Enslow, Grace L.

Services for Grace L. Enslow, formerly of Atwater, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Davis - Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, with the Rev. Anton Borella officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Ridge Cemetery at Atwater. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mrs. Enslow, of Carlinville, died at 6 p.m. Monday, January 25, 1999, in Carlinville Hospital. She was 92 years old on April 8. She was a member of the Atwater Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star 117 in Girard. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling. She was born in Atwater, a daughter of James M. and Mary Boston. Her husband, Leon I. Enslow, preceded her in death in 1966. Surviving is a son, James J. "Jud" Enslow of Atwater; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Preceding her in death were a son, Leon A. Enslow in 1982, a great grandson, Tyler Robert Enslow in 1989, a brother and two sisters.

Eppinger, Carl M.

Services for Carl M. Eppinger, father of Linda Corso of Litchfield, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Williamson Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday in the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Mr. Eppinger died Sunday, October 31, 1999, in Prairie Village Health Care Center. He was 89 years old on March 24. He was a foreman at Nesco and later a presser at J. Capps and Sons before he retired. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was born in Ltichfield, a son of George and Bertha Josephine Emmons Eppinger. He married Louise Orris in 1947. She survives. Surviving besides his daughter, Linda and husband Tony, are sons, Walter C. Eppinger and wife Lorene; Robert Lee Eppinger, all of Gillespie; another daughter, Jo Ellen Hall and husband Don of Bethalto; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Others surviving include a special friend, Mary Landreth of Jacksonville. Preceding him in death were sisters, Norma Garella and Evelyn Seaman.

Ernst, Irma C.

Services for Irma C. Ernst, of New Douglas, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Immanuel Lutheran Church there with the Rev. Mark Sidney officiating. Burial will be in the New Douglas Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Lesicko Funeral Home at New Douglas. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Project 2000 or the Staunton Ambulance Service. Mrs. Ernst died at 11 a.m. Monday, December 6, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 77 years old on January 25. She assisted in the operation of the family farm and was a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the women's group of the church and a former Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was born in Mt. Olive Township of Macoupin County, a daughter of Frank and Dora Heien Keiser. She married Fred L. Ernst on September 4, 1949, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. He survives. Surviving also are daughters, Karen Ruschhaupt and husband Lawrence of Staunton, Marilyn Ernst of Springfield; two grandchildren, Tim and Mark Ruschhaupt of Staunton. Others surviving include sisters in law, Vera and Irma Keiser of Litchfield. Preceding her in death were brothers, Elmer, Lester and Norman Keiser.

Ernst, Judith A.

Services for Judith Ann Ernst, formerly of Sorento, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Douglas, with the Rev. Mark Sidney officiated. Burial will be in New Douglas Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Lesicko Funeral Home, New Douglas. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Project 2000, New Douglas PTO Scholarship Fund or the Sorento School Technology Fund. Mrs. Ernst, of New Douglas, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 1999, in her home from a gun shot accident. She was 48 years old on March 6. She was a teacher in Bond County Community Unit District 2 since 1974, and was teaching third grade in the Sorento school. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the women's group there, the Kessinger American Legion Auxiliary Unit 713 of Sorento, New Douglas Old Settler Community Club, P.T.O. of New Douglas and the Sorento - Highland Band Parents Association. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Clarence and Reba Dove Wall. She married Harold A. Ernst on September 19, 1980, in New Douglas. He survives. Surviving also are a daughter and son, Tammy and David Ernst, both at home; her mother, Reba Wall of Sorento; sister, Linda Niehaus and husband Don of Donnellson. Her father, Clarence Wall, preceded her in death.

Ernst, Lawrence W.

Services for Lawrence William Ernst, of the Alhambra - New Douglas area, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the United Church of Christ of Grantfork with the Rev. David P. Schlelka officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Spengel - Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, or from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday in the church. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Grantfor United Church of Christ or the Grantfork Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Ernst died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday in Hampton Nursing Care at Alhambra. He was 89 years old on September 30, and an Army veteran. He was a farmer all of his life. In his early years he hauled milk and helped with the trashing. He and his brother farmed near Raymond. He and his wife, Velma, raised dairy, other livestock and grain in an area bounded by Leaf, Alhambra, Saline and Marine Townships in Madison County. They retired at age 65 but continued to live on the farm until moving to Hampton Nursing Care in 1995. He was one of the founders of the Highland Community School Unit District 5, serving on the new shcool board from 1950 to 1965 and as board president from 1957 to 1965. He enjoyed hunting, tinkering, restoring tractors and repairing furniture. He was a member of the Grantfork United Church of Christ, Churchmen's Brotherhood, founding member of the Grantfork Volunteer Fire Department, and member and director of the Madison County Farm Bureau. He was born in New Douglas, a son of Charles William and Lizzie Adams Ernst. He married Velma Dorothea Kruse on February 26, 1935, in New Douglas. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Kenneth Ernst and wife Judith of Highland, Larry Ernst and wife Vicki of Nashville; daughter, Ruth Ann Ernst of Dallas, Texas; brother, Erwin Ernst and wife Addie of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Others suviving include a foster brother, John Eppenheimer of Alton. Preceding him in death were sisters, Ann LeDuc, Lydia Peters, Lynn Chartrand, Josephine Fielner and brothers, Albert, Louis and Walter Ernst and William Ernst in infancy.

Ernst, Margaret Dorothy

Services for Margaret Dorothy Ernst, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Becker and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Breum officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Mt. Olive Cemetery or Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. Mrs. Ernst died at 5 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 90 years old on October 13. She was a teacher in the Mt. Olive School District for many years. A member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, she was baptized there on December 22, 1907 by the Rev. Nottbohm and confirmed on March 25, 1923 by the Rev. Hofhenke. She was a gradue of Illinois State Teachers College, Normal, and a 1925 graduate of Mt. Olive High School. She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Jacob L. and Janna Weerts Fuchs. She married Emil H. Ernst on June 24, 1945, in Mt. Olive by the Rev. Hofhenke. Mr. Ernst died September 2, 1980. Surviving is a sister, Dorothy Fuchs of Mt. Olive. Other survivors include a nephew, David Fuchs of Troy, Mich; niece, Linda Fuchs of Novi, Mich.; and a sister in law, Alma Fuchs of Sterling Heights, Mich. Services for Margaret Dorothy Ernst, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 this morning in Becker and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Terrry Breum officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Musical selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We have in Jesus." Rosemary Messner was pianist and soloist. Pallbearers were Nolan O'Neal, Walter Friesner Jr., Erhardt Prange, Roy Feldmann, Terry Bruem and Ed Becker. Mrs. Ernst, 90, died Sunday, September 6, in St. Francis Hospital.

Erspamer, Teresa M.

Funeral Mass for Teresa M. Erspamer, of Gillespie, will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church there by the Rev. Father Larry Auda. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Kravanya Funeral Home. Prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Benld Nutrition Center. Mrs. Erspamer died at 1:50 this morning, Thursday, August 19, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. She was 91 years old on June 2. She was born in Sawyerville, a daughter of James and Rosa Contratto Meno. Her husband, Julius Erspamer, survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Tami Watkins and husband Wayne, and two grandchildren, Scott and Tiffany Watkins, all of Gillespie. Preceding her in death were brothers, Charles and John Meno.

Erwin, Charles R.

Charles R. Erwin, brother of Bonnie Baron and Betty Oakley of Taylor Springs, died Wednesday, October 14, 1998, in Beloit, Wisconsin, after suddenly becoming ill. He resided in Rockford, Ill., and 70 years old on August 28, and an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre and of the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for 35 years before retiring in 1991. He was employed by Cassens Transport of Belvidere. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Ira D. and Hattie Osborn Erwin, and was twice married. He married Mary G. Foster on January 14, 1955, in Paducah, Ky. She died. He married Judith E. Larson Aves on May 14, 1989, in Belvidere. She survives. Surviving also are four sons, two daughters and six grandchildren, none from the local area. Also surviving are a brother, Roy Erwin and wife Margaret of Sun City, Ariz. A brother, Ike Erwin preceded him in death. Services were held in Belvidere with burial in the Belvidere Cemetery.

Eskew, George W.

Services for George W. Eskew, brother of Gene Eskew of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home, Girard. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Eskew, of Girard, died Saturday, February 20, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 81 years old on January 20. He retired from military service, having spent 20 years with the Navy and the Coast Guard and 10 years with the Civil Service. He was born in Buffalo Hart, a son of Elsworth Sherman and Mabel Ann McHenry Eskew. He married Eilleen Peat in 1943 in Carlinville. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Katherine Bristo, Janice Chorn, both of Girard, Elizabeth Hensey of Springfield; sisters, Evelyn Lutz of Auxvasse, Mo., Helen Feytag and Dorothy Kates, both of Carlinville, Mildred Brown of Port Richey, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Eskew, James

Graveside services for James Eskew, of Nokomis, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 11 to 12:30 p.m. in Stiehl - Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis. Mr. Eskew died at 2:42 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. born in St. Louis, he was 73 years old on October 1.

Eskra, Mertha G.

Services for Mertha G. Eskra, of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Bass Funeral Home there with the Rev. Father David Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memroials be directed to the American Lung Association or Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Louis. Mrs. Eskra died at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 21, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 82 years old on December 29. She resided in Hillsboro most of her life and was a member of the Royal Neighbors. She was born in Witt, a daughter of Louis and Mathilda Bourke Pogue. She married Andy Leo Eskra on February 29, 1936, in Newton. He died February 9, 1984. Surviving are daughters, Martha Schaefer and husband Robert of Worden, Peggy Eskra of Hillsboro; and two grandchildren, Matthew Schaefer and Mark Eskra.

Essman, Elberta

Elberta Essman, formerly of Nokomis, died Sunday, February 14, 1999, in Watseka. She was 92 years old on August 23. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Frank and Bertha Hardy Kettelkamp, and graduated from Nokomis High School in 1924. She also graduated from Brown's Business School in St. Louis. She married the Rev. Clarence H. Essman on September 21, 1927, in Nokomis. They served many churches throughout Illinois. He died October 19, 1981. Surviving are two children, Phyllis Walsh and Kenneth Essman, both of Gilman; a sister, five grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Estell, Opal C.

Opal Clotfelter Estell, formerly of Hillsboro, died Saturday, October 30, 1999, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She was 90 years old on September 12. One of six children of Walter and Lizzie Sonleiter Clotfelter, she was reared in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1929. Soon after graduation she went to Detroit and was employed as a secretary until her retirement. On November 20, 1935, she married Elmer Ehlenfeldt. After his death, she married Frank Estell. He also preceded her in death. She was the last of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were brothers, Amos, Jerry and Melvin Clotfelter and sisters, Marian Goodman and Dorothy Case. Services and burial were in Michigan.

Estell, Rocky L.

Services for Rocky Leroy Estell, of Hillsboro, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Dallas White, pastor of the Schram City Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Montgomery West chapter of the American Cancer Society. Mr. Estell died at 4 p.m. Friday, December 24, 1999, in Hillsboro Health Care Center. He was 57 years old on February 22. He was a welder with Fiat - Allis and was also self employed as a carpenter. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, baseball and restoring antique furniture. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Roscoe and Marie Beane Estell. He married Sandra Lee Speed on December 3, 1960, in Litchfield with Justice of the Peace J. Carl Dodds presiding. Surviving are his wife, Sandra; sons, Larry Estell and wife Kathleen of Hillsboro, Steven Estell and wife Tammy of Litchfield; daughter, Pamela McDice and husband Kevin of Hillsboro; step father, Harold Loyd Sr., of Ocala, Fla.; brothers, Donald Estell and wife Anna of Hornsby, Robert Tipsword and wife Vicki of Ocala, Harold Loyd Jr. and wife Toni of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Randy Loyd and wife Peggy of Percy; sisters, Evelyn Odle and husband Paul of Hornsby, Nancy Lang and husband Jim of Hillsboro, Jody Hodges and husband Ralph of Stonington, Jennie Osborn and husband Mike of Litchfield; six grandchildren, Tyler, Bradley, Lauren and Rodney Estell, Nathan and Miranda McDice. Preceding him in death were, besides his parents, infant daughters, Cheryl and Linda Estell; brother, William Estell; and sister, Mary Lou Hollis. Services for Rocky Leroy Estell, of Hillsboro, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Dallas White, pastor of the Schram City Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Bishop, Gary Black, Rich Bolar, Butch Covili, Jim Jackson and Steve Roberts. Following the committal service a meal was provided for family and friends by the VFW Auxiliary. Mr. Estell, 57, died Friday, December 24, in Hillsboro Health Care Center.

Evans, Betty Jo

Services for Betty Jo Evans, mother of Rick Evans of Litchfield, were held at 2 p.m. today in Olmstead Funeral Home, Heber Springs, Arkansas. Burial was in Rosebud Cemetery, Rosebud, Arkansas. Mrs. Evans, of Quitman, Arkansas, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 1998, in Central Arkansas Hospital following a long illness. She was 70 years old. She was born in Rosebud, a daughter of Joe and Lucille DuPriest. She married Robert Eugene Evans in 1946 in Rosebud. He survives. Surviving also, besides Rick Evans and his wife Jamie, are another son, Bobby Evans of North Little Rock, Arkansas; daughters, Lisa Tharp and husband Allan of Quitman, Debbie Stone and husband Ricky of North Little Rock; sisters, Charlsie Roberts and Freda Moon, both of Arkansas; and seven grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a son, Eugene in infancy.

Evans, Grace Ann

Grace Ann Evans, formerly of Litchfield, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac. She was 99 years old on July 29. A resident of Springfield for 55 years, she worked for more than 33 years in women's ready to wear. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of William E. and Mary A. Mecham Frazier. Her husband, John T. Evans, died in 1976. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara L. Lowenthal of Palm City, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Lt. Col. Jack T. Evans and a daughter, Mary A. Pfeiffer. Services were held today in Rochester. Burial was in the Rochester Cemetery. Wilson Park Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evans, Richard K.

Richard K. "Dick" Evans, formerly of Hillsboro and a former Montgomery County Sheriff deputy, died Sunday, September 27, 1998, in his home at Lake of Egypt. He was 55 years old on March 7. He began a long career in law enforcement with the sheriff's department in 1968, and was accepted to the Illinois Bureau of Investigation Academy in 1970. He served as office manager of the Department of Criminal Investigation until 1993 when he was given the command of District 22 at Ulin. In 1995, he was transferred to District 13, DuQuoin, where he served in various capacities. At the time of his death, he held the rank of lieutenant. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1961 and attended Louisiana State University before enlisting in the Army. After his military service, he completed a degree in political science at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Kenneth and Rachael Maninflor Evans. He married Dawn Marie Pritchett on September 27, 1997. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Kyle Richard Evans, a student at Murray State University, Collin Roger Evans of Carterville; his mother, Rachael Evans of Vandalia; brother, Jerry Evans of Vandalia. Other survivors include a step daughter, Katie Pritchett of Addison and a step son, Zachaus Pritchett of Palatine. Services will be held Wednesday morning in Marion with burial in McKinney Chapel Cemetery at Lake of Egypt. Meredith Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements.

Everett, Betty Sue

Services for Betty Sue Everett, of Nokomis, will be held at noon Friday in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. David Ziegenbein, pastor of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church of rural Raymond. Burial will be in Cress Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service. Mrs. Everett died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 63 years old last April 12. She resided in the Hillsboro and Nokomis areas all of her life and worked in area nursing homes and at Hillsboro Hospital in the housekeeping departments. She was born in Kentucky, a daughter of Collins and Rose Grooms Tarver. She married Kenneth Everett on May 28, 1969, in Hillsboro. He survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Mary Jones and husband Sean of Nokomis; brother, Bobby Tarver of Lansing, Mich.; sisters, Emma Jean Rushing, Barbara Oberle, both of Louisianna, Lorreane of Michigan; one grandchild, Savannah Marie Jones of Nokomis. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Patty Sue Everett and a grandchild, Stephanie Porter.

Eyman, Lillian J.

Services for Lillian J. Eyman, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Hough Colonial Home, Morrisonville, with the Rev. Jim Thomson officiating. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Cancer Fund. Mrs. Eyman died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 1999, in St. Vincent's Memorial Hospital, Taylorville. She was 94 years old last December 31. She worked for the Brown Shoe Company and was a telephone operator in Litchfield in her early years. After she and her husband moved to Morrisonville, she worked at the Illiopolis Munitions plant then at a dress factory in Kincaid and as a telephone operator in Morrisonville. She was also a cook at the high school cafeteria. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Roseland Chapter 736 of Owaneco and Rebekah Orient Lodge 2 of Palmer. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Peter W. and Mary Olive Ray McDaniel. She married Clarence E. "Heavy" Eyman on April 16, 1924. He died December 26, 1976. Surviving are their five children, Warren Eyman and wife Charlotte of Little Rock, Ark., Irene Kent and husband William, Jean McKinney and husband Charles, Albert Eyman and wife Beverly, all of Morrisonville, Mary Harper and husband John of Assumption; and 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two sisters and a grandson, Benjamin Kent on August 17,1996.

Fairless, Darrell G.

Services for Darrell Gene Fairless, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Mallicoat of Jacksonville officiating. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be private in the Elm Lawn Cemetery of Litchfield. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the National Kidney Foundation. Mr. Fairless, of rural Raymond, died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 59 years old on January 27. He owned and operated Fairless News Stand and Hobby Shop at 304 North State for a number of years. Previously, he worked at Brown Show Company, Zimmermann Equipment Company and The Milnot Company. He was a 1957 graduate of Gillespie High School and a 1979 graduate of Lincoln Land Community College in 1979. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield. He raised pigeons and game birds, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was born in Alton, a son of Robert and Margaret Squires Fairless. He married Charlene June Perrine on December 23, 1960, in Wood River. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Teresa Costley and husband Christopher of Glen Carbon; sister, Marcella Webb of Litchfield; and four grandchildren, Kimberly, Melanie and Andrea Costley and Austin Fairless. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Cynthia J. Fairless - Davis; brothers, Donald Chapman, John, James, Carl and Milton Fairless and a sister, Mildred Fairless. Services for Darrell Gene Fairless, of Raymond, were held at 11 a.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Mallicoat of Jacksonville officiated. Michelle Sweet was the organist. Mr. Fairless, 59, died Tuesday, October 26, in Memorial Medical Center.

He was a systems analyst with the U.S. Department of Agriculture before he retired, a member of the Gillespie Country Club and of SS. Simon and Jude Church. He was born in Livingston, a son of John and Kate Soffranco Falat. He married Frances Schwappach on March 3, 1946, in Benld. She died June 16, 1984. Surviving are a son, Richard J. Falat and wife Linda of Carbondale; daughter, Patricia J. Sarver and husband Craig of Kansas City, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Matthew Falat of San Antonio, Texas, Amanda, Mary Fran and Mitchell Falat, all of Carbondale, and Michael Server of Kansas City, Mo. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Constance Falat and brothers, John and George Falat.

He worked in structural steel fabrication in St. Louis and retired as foreman. He was born in Collinsville, a son of Frank and Victoria Pomatto Faletti. His wife, the former Frances Sobosinski, died January 1, 1993. Surviving are sons, Peter Faletti of Atlanta, Ga., Richard Faletti of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Frances Hair and Marguerite Griva, both of Benld; and three grandchildren, Marc of Austin, Texas, Carla and Russell Faletti of Dallas.

She was 94 years old on March 21. She taught at Edison School and also did substitute work. She also taught for several years at the junior high school in the EMH room. She lived in Taylor Springs for about 5 years before moving to Hillsboro in 1933. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the church Altar and Rosary Society; Hillsboro area chapter of Business and Professional Women, Audubon Society, Hillsboro Hospital Auxiliary and the Retired Teachers Association of Montgomery County. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of John and Caroline Derganz DeFlorian. She married Ludwig Faletti on June 30, 1928, in Joliet. He died August 5, 1983. The last of her family, she is survived by several cousins. Preceding her in death besides her husband were sons, Raymond and Norman, both in infancy; a brother, Elmer DeFlorian in 1925; her father in 1949 and mother in 1963.

Faller, Robert A.

Robert A. Faller, father of Donald T. Faller of Butler, died Monday, September 14, 1998, in Sara Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon. He was 69 years old. Surviving also are two other sons, Steve Faller of Mattoon and Mark Faller of Springfield; a brother, Thomas Faller of Springfield; sister, Betty Carter of Kansas City, Mo.; and eight grandchildren. She resided for most of her life in the Litchfield area and worked at the American Smeltery in Taylor Springs, the glass factory in Schram City, St. Francis Hospital and also farmed in the Donnellson and Litchfield areas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donnellson and Royal Neighbors. She was born in Coal City, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Wendell Schmitt. Her husband, Robert Fansler, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Robert Beckham and wife Anne Mae of Litchfield; daughters, Elizabeth House of Litchfield, Martha Clayton and husband Marshall of High Ridge, Mo.; 16 grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, John C. Maguire; brothers, Fed and John Schmitt; sisters, Martha Hutton and Emma Janus; a grandson, Richard Clayton, and a great great grandchild, Zachary Hudzik. Her husband, Andrew Farnham, died in 1972. A brother, Anthony DeLaurent, preceded her in death. He was born in Ltichfield, a son of George and Bertha Josephine Emmons Eppinger. He married Louise Orris in 1947. She survives. Eppinger and wife Lorene; Robert Lee Eppinger, all of Gillespie; another daughter, Jo Ellen Hall and husband Don of Bethalto; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Olive Township of Macoupin County, a daughter of Frank and Dora Heien Keiser. She married Fred L. Ernst on September 4, 1949, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. He survives. Surviving also are daughters, Karen Ruschhaupt and husband Lawrence of Staunton, Marilyn Ernst of Springfield; two grandchildren, Tim and Mark Ruschhaupt of Staunton. She was a teacher in Bond County Community Unit District 2 since 1974, and was teaching third grade in the Sorento school. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the women's group there, the Kessinger American Legion Auxiliary Unit 713 of Sorento, New Douglas Old Settler Community Club, P.T.O. of New Douglas and the Sorento - Highland Band Parents Association. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Clarence and Reba Dove Wall. She married Harold A. Ernst on September 19, 1980, in New Douglas. He survives. Surviving also are a daughter and son, Tammy and David Ernst, both at home; her mother, Reba Wall of Sorento; sister, Linda Niehaus and husband Don of Donnellson. Her father, Clarence Wall, preceded her in death.

Ernst, Lawrence W.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Grantfor United Church of Christ or the Grantfork Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Ernst died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday in Hampton Nursing Care at Alhambra. He was 89 years old on September 30, and an Army veteran. He was a farmer all of his life. In his early years he hauled milk and helped with the trashing. He and his brother farmed near Raymond. He and his wife, Velma, raised dairy, other livestock and grain in an area bounded by Leaf, Alhambra, Saline and Marine Townships in Madison County. They retired at age 65 but continued to live on the farm until moving to Hampton Nursing Care in 1995. He was one of the founders of the Highland Community School Unit District 5, serving on the new shcool board from 1950 to 1965 and as board president from 1957 to 1965. He enjoyed hunting, tinkering, restoring tractors and repairing furniture. He was a member of the Grantfork United Church of Christ, Churchmen's Brotherhood, founding member of the Grantfork Volunteer Fire Department, and member and director of the Madison County Farm Bureau. He was born in New Douglas, a son of Charles William and Lizzie Adams Ernst. He married Velma Dorothea Kruse on February 26, 1935, in New Douglas. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Kenneth Ernst and wife Judith of Highland, Larry Ernst and wife Vicki of Nashville; daughter, Ruth Ann Ernst of Dallas, Texas; brother, Erwin Ernst and wife Addie of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Others suviving include a foster brother, John Eppenheimer of Alton. Preceding him in death were sisters, Ann LeDuc, Lydia Peters, Lynn Chartrand, Josephine Fielner and brothers, Albert, Louis and Walter Ernst and William Ernst in infancy.

Zion Lutheran Church, she was baptized there on December 22, 1907 by the Rev. Nottbohm and confirmed on March 25, 1923 by the Rev. Hofhenke. She was a gradue of Illinois State Teachers College, Normal, and a 1925 graduate of Mt. Olive High School. She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Jacob L. and Janna Weerts Fuchs. She married Emil H. Ernst on June 24, 1945, in Mt. Olive by the Rev. Hofhenke. Mr. Ernst died September 2, 1980. Surviving is a sister, Dorothy Fuchs of Mt. Olive. Other survivors include a nephew, David Fuchs of Troy, Mich; niece, Linda Fuchs of Novi, Mich.; and a sister in law, Alma Fuchs of Sterling Heights, Mich. Services for Margaret Dorothy Ernst, of Mt. Surviving also are a daughter, Tami Watkins and husband Wayne, and two grandchildren, Scott and Tiffany Watkins, all of Gillespie. Preceding her in death were brothers, Charles and John Meno.

Erwin, Charles R.

Charles R. Erwin, brother of Bonnie Baron and Betty Oakley of Taylor Springs, died Wednesday, October 14, 1998, in Beloit, Wisconsin, after suddenly becoming ill. He resided in Rockford, Ill., and 70 years old on August 28, and an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre and of the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for 35 years before retiring in 1991. He was employed by Cassens Transport of Belvidere. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Ira D. and Hattie Osborn Erwin, and was twice married. He married Mary G. Foster on January 14, 1955, in Paducah, Ky. She died. He married Judith E. Larson Aves on May 14, 1989, in Belvidere. She survives. Surviving also are four sons, two daughters and six grandchildren, none from the local area. Also surviving are a brother, Roy Erwin and wife Margaret of Sun City, Ariz. A brother, Ike Erwin preceded him in death. Services were held in Belvidere with burial in the Belvidere Cemetery.

He retired from military service, having spent 20 years with the Navy and the Coast Guard and 10 years with the Civil Service. He was born in Buffalo Hart, a son of Elsworth Sherman and Mabel Ann McHenry Eskew. He married Eilleen Peat in 1943 in Carlinville. She survives. She married Andy Leo Eskra on February 29, 1936, in Newton. He died February 9, 1984. Essman, Elberta

Elberta Essman, formerly of Nokomis, died Sunday, February 14, 1999, in Watseka. She was 92 years old on August 23. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Frank and Bertha Hardy Kettelkamp, and graduated from Nokomis High School in 1924. She also graduated from Brown's Business School in St. Louis. She married the Rev. Clarence H. Essman on September 21, 1927, in Nokomis. They served many churches throughout Illinois. He died October 19, 1981. Surviving are two children, Phyllis Walsh and Kenneth Essman, both of Gilman; a sister, five grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Estell, Opal C.

Opal Clotfelter Estell, formerly of Hillsboro, died Saturday, October 30, 1999, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She was 90 years old on September 12. One of six children of Walter and Lizzie Sonleiter Clotfelter, she was reared in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1929. Soon after graduation she went to Detroit and was employed as a secretary until her retirement. On November 20, 1935, she married Elmer Ehlenfeldt. After his death, she married Frank Estell. He also preceded her in death. She was the last of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were brothers, Amos, Jerry and Melvin Clotfelter and sisters, Marian Goodman and Dorothy Case. Services and burial were in Michigan.

Mrs. Evans, of Quitman, Arkansas, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 1998, in Central Arkansas Hospital following a long illness. She was 70 years old. She was born in Rosebud, a daughter of Joe and Lucille DuPriest. She married Robert Eugene Evans in 1946 in Rosebud. He survives. Surviving also, besides Rick Evans and his wife Jamie, are another son, Bobby Evans of North Little Rock, Arkansas; daughters, Lisa Tharp and husband Allan of Quitman, Debbie Stone and husband Ricky of North Little Rock; sisters, Charlsie Roberts and Freda Moon, both of Arkansas; and seven grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a son, Eugene in infancy.

Evans, Grace Ann

Grace Ann Evans, formerly of Litchfield, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac. She was 99 years old on July 29. A resident of Springfield for 55 years, she worked for more than 33 years in women's ready to wear. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of William E. and Mary A. Mecham Frazier. Her husband, John T. Evans, died in 1976. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara L. Lowenthal of Palm City, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Lt. Col. Jack T. Evans and a daughter, Mary A. Pfeiffer. Services were held today in Rochester. Burial was in the Rochester Cemetery. Wilson Park Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evans, Richard K.

Richard K. "Dick" Evans, formerly of Hillsboro and a former Montgomery County Sheriff deputy, died Sunday, September 27, 1998, in his home at Lake of Egypt. He was 55 years old on March 7. He began a long career in law enforcement with the sheriff's department in 1968, and was accepted to the Illinois Bureau of Investigation Academy in 1970. He served as office manager of the Department of Criminal Investigation until 1993 when he was given the command of District 22 at Ulin. In 1995, he was transferred to District 13, DuQuoin, where he served in various capacities. At the time of his death, he held the rank of lieutenant. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1961 and attended Louisiana State University before enlisting in the Army. After his military service, he completed a degree in political science at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Kenneth and Rachael Maninflor Evans. He married Dawn Marie Pritchett on September 27, 1997. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Kyle Richard Evans, a student at Murray State University, Collin Roger Evans of Carterville; his mother, Rachael Evans of Vandalia; brother, Jerry Evans of Vandalia. Other survivors include a step daughter, Katie Pritchett of Addison and a step son, Zachaus Pritchett of Palatine. Services will be held Wednesday morning in Marion with burial in McKinney Chapel Cemetery at Lake of Egypt. Meredith Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements.

Everett, Betty Sue

Services for Betty Sue Everett, of Nokomis, will be held at noon Friday in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. David Ziegenbein, pastor of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church of rural Raymond. Burial will be in Cress Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service. Mrs. Everett died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 63 years old last April 12. She resided in the Hillsboro and Nokomis areas all of her life and worked in area nursing homes and at Hillsboro Hospital in the housekeeping departments. She was born in Kentucky, a daughter of Collins and Rose Grooms Tarver. She married Kenneth Everett on May 28, 1969, in Hillsboro. He survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Mary Jones and husband Sean of Nokomis; brother, Bobby Tarver of Lansing, Mich.; sisters, Emma Jean Rushing, Barbara Oberle, both of Louisianna, Lorreane of Michigan; one grandchild, Savannah Marie Jones of Nokomis. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Patty Sue Everett and a grandchild, Stephanie Porter.

Eyman, Lillian J.

Services for Lillian J. Eyman, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Hough Colonial Home, Morrisonville, with the Rev. Jim Thomson officiating. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Cancer Fund. Mrs. Eyman died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 1999, in St. Vincent's Memorial Hospital, Taylorville. She was 94 years old last December 31. She worked for the Brown Shoe Company and was a telephone operator in Litchfield in her early years. After she and her husband moved to Morrisonville, she worked at the Illiopolis Munitions plant then at a dress factory in Kincaid and as a telephone operator in Morrisonville. She was also a cook at the high school cafeteria. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Roseland Chapter 736 of Owaneco and Rebekah Orient Lodge 2 of Palmer. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Peter W. and Mary Olive Ray McDaniel. She married Clarence E. "Heavy" Eyman on April 16, 1924. He died December 26, 1976. Surviving are their five children, Warren Eyman and wife Charlotte of Little Rock, Ark., Irene Kent and husband William, Jean McKinney and husband Charles, Albert Eyman and wife Beverly, all of Morrisonville, Mary Harper and husband John of Assumption; and 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two sisters and a grandson, Benjamin Kent on August 17,1996.

Fairless, Darrell G.

Services for Darrell Gene Fairless, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Mallicoat of Jacksonville officiating. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be private in the Elm Lawn Cemetery of Litchfield. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the National Kidney Foundation. Mr. Fairless, of rural Raymond, died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 59 years old on January 27. He owned and operated Fairless News Stand and Hobby Shop at 304 North State for a number of years. Previously, he worked at Brown Show Company, Zimmermann Equipment Company and The Milnot Company. He was a 1957 graduate of Gillespie High School and a 1979 graduate of Lincoln Land Community College in 1979. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield. He raised pigeons and game birds, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was born in Alton, a son of Robert and Margaret Squires Fairless. He married Charlene June Perrine on December 23, 1960, in Wood River. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Teresa Costley and husband Christopher of Glen Carbon; sister, Marcella Webb of Litchfield; and four grandchildren, Kimberly, Melanie and Andrea Costley and Austin Fairless. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Cynthia J. Fairless - Davis; brothers, Donald Chapman, John, James, Carl and Milton Fairless and a sister, Mildred Fairless. Services for Darrell Gene Fairless, of Raymond, were held at 11 a.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Mallicoat of Jacksonville officiated. Michelle Sweet was the organist. She accompanied the vocalist, Shirley Edwards, while she sang "Just As I Am." Eulogy was given by Melanie Costley, granddaughter of Mr. Fairless. Committal service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Rev. David Perrine officiated. Following the committal service a dinner was held for the family and friends in the family's home. Mr. Fairless, 59, died Tuesday, October 26, in Memorial Medical Center.

Falat, Joseph A.

Services for Joseph A. Falat, of Gillespie, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, in SS. Simon and Jude Church there with the Rev. Father Larry Auda officiating. Burial will be in Benld City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to SS. Simon and Jude Church. Mr. Falat died at 8:25 a.m. Friday, June 11, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 77 years old on October 7, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a systems analyst with the U.S. Department of Agriculture before he retired, a member of the Gillespie Country Club and of SS. Simon and Jude Church. He was born in Livingston, a son of John and Kate Soffranco Falat. He married Frances Schwappach on March 3, 1946, in Benld. She died June 16, 1984. Surviving are a son, Richard J. Falat and wife Linda of Carbondale; daughter, Patricia J. Sarver and husband Craig of Kansas City, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Matthew Falat of San Antonio, Texas, Amanda, Mary Fran and Mitchell Falat, all of Carbondale, and Michael Server of Kansas City, Mo. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Constance Falat and brothers, John and George Falat.

Faletti, Peter P.

Services for Peter Paul Faletti, of Benld, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Father Larry Auda officiating. Burial will be in Benld City Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Benld. The family suggests memorials be directed to the church. Mr. Faletti died at 1:50 a.m. today, Friday, November 26, 1999, in the home of his sister in Benld. He was 82 years old on April 8, and an Army veteran. He worked in structural steel fabrication in St. Louis and retired as foreman. He was born in Collinsville, a son of Frank and Victoria Pomatto Faletti. His wife, the former Frances Sobosinski, died January 1, 1993. Surviving are sons, Peter Faletti of Atlanta, Ga., Richard Faletti of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Frances Hair and Marguerite Griva, both of Benld; and three grandchildren, Marc of Austin, Texas, Carla and Russell Faletti of Dallas.

Faletti, Regina Augusta

Services for Regina Augusta Faletti, of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Patton Memorial Home there with the Rev. Father David Schmidt, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Hillsboro Public Library or to Adopt A Pet. Mrs. Faletti died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 94 years old on March 21. She taught at Edison School and also did substitute work. She also taught for several years at the junior high school in the EMH room. She lived in Taylor Springs for about 5 years before moving to Hillsboro in 1933. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the church Altar and Rosary Society; Hillsboro area chapter of Business and Professional Women, Audubon Society, Hillsboro Hospital Auxiliary and the Retired Teachers Association of Montgomery County. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of John and Caroline Derganz DeFlorian. She married Ludwig Faletti on June 30, 1928, in Joliet. He died August 5, 1983. The last of her family, she is survived by several cousins. Preceding her in death besides her husband were sons, Raymond and Norman, both in infancy; a brother, Elmer DeFlorian in 1925; her father in 1949 and mother in 1963.

Faller, Robert A.

Robert A. Faller, father of Donald T. Faller of Butler, died Monday, September 14, 1998, in Sara Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon. He was 69 years old. Surviving also are two other sons, Steve Faller of Mattoon and Mark Faller of Springfield; a brother, Thomas Faller of Springfield; sister, Betty Carter of Kansas City, Mo.; and eight grandchildren. Services will be held in Mattoon on Thursday with burial in Calvary Cemetery there. Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon is in charge of arrangements.

Fansler, Helen P.

Funeral arrangements for Helen P. Fansler are pending at Meinschein Funeral Home, Litchfield. Mrs. Fansler, 96, died Saturday, July 31, in Des Peren Hospital, St. Louis. Services for Helen Pauline Fansler, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Meinschein Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Johnson of Union Avenue Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Mrs. Fansler, of High Ridge, Mo., died at 7:50 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in DesPeren Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. She was 96 years old on November 17. She resided for most of her life in the Litchfield area and worked at the American Smeltery in Taylor Springs, the glass factory in Schram City, St. Francis Hospital and also farmed in the Donnellson and Litchfield areas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donnellson and Royal Neighbors. She was born in Coal City, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Wendell Schmitt. Her husband, Robert Fansler, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Robert Beckham and wife Anne Mae of Litchfield; daughters, Elizabeth House of Litchfield, Martha Clayton and husband Marshall of High Ridge, Mo.; 16 grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, John C. Maguire; brothers, Fed and John Schmitt; sisters, Martha Hutton and Emma Janus; a grandson, Richard Clayton, and a great great grandchild, Zachary Hudzik. Services for Helen Pauline Fansler, formerly of Litchfield, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Meinshcein Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Johnson of Union Avenue Christian Church officiated. Burial was in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were William Thomas Beckham, Floyd Rodell Beckham, Floyd Rodell Beckham Jr., Terry Bruce Clayton, Tracy Dean Clayton, Roger Scott Clayton, Kevin York Clayton, Michael Elliot Moore. Mrs. Fansler, 96, died Saturday, July 31, in St. Louis.

Farnham, Dorothy

Funeral arrangements for Dorothy Farnham, of Wilsonville, are pending at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. Mrs. Farnham, 82, died at 12:02 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Farnham, of Wilsonville, will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Holy Cross Church there by the Rev. Father Bob Porter. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Benld City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to Staunton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Farnham died at 12:02 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. She was 82 years old on January 31. She worked for the Illinois Department of Finance for many years before retiring in 1978. She was born in South Wilmington, Ill., a daughter of Anton F. and Pauline Cerutti De Laurent. Her husband, Andrew Farnham, died in 1972. A brother, Anthony DeLaurent, preceded her in death. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Denise DeLaurent Thetard of Oak Park, Renee DeLaurent of Carlinville, Marc DeLaurent of St. Louis and David DeLaurent of Gillespie.
