; sister, Doris Scroggins of Palatka, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Kayla and Bradley both at home in Nokomis.
Cravens, Carol Ann
Carol Ann Cravens, formerly of Nokomis, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, in Texas. A resident of Lake Jackson, Texas, she was 55 years old on February 18. She was a counselor at Brazowood High School for 28 years before she retired in 1997. She earned a bachelor's degree in German education from the University of Illinois in 1966 and a master's degree in counseling from the University of Houston, Houston, Texas in 1972. She served in the Army with the rank of 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Edward and Pauline Tester. Surviving are her husband, Thomas; daughter, Allison, at home; mother, Pauline Tester of Nokomis; brother, Dean Tester and wife Diane of Nokomis. Others surviving include nephews Dan Tester of Witt and David Tester of Nokomis. Her father, Edward, preceded her in death. Memorial service will be held Saturday in Lake Jackson and a second service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Nokomis.
Cravens, Luella C.
Luella C. Cravens, formerly of Hillsboro, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, in Robings Manor Nursing Home, Brighton. She was 91 years old on July 16. She was a 1937 graduate of Hillsboro High School and worked as a secretary at Owens - Illinois Glass, Inc., and at Western Cartridge, now Olin Corp. She sold real estate for Don W. Cravens Real Estate and Gene St. Cin Real Estate companies. She was Brighton Village clerk from 1973 to 1977 and a Brighton Village trustee. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 469, Heritage Group and Civic League, all in Brighton. She was the administrator of the St. Louis chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In 1978, she went to Geneva, Switzerland, to form a chapter of Webster University. She was also founder of the Southwestern Mothers Club. She had also worked as office manager in the Mass Communications department of Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of David P. and Cora Alice McAdams Atteberry. She married Donald Cravens on January 8, 1942, in Alton; he died in 1963. Surviving are a son, Thomas Cravens of Madison, Wis.; sisters, Fern Livingston of Springfield, Mo., Mable Scheffel of Brighton; and a granddaughter, Annalisa Luella Cravens of Madison. Preceding her in death were brothers, Elmer, William and Earl Atteberry and sisters, Pearl Major, Bess Carlock and Ruth Nolte. Services were held in St. Paul United Methodist Church, Brighton, with burial in the Upper Alton Cemetery.

He was a laborer and a fork lift operator for Allis - Chalmers for 27 years before he retired in 1973. He was born in Zanesville Township near Litchfield, a son of James and Edda Grisham Crawford. Services for Clyde Alvin Crawford, of Litchfield, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff Robinson of New Lenox officiated. Burial was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Honey Bend. During the service musical selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Pallbearers were Brian Crawford of Raymond, Daniel Crawford of New Baden, Larry Crawford of St. Charles, Mo., Mark Crawford of Hornsby, Todd Crawford of Granite City, Jeffrey Law of Joliet, Travis Thompson of Joliet and Thomas Vincent of Sawyerville. Following the committal service a luncheon was provided for the family and friends at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church. Mr. Crawford, 85, died Tuesday, September 7, in St. Francis Hospital.

Services for Kenneth Lee Crawford, of Hillsboro, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Meinschein Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Langhoff, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Mr. Crawford died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 1998, in his rural Hillsboro residence. He was 67 years old on May 18, and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked in construction with Local 1084 and also farmed. He was born in Zanesville Township in Montgomery County, a son of Charles Edward and Evelyn Kathryn Elliman Crawford, and graduated in 1951 from Raymond High School. He married Marcella R. Kalaher on Arpil 1, 1956, near Raymond. She died January 21, 1990. Surviving are a son, Dennis K. Crawford of rural Butler; daughters, Debra Prange and husband Randy, Darlene Brauer and husband Alan, all of Litchfield; a brother, Charles O. Crawford, Sonota, Ariz.; sisters, Loeta Pruitt of Sonota, Letha Bergman of Raymond, Edith Pruitt of Butler; and two grandchildren, Colene and Shannon Brauer of Litchfield. Services for Kenneth Lee Crawford, of rural Hillsboro, were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Meinschein Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald H. Langhoff officiated. Michelle Sweet was the organist. Mr. Crawford, 67, died Wednesday, August 12, at his home.

Services for Ruby M. Crawford, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Meinschein Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Spires, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church of Litchfield. Mrs. Crawford died at noon Monday, February 9, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 88 years old on March 9. She had worked at Litchfield Floral Gardens and at Newberry's Department Store before she retired. She was born in Honey Bend, a daughter of James E. and Etta Grisham Crawford. She never married. Surviving is a brother, Clyde Crawford of Litchfield. Preceding her in death were six brothers, Charles, James, William, John, Robert and Quintin Crawford and eight sisters, Mabel Westbrook, Nelle Holliday, Eva Reeves, Ruth Painter, Viola Skinner, Edith Deaton, Susan Bandy and Hattie Crawford in infancy. Private service for Jarrod Kenneth Cress, infant son of Kenneth and Lisa Taylor Cress III, of Carrollton, were held today. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton was in charge of arrangements. The baby was pronounced dead at birth Friday evening, April 2, 1999, in Jersey Community Hospital, Jerseyville. Surviving besides his parents are a sister, Kelsey at home; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Diane Taylor of Litchfield; paternal grandparents, Wilbur and Audra Price of Carrollton; maternal great grandparent, Audrey Wallace of Jerseyville. Others surviving in the local area include aunts and uncles, Tanya Lively and husband Shane of Hillsboro, Lori Tripplet, Bradley Taylor and wife Angie of Litchfield, and their children.
Cress, Robert Sr.
Graveside service for Robert William Cress, Sr., formerly of Hillsboro, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in Oak Grove Cemetery there with the Rev. Robert Hester officiating. Bass Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. Mr. Cress, of Atlanta, Ga., died Saturday, April 11, 1998, in Atlanta. He was 75 years old on January 26. He grew up on Cress Hill Farm in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1940. He then entered the University of Illinois. With the advent of World War II, he entered the Army Air Corps and was shot down in a raid over Ploesti. He was taken prisoner and served time in a POW camp in Romania. He returned to the University of Illinois after the war, graduating in 1946. His career was in advertising and marketing. He was a member of the Peach Tree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and was a national champion trombonist. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of James and Essie Webster Cress. He married Polley White on May 31, 1947. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Polley Lawrence and husband Shep of Roswell, Ga., Janette Dondi and husband Beda of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Robert William Cress and wife Susan of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Louise Beckemeyer of Cleveland, Ohio, Marion Durrett of Clearwater, Fla.; brother, James Cress, also of Clearwater; and seven grandchildren.

Services for Edith Criner, formerly of Staunton, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Clint Braman officiating. Burial will be in Chapman Cemetery in rural Mt. Olive. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mrs. Criner died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 1999, in Jerseyville Manor. She was 96 years old on May 3. She was born in White City, a daughter of James and Rebecca Boyd Osborn. she married Fred Criner on November 26, 1920. He died July 9, 1976. Surviving are daughters, Esther Eller of Jerseyville, Opal Horch of St. Louis, Jean Criner of Peoria, Ariz.; a son, Herschel Criner of Mayer, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, a daughter in infancy, three sisters and four brothers.
