Havron, Loretta E.

Services for Loretta Emma Havron, formerly of Hillsboro and Coffeen, were held this morning in Toberman Funeral Home there with the Rev. Tim Woodard officiating. Burial was in Olive Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Havron died Friday, June 4, 1999, in her home in Mattoon. She was 81 years old last July 10. She taught dancing in her home on Vandalia road in Hillsboro at one time, and was a 1935 graduate of Hillsboro High School. She was born in St. Louis, a daughter of Robert T. and Alma Jung Davis. She married Joe Havron on July 10, 1936, in Crown Point, Ind. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last July. Surviving are her husband, Joe of Mattoon; sons, Ronald Havron and wife Charlotte of Hillsboro; daughters, Carole McFarland and husband Joe of Mattoon, Rita Thacker of Mt. Carmel; and seven grandchildren, Scott McFarland wife Lynn, Julie McCleary and husband Brad, Forrest Havron and wife Janet, Harold Havron and wife Billie, Shelli Hadra and husband Brad, Timothy Thacker and wife Heather, Cassie Schneider and husband Brian; and four great grandchildren.

Hawker, Ralph L.

Services for Ralph L. Hawker, of Coffeen, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in McCracken Funeral Home, Pana. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Mr. Hawker died at 6;15 p.m. Monday, October 26, 1998, in Golden Manor Nursing Home, Nokomis. He was 88 years old on April 9. He was an electrician before he retired, member of IBEW Local 146 and the Pana Moose Lodge. He was born in Pana, a son of Arthur "Pete" and Bertha Goodall Hawker. He married Drue Gipson on Sept. 9, 1977, in Coffeen. She survives. Surviving also are several step children; brothers, William "Eddie" Hawker of Clinton, Ind., Charles Hawker of Perrysburg, Ohio; a sister, Mildred Toner of Oak Lawn. Preceding him in death were a step son, three brothers and a sister.

Hawkins, Blanche A.

Services for Blanche Amanda Hawkins, formerly of Hillsboro, were held Friday in Decatur. Burial was in Salem Cemetery there. Mrs. Hawkins died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 1999, in Manor Care Nursing Home, Decatur. She was 82 years old. She was born in Grisham Township, Montgomery County, a daughter of Charles and Mary Logsdon. She married M. Roland Hawkins on September 30, 1936. He died July 15, 1987. Surviving are sons, Charles "Rollie" Hawkins of Decatur, Norman Hawkins of Hernando, Miss.; daughter, Norma Jean Hart of Decatur; sisters, Lois Decker of Hillsboro, Jewel Dohler of Irving, Opal Minteer of Andalusia; brothers, Charles Logsdon of Hillsboro, Dale Logsdon of Livingston; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Hawkins, Eva A.

Graveside service for Eva Augusta Hawkins, formerly of Sorento, will be held at noon Wednesday in Sunnyside Cemetery there with the Rev. Ronald Rhodus officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday in Perfetti Funeral Home, Sorento, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Hawkins died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 1999, in Lake Port Square Nursing Home, Leesburg, Fla. She was 85 years old on October 11. Her husband, Edwin, was the mayor of Sorento for several years. The couple left Sorento in 1957 for Tonkawa, Okla. They built a new home there and conducted a custom combining business. Prior to that they owned school buses and drove for the Sorento school for seven years. Mrs. Hawkins was a 1933 graduate of Green ville High School, member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sorento and in Tonkawa, member of the Royal Neighbors and of the First Baptist Church of Tonkawa. She was born in Sorento, a daughter of James Arthur and Mary Bella Ray Himes, and attended schools there. She married Edwin Leon Hawkins on June 1, 1935. He died March 5, 1986. Surviving are a son, Shirley Leon Hawkins of Leesburg; daughters, Eva Deloris Schwindt of Sacramento, Calif., Mary Ann Moriarty of Owasso, Okla; sisters, Vaughn Neathery of Sorento, Freda Cahoon of Highland; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Hawkins, Mary Alice

Services for Mary Alice Hawkins, formerly of Morrisonville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hough Colonial Home there with the Rev. Clifford Adair officiating. Burial will be in the Nebo City Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday in the funeral home from one hour before the service. Mrs. Hawkins, of Mesa, Ariz., died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, in Mesa. She was 77 years old last July 25. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary of Morrisionville. Her husband, Darrell Hawkins, whom she married on November 14, 1942, died in July 1997. Surviving are a daughter, Alice Hawkins of Mesa; a son, David of Taylorville; one brother, two sisters, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Lillian and one brother.

Haxton, Alex M.

Services for Alex M. Haxton, Jr., formerly of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home, Green ville. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Haxton died at 10:28 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 1999, in his home near Liberty Church in rural Mulberry Grove. He was 83 years old on November 28. He worked for the Big Four Railroad while living in Hillsboro. After retiring from the New York Central Railroad, he moved to Bond County to be near his son. He was born in Carbon, Ind., a son of Alex and Susan Green Haxton. He was reared there and in Terre Haute. Surviving are sons, James Haxton of Mitchell, Leroy Haxton of Edwardsville, Richard Haxton of near Mulberry Grove; a daugther, Romona Woodberry of Ruskin, Fla.; brother, Thomas Haxton of Hillsboro; sisters, Rosemary Meyers of Hillsboro, Virginia Haxton of Springfield; and nine grandchildren. A sister, Cecelia Haxton, preceded him in death.

Hayes, Oral J.

Oral John "Johnson" Hayes, father of Bette Radford of Nokomis, died at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Pana. He was 95 years old on January 25. He was a farmer in the Ramsey area before he retired. He was born in rural Ramsey, a son of Samuel John and Omah Jane Moreland Hayes. He married Augusta Hill on March 20, 1923, in Bingham. She died May 15, 1997. Surviving are sons, Leo and Rex Hayes, both of Ramsey; two other daughters, Roberta Sanders, Barbara Jackson, both of Taylorville;sisters, Freda Denton and Levaughn Hill, both of DeKalb; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren.

Hazdra, Frances Agnes

Services for Frances Agnes Hazdra, of Nokomis, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Louis Catholic Church there with the Rev. Father Carl Schmidt officiating. Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Cemetery, Cary. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Sutton Funeral Home, Nokomis. Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Mrs. Hazdra died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 1999, in St. Vincent's Memorial Hospital, Taylorville. She was 88 years old on September 29. She wasborn in Nokomis, a daughter of George and francis Yazumb Lewiski. Her first husband, Frank Hazdra, died in 1949. She married Joseph Hazdra on May 14, 1932, in Chicago; he died May 28, 1965. Surviving are a son, Robert Hazdra and wife Beverly of Nokomis; step sons, Joe Hazdra and wife Jean, Bernard Hazdra and George Hazdra and wife Shirley, all of Chicago; a step daughter, Dorothy Roth and husband Bob of Chicago; and five grandchildren, Mike and Mark Hazdra of Nokomis, Greg Hazdra of Crystal Lake, Deborah Schneider of Waterloo and Jackie Margis of Gurnee. Preceding her in death were a son, Raymond Hazdra in 1995, three sisters and a brother.

Heath, Creal V.

Funeral Mass for Creal V. "Mike" Heath, of Hillsboro, will be be said at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Agnes Catholic Church by the Rev. Father David Schmidt, pastor of St. Agnes Church, assisted by the Rev. Father Carl Schmidt, pastor of St. John's Catholic Church, Coffeen. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Patton Memorial Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Hillsboro Hospital, American Cancer Society or Masses. Mr. Heath died at 11:20 p.m. Monday, January 4, 1999 in Montgomery Health Care Center, Taylor Springs. He was 80 years old on October 4. He was a free lance artist who specialized in wildlife art. A resident of Hillsboro since 1951, he owned and operated the Zephyr Service Station from 1963 to 1975, did sign painting and lettering from his home and also worked for Square Tool and Die Company in Hillsboro. He was a member of St. Agnes Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, a son of Ersley and Catherine Raus Heath, and graduated from Senn High School in Chicago in 1932. He married Rosland H. Kiefer on May 30, 1941, in Chicago. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Terrence A. Heath and wife Linda of Edwardsville, Michael F. Heath and wife Diane, and John P. Heath, all of Houston, Texas; daughters, Mary C. Bellaver and husband Marvin, and Jane T. Bellaver and husband Melvin, all of Schram City; a brother, Allen Lee Heath of Antioch; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding him in death was a brother in infancy.

Heckford, Elton D.

Elton Drew Heckford, of Sterlington, La., formerly of Litchfield, died June 14, 1999, in the North Monroe Hospital after a brief illness. He was 56 years old, a son of Ernest Lee and Mildred Stotts Heckford, and a 1961 graduate of Litchfield High School. He was a retired electrician, member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and the Maplewood Baptist Church. Surviving are his family in Louisianna, his wife, the former Judy Rogers; daughter, Della Heckford Martin; sons, Ernest Drew Heckford, Darius Robert Heckford, and Drew Randall Heckford; two step children, Rita Fay Heckford, and in Nashville, Tenn., Gary Wayne Howell; and six grandchildren. Others surviving include a sister, Chloteal Heckford Barbour and a brother, Gerald Lee Heckford, both of Parachute, Colo. Services were held in Sterlington with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery at Bastrop, La.

Hefer, Eva M.

Services for Eva M. Hefer, formerly of Staunton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rochester. Burial will be in the Rochester Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Wilson Park Funeral Home, Rochester. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Good Shepherd Church, of which she was a member. Eva M. Hefer, of Rochester, died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville. She was 86 yers old on July 19. She was employed by the Rochester school district in the food service for 17 years before retiring. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Otto R. and Matilda Webb Mull. She married John R. "Jack" Hefer in 1928 in Staunton; he died in 1980. Surviving are a son, Ronald L. Hefer of Auburn; five grandchildren and eight great grandchidlren. Preceding her in death was a daughter, Judy Ealey in 1995.

Heinen Msgr., Paul,

Mass of Christian Burial for Monsignor Paul P. Heinen will be said at 11 a.m. Friday in the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Jerseyville. Bishop Daniel Ryan and priests of the Diocese of Springfield will co-celebrants. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Fieldon. Monsignor Heinen died Monday, June 29, 1998, in Jersey Community Hospital, Jerseyville. He was 94 years old on March 3. He was born in Oberpleis, Germany, a son of Franz and Antonie Mehliss Heinen, and was education in Germany. He was ordained a priest in 1929. He served two churches in Germany before coming to the United States. His first pastorate in this country was in St. Louis parish in Nokomis in 1939. He served a number of other congregations, including SS. Simon and Jude in Gillespie. Among his duties after becoming a monsignor in 1974, were to serve as dean of of the Litchfield Deanery and direct the convent of the Sisters of Mercy in Gillespie. He retired in 1986. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, former member of the Lions Club, hospital board, and marshal of the fair parade, all in Jerseyville. Surviving is a brother, Klemens Heinen of Bonn Hoff, Germany.

Heldebrandt, Dorothy R.

Services for Dorothy R. Heldebrandt, of Nokomis, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Sutton Funeral Home there. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mrs. Heldebrandt died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 79 years old on September 21. She was a tax preparer for Grabbe Tax Service in Nokomis for many years before she retired, and also an upholsterer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nokomis. She was born in Pana, a daughter of William Herman and Alta Lula Seitz Saatkamp. She married Doyle W. Heldebrandt on February 19, 1949, in Mattoon. He died February 4, 1992. Surviving are sons, John Heldebrandt and wife Linda of Nokomis, James Heldebrandt and wife Suzanne of Chatham; brothers, Logan Saatkamp of Alma, Joseph Saatkamp of Nokomis, William Saatkamp of Blue Island; sisters, Mary Sutton of Bloomington, Lola Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz., Lula Niesman of Cicero; nine grandchildren, two step grand children, one great grandson. Preceding her in death was a brother, Raymond.

Hemphill, Mary

Services for Mary Hemphill, of Gillespie, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Kravanya Funeral Home there with the Rev. Ron Brooker officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Staunton. Friends may call on Wednesday in the funeral home from noon until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Gillespie. Mrs. Hemphill died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 93 years old on March 23. She was a seamstress and worked in garment manufacturing before she retired. She was born in Williamson, a daughter of George and Mary Mayernick Bednar. Her first husband, Herman Springer, died October 25, 1956. Her second husband, Earl Hemphill, died January 21, 1973. Surviving are a step son, Robert Hemphill of Colorado and step grandchildren, Don Hemphill of Granite City and Jim Hemphill of Alton. Preceding her in death were sisters, Susan Evans, Ann Milcic, Helen Gereat, Ella Bednar, Lee Skard; brothers, George and John Bednar; and a step son, Maurice Hemphill.

Henderson, Grace Viola

Services for Grace Viola Henderson, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. tony Bell, pastor of St. Timothy United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday in the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Montgomery West Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Henderson died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 1998, in her home in Benld. She was 81 years old on June 15. She was employed as a floral designer by Lammer's Floral Shop in Upper Alton, and had also worked as a cook at the Park Side restaurant in Litchfield and by Western Cartridge Company in Alton. She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church. She was born in Batchtown, a daughter of Grant and Minnie Knuckles Cunningham. She married Kenneth H. Henderson on January 19, 1968, in Litchfield. He died September 7, 1989. Surviving are a daughter, Gracie Welch and husband Maurice of Staunton; sister, Reba Watson of Jerseyville; and five grandchildren, Michael Welch and wife Carol, William A. Welch, David K. Welch, Brian Welch and wife Michele, Malindia K. Pruden and husband Darrell; five great grandchildren. Also surviving are step daughters, Christina Williams and husband Dr. Dan Williams, Becky Graham, all of Kansas City, Mo.; and five step grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three brothers, John, William and Grant Cunningham and two sisters, Ferrell Wallace and Mary Valentine.

Mrs. Hendricks died at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, August 29, 1999, in her home. She was 83 years old on February 9. She was born in Toluca, a daughter of Edward and Clara Triola Marinacci. She married Heye Hendricks on May 10, 1954; he died December 26, 1988. Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Bultema and husband Harry of Gillespie; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Edwina Billings; sisters, Margaret Moruskey, Olympia Marinacci and also a sister and brother in infancy.

Henley, Wilma L.

Services for Wilma L. "BoBo" Larcher Henley, sister of Kenton Hefley of Raymond, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, with the Rev. Howard E. Wise officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Friends amy call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mrs. Henley died Tuesday, August 10, 1999, in St. John's Hospital. She was 85 years old on July 24. She was born in Rountree Township, a daughter of George and Alice Purcell Hefley. She married John B. Larcher in 1931 in Taylorville; he died in 1964. She married Jefferson T. Henley in 1967 in Taylorville; he died in 1987. Surviving besides the brother are daughters, Patricia Heiple of Rochester, JoAnn Janesh of Coalton and a son, Donald Larcher of Jeiseyville along with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Henrichs, Clara M.

Services for Clara M. Henrichs, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Jacoby Wise Funeral Home, Bunker Hill, with the Rev. Dr. George Gude officiating. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Saturday after 9 a.m. Miss Henrichs died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 1998, in Litchfield HealthCare Center. She was 92 years old last November 7. She was born in Dorchester, a daughter of William and Laura Enke Henrichs. Surviving are a twin brother, Clarence Henrichs of Dorchester; a niece, Suzi Henrichs Hull of Geneva, Switzerland and nephews, Lyle Henrichs of Dorchester and Larry Henrichs of Longwood, Fla. A brother, Earl Henrichs, preceded her in death.

Services for John T. Henrichs, of Staunton and formerly of Gillespie, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton, with Paul Mathenia officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Heritage Manor of Staunton. Mr. Henrichs died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, December 24, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. He was 80 years old on January 19. A farmer, he operated the family farm near Gillespie for many years. He retired in 1984. He was a member of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall in Litchfield. He was born in Gillespie, a son of John and Emma Schmidt Henrichs. Surviving are a sister, Mabel Hefer of Staunton and two nieces.

Henry, Josephine

Funeral arrangements for Josephine Henry, of Hillsboro, are incomplete at McCracken Funeral Home, Pana. Mrs. Henry died at 3:20 this morning, Monday, December 6, 1999, in Montgomery Health Care Center, Hillsboro. She was 89 years old on June 11. She lived in Litchfield and Hillsboro most of her life and worked as a sales person at the Boutique by Heslov's in Hillsboro. She was a member of the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church and the Hillsboro Hospital Auxiliary. She was born in Pana, a daughter of W.M. and Anna C. Bryson Curry. She married R.M. Elliott in 1926; he died in 1947. She married Paul Henry in 1949; he died in 1980. Surviving are a daughter, JoAnn Kranich and husband Elliott of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Kevin, Tim and Mike Elliott, Sherry Kranich, Nora Stone; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Preceding her in death were sons, William M. Elliott in 1973, John R. Elliott in 1994, and a granddaughter, Molly Bea Kranich Olson in 1988. Services for Josephine Curry Henry, Hillsboro, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church with the Rev. H. Matthew Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery at Pana. Friends may call on Wednesday from noon until the time of service in the church. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. Mrs. Henry, 89, died Monday, December 6, in Montgomery Health Care Center, Hillsboro. Her obituary was in Monday's edition.

Services for Margaret F. Henry, of Farmersville, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hough Funeral Home, Raymond, with the Rev. Father W.R. Maul officiating. Burial will be in Raymond City Cemetery. Mrs. Henry died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 96 years old on September 7. She was a teacher and a farmer. She was born in Farmersville, a daughter of Leroy and Margaret Anderson Franks. Her husband, Willis E. Henry, died in 1939. She was the last of her family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are a niece and a nephew.

Henry, Marianne

Marianne "Billie" Henry, formerly of Gillespie, died at 6 a.m. Friday, September 17, 1999, in the Desert Hospital at Palm Desert, Calif. She would have been 82 years old on September 18. She had resided in Palm Desert for the past 20 years. She was self employed as a realtor in the Pacific Palasades before her retirement. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois. She was born in Carlinville, a daughter of Harry and Anna Woodman Daley. Surviving are a daughter, Gay Ann Cagney of Palm Desert; brother, Lige Daley of Palm Desert; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Jackson of Benld, William Williams of New York, N.Y., Katie and Kelly Cagney of Palm Desert. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Patti Williams and a brother, Henry Daley. The remains were cremated. No services are scheduled at this time. A memorial dinner for family and friends of the late Marianne "Billie" Daley Henry, formerly of Gillespie, will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday in Bernhardt's Restaurant, Gillespie. Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Henry, of Palm Desert, Calif., died at 6 a.m. Friday, September 17, 1999, in Desert Hospital there. She would have been 82 years old on September 18. She had lived in California for the past 20 years and was self-employed as a realtor there in the Pacific Palasades. She was born in Carlinville, a daughter of Harry and Anna Woodman Daley. Surviving are a son and a daughter, Lige Daley and Gay Ann Cagney, both of Palm Desert, and four grandchidlren, Stephanie Jackson of Benld, William Williams of New York, N.Y., Katie Cagney and Kelly Cagney, both of Palm Desert. Preceding her in death were a daughter, patti Williams and a brother, Henry Daley.

Services for Mamie Muriel Henson, formerly of Raymond, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, with the Rev. Larry O'Dell officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in rural Ramsey. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from one hour before the service. Mrs. Henson, of Springfield, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center there. She was 90 years old on November 11. She and her husband, Joseph, resided in the Raymond area from 1968 to 1979. She was a member of the Raymond Baptist Church. She was born in Louisville, a daughter of Grover C., Sr., and Etta White O'Dell. She married Joseph Burnell Henson on November 15, 1940, in St. Charles, Mo. He died in 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Jan Anderson of Springfield; brother, Grover C. O'Dell of Ramsey; sisters, Marguerite Hosteller of Flora, Adline Doud of Evansville, Ind., Dorothy Holliday and Norma O'Dell of Citrus Grove, Calif., Ethel Mince of Kalamazoo, Mich.; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were an infant son, Gary in 1942, and a brother, Floyd O'Dell.

Herman, Rena Lou

Memorial service for Rena Lou Herman, formerly of Raymond, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 16, in Hough Funeral Home there with the Rev. Herb Goeltzer officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in Asbury Cemetery, Raymond. Miss Herman died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 1998, in Golden Manor Nursing Home, Nokomis. She was 69 years old on January 21. She was born in Harvel, a daughter of the late Roman and Ethel Moomey Herman. She was employed as a bookkeeper in the Springfield, Raymond and Nokomis areas before she retired. She lived in Taylorville for awhile before entering the nursing home. Surviving are three aunts, Pearl Hitchings of Raymond, Hattiemae Ash of Springfield and Frances Herman of Raymond.

Herron, William B.

Services for William B. Herron, a former miner at the Freeman Crown I mine at Farmersville and former fire chief in Auburn, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn, with the Rev. Richard Harre officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery with military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post 277 and VFW Post 8157. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Herron, of Auburn, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in Doctors Hospital, Springfield. He was 75 years old on April 17, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked at the Crown I mine for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Auburn Fire Department for 43 years, serving as fire chief for 15 years. He was a 50 year member of American Legion Post 277, member of VFW Post 8157 of Auburn and a past member of the Land of Lincoln Barber Shop chorus. He was born in Auburn, a son of Cecil and Felicia Shutt Herron. He married Bertha Yuvan in 1946 in Springfield. She survives. Serviving also are a daughter, Irene Kovac of Belleville, Mich.; son, Mike Herron of Stillwater, Okla.; and four grandchildren.

Hertel, Leonard (Jake)

Local services for Leonard "Jake" Hertel, of Hillsboro, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Bass Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Meyer, pastor of the Christian Church of Hillsboro, officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Services will be held in Christopher at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Gilbert Funeral Home. The family will receive friends there from one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Mulkeytown Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Christian Church of Hillsboro or the Hillsboro Sports Complex. Mr. Hertel died at 10:55 p.m. Monday, October 12, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 86 years old on June 7, and an Army veteran of World War II having served from 1943 to 1946. He worked in the coal mining industry. In 1963, he moved to Hillsboro from Mulkeytown to work as a hoisting engineer at the Hillsboro Mine at Coffeen. He retired from the mine in 1978. He was a member of the Hillsboro Lions Club and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Hillsboro, Masonic Lodge 1016 at Christopher, and the United Mine Workers of America. He also served on the board of education in Mulkeytown for many years. He was born in Worden, a son of William Carl and Ida Mae Welch Hertel, and graduated in 1930 from the Christopher Community High School. He married Nola B. Annear on June 12, 1938, in Mulkeytown. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Roy L. Hertel and wife Nanci of Hillsboro; brother, Marvin "Bob" Hertel of PRinceton, Ind.; grandson, James Leonard Hertel of Hillsboro. A brother, James W. Hertel, preceded him in death.
