Services for Charles Albert Crites, of Litchfield and formerly of White City, were held at 11 a.m. today in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Rev. Tony Bell of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, Litchfield, officiated. Burial was in Chapman Cemetery at Mt. Olive. Pallbearers were Mark Ghose, Bruce Faris, Jack Law, Earl Stoecker, Chad Stoecker and David Sawyer. Following the services a meal was provided for the family and friends in the St. Timothy Church hall by the women of the church. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Mr. Crites died at 9:48 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, in Litchifeld Health Care Center. He was 97 years old on November 13. He retired in 1961 as a machinist with Shell Oil Company in Roxana, after 22 years of service. He worked from 1919 to 1939 for Consolidated Coal Company at Mine 15 in White City. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. He also played many musical instruments. Besides living in White City, where he attended public school, he also resided for a time in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Joseph and Sophia Boyd Crites. He married Beatrice Sawyer on October 27, 1923, in Carlinville. She died December 28, 1989. Surviving are daughters, Hilda Faris of Litchfield, Marion Ghose and husband Ken of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Debbie Hampton, Linda Stoecker, both of Litchfield, Staff Sgt. Bruce Faris of Tucson, Ariz., Mark Ghose of Tempe, Ariz.; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a brother, Elmer Crites and a sister, Iola Crites White.
Crosby, Bernard F.
Bernard Fred Crosby, of Fillmore, died at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 1999, in Montgomery Health Care Center. He was 76 years old on February 20, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a self-employed sheet metal worker and belonged to the sheet metal workers union. He moved to Fillmore in 1987 from Springfield where he had lived most of his life. He was born in Springfield, a son of Michael Bernard and Katherine Brunner Crosby. He was married to the former Margaret Lenox and they had three children. Surviving are the children, Robert Crosby and wife Liz of California, Dave Crosby and wife Jung-Hi of Stuart, Florida, Rene Rodem and husband Roy of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Dorothy Beck of Fillmore; and three grandchildren. No services are planned. The remains were to be cremated with Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro, in charge of arrangements.

Services for Dorothy M. Crow, of Nokomis, were held at 11 this morning in Stiehl - Dawson Funeral Home there. The Rev. Dale Best officiated. Burial was in the Nokomis Cemetery. Mrs. Crow died at 8:35 a.m. Friday, February 5, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 76 years old on December 24. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of Leo and Myrtle Gilliland. She married Robert R. Crow on December 23, 1943, in Petaluma, Calif. He died December 20, 1990. Surviving are a son, Jim Crow of Nokomis; daughter, Connie Carlock of Nokomis; brother, Kenny Gilliland of Grafton; sister, Martha Bing of Champaign. Preceding her in death were a son, Robert Lee Crow on December 21, 1981, and a brother, Glenn Gilliland.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Mr. Crow died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, November 2, 1998, in his home. He was 76 years old on December 20. He worked for the city of Pana before he retired and was a member of the Way of Life Church in Taylorville and the Nokomis Sportsman's Club. He was born in Nokomis, a son of Pearl and Irene Vedder Crow. He married Evelyn Kirby on November 15, 1952, in Pocahontas, Ky. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Richard Crow and wife Kelli of Coalton; a daughter, Dawn Alexander and husband Francis of Fillmore; a sister, Betty Wright of Phoenix, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Robert and Charles and a sister, Dorothy Arnold.

Services for George Hallam Crum will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Toberman Funeral Home, Coffeen, with the Rev. Elmer Fenton officiating. Burial will be in Olive Hill Cemetery there with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1377 of Green ville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Heart Association. Mr. Crum died Monday, August 10, 1998, in his home in Nason, Ill. He would have been 52 years old on August 13, and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked at Nevco Scoreboard in Green ville but before that he was employed as a coal miner at the Hillsboro Mine in Coffeen and the Sesser Mine. He was a licensed horseshoe player in Illinois. He served in the Navy from October 16, 1964 to October 16, 1968. He then served with the reserves until October 1970. He was a member of VFW Post 1377 in Green ville. He was affiliated with the Methodist church. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Arthur Hallam and Elizabeth Frick Crum. Surviving are a daughter, Devin Crum of Green ville; brothers, Jake Crum of Kent, Wash., and John Crum of Layton, Utah.
Crum, H. Don
H. Don Crum, formerly of Coffeen, died at 5:28 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in his home at Rushville. He was 72 years old on January 15, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for the telephone company for 38 years before retiring in 1992 He was born in Coffeen, a son of Lucius L. and Millie K. Abbott Crum. He married Mildred White on June 23, 1947, in Rockford. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Danny Crum of Rushville, Stacey James of Springfield; daughter, Deanna Clapp of Concordia, Kan.; sister, Louise Edwards of Fresno, Calif.; brothers, Glen Crum of Rushville, Eugene Crum of Elkhart, Ind., Wendell Crum of Norman, Okla.; and three grandchildren. A brother, Hallam, preceded him in death. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Free Methodist Church of Rushville. Burial will be in the Rushville City Cemetery. Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel, Rushville, is in charge of arrangements.

Services for Edward L. Crumbey, Jr., were held Friday in the Zieren-Day Funeral Home, Carlyle. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis. Mr. Crumbey, of Keyesport, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 49 years old on December 11. He resided in the area for the last 30 years and was self-employed as a mechanic. He was an Army veteran, having served from 1968 to 1971, member of the Disabled Veterans, member of American Legion Post 1994 in Keyesport and VFW Post 3523 of Carlyle. He was born in St. Louis, a son of Edward L. and Wanda Curtis Crumbey. His marriage, to Rhonda Wilkerson, ended in divorce. Surviving are a son, David Crumbey of Keyesport; daughter, Laura Crumbey of Keyesport; brothers, Kenny Crumbey of Livingston, Bruce Crumbey of Irving, Bobby Crumbey of Keyesport; sisters, Sheryl Drysdale of Belleville, Caroline Eyman of Vandalia.

Private services for Amy D. Culp, of Litchfield, were held at 2 this afternoon at graveside in Elm Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Langhoff, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church officiated. Mrs. Culp died at 10:07 p.m. Friday, July 3, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 87 years old on January 31. She worked for several places over the years including The Mill Cafe in Mt. Olive, The Hut Cafe in Litchfield and the Zion Lutheran School Cafeteria in Litchfield. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Melvin and Sarah Edwards Logsdon. She married Graydon G. Culp on December 8, 1934, in Edwardsville. He died February 10, 1974. Surviving are a son, Charles Culp and wife Barbara of Spokane, Wash.; daughter, Sheila Johnson and husband Kelly of Butler; sister, Ruby Thiessen of Litchfield; grandchildren, Keith Culp of Troy, Kevin Culp of Collinsville, Sean Culp of Fayetteville, N.C., Sara Johnson of Holts Summit, Mo.; and nine great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, William, Roy, Archie and Alva Logsdon and sisters, Bessie Birkenkamp and Lois Westhoff.

Mrs. Culp, of Morton, died Wednesday, November 4, 1998, in Morton Terrace. She was 88 years old on August 5. She was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church serving as an elder, circle member and in the choir. She was also a member of Jacksonville Church Women United, former member of Beecher Hi©Rise Kitchen Band, volunteer at the food center and volunteer for the Beecher Hi Rise Door Bell Ringers. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of James Whitson and Eva Bailey Green . Her husband, William V. Culp, whom she married in Hillsboro in 1936, died in 1989. Surviving are a daughter, Rose M. Ashbaker of Pekin; son, James C. Culp of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Elbert R. Green of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was an infant daughter, Grace Elaine Culp.

He was 73 years old on May 23. He worked in building maintenance at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, for 23 years. He retired July 1, 1996. He was a member of St. John's Church in Wood River. He was born in Alton, a son of Davis L. and Nellie P. Burch Cummings. He married Norma Jean Northcutt on June 29, 1947, in Wood River. She survives. Mr. Cummings died at 8:59 a.m. Sunday, August 23, 1998,in St. Francis Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 50 years old on October 17. He was a truck driver for Contempo of St. Louis. He enjoyed vintage model cars, watching television, eating out and visiting Disney World. He was born in St. Louis, a son of Theodore A. and Harriet Ladd Cummings. He married Kay Wagner on December 29, 1989, in Worden. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Timothy Cummings of Collinsville; a daughter, Kimberly Cummings of Williamson; step son, Randy Estell of Mt. Olive; step daughters, Michelle Middleton of Benld, Shari Overturf of Carlinville, Lori Keller of Mt. Mrs. Curran, of Peoria, died at 6:16 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 1999, in Bel-Wood Nursing Home there. She was 95 years old on September 28. She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Pierce and Martha Hill Sawyer, and attended Nilwood schools. She was first married to Truman Woolridge who preceded her in death. On October 16, 1948, in Moro, she married Charles Curran; he died November 7, 1968. Surviving are daughters, Winona Miles of San Jose, Calif., V. Joyce Richards of Peoria; sisters, Cora Garcia of Houston, Martha Throne of Sonora, Calif.; 23 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 30 great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her husbands were a daughter, Fay Webb; sons, Loy and Marvin Lee Woolridge; brothers, Al, Frank, Howard, Roy, Tom, Henry and Melvin Sawyer and sisters, Rosa Carter, Dorris Cornell, Ethel Mae Voyles, Alice and Grace Sawyer.

Owen Currence, father of James Currence of Nokomis, died June 22, 1998, in his home in Batesville, Ind. He was 95 years old. He was a truck driver for Gulf Oil before he retired. Surviving are Eleanor, his wife of 72 years; daughter, Peg Ankrum of Metamora, Ind.; another son, Richard Currence of Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A son, Robert Currence, preceded him in death.

Surviving are a son, Richard Curtis of Springfield; daughters, Darlene Ross and husband Lemoyne of Springfield, Evelyn Kay Cole and husband Richard of Ramsey; a sister, Juanita File of Alton; two grandchildren, Amanda Kay Cole of Ramsey, Heather Lynn Robinson of Colorado, and a great grandson, Dustin Beaty of Denver, Colo. He was a member of Litchfield Moose Lodge 1634. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Louis and Genevieve Taylor Curto. He married Jean Elizabeth Hoffman on September 14, 1963. She survives. Mr. Curto, 65, died Wednesday, April 14, in St. Francis Hospital.

Mr. Curvey, of Vicksburg, Michigan, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, in the Total Living Center, Kalamzoo, Mich. He was 93 years old on February 4. He worked for Shell Oil Company from 1927 until his retirement in 1960. From 1954 to 1960, he was the chief operator for Shell Oil with the Wolverine Pipeline project. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Litchfield. He was born in Palmer, a son of Ace and Minnie Bock Curvey. His wife, the former Stella Coy, died in 1990. Surviving are a son, Keith Curvey and wife Linda of Mattawan, Mich.; grandson, Gregory Curvey and step grandchildren, Dina Hershberger and Kara Griner. Others surviving include sisters in law, Velma Curvey of Taylorville and Zelma Welch of Morrisonville. Preceding him in death was a brother, Mervil Curvey.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Sacred Heart Church Restoration Fund. Mrs. Cusimano died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 1999, in her home. She was 86 years old on February 21. She had resided in Livingston for the past 23 years and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. Before moving to Livingston, she and her husband, Alphonse, owned a store and lived in St. Louis. She was born in Milwaukee, Wis., a daughter of John and Edwina Sommariva Giuliani. She married Alphonse Cusimano on November 5, 1931, in Edwardsville. He died February 20, 1985. Surviving are a son, Allen M. Cusimano and wife Shirley of Maryland Heights, Mo.; sisters, Olivia Dobrinich of Staunton, Rita Neumann and husband Bud of Livingston; brother, Alex Giuliani of Gillespie; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Others surviving include a brother in law, Earl Gori of New Douglas. Preceding her in death were sisters, Carmela Kyle and Edith Gori.

Services for Jeremy Allen Cutler, a half brother of Amber and Jessie Cutler of Nokomis, was held Wednesday in Shelbyville. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. Cutler, 24 on January 29, died early Saturday, May 1, 1999, in Shelby County Memorial Hospital as the result of multiple stab wounds sustained in a Shelbyville tavern. He was a machinist with Ihi Turbo America Company in Shelbyville. He was born in Decatur, a son of Bradley and Gwenda Marquiss Cutler, and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1993. Surviving also are his father, Bradley Cutler of Shelbyville; mother and step father, Don and Gwenda Boys of Shelbyville; and a step brother, David Boys of Shelbyville.

Funeral arrangements for Doris Marie Dacy, sister of Donald Dealey of Litchfield, are pending at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, Springfield. Mrs. Dacy, of Springfield, died at 9:04 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center there. She was 66 years old on November 9. She worked as an executive secretary for Franklin Life Insurance Company from 1951 to 1989. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Jacob and Catherine Schneeberger Dealey. She married James Dacy in 1964 in Carlinville. He preceded her in death. Surviving besides her brother, Donald, are step daughters, Sally Hayes and Cheri Bandor, both of Springfield; another brother, Robert Dealey of East Alton; sisters, Lorine Dealey of Springfield, Etta Ban of Wilton, Calif., June Cooper and Vera Waters, both of Sacramento, Calif.; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services for Joseph W. Dagon, formerly of Hillsboro, were held Wednesday in Kenosha, Wis. Bruch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Dagon died Sunday, August 1, 1999, in a Kenosha hospital. He was 86 years old on March 6. He was the head maintenance engineer in the Kenosha Unified School District for 28 years, retiring in 1978, and was an active volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program from 1978 to 1995. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of James and Mary Boyle Dagon, and graduated from Hillsboro High School. He moved to Kenosha in the 1930s and served with the Army in the military police from December 1942 to February 1946. He married Veronica "Verna" Zongolowicz on November 3, 1942, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, Havana. She died December 18, 1967. Preceding him in death also were brothers, John, James, Frank, Harry, Charles, Paul and Alfred "Pat" Dagon and sisters, Rose Ella Hauser, Kathryn Bittner, Genevieve Doran, Mary Dagon and Margarete Davis.
Dagon, Sr., William M.
Services for William M. Dagon, Sr., of Schram City, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the United Methodist Church of Hillsboro, with the Rev. Tom Compton, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1306, Taylor Springs. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Patton Memorial Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Hillsboro Public Library. Mr. Dagon died Friday, April 9, 1999, in South Bay Hospital, Sun City Center, Fla. He was 75 years old on November 23, and a an Army veteran of World War II. He was a teacher at Hillsboro High School for 25 years, from 1960 to 1985. He graduated in 1960 with a bachelor's degree from Green ville College and later earned a master's degree in business administration from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. He also attended Eastern Illinois University and Northern Illinois University. He was a 1942 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He was an Army paratrooper and retired officially in 1984 with the rank of Major. His service included jumping with paratroopers into Normandy in June 1944, participating in the Battle of the Bulge, jumping in Holland in Operation Market Garden and after the war, serving with the General Eisenhower Honor Guard. He also served in the Illinois National Guard from 1948 to 1966. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, VFW Post 1306 in Taylor Springs, Hillsboro Moose and the 508 Parachute Infantry Association. He was born in Schram City, a son of James P. and Margaret Doris Dagon. He married June E. Hill on August 21, 1943, in St. Louis. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Kathy Dagon of Hillsboro, Mary Dagon of Belleville; a son, Mike Dagon and wife Myrna Jean of Butler; brother, James E. Dagon of Hillsboro; sisters, Verna Seaton of Schram City, Betty Traylor and husband Earl of Schram City; two grandchildren, Lt. Patrick J. Dagon with the Army stationed in Germany and Spec. Kevin E. Dagon with the Army stationed at Fort Monmouth, N.J. A sister, Margaret Funk, preceded him in death.
Dahler, Melvin H.
Services for Melvin Harvey Dahler, formerly of the rural Nokomis area, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday in Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Tom Compton, pastor of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church officiating. Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Ohlman Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday in the funeral home from 6 p.m. until the time of service. Mr. Dahler died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, November 22, 1999, in Desert Life Rehabilitation and Care Center in Tucson, Ariz. He was 74 years old on November 25. He left the Nokomis area in 1948 to reside in Arizona. He worked at the Silver Bell Copper Mine as a shovel operator. Later he was employed as a salesperson in hardware stores. He was a member of the Casa Adobes Baptist Church and Sunny Sam's R.V. Club of Tucson, taught Sunday school in the church at Silver Bell, and was a Boy Scout leader for more than 10 years. He was born in Montgomery County, a son of Harvey G. and Alvera M. Michelman Dahler. He married Betty Lou Keiser on August 18, 1951, in St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Ohlman. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Wayne A. Dahler of Mill Valley, Calif., Dennis C. Dahler and wife Jeanne of Tucson; daughter, Janice K. Pulley and husband David of Flagstaff, Ariz.; brothers, Harley Dahler and wife Bonnie, Marion Dahler and wife Jeanne, all of Nokomis; sister, Irene Graden and husband Dennis of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Christopher, Michelle and Nathaniel of Flagstaff. Others surviving include his mother in law, Genevieve Keiser of Nokomis.
Daley, Sr., Louis Henry
Services for Louis Henry Daley, Sr., of Gillespie, were conducted privately in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, with the Rev. Father Larry Auda officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Daley died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 78 years old last December 21. He retired as a flight instructor in California and before that served as a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force and the Army. He was born in Carlinville, a son of Henry Christopher and Anna Woodman Daley. Surviving are a son, Lou Daley of Gillespie; daughters, Linda Fassero, Gina Wright, both of Gillespie; a brother, Lige Woodman Daley of Palm Desert, Calif.; a sister, Billie Henry of Palm Desert; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Dalzotto died at 9:53 p.m. Saturday January 16, 1999, in Sunrise Care Center, Edwardsville. She was 75 years old on April 30. She was a retail clerk at Jan-El Gift Shop in Gillespie before she retired. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Gillespie. She was born in Gillespie, a daughter of Earl and Luella May Boyd Ray. She married Angelo Dalzotto on December 20, 1941, in Gary, Ind. He died September 3, 1980. Surviving are a son, Kerry Dalzotto and wife Connie of Edwardsville; a sister, Ellen Reid of Gillespie; and two grandchildren, Sandy and David Dalzotto, both of Edwardsville.

Graveside services for Breanna Nicole Damm, the month old daughter of Timothy and Rosemary Damm of Fillmore, were held Friday in Green Hill Cemetery in rural Fillmore. Rev. Mauser officiated. The baby died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. Surviving besides her parents are a sister, Samantha at home; grandparents, Eddie and Nancy Sampson of Fillmore, Kevin and Nila Reed of Effingham, Ray and Nancy Damm of White Hall; great grandparents, Tom and Paulette Damm of Girard and Jim and Mary Reed of Nokomis.

Mr. Darst was pronounced dead at 8:10 a.m. Monday, September 20, 1999, at the scene of a truck - train accident near Nokomis. He was 72 years old on May 22. He was a farmer, member of the South Fork United Methodist Church of Nokomis and the Tower Hill Masonic Lodge A.F.&A.M. He was born in Pana, a son of Bert Monroe and Minnie Orleana Sanders Darst. He married twice, first to Iris Darnell and then to Bernita Funk. Both marriages ended in divorce. Surviving are sons, Dan Darst of Huntley, Kevin Darst of Fillmore, Jay Darst of Springfield; daughter, Lisa Price of Springfield, Mo.; brother, Robert E. Darst of Decatur; sister, MaryLou Weber of California; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. Mrs. Daughtry died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. She was 84 years old on October 25. She was a cook at the Annex Cafe before she retired, and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive. She was born in Beardstown, a daughter of Leo and Myrtle Dunkin. She married Parnell G. Daughtry on October 31, 1937. He preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Richard Daughtry of Colorado Springs, Colo., three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Sister, Velma Ernst, preceded her in death.
