Hess, Dr. George J.

Services for Dr. George J. Hess will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Berean Baptist Church, Bunker Hill, with the Rev. Roy Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Bunker Hill City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton, or on Sunday in the church from one hour before the service. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the American Council of Christian Churches, P.O. Box 5455, Bethlehem, PA 18015. Dr. Hess, of Bunker Hill, died unexpectedly at 11 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 1998, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. He was 86 years old on May 23. A physician, he engaged in family practice in Litchfield for two years and in Bunker Hill for 37 years before retiring in 1979. He was active in several medical organizations, including a term as national president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. He was on the executive committee of the American Council of Christian Churches for over 25 years and received the organization's annual Contenders award in 1979. He also served on the board of Independent Faith Mission for 10 years and received the Distinguished Citizen award from Illinois College in 1980. He was a graduate of Illinois College, Jacksonville and Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Bunker Hill. He was born in Litchfield, a son of George S. and Dottie E. Hess. He married Lucille Gehring on December 27, 1937, in Jacksonville. She survives. Surviving also are a son, George A. Hess and wife Marcia of Urbana; daughters, Mary Vaughn and husband William E. of Bunker Hill, Jane Lighly and husband Douglas A. of Hanna City; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Hesterberg, Alfred R.

Alfred R. Hesterberg died at 5:40 this morning, Friday, September 17, in his home in rural Litchfield. He was 83 years old. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Meinschein Funeral Home. A complete obituary will appear in Monday's paper. Services for Alfred R. Hesterberg, of rural Litchfield, were held at 11 this morning in the Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield with the Revs. Donald Langhoff and Jonathan Bontke officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Children at Zion Lutheran School were out of school today in his memory. Active in both the church and the school for many years, he had served as custodian, held many church offices, was a member of the men's club and a long-time member of the church choir. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Educational Grant Fund at Zion Lutheran School. Mr. Hesterberg died at 5:40 a.m. Friday, September 17, 1999, in his home. He was 83 years old on May 3, and an Army veteran of World War II. He farmed until 1965. He then went to work at the Barnett Elevator and later at the Farmers Grain Elevator. He was born in Farmersville, a son of Fred and Margaret Hartmann Hesterberg. He married Helen C. Steinmann on May 12, 1946, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hamel. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Miss Linda Hesterberg of Monroe, Mich.; brother, Walter F. Hesterberg of Bethalto; sisters, Miss Erma L. Hesterberg of Pontiac, Ruth Wagner of Columbus, Ohio. Preceding him in death were a brother, Arthur Hesterberg and sisters, Elfrieda Schluter and Marie W. Peters. Services for Alfred Hesterberg, of rural Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Monday in Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield. The Rev. Donald Langhoff was the officiant and the Rev. Jonathan Bontke was the liturgist. Ernie Thomack, organist accompanied the congregation as they sang "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and "For All the Saints." Pallbearers were Herman Helgen, Mike Helgen, Gary Meyers, Roy Niemann, Robert Schmidt, Warren Wolfe. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Hesterberg, 83, died Friday, September 17, in his home.

Hettinger, Iva E.

Iva E. Hettinger, sister of Mildred Trueblood of Farmersville, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, in Lincoln Manor Nursing Home, Decatur. She was 85 years old on October 7. She worked for a number of years as co-owner and operator of the Sleey Hollow Motel in Belleville and the Lucky Horseshoe Mobile Home Park in Riverton. She was born in Neoga, a daughter of Elmer and Dorval Sparks. she married Richard C. Hettinger in 1928; he preceded her in death. Surviving are daughters, Barbara Phillipich of Springfield, Wilma Ticknor of Decatur; son, Richard Hettinger of Decatur; 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Graceland - Fairlawn chapel, Decatur with burial in the Star of Hope Mausoleum at the Graceland - Fairlawn Cemetery.

Hicks, Arthur

Services for Arthur "Art" Hicks, son of Maggie Bell Hicks of Nokomis, were held this afternoon in the Hopewell Baptist Church of Oconee. Burial was in Rosemond Grove Cemetery at Rosamond. Mr. Hicks died at 3:27 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 1999, in his home in Pana. He was 45 years old on March 16. He was an electrical construction technician, working out of IEBW Local 51, Springfield, and he also farmed. In addition, he worked at local grain elevators. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Clifford and Maggie Bell Jackson Hicks. He married Yvonne M. Clayton on June 23, 1973, in the United Methodist Church of Witt. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Bonnie Hicks of Taylorville, Lisa Bartimus of Charleston; sisters, Rose Mary Hopwood of St. Elmo, Thelma Barker, Nancy Murtaugh, Cheryl Miles, all of Nokomis, Alice Blades of Assumption, Dorothy Vandenbergh of Pana, Janet Carroll of Ramsey, Alta Shivers of Mt. Zion. Preceding him in death were his father, Clifford Hicks in 1977 and a brother, Billy Clifford Hicks in 1961.

Hicks, Bertha Sweet

Bertha Sweet Hicks, sister in law of Ruby Gilbertson of Litchfield and Virgil Hicks of Hillsboro, died Friday, July 3, 1998, in Ocala, Fla. She was 87 years old on April 21. She married Allen Howard Hicks on July 15, 1952, in Detroit. He died in October 1997. Surviving daughters, Debbie, Rose and Elizabeth Hicks and Margie Grace, all of Florida. Services were held in Ocala.

Hicks, Jr., Clifford

Clifford Hicks, Jr., formerly of Panama, died Thursday, November 11, 1999, in Michigan. He was 75 years old. He worked for the Grand Trunk railroad for more than 30 yars. Surviving are his wife, Marion; sons, Frank of Hadley, Mich. and Joe Hicks of Wayne, Mich.; daughter, Twyla Dirden of Auburn Hills, Mich.; sister, Virginia Schlight of Sylvan Lake, Mich.; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A brother, John, preceded him in death.

Hicks, Hattie

Services for Hattie Hicks, of Benld, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Kravanya Funeral Home there with the Rev. Richard Hill officiating. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kirk Cemetery at Ina. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to Trinity Baptist Church of Gillespie, of which she was a member. Mrs. Hicks died at 7:05 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. She was 92 years old on August 1. She was a teacher, last working in Benld before she retired. She also taught in the Jefferson, Franklin and Macoupin County schools. After her retirement, she lived in Florida for a number of years. She returned to Benld in 1978. She was born in Ina, in Jefferson County, a daughter of William and Etna Fitzgerrell Hicks, and never married. She was the last of her family, having been preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, including Guida Coffman. Surviving besides several cousins are close friends, Wilma and Bill Melchert of Gillespie.

Hicks, Ruby S.

Services for Ruby S. Hicks, of Nokomis, were held Sunday in Sutton Funeral Home there. The Rev. Edmund Hill officiated. Burial was in Nokomis Cemetery. Mrs. Hicks died at 4:38 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 1999, in the Hillsboro Hospital extended care facility. She was 81 years old on September 19. She was born in Audubon Township, a daughter of William and Eva Brummett McCaslin. She married Norval Hicks in 1940, in St. Charles, Mo. He died in 1976. Surviving are a son, Dennis Hicks and wife Janet of Rochester; sisters, Ruth Getz of Nokomis, Genevieve Sanders of Ramsey; three grandchildren, Shelli Richardson of Petersburg, Kelli Dozier of Morrisonville, Timothy Hicks of Lincoln; and five great grandchidlren. Preceding her in death were a son, Perry Hicks and a sister, Pauline Washburn.

Higgins, Bessie

Graveside services for Bessie Higgins, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. today in Green mount Cemetery at Quincy. Rev. Roger Selves officiated. Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funreal Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Higgins died at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 1998, in Litchfield Terrace Nursing Home. She was 95 years old on April 3. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to the ladies auxiliary of the Bowling Association. She was born in Payson, a daughter of John and Anna Johnson Winget. She married Richard Higgins on April 8, 1921. He died June 21, 1971. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Del Petro of Peoria; sons, Elmo Higgins of Litchfield, Richard Higgins of Mont Clair, Calif., Gerald Higgins and wife Betty of Ft. Worth, Texas; several grandchidlren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were several brothers andsisters.

Hill, Jack L.

Jack Lindhorst Hill, formerly of Fillmore, died September 30, 1999, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was 79 years old on August 31. He worked as a purchasing agent for Ralston Purina Company for 24 years and then for the Wilber - Ellis Company for 18 years. He was born in Fillmore, a son of Herschel and Amber Lindhorst Hill, and graduated from Nokomis High School in the class of 1938. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1942 with a bachelor of arts degree. In March 1946, he married Peggy Marie Becker in Denver, Colo. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Scott Hill; daughter, Susan Marie Mullins; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Graveside memorial service will be held Saturday in Resthaven Cemetery, Glendale, Ariz.

Hill, M. Hylda

M. Hylda Hill, of Hillsboro, died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 84 years old on August 30. She was born in Fayette County, a daughter of jason C. and Edythe N. Bess Carter. She married Burlis O. Hill on June 21, 1931, in Fillmore. He died November 13, 1985. Surviving are sons, Carter Hill of Fillmore, Paul L. Hill of Elsbury, Mo.; daughters, Melba Webster of Fillmore, Patricia jSchlichter of Marietta, Ga.; brother, Henry "Buster" Carter of Bingham; sisters, Madge Porter and Allie Carter of Hillsboro, Marcella Peek and Juanita Clowdus of Fillmore; 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two brothers and three sisters. Services were held Saturday in Miller Funeral Home at Fillmore. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery there.

Hill, Orville E.

Services for Orville Earl Hill, of Nokomis, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Bayle Baptist Church, Ramsey, with the Rev. Edmund Hill officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Ramsey. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Sutton Funeral Home, Nokomis, or from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the church. Mr. Hill died at 8:55 p.m. Monday, December 20, 1999, in Vandalia. He was 88 years old on October 31. He was a farmer for 58 years before he retired and a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. He was born in Kansas, a son of Edgar and Dora Pape Hill. He married Goldie Marie Teter on December 2, 1931, in Vandalia. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Evelyn Huber and husband Melvin of Vandalia; sons, Rev. Edmund Hill and wife Genevieve of Nokomis, David Hill and wife Esther of Vandalia; brothers, Howard Hill of California, Wilbur, Lee and Dale Hill, all of Nokomis; Goldie Suits and husband Carroll of Hillsboro, Beulah Brinkman and husband Raymond of Nokomis; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Emery and Otto Hill and sisters, Wilma Keiser and Barbara Colonius.

Hilt, John (Bud)

Services for John "Bud" Hilt, of Witt, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in StiehlİDawson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Ansel Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Irving. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Mr. Hilt died at 5:21 a.m. Sunday, October 18, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 88 years old on January 25, and an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for a ski factory and was a member of the American Legion. He was born in Montgomery County, a son of Phillip and Kathryn Miller Hilt. He married Marie Voudrie on June 28, 1947. Preceding him in death were brothers, Anton and Edward Hilt and a sister, Emma Louise Martincic.

Himes, Owen C.

Owen C. Himes, of Litchfield, died Monday, September 6, 1999, in Heritage Manor where he had been a patient for several weeks. He is the husband of Monta Henrichs Crane Himes. The Himes, who were married in July 1986, returned to Litchfield this past June because of failing health and made their home at Montgomery Place. For the 13 years since their marriage, they resided in Pompano Beach, Fla., where they were both active in community affairs. They visited each summer in Litchfield as guests of Mrs. Himes' brother, Garth Henrichs and wife Madge. Mr. Himes, a native of Pennsylvania, had made his home in Florida for more than 30 years. Surviving are a son, Richard Himes and wife Margie of Camp Hill, Pa.; daughter, Shirley Nelson and husband Arch of Etowah, N.C.; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Graveside services will be held Friday in Camp Hill. Mr. Himes' grandson, the Rev. Richard Nelson of Trenton, N.J., will officiate.

Hindi, Hameed A.

Services for Hameed A. Hindi, of Staunton, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. J.W. Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mr. Hindi died at 6:31 p.m. Monday, February 1, 1999, in St. Louis University Hospital. He was 42 years old on April 25. He was a professor at St. Louis University, having taught at the college level for 15 years. A resident of the United States for 25 years, he had lived in Staunton for the last four years. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Aviation Technical Education Conference, the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association, the University Aviation Association. He also held FAA certified positions as authorized inspector, designated mechanic examiner and airman knowledge test administrator. He was born in Baghdad, Iraq, a son of Abdul Razak Hameed Hindi and Laeka Ibrahim. He married Brenda Smith on December 2, 1989, in Cahokia. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Wesley Hameed Hindi of Staunton; a daughter, Marie Lika Hindi of Staunton; stepdaughters, Susie, Toni and Fatina; his mother, Laeka Ibrahim of Baghdad; and seven brothers and sisters, Saad of Fremont, Calif., Emad and Ameera of London, England, Furat, Faeza and Thana of Baghdad and Soad of Sweden. Others surviving include his in-laws, Mary and Glenn Smith of Bunker Hill. His father preceded him in death.

Hobbie, John Earl

John Earl Hobbie, formerly of Witt, died Friday, November 13, 1998, in Memorial Hospital, Peoria. He was 78 years old on April 14. He resided in Creve Coeur and as an employee of CILCO, worked throughout the Peoria area. Many longİtime residents of the area may remember him as the center on the Witt High School basketball team of the late 1930s. He was born in Rountree Township, first of the children of Herman and Anna Marie Oltmann Hobbie. His wife, the former Loretta Wright of Nokomis, survives. Surviving also are daughters, Barbara Eskew; sons, Roger and John Hobbie; sisters, Evelyn Everett and Betty Hobbie, both of Hillsboro, Dorothy Brown of Divernon; brothers, Roy Hobbie of Godfrey, Kenneth Hobbie of Mt. Zion, Raymond Hobbie of Baltimore, Md., Glen Hobbie of Ramsey, David Hobbie of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a brother, Calvin Hobbie, who resided in Waverly. Services were held today in the Preston Hanley Funeral Home in Creve Coeur.

Hobson, Norman J.

Funeral Mass for Norman J. "Ike" Hobson, of Farmersville, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church there by the Rev. Fathers Alan McIntosh and Charles Mulcrone. Burial will be in St. Martin Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Waggoner American Legion Post 701. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to St. Isidore School. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hobson died at 12:44 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 64 years old on May 10. He was a coal miner and retired from the Freeman United coal mine at Virden. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 1152, and an Army veteran. He was born in Farmersville, a son Leo and Emma Cutter Hobson. He married Shirley Brown in 1959 in Farmersville. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Mary Ann Rimini and husband Al of Farmersville; son, Ron Hobson of Springfield; brothers, Leroy Hobson of Farmersville, Dale Hobson of Fort Worth, Texas, Tom Hobson of Jefferson, Iowa, Darold, George, Ralph and Karl Hobson, all of Famersville; a sister, Ina Mae McCune of Joliet; and two grandsons, Jason and Brian Rimini. Preceding him in death were three sons in infancy and a brother, Bob Hobson.

Hodge, Daniel G.

Graveside service for Daniel Glyn Hodge, of Hillsboro, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Edwardsville. Hough and Sons Funeral Home, Hillsboro, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Hodge died at 2:17 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999, in Hillsboro Health Care. He was 48 years old on January 27. He was born in Alton, a son of David and Lois Reber Hodge, and graduated from high school in Granite City in the class of 1969. He served in the Air Force from 1970 to 1974. His marriage ended in divorce. Surviving are a daughter, Amy Burch; his father, David Hodge; and a sister, Nancy Hodge of Florissant. Mo. His mother, Lois Hodge, preceded him in death.

Hoepfinger, Doris

Doris Hoepfinger, formerly of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, May 26, in her home in Caseyville. She was 69 years old on May 21. She worked for many years as a nurse's aide at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. She was born in Fairmont City, a daughter of Bert E. and Anna Coffman Beeler. She attended the Enterprise and Edison grade schools and Beckemeyer Junior High in Hillsboro. Her first husband, Art Thatcher of Hillsboro and her second husband, Milburn Woodrome of East St. Louis, preceded her in death. Her third husband, Vernon Hoepfinger, survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Linda Cozart of Granite City; step daughter, Darlene Hoepfinger of St. Louis; brother, Robert Beeler of Collinsville; sister, Virginia Huffer of Longmont, Colo.; a grandson and a great grandson. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.

Hoffman, Irving H.

Services for Irving H. Hoffman, father of Thomas Hoffman of Nokomis, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in McCracken Funeral Home, Pana. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery at Rosamond. Mr. Hoffman died Wednesday, August 12, 1998, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Taylorville. He was 80 years old on September 10. He was born in Pana, a son of Arthur and Birdie May Sutton Hoffman. He married Mary Ellen Wetzel on April 28, 1944, in Old Stonington. She survives. Surviving also are another son, Stephan Hoffman of Pana; a sister, Grace Gargano of Pana and three grandchildren.

Hogsett, Robert L.

Robert L. Hogsett, formerly of Litchfield, died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 1999, in his home in Mt. Vernon, Washington, after a long illness. He was 72 years old on January 8. A Navy veteran of World War II and an engineer, he retired several years ago from Allied Chemical. He moved to Washington from Litchfield in the 1950s. In Litchfield, he owned and operated the B&M Bakery, located on West Columbia. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hogsett, and attended schools here. He married Mary E. Benning of Raymond in 1949. She survives. Surviving also are sons, John Hogsett and wife Sandy of Mt. Vernon, Andrew Hogsett of Tacoma, Wash.; and a sister, Martha Carter of Litchfield. Preceding him in death were a son, Robert L. Hogsett Jr.; daughter, Mary Christine Hogsett; and brothers, William D. and Dale Hogsett. Funeral arrangements are pending in Mt. Vernon. Graveside services with military honors for Robert Lee Hogsett, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hawthorne Memorial Park, Mt. Vernon, Washington. The Rev. Richard Hallman will officiate. Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon is in charge. Mr. Hogsett died on September 8, 1999. He was 73 years old on September 8. A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1942, trained as a Machinist Mate 3rd class and was assigned to the Navy flagship USS Logan at Astoria, Oregon. After his discharge, he worked for Wagner Electric in St. Louis. He returned to Litchfield in 1950, owning and operating with his wife, Mary, the B&M Bakery. In 1957, the family returned to the Northwest, settling first in Anacortes, Wash., where he worked as a baker for Fortune's. He then changed careers going to work as a machinist and mechanic for Allied Chemical at March Point. He retired after 30 years of service and in 1961, moved to Mt. Vernon. In Mt. Vernon, he was active in Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as an elder, president of the congregation, Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. His other interests included woodworking, baking, gardening, wine making, fishing, camping and traveling in the family's motor home. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Arthur and Muriel Elledge Hogsett, and attended schools here. He married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Benning, in 1947. She survives. Surviving also are sons, John Hogsett and wife Sandra of Mt. Vernon, Andrew Hogsett of Everett; sister, Martha Carter of Litchfield; grandchildren, Robert Frazier, Amanda Hogsett, both of Mt. Vernon and three great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Robert Lee Hogsett, Jr.; daughter, Mary Christine Hogsett; and brothers, William and Myron "Dale" Hogsett.

Holcomb, Judith J.

Services for Judith Joyce "Judy" Holcomb, of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Patton Funeral Home there with the Rev. James Howie of the Butler Presbyterian Church officiating. Mrs. Holcomb died at 7:35 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 59 years old on December 26. She worked at Sierra Manufacturing in Litchfield in the accounting department and before that worked at Hillsboro Health Care and for some local banks. She moved to Hillsboro from Staunton with her family as a child, attending Hillsboro schools and graduating from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1958. She was the queen of the second Old Settlers celebration held in 1957. She enjoyed flowers, sewing and her family. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Guy and Effie G. Sellers Nelson. She married Bruce H. Holcomb on January 20, 1963, in Hillsboro. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Jeffrey Holcomb and wife Tracy of Hillsboro; Gregory Holcomb of Hillsboro, Douglas Holcomb and wife Angela of Mahomet, Matthew Holcomb of Hillsboro; daughter, Lori Holcomb of Hillsboro; brother, Leon Guy Nelson of Springfield; sister, Betty Jean Kuehnen of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Alexandria Holcomb of Hillsboro, Sydney Holcomb of Mahomet. A sister, Ann Marie Nelson, preceded her in death.

Hollowich, Angela

Funeral Mass for Angela Hollowich, formerly of Staunton, was said at 10 a.m. today in St. Michael's Catholic Church there by the Rev. Father George Radosevich. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Michael's church or school. Mrs. Hollowich died at 7:58 p.m. Friday, September 10, 1999, in Belleville Memorial Hospital. She was 87 years old last October 14. She was a resident of Edwardsville and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church there. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Louis and Frances Hvala Intihar. She married Stephen Hollowich on January 17, 1934, in Detroit, Mich. He died September 8, 1986. Surviving are sons, Stephen Hollowich of Collinsville, John Hollowich and wife Jackie of Florissant, Mo., Gary Hollowich and wife Kathy of Belleville; a sister, Frances Rodeqhiero of Staunton; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Frank, Louis and John Intihar.

Holman, Virginia

Services for Virginia Holman, of Gillespie, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Trinity Baptist Church there with the Rev. Richard Hill officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. The family suggests memorials be directed to Trinity Baptist Church, Staunton Memorial Hospital, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Foundation. Mrs. Holman died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was 76 years old on September 3. She was a charter member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She was born in Benton, a daughter of Tandy and Vura Fay Durham Epps, and graduated from the Benton High School in 1940. She married Ralph Holman on September 29, 1946, in Benton. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Alan Holman and wife Ona of Hillsboro, Gary Holman of Lebanan, Mo., Kevin Holman and wife Linda of Gillespie; daughter, Jill Secoy and husband Louis of Gillespie; 10 grandchidlren and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a sister, Wilma Brindle.

Holmer, Violet

Graveside service for Violet Holmer, a former resident of Montgomery County, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Harvel City Cemetery. Mrs. Holmer, who was 87, died Saturday, October 3, 1998, in Riverside, Calif. She had been hospitalized for a month following a stroke. She was born Violet Renfro in Hillsboro, where she graduated from Hillsboro High School. She married John Holmer of Harvel in 1930, and they lived in Hillsboro and Witt until they moved to Indiana in 1941. She moved, after her husband's death, to Riverside in 1956. Surviving are sons, Terry Holmer of Portage, Ind., and Phil Holmer of Riverside; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Holzinger, Rita

Rita Holzinger, a member of the Holzinger Real Estate family, died Friday, September 10, 1999, in Barnes - Jewish Hospital. She was 55 years old on June 15. She was a realtor and worked with her husband in the Holzinger Real Estate Company. They had offices here for several years until the building was destroyed by fire. She also operated a house cleaning business for a number of years. She was born in St. Rose, a daughter of Leo and Leona M. Poettker Ottensmeier. She married Fremont Holzinger on October 6, 1962, in Highland. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Randy Holzinger of Highland; daughter, Connie M. Elmore of Trenton; her mother, Leona Ottensmeier of Highland; brothers, Ralph, Donald, Gervase and Kenneth Ottensmeier, all of Highland; sisters, Joan F. Petroski of Donnellson, Lorraine A. Vosholler of Highland; and four grandchildren. Her father, Leo Ottensmeier, preceded her in death. Services were held Tuesday in St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to Barnes - Jewish Hospital for Breast Cancer Research or to H.I.S. K.I.D.S.
