Marguerette A. (Marty) Graczyk, formerly of Nokomis, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur. She was 71 years old on December 9. She was a nurse's aide for many years. born in Nokomis, she was a daughter of Raymond and Goldie Crowder Rigel. Surviving are sons, Ralph Graczyk of Decatur, John Burkhart of Sparta; sister, Mary Golden of Decatur; and a granddaughter, Halley Danielle Burkhart. A brother preceded her in death. Interment was in Linwood Cemetery at Pana.

Mrs. Graden died at 8:23 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 87 yeares old on April 24. She was a member of St. Mark's Church and the Thrifty Club of Nokomis. She was born in Montgomery County, a daughter of Jacob and Clara Doerr Ruppert. She married Paul Graden on February 24, 1934, in Christian County. He died February 19, 1980. Surviving are sisters, Helen Mindrup, Dorris Wexstten, both of Nokomis; brothers, Irwin Ruppert of Tallas City, Mich., and Delmar Ruppert of Three Rivers, Mich. Preceding her in death were a sister, Lela Schwartzly and a brother, Chester Ruppert.

Mrs. Graham died Sunday, June 27, 1999, in Tanbark Health Care at Lexington, Ky. She was 95 years old. She taught in country schools in the Peoria and Southern Illinois area, and at one time taught sewing for the Singer Company. She was a member of the Lafayette Christian Church. She was born in Montgomery County, a daughter of Charles and Winnie Schneider Miller. She married Ted Graham on September 7, 1924, in Hillsboro. he died in 1973. Surviving are a son, John R. Graham and wife Garnetta of Lexington; brother, John F. Miller and wife Mabel of O'Fallon; grandchildren, John A. Graham of Versailles, Ky., Jean A. Johnson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; step grandchildren, Dena Keller of Frankfort, Ky., and Ricky Keller of Harrodsburg, Ky.

Funeral Mass for Leonard B. Graiff, formerly of Staunton, will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Livingston by the Rev. Father George Radosevich. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Sacred Heart Church Restoration Fund. Mr. Graiff died at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 1999, in Houston Hospital, Northwest, Houston, Texas. He was 65 years old last December 16. He was a research advisor in automotive fuels for Shell Oil Company, Texas, for 40 years before retiring July 1, 1998. He was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Texas and a committee member in the Society of Automotive Engineers. He earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1959. He was born in Staunton, a son of Silvio and Julia Warlock Graiff. He married Arlene Walsh on September 14, 1963, in Warrington, Cheshire, England. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Lisa Graiff of Dallas, Texas, Laura Graiff of Houston; a son, Phillip Graiff of Dallas; his mother, Julia Graiff of Washington, Ill.; sister, Esther Torry and husband Raymond of Washington. Preceding him in death was his father, Silvio Graiff.

Services for John Granger, Jr., formerly of Benld, were held at 10 this morning in Crawford Holden Funeral Home, Jerseyville. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Heart Association. Mr. Granger, of Jerseyville, died unexpectedly at 10:58 a.m. Monday, November 9, 1998, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was 82 years old on April 13. He was a field engineer for Shell Oil Company, Roxana, for 35 years before he retired. He was born in Mt. Clare, a son of John, Sr., and Freida Montgomery Granger. He married Helen Grabner on December 22, 1937, in Mt. Clare. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Benld where they reared their family. Four years ago they moved to Jerseyville. Surviving are his wife, Helen; a daughter, Jacqueline West of Murrieta, Calif.; son, John James Granger of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a sister, Eileen Anderson of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Clarence Granger and Robert in infancy.

She was born in Gillespie, a daughter of William and Josephine Lemay Taylor. Her husband, John Grassel, died in 1943. Surviving is a sister, Mildred Glassmeyer of Moro. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Leo and Eva Raynor, Alice and Gene Pinkston, all of Gillespie. Preceding her death were sisters Ladean Black and Wilhelmina Raynor Perrine.

Herman H. Grassell, formerly of Gillespie, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, in Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in Bollingbrook. He was 81 years old on July 23, and an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Grassell, of Romeoville, worked as a chef at varius locations in the Chicago area. He was born in Gillespie. Surviving are his wife, Grace; sisters, Elizabeth Morgan and Theodora Broverman, both of Taylorville; a brother, William R. Grassell of Hoffman Estates. Committal service was held Tuesday in Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Mr. Grauer, of Kincaid, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, June 15, 1998, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 73 years old on December 4, and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a coal miner and retired in December 1981 as a foreman at the Consolidated Coal Company mine at Coffeen. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kincaid, American Legion Post 904 of Kincaid and VFW Post 4495 of Taylorville. He was born in Kincaid, a son of William C. and Nettie R. Rhodes Grauer. He married Betty G. "Gerry" Meacham on March 21, 1944, in St. Charles, Mo. She survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife and brother, are sons, Bill Grauer of Kincaid, Gregory Grauer and wife Patricia of Franklin, Ky.; brother Dorice Grauer of Litchfield, and four grandchildren. Three brothers, Ernest, Robert and Lavern Grauer, preceded him in death.

She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Gilbert and Robbie Lovorn Barr, and graduated from Nokomis High School in 1953. Surviving besides her father are her husband, Hugo Greco of North Riverside; a step daughter and two step grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her mother and a brother, Rex Barr. Services were held in Riverside. Entombment was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, St. Mark's Corridor.

Mrs. Green died at 11:35 a.m. December 3, 1999, in Ridgewood Health Care Center, Jasper, Ala. She was 100 years old on July 9. She had resided in Jasper for the past eight years. Most of her younger years were spent in the Sorento and Fairfield areas. She also resided in Lakeland, Fla., for 26 years. She was born in Sorento, a daughter of William J. and Sally Gill Jestes. She married Lloyd L. Green on October 18, 1919 in Hillsboro. He died July 5, 1962. Surviving is a son, William "Bill" Green and wife Betty of Jasper. Preceding her in death were a son, Lloyd L. Green Jr. in 1981 and two sisters, Irene Griffiths and Irma Shult.

Gordon L. Green , brother of James Green of Sorento, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in Utlaut Memorial Hospital, Green ville. He was 78 years old last May 20, and an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for Pet Milk Company at the Green ville plant until it closed and then worked for the Pierron Farmers Co-op Elevator in Pierron before retiring in 1982. He was born in Old Ripley, a son of Evan and Nettie Thiems Green . He married Ruby Caulk on March 19, 1947, in Green ville; she died November 10, 1977. Surviving, besides his brother, are a daughter, Beverly Scott of Old Ripley; two grandchildren, two great grandchidlren and a step great grandchild. Preceding him in death were brothers, Herbert Thiems, Edward Green ; sisters, Virginia Kerin, Helen Wall, Gloria Clanton.

Mrs. Green died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, August 31, 1998, in her home. She was 33 years old on October 25. She lived in Hillsboro her entire life and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1983. She was employed as a secretary. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of Joseph and Diana Kelly Boston. She married Brad S. Green on July 26, 1986, in Hillsboro. He survives. Surviving also are her father, Joe Boston of Hillsboro; brother, Joe Boston and wife Leslie, also of Hillsboro; maternal grandmother, Betty Kelly of Schram City; paternal grandmother, Isabel Oberle, of Hillsboro. Preceding her in death were her mother, Diana Kelly Boston in 1994; maternal grandfather, Paul L. She was a life long resident of Hillsboro and worked for various businesses in the community as a retail clerk. She also worked for the county clerk, was Montgomery County Democratic Chairman for a time, and a member of the Waveland Presbyterian Church in rural Hillsboro. She was known for her pleasant personality. She was born in Pleasant Mound, a daughter of Arthur and Maude Parker Frank. She was married three times. Her first husband was Ralph Cribfield. Her second husband was Joseph Feraris. She married her third husband, Elbert R. "Bill" Green on February 8, 1980, in Hot Springs, Ark. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Raymond L. Cribfield of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Barbara Lowe and husband Ed of Springfield; nine step children, four grandchildren, 22 step grandchildren, numerous step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, Raymond "Bud" Frank and sisters, Mildred Wiley and Nelda Pullin.

Raymond H. Green , formerly of Morrisonville, died Saturday, February 13, 1999, in Shelbyville Manor. He was 89 years old on July 15, and a veteran of World War II. He formerly farmed in the Morrisonville area and later was a painting contractor in Taylorville. He was born in Morrisonville, a son of Harry and Emma Kilton Green . He married Evelyn Himstedt in 1946, in Taylorville. She died in 1991. Surviving are a son, Brian R. Green of Shelbyville; a daughter, Rita Gooden of Springfield. He was a professional truck driver for Schmidt Truck Lines, Litchfield, before he retired, a member of Teamsters Local 525 of Alton and of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield. He was born in Hornsby, a son of Truman and Irma Atteberry Green walt. He married Athel Marie Williams on September 20, 1947, in the First Baptist Church of Litchfield. She died January 1, 1995. Surviving are sons, Gary A. Green walt and wife Donna of Rapid City, S.D., Steve Green walt and wife Hollie of O'Fallon, Mo., Eddie Green walt of Springfield; daughter, Lisa McGlothlin and husband Gus of Springfield; brother, Dale Green walt and wife Carol of Litchfield; sister, Lois Weatherford and husband Bobby of Litchfield; and six grandchildren. Services for Alan Ray Green walt, of Ltichfield, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Mallicoat, of Jacksonville, officiated. Burial was in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Green walt, 72, died Monday, November 9, in St. Francis Hospital.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Green Hill Cemetery Association. Mr. Green wood died Monday, October 19, 1998, in his home in Vanburensburg. He was 89 years old on July 19. He resided all of his life in the home where he was born, attended Vanburensburg Elementary school and later joined his father in farming. The Green wood Farm was certified as a Centennial Farm on January 6, 1998, having been in the Green wood family for three generations, a total of 116 years. In his younger years he was an avid baseball player as catcher and pitcher. He was a member of the Vanburensburg Community Church and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He was born in Vanburensburg, in South Fillmore Township, a son of William Charles and Rose M. Schentzius Green wood. He married Blanche Everley on March 27, 1943, in Vandalia. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Joyce Faye Peterson of Green wood, Ind., Millie Margaret Gromoll of Decatur; a sister, Caroline Brakenbush of Vandalia; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were sisters, Clara Brackenbush, Ida Anderson and Hulda Brackenbush; brothers, William McKinley Green wood and Raymond Green wood; and a son in law, Dr. Henry Gromoll.

Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery at Rosamond. Mr. Greffe died Saturday, August 15, 1998, in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville. He was 92 years old on February 9. He was a lifeŠlong resident of the Pana and Taylorville ares and worked in both farming and construction before he retired. He was born in Sharpsburg, a son of Dean and Abbie Jane Wilbur Greffe. He married Beatrice Mills in 1925 in Taylorville. She died in 1996. Surviving besides Mrs. Rhodes and her husband Herschel are other daughters, Elaine Gnazzo of Pana, Phyllis Reynolds of Decatur, Judy Warren of Stonington, Linda Falkerson of Topeka, Kan.; brothers, Dale Greffe of Champaign, Karl Greffe of Rochelle, Ronald Greffe of Edinburg, Donald and Virgil Greffe, both of Taylorville; sisters, Rachel Wheeler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Virginia Cowell of Taylorville; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Miss Gregg died at 1:20 p.m. Monday, July 6, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 97 years old on January 19. She worked at the Brown Shoe Company and also did domestic housekeeping for many years. She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church. She was born in North Litchfield, a daughter of Jehiah and Abigail Garrett Gregg. She never married. Surviving are seven nieces, Bernadine Flynn and Alma Waive Schoen, both of Litchfield, Neva Cappo of Collinsville, Naomi Spahnle of Turlock, Calif., Mildred Aileen Rabulovich and Donna Branthaver, both of Springfield, Betty Spencer of Dorchester; a nephew, Gerald A. Gregg of Litchfield; 10 great nieces and 10 great nephews. Preceding her in death were brothers, Ward and Leslie Gregg; sisters, Alberta Nelson and Waunetta Gregg; a nephew, Bernard Gregg Nelson and nieces, Burnice Coady and Beulah Bain.

Mr. Gregg died at 6:56 a.m. Sunday, June 6, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 73 years old on July 9, and a Navy veteran of World War II. During the war he was a radio man and achieved the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 30 years before his retirement, and he was a member of the Raymond Southern Baptist Church. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Leslie A. and Mamie DeSpain Gregg. He married Gracie A. Bettis on March 26, 1977, in Carlinville. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Lois J. Gregg of Tulsa, Okla., Gail A. Bernstein and husband Don of Chesapeake, Va.; a step son, Lindley Krone of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Alma Waive Schoen of Litchfield, Aileen Radulovich, Springfield; and three grandchildren, Nicole Shomidie of Springfield, Stephanie Schnapp of San Francisco, Calif., Dustin Krone of Carlinville. A sister, Burnice Coady, preceded him in death. Services for Gerald Allen Gregg, of Litchfield, were held at 10 this morning in Plummer Funeral Home. Rev. Pallbearers were Dustin Krone, grandson, of Carlinville, Allen Schoen, nephew, of Litchfield, Don Dennison of Morrisonville, Lester Lowe of Litchfield, Leroy Molen of Raymond and Melvin Painter of Litchfield. During the committal service the flag was presented to Mrs. Gracie Gregg by Charles Cress, chaplain of American Legion Post 436, Litchfield. A luncheon for family and friends was provided following the services by the women of the Raymond Southern Baptist Church. Mr. Gregg, 73, died Sunday, June 6, in St. Francis Hospital.

Services for Joan Mathilda Greitak, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Becker and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Barbey officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Mrs. Greitak died at 7:25 a.m. Monday, August 30, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 56 years old on May 26. She was a former cook at the Diamond restaurant and a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. She attended the Zion Grade School and Mt. Olive High School. She enjoyed crafts and the outdoors, and was an avid reader. She was born in San Pedro, Calif., a daughter of Harry and Dolores Luenemann Lichtenthaler. She married John Martin Greitak on December 28, 1973, in the Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. He survives. Surviving also is a son, Gary Gorsich of Mechanicsburg. Following the services a lunch will be provided for family and friends in the Mt. Olive Veterans Hall. Services for Joan Mathilda Grejtak, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 a.m. today in Becker and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. DAniel Barbey officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Musical selections were "Beyond the Sunset," "Amazing Grace" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," played and sung by Ernie Thomack. In addition, a favorite song by Alabama was played, "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You." Pallbearers were Richard Luenemann, Bill Korunka, Bob Gretak Jr., Donnie Nowell, Simon Pomatto and Ken Wise. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Luenemann and David Pomatto. Following the services a lunch was served to the family and friends in the Mt. Olive Veterans Hall. Mrs. Grejtak, 56, died Monday, August 30, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Grenia, Margaret Mary
Margaret Mary Grenia, formerly of Litchfield, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. her remains were donated to Washington Unviersty School of Medicine, St. Louis, and a memorial service will be held in St. Louis at a later date. Mrs. Grenia, of Witt, was 65 years old on April 16. She worked at Echlin Manufacturing for 10 years. She was born in St. Louis, a daughter of Harld Bennett and Mary Ann Sanna Backshies. She married William A. Grenia on December 24, 1958, in St. Louis. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Mike Grenia and wife Luann, Steven GRenia and wife Jackie, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Ronald Backschies of Hermann, Mo.; sisters, Barbara Keen and Charlotte Hanes, both of St. Louis; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Jennifr and Jessica Grenia. Plummer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Griffin, Beulah E.
Graveside service for Beulah Elizabeth Griffin, of Hillsboro, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Compton of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends will gather at Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro, at 9:30 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery. Suggested in lieu of flowers are memorial contributions to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Mrs. Griffin died at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in Hillsboro Health Care Center. She was 87 years old on June 14. She lived in St. Louis for 30 years and worked for Stix - Baer & Fuller department store as a salesman. She then lived in Georgia for three years. She returned to Hillsboro in 1981. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of John Edwin and Emma Catherine Bost Whitlock. She married Russell S. Griffin on December 28, 1929, in Tower Hill. He died May 8, 1967. Surviving are daughters, Joyce Ann Clymer and husband Charles of Lake Worth, Fla., Janet Sue Melkun of Green wich, Conn.; granddaughter, Katrina Ann Torres of Boca Raton, Fla., and a great granddaughter, Samantha Anne Torres. Preceding her in death were brothers, Lloyd, Melvin and Louis Whitlock.
Griffiths, Velma L.
Velma LaVerne Griffiths, mother of Eileen Katich of Gillespie, died Monday, June 14, 1999, in Seiling Nursing Center at Seiling, Okla. She was 71 years old on March 2. While living in Illinois, she worked as a file clerk for the state and was a licensed foster parent. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Girard. She moved to Seiling in 1995. She was born in Modesto, a daughter of James Joseph and Edith Irene Walkington Broffey. Her husband, Lee Griffiths, whom she married in 1948 in Macoupin County, preceded her in death. Surviving are daughters, Janice List of Mason City, Paula Griffiths and Patti Burchmiler, both of Seiling; sons, Freddie Griffiths and wife Sheila of Carlinville, Larry Griffiths and wife Debbie of Riverton; another sister, BErnice Sullivan of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; brother, Donald Broffey of Spring, Texas; 12 grandchildren, a step granddaughter, two foster grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services are being held Friday morning in Seiling at the Redinger Funeral Home. Burial will be in Brumfield Cemeter there.
