Holmes, Norma Marie

Memorial service for Norma Marie Holmes, formerly of Witt, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Northrop Sassaman Funeral Home, 19091 Northville road, Northvill, Mich. The Rev. Frank Severn of Covenant Community Church in Redford, Mich., will officiate. Burial will be in Deepdale Cemetery at Lansing, Mich. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Alzheimers Association. Mrs. Holmes died August 29, 1998 in her home in Redford Township. She was 87 years old on March 15. She was was born in Witt, a daughter of Peter and Sarah Marks Cora, and most of her early life was spent in Illinois. She graduated from Witt High School in 1929. In 1933, she graduated from Illinois State University with a teaching degree. She taught English at the Brimfield, Ill., high school until her marriage to Maloye R. Holmes in 1937. The couple moved to Detroit in 1944, and have resided in the metroplitan the rest of their lives. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Dr. Maloye R. Holmes and grandchildren, Autumn, Martin and Bradley Holmes. A son, Ronald Holmes, preceded her in death.

Hook, Calvin Clair

Services for Calvin Clair Hook, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Buell, pastor of the Barnett Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Barnett Christian Church or St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Hook died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 87 years old on October 1. He was a welder with Molony Electric in St. Louis, worked at Wepco in Litchfield, Fiat Allis and farmed in North Litchfield Township. He was born in Perryville, Mo., a son of John G. and Barbara Amberger Hook. He married Ethel Dora Turrentine on January 7, 1933, in Waterloo. She died July 31, 1997. Surviving are a son, Theodore R. "Ted" Hook of Litchfield; daughters, Anita Wolff and husband Marion of Litchfield, Claire Gebelhardt and husband James of St. Louis, Jean Yanaga and husband Richard of Kimball, Neb.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Everett, Emory, Vess and sisters, Grace and Hattie. Services for Calvin Clair Hook, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Plummer Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Arthur L. Buell, of Barnett Christian Church, officiated. Burial was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Musical selections were "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" and "How Great Thou Art." Paul Hampton was the vocalist. Michelle Sweet was the organist. Grandsons serving as pallbearers were Dennis Gebelhardt of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Ben Hook of Eugene, Oregon, Ted Hook, Jr., of Portland, Oregon, Jay Mueller of Denver, Colo., Kent Wolff and Marty Wolff, both of Litchfield. Following the committal service a meal was provided for family and friends by the women of Barnett Christian Church. Mr. Hook, 87, died Wednesday, March 3, in St. Francis Hospital.

Hoon, Sr., William G.

William G. "Bill" Hoon, Sr., father of Sandra "Larae" Wyatt and husband Kenneth of Litchfield and Glennice Brackett of Witt, died Sunday, September 20, 1998, in Passavant Hospital, Jacksonville. He was 58 years old on December 31. Mr. Hoon, of South Jacksonville, worked for Nestle Beverage Company there for 28 years. He served with the Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis, was a longtime member and past commander of the Jacksonville American Legion Post, and a member of the Moose Lodge in Jacksonville. He was born in Chandlerville, a son of Burdette and Pauline E. Lyons Hoon. Surviving besides the two daughters are sons, William G. "Buzz" Hoon Jr. of Macomb, Brett Hoon of Jacksonville; a brother, James Hoon of Beardstown; sisters, Dona Crowell and Sue Beard, both of Burlington, Iowa, and eight grandchildren. The remains were cremated. Committal service and burial of the cremains will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in the Bath Cemetery. GillhamİBuchanan Funeral Home, Jacksonville, is in charge of arrangements.

Hooper, Thomas Dean

Thomas Dean Hooper, the 15 year old grandson of Richard and Frieda Jones of Butler, died in an accident on the Kaskaskia river where he had been swimming with friends Thursday, July 23, 1998. His body was recovered at 9 p.m. Saturday. He was a son of David and Tina Jones Hooper of Cowden. born in Effingham, he attended schools in Cowden. He enjoyed CB radio and was known as "Cowden Bandit." Surviving besides his parents and grandparents are a sister, Kayla at home and a paternal grandmother, Myra Hooper of Cowden. Others surviving include four aunts, none from the local area and an uncle, Sean Jones of Taylor Springs. Services were held Wednesday in the Cowden High School gym. Burial was in Mound Cemetery, Cowden. Wallace İ Carroll Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Hopkins, Angela C.

Services for Angela Carol Hopkins, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home there with the Rev. JoAnn Osborn officiating. Burial will be in Chapman Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday after 11 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Hopkins died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 1999, in Barnes - Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. She was 49 years old December 8. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of John Randolph Jones, Sr., and Minnie Mathilda Uhlry, and attended school in Everette, Wash. She married Bob Hopkins on April 18, 1992, in Entiat, Wash. Surviving are her husband, Bob of Meelyville, Mo.; a son, Tony Lee Roorda of Tacoma, Wash.; daughter, Luana Roodra of Mt. Olive; step son, Richard Hopkins of Sparta, Wis.; step daughters, Loretta Hopkins of Sparta, Wis., Carrie Hopkins of Rockford; parents, John Randolph "Jack" Jones Sr. and Minnie Mathilda Uhlry, both of Mt. Olive; brothers, John Randolph Jones Jr. of Tacoma, Wash., George Steven Jones of Mt. Olive; and two grandchildren. Services for Angela Carol Hopkins, of Mt. Olive, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home. Rev. JoAnn Osborn officiated. Burial was in Chapman Cemetery. Pianist and soloist Rosemary Messner played "In the Garden," "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "Old Rugged Cross." A favorite recording, "Wings of a Dove," was played. Pallbearers were Jerry Rellenberger, Ondelle Stokes, Eddie Kuhl, Lester Knockman, Ronnie Cook Jr., Harold Osborn III. Following the services a lunch was provided for family and friends in the Methodist Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Hopkins, 49, died Saturday, November 13, in Barnes - Jewish Hospital, St. Louis.

Hoppin, Frances L.

Services for Frances L. Hoppin, sister of Walter H. Witt of Farmersville, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bramley Funeral Home, Divernon, with the Rev. Richard R. Harre officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery at Springfield. Friends may call in the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Frances L. and Curtiss Hoppin Pawnee Scholarship Trust at the United Community Bank in Pawnee. Mrs. Hoppin died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in her home in Pawnee. She was 84 years old last June 25. She was a teacher for 32 years, concentrating in elementary education. After graduating from Illinois State Normal University in 1933, she worked in several rural Illinois schools. She taught in the Pawnee school district from 1955 until her retirement in 1978. She was born in Farmersville, a daughter of Henry J. and Ethel Scott Witt. She married Curtiss Hoppin in 1936 in Pana. He died on August 6, 1955. Surviving also are sons, Thomas Edward and Henry "Hank" Eugene Hoppin, both of Richmond, Va.; daughters, Dr. Judith Ann Schickedanz of Brookline, Mass., Susan M. Berry of Virden; sister, Mabel Heinsen of Clarendon Hills; and eight grandchildren.

Hosick, William O.

Memorial service for William O. "Bill" Hosick, of Taylor Springs, will be held at 6 p.m. today in Hough and Sons Funeral Home, Hillsboro. The Rev. Ralph Ward will officiate. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Arthritis Foundation. Mr. Hosick died Thursday, May 27, 1999, in Hardin County General Hospital at RosiClare, Ill. He was 63 years old on December 4. He worked for the Department of Corrections before he retired. He was born a son of Roy and Norma Brown Hosick. Surviving are his wife Debra; daughters, Joni Hallem of Red-Level, Ark., Lora Dean and husband Todd of Hillsboro; sister, Margaret Thompson of Carmi; brother, Dean Hosick of Enfield; and five grandchildren, Bria, Casey and Lacey Hallem and Brooke and Blair Dean. Preceding him in death were brothers, Donald and Dallas Hosick.

Hostetler, Katherine L.

Services for Katherine L. Hostetler, of Hillsboro, were held at 2 p.m. today in the First Christian Church of Hillsboro. The Rev. Harry Meyer officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be given to the First Christian Church. Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro, was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hostetler died at 1:50 p.m. Friday, November 26, 1999, in Maryville Manor, Maryville. She was 90 years old on November 4. She worked as a clerk at the Times Dime Store and then the Ben Franklin, both in Hillsboro. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Hillsboro and taught Sunday School there for many years. She was born and reared in Litchfield, a daughter of Jesse and Bertha Daily Evans. She married Purcell "Percy" Hostetler, Sr., on February 2, 1929, in Hillsboro. He died March 31, 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Lou Oakley and husband Bill of Carmen, Okla.; sister, Mary David of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were sons, Purcell "Percy" Jr. and William J. Hostetler; brothers, Melvin, Pete and Bobby Evans; sister, Selma F. White; three great grandchildren, Joshua Bragg, Catherine Fields, Gabriel Bowden.

Hosto, Marie A.

Services for Marie Ann Hosto, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Douglas, with the Rev. Mark Sidney officiating. Burial will be in the New Douglas Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in Becker and Son Funeral Home and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Decorating Fund or the Mt. Olive Ambulance Service. Miss Hosto died at 5:57 this morning, Tuesday, August 31, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 66 years old on December 26. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of New Douglas, the women's group of the church and WELCA. She attended Davis country school and the New Douglas Grade School. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Fred H. and Anna Prange Hosto. Surviving are a brother, Frederick Hosto and wife Shirley of New Ulm, Minn.; sister, Vrlaine Hosto of Mt. Olive. Other survivors include sisters in law, Lorna Hosto of Mt. Olive and Berniece Hosto of Swansea. Preceding her in death were brothers, Roland, Herbert and Elmer Hosto and a sister, Lorraine Ranken. Following the services a lunch will be provided for the family and friends in the Immanuel Lutheran Parish Hall by the women of the church. Services for Marie Ann Hosto, of Mt. Olive, were held at 10 this morning in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of New Douglas. The Rev. Mark Sidney officiated. Burial was in New Douglas Cemetery. Organist, Pamela Kraigher, accompanied the Rev. Sidney as he sang "Children of the Heavenly Father" and the congregation as they sang "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were nephews, Richard Hosto of Green ville, Arthur Hosto of Broadhead, Wis., Joe Hosto of Halenville, Wis., Kelley Hosto of Monroe, Wis., David Renken of Hamel, Tom Shafer of Springfield. Following the services a lunch was served for family and friends in the Immanuel Lutheran Parish Hall, New Douglas, by the women of the church. Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive, was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hosto, 66, died Tuesday, August 31, in St. Francis Hospital.

Houchlei, Dwayne

Memorial service for Dwayne Houchlei, of Sorento, was held at 11 this morning in Perfetti Funeral Home there. The Rev. Oley Lawson officiated. Burial of the cremains will be in Sunnyside Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests memorials be direct to Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital. Mr. Houchlei died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 73 years old on February 8. He resided his entire life in the Sorento area and was road commissioner for Shoal Creek Township for several years. He was born in Sorento, a son of Leo V. and Rosetta Jordan Houchlei. His wife, the former Ava Cooley, survives. Surviving also are a son, Fred Houchlei of Sorento; brother, Elmer Houchlei of Sorento; sister, Geraldine Hampton of Worden; and six grandchildren.

Housam, Antonia

Services for Antonia Housam, of Staunton, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Williamson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Boesen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Staunton Ambulance Service. Mrs. Housam died at 10:05 a.m. Friday, July 31, 1998, in her home. She was 85 years old on July 30. She was a timekeeper for the Sears Corporation in Chicago for 29 years before retiring in 1959. She was a member of the Staunton VFW auxiliary. She was born in Chicago, a daughter of Rudolph and Antonie Beran Stocky. She married Curtis H. Housam on September 10, 1959, in Las Vegas, Nev. He died December 19, 1980. There no known survivors. A brother preceded her in death.

Houston, Kenneth W.

Services for Kenneth W. Houston, of Litchfield, were held Friday in Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Mr. Houston died Tuesday, September 28, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 78 years old on July 24. He was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He was born in Springfield, a son of Charles and Lillian Watson Houston. Surviving are a daughter, Paula White of Springfield; sisters, Edie H. Harris of Springfield and Lena H. Banks of Taylorville.

Howard, Lorraine Emma

Services for Lorraine Emma Howard, of Mt. Olive, were held at 3 p.m. today in Becker and Son Funeral Home there. The Rev. Matthew Woodcock officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Rosemary Messner played the piano and sang "Amazing Grace" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Pallbearers were Jerry Hayes, Jim Keune, Gary Fyalka, Elmer Milcic, Bob Leonhardt and Don Kratchovil. Following the services a luncheon was served to family and friends in the Methodist Church hall by the women of the church. Mrs. Howard died at 3:50 p.m. Friday, March 19, 1999, in Mt. Olive. She was 92 years old on September 23. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Olive, the American Red Cross, Mt. Olive VFW Auxiliary for more than 50 years, Litchfield Elks, Moose and country club, and the Mt. Olive Turner Hall. She was also an avid bowler. She was born in Walshville Township, a daughter of Henry and Augusta Whitehouse Keune. She attended Walshville grade school and graduated from Mt. Olive High School. On March 31, 1925, she married Walter H. Howard in Carlinville. He died December 24, 1985. Surviving are a brother, Ralph Keune and wife Mildred of Litchfield, a nephew and three nieces. Preceding her in death were a son, Robert Gene Howard on April 14, 1996; brothers, Carl and Paul Keune; and a sister, Norma Johnson. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olive Library or the Mt. Olive Ambulance Service.

Howell, Lewis J.

Services for Lewis J. Howell, of Nokomis, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sutton Funeral Home there with the Rev. Robert L. Christopherson officiating. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mr. Howell died at 12:18 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Taylorville. He was 94 years old on April 19. He was a farmer before he retired and worked for the Nokomis Elevator and also for the city. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nokomis. He was born near Nokomis, a son of Albert and Mary Grimes Howell. He married Gladys Sievers on November 20, 1934, in Nokomis. She died in 1993. Surviving are daughters, Darlene Price , Joyce Owens and Brenda Lupton, all of Nokomis; sons, Gary Howell of Nokomis and Roger Howell of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Grace Nash, Leona Kroenlein, Mary Workman, all of Nokomis, Velma Nicks of Edinburg; and fourteen grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Darwin Howell; brother, Dale Howell; sisters, Lola Howell in infancy and Marjorie Compton.

Howerton, Jr., George H.

Services for George H. Howerton, Jr., of Wilsonville, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, with the Rev. Dennis Hill officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Gillespie. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Gillespie Benld Ambulance Service. Mr. Howerton died at 3:49 p.m. Monday, December 7, 1998, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. He was 81 years old on September 17, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a group leader at Olind Corporation in East Alton before he retired. He was born in Chipman, a son of George H., Sr., and Edna Mae Agee Howerton. He married Jo Ann "Jenny" Bertetto on June 18, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Edna Mae Allred, Georgia Pitchford, both of Wilsonville; brother, Harvey Howerton of Elmwood; sister, Leona Tiona of Staunton; three grandchildren, Dee Anna Pollard of Bunker Hill, Ronald Pitchford of Gillespie, Christopher Pitchford of San Jose, Calif.; and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Robert Howerton and a sister, Lucille Davis.

Hubbard, Lloyd E.

Services for Lloyd E. Hubbard, formerly of Witt, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Stiehl - Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis, with the Rev. Mary Etta Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery. Mr. Hubbard, of Omaha, Neb., died November 17, 1999, in French Camp, Calif. He was 84 years old on April 24. He was a Major with the Army Air Force in World War II and after the war went to work as an airline pilot. He was born in Witt, a son of Edward and Hattie Nantkes Hubbard. He married Margaret Kessinger on July 5, 1941, in St. Louis. She died October 25, 1987. Surviving are brothers, George and Miles Hubbard of Nokomis, Ralph Hubbard of Omaha and a sister, Audrey Kacura of Phoenix, Ariz.

Hubert, Charles G.

No funeral services for Charles G. Hubert, of Benld, are scheduled. The remains will be cremated. Kravanya Funeral Home, Benld, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hubert died at 2:40 a.m. today, Friday, September 10, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 83 years old on July 13. He was a truck driver and salesman for Hubert Bottling in Gillespie and then later a truck driver for Gaudio Distributing in Benld for 10 years before retiring. He was a member of the Benld Owls and Croatian Lodge 217 of Benld. He was born in Mt. Olive, a son of John and Alma Kuehnen Hubert. He married Sue Suchko on November 24, 1938, in Gillespie. She died January 25, 1994. Surviving are sons, Charles Hubert Jr. of Perault Falls, Canada, Thomas D. Hubert of Benld, Gerald L. Hubert of Ruskin, Fla.; brother, John Hubert Jr. of Granite City; sister, Jo Ann Smith of Maywood; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a sister, Jeannette Blotevogel.

Huddleston, Abbie B.

Graveside service for Abbie B. Huddleston, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Huddleston died Friday, October 9, 1998, in her home. She was 85 years old on January 24. She was employed by the Hope School for the Blind before her retirement. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of John and Neva Parnell Robbins. She married John W. Huddleston on April 12, 1946 in Hillsboro. He died April 25, 1975. Surviving are sons, Robert Huddleston and William Coyle, both of Springfield, James Coyle of Poynette, Wis., Russel Coyle of Jamestown, Calif.; daughters, Sharon Coyle of Springfield, Betty Coyle of Antioch, Calif., Nancy Coyle of McClelland, Iowa; 31 grandchildren, 49 great grandchidlren, two great great grandchildren. A son, Maynard Coyle, preceded her in death.

Huff, A. Merle

Services for A. Merle Huff, of Staunton, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Robert E. Sabo Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Staunton City Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Carlinville Hospice. Mr. Huff died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 1999, in his home. He was 92 years old on February 22, and an Army veteran of World War II. An electrician he worked in Alaska for many years before retiring in 1966. Most notable of the jobs on which he worked was the DEW line in Alaska and Coulee Dam in Washington State. He and his wife, Bess, homesteaded in Alaska from 1946 to 1966. He was a member of the Washington State Grange and the IBEW Local 1547 in Alaska. He was born in Staunton, a son of Guy and Myrtle Dick Huff. He married Bess Peter on February 19, 1946, in Copper Center, Alaska. She died April 1, 1978. Surviving is a sister, Barbara Loemker Nobbe of Worden along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were sisters, Zora Ethridge, Lurilla Oehler, Nellie Dinsmore and brothers, Bart, Dick and Guy David Huff.

Burial will be in St. Maurice Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. the family suggests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Farmersville - Waggoner Ambulance Service. Mrs. Huff died at 2 a.m. Sunday, May 23, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was 77 years old on May 17. She resided in Morrisonville at one time and was the owner and operator of the J&H Cafe there from 1971 to 1981. She was a member of the Palmer Advent Christian Church and the Morrisonville American Legion Auxiliary. She was born in Gillespie, a daughter of Edward and Maude Jones Williams, and attended schools there. She married Harold Huff in March 1948. Surviving are her husband, Harold of Decatur; daughters, Doloris Moore and husband Tom of Litchfield, Joliene Brown and husband Larry of Farmersville; sisters, Susan DeForest of Fairview Heights, Maetta Burg of Staunton; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Millard Arthur "Art" Huff on November 22, 1988; daughter, Mary Compton on March 20, 1995; three brothers, two sisters, a grandson, Michael Wilbur on May 27, 1985.

Services for Alva V. Huffman, formerly of Staunton, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Williamson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Akins officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday in the fuenral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association. Mr. Huffman died at 6 a.m. Friday, March 5, 1999, in his home at Union, Mo. He was 56 years old on February 26, and a veteran of the Marine Corps. He was an operations analyst with the CPI, Inc., of St. Louis for 17 years and had resided in Union for the past seven years. He was born in St. Louis, a son of Vernon and Gladys Conner Huffman. He married and was later divorced. Surviving are sisters, Wanda Bernot of Benld, Rita Soens of Staunton; brothers, Archie Huffman of Staunton, Stephen Huffman of Dallas, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Hughes, Charles W.

Services for Charles W. Hughes, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Kirlin Egan and Butler Funeral Home, Springfield with the Rev. Charles Lee officiating. Burial will be in Woodwreath Cemetery, New Berlin. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Eisenhower Terrace, 2 Eisenhower drive, Jacksonville. Mr. Hughes, of Springfield, died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, August 23, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 57 years old on June 20. He had resided in Springfield since 1964. He was an architect and owner of Charles Hughes and Associates, Inc., in Springfield for 11 years. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He enjoyed traveling as well as sports. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Marvin and Gladys Marie Clark Hughes. He married Jane Lee Rector on April 7, 1962, in Farmersville. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Martin Andrew Hughes of Jacksonville; daughter, Christine R. Anderson and husband Darin of Springfield; his parents, Marvin and Gladys Hughes of Springfield; grandmother, Bessie Huffer of Litchfield; brother, Lonnie M. Hughes and wife Debbie of Springfield.; and one granddaughter, Aubrey Jane Anderson.

Hughes, LaFaun

Services for LaFaun Hughes, of Gillespie, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Kravanya Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Hill officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church of Gillespie. Mrs. Hughes died at 10:33 p.m. Monday, December 21, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Gillespie, P.E.O., the Polyanna Class and the United Methodist Church of Gillespie. She was born in Odin, a daughter of Walter E. and Elizabeth Grase Baugh. Her husband, Arthur M. Hughes, died in 1961. Surviving are a son, Richard A. Hughes of Vinton, Va.; daughters, Corene Lewis of Danville, Ky., Carol West of Bourbonnais; sister, Audrey Caudry of Gillespie; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A brother, Ralph Baugh, preceded her in church.

Hughes, Lyman S.

Lyman Short Hughes, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 1999, in his home in Chillicothe. He was 86 years old on July 5. He retired in 1972 as machine repairman for Caterpillar, Inc. While residing in Hillsboro, he was a member of the Hillsboro United Presbytrian church and was a youth leader. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Andrew P. and Myrtle Short Hughes. He married Theo Castle in 1944, in Peoria. She survives. Surviving also are daughtrs, Kathleen Dunbar of Chillicothe, Geraldine Walters of Edwards, Jeanine Sash of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Gary Lisenbee of Fort Worth; and 14 grandchildren, including Tammora Howell of Nokomis. Services will be held in Peoria at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Davidson - Fulton Woodland Chapel with entombment in the Parkview Chapel of Peace Mausoleum.

Hughey, Georgenna

Georgenna "Genna" Hughey, a court reporter in the Fourth Judicial Circuit for over 20 years and often working with the late Judge Paul M. Hickman in Montgomery County Circuit Court, died Thursday, Setpember 2, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur. She was 61 years old on September 12. She operated The Shaker Loft Bed and Breakfast in her home in Pana since 1995, and was also involved in quilt and antique businesses. She was born in Pana, a daughter of Geroge and Jeanne Engle Satterfield. Surviving are a son, J. Kevin Hughey and wife Camda of Decatur; a daughter, Lynda Buchanan and husband Rob of Littleton, Colo.; and three grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in McCracken Funeral Home, Pana. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the First United Presbyterian Church of Pana. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery there.

Hurst, Sr., Ernest G>

Graveside service for Ernest Gerald Hurst, Sr., of Hillsboro, co-founder of Hurst - Rosche Engineering Company, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Ferguson officiating. Mr. Hurst died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in his home. He was 90 years old on July 22. He was a civil engineer. He graduated Magna Cum Laud in Civil Engineering from Rose Polytechnic, now Rose Hulman, in Terre Haute, Ind. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro, Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, Hillsboro Rotary Club and the Moose Club. He was born in Pana, a son of John L. and Helen Jones Hurst. He married Mary Catherine Thomas on September 4, 1937, in Belleville. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Ernest Gerald Hurst, Jr., and wife Siri of Jenkintown, Pa., John T. Hurst and wife, the former Jerri Stroup, of Berkeley, Calif.; daughters, Susan Kershaw of Witt, Sara Hurst and husband Ben Dodd of Nashville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a son, John in infancy, and a sister, Iole Wallace. Family of Ernest Hurst, Sr., suggests memorials be directed to the Hillsboro Public Library or the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro. Mr. Hurst, 90 of Hillsboro, a co-founder of Hurst - Rosche Engineering, died Tuesday, March 9, in his home. His obituary was in Wednesday's paper. Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Oak Grove Cemetery. Bass Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
