Marburger, Harold E.

Harold E. Marburger, of rural Mt. Olive, died at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 1999, in the emergency room at St. Francis Hospital. He was 75 years old. Funeral service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. A complete obituary is to follow. Services for Harold Edward Marburger, of rural Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive with the Rev. Terry Breum officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Becker and Son Funeral Home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Mt. Olive Cemetery or the Mt. Olive Ambulance Service. Mr. Marburger died at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 1999, in the emergency room of St. Francis Hospital. He was 75 years old last July 28. He farmed all of his life and ran the family egg business for many years. Active in the Mt. Olive community, he served on the school board, was a founding member of the homecoming committee, a longtime and current member of the Mt. Olive City Cemetery board and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was also an observer for the National Weather Bureau for 35 years. He loved bowling and was secretary for the Farmers League. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, baptized and confirmed there, and attended the Zion Lutheran grade school. He graduated from Mt. Olive High School in the class of 1941. He was born in Mt. Olive, a son of Edward J. and Wilhelmina Lowenstein Marburger. He married Ada Prange on December 3, 1950, in the Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Edward Marburger and wife Tina of Mt. Olive; daughters, Linda Marburger of Mt. Olive, Diann Harbour and husband Mike of Springfield, Mary Ann Hawker and husband John of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Erna Marburger, Esther Culp, both of Mt. Olive, Vera Keiser of Litchfield; and seven grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Harbour of Springfield, Brian and Kevin Hawker of Ft. Lauderdale, David, Renee and Eric Marburger of Mt. Olive. Others surviving include sisters in law, Emma and Hilda Marburger, both of Mt. Olive. Preceding him in death were sons, Allen and Ronald Marburger; brothers, Melvin and Alfred Marburger; and a sister, Selma Schuette. Following the services Saturday a lunch will be provided for family and friends in the Zion Fellowship Hall by the women of the church. Services for Harold Edward Marburger, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church there. The Rev. Terry Breum officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. During the service the church choir sang "My God and I" and "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less." "How Great Thou Art" was sung by the congregation. Organist was Elda Prange. Pallbearers were John Adden, Warren Hemann, Gary Keiser, Ervin Kruse, Gene Marburger, Larry Marburger, Robert Prange, Gary Sewing. Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive, was in charge of arrangements. Following the services a lunch for family and friends was provided in the Zion fellowship hall by the women of the church. Mr. Marburger, 75, died Tuesday, June 8, in St. Francis Hospital.

Marburger, Lloyd J.

Services for Lloyd J. Marburger, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Wilton Mortuary, Peoria, with the Rev. David Peter officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Mr. Marburger died at 9:34 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 1998, in OSF Sating Francis Medical Center, Peoria. He was 65 years old on April 18, and an Army veteran. He worked for Caterpillar in Peoria for 35 years, retiring in 1990 as an engineer from the defense products division. He was a member of the Caterpillar Golf Retirement League, the Caterpillar Best Ball Golf League and the Rosewood Bowling Lanes League, where he achieved a 300 game. He attended played basketball at Western Illinois University, Macomb. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Jesse and Elsie Oelrich Marburger. He married Dixie A. Garren on July 5, 1959, in Bradford. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Diane Lynd and husband John of Peoria, Lana Barrack and husband James of Dunlap; a sister, Loann Fleming and husband Harold of Litchfield; and four grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a brother.

Marcolina, Elio F.

Services for Elio F. Marcolina, of Staunton, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. James Arico officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to Staunton VFW Post 1241. Mr. Marcolina died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 1999, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. He was 76 years old on June 10, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a construction laborer with Granite City Labor Local 397 before he retired, and also a watch and clock repairman. He entered military service on October 21, 1942, and fought in battles in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated with one service stripe, three overseas bars, American Campaign medal, European © African Middle Eastern ribbon, four Bronze stars, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. He was a life member of Staunton VFW Post 1241, member of Staunton Masonic Lodge 177 A.F.&A.M., 33rd Degree Shriner of the Southern Illinois Valley Scottish Rite, and a member of the Illinois State Troopers Association. He was born in Poffabro, Italy, a son of August and Vincenza Marcolina. He married Jean Billings Arico on October 27, 1956. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Jerry Marcolina of Houston, Texas; step son, Jim Arico and wife Karen of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Staci and Matt Adam, Wendi and Mike Lord and Adam Arico; and three great grandchildren.

Marley, Louis E.

Funeral Mass for Louis E. Marley, of Nokomis, will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Louis Catholic Church there by the Rev. Father Pat Jakel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 5:45 p.m. Mr. Marley died at 1:40 a.m. this morning, Thursday, June 10, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 95 years old on January 4. He was a real estate broker and auctioneer. A member of St. Louis Catholic Church, he attended the St. Louis School through the eighth grade and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2189. He was also a member of the Nokomis Lions. He was born in Pana, a son of Edward F. and Elizabeth G. Ohlman Marley. He married Catherine Kelly on April 26, 1952, in Farmersville. She survives. Two brothers, Leo C. and John O. Marley, preceded him in death.

Marron, Evelyn

Evelyn Marron, formerly of Witt, died Monday, September 27, 1999, in her home in Taylorville. She was 83 years old on February 19. She was born in Witt, a daughter of Arthur and Susan Renshaw Haywood. She married Thomas Marron in 1946 in Taylorville; he died in 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Sally Bryan and husband John of Taylorville, three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday in the Connolly - McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Marsh, Jonie Thomas

Services for Jonie Thomas Marsh, brother of Theresa VanMeter and James J. Marsh, both of Gillespie, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, with the Rev. Robert Marsh officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Mr. Marsh died Sunday, November 22, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 41 years old on December 29. He had resided in the Springfield area since 1984 and was employed as a welder at AO Smith in Granite City. He was also an Air Force veteran. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Jonie Earl and Lela Francis Atchison Marsh. He married Brenda Carlile in 1993; she died in 1995. Last April, he married Cathy Lyn Cullers; she survives in Pawnee. Surviving also are another sister and brother, Connie Huber and Carlos Marsh, both of East Alton.

Marti, Myrna B.

Services for Myrna B. Marti, formerly of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Bass Funeral Home there with the Rev. Gayland Vinson, pastor of Washington Park Fellowship, St. Louis, officiating. Burial will be in Donnellson Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mrs. Marti died at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 1999, in Barnes - Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. She was 62 years old on March 5. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of Dwight and Lucille Reeves, and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1955. She married Eldon Marti on June 26, 1955, in Green ville. They lived for a while in Morton but for most of their married life, they resided in St. Louis. Surviving are her husband, Eldon; son, Rick Marti of St. Louis; daughters, Sherry Mare and husband Bill, Becky Bergmann and husband Jim, Kathy Leffler and husband Russ, all of St. Louis; brothers, Lamoine E. Reeves and wife Jean of Donnellson, Fred O. Reeves and wife Bonnie of Mason City, G. Roger Reeves and wife Kathy of Hillsboro; and nine grandchildren.

Martin, Alna J.

Memorial service for Alna June Martin, of Benld, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, with the Rev. Ray Ditch officiating. Inurnment will be in Gillespie City Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. They suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Benld Nutrition Center, St. Francis Hospice or the Gillespie Caring Center. Mrs. Martin died at 10:27 a.m. Sunday, October 24, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 69 years old on October 18. She was born in Illinois, a daughter of Howard and Nina Lucille Manuel Ruyle, and graduated from Gillespie High School in the class of 1949. She married John B. Martin on April 11, 1978, in Carlinville. He died January 10, 1996. Surviving are daughters, Nina Bertolis of Gillespie, Debra Litviak of Benld, Deana Lovsey of Staunton; brothers, Kenny and William Ruyle, both of Gillespie; sister, Maxine Osborn of Gillespie; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were sons, John "Buddy" Harrison, Ray Lee Harrison and two in infancy; and a brother, Frank Ruyle.

Martin, Areta

Areta Martin, formerly of Gillespie, died Tuesday, December 15, 1998, in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was 91 years old on October 18,. She taught music in the Gillespie School District for many years before she retired. She was a graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon. She was born in Jeff, a daughter of Virgil Nathan and Dora S. Leighton Gould. She married Emery H. Martin in 1928. He died in 1987. Surviving are a son, Gene Martin of Urbana, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services were held Saturday in Urbana. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery there.

Martin, Harrell

Funeral arrangements for Harrell Martin, of Panama, are incomplete at Perfetti Funeral Home there. Mr. Martin died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday in Hillsboro Health Care Center. Services for Harrel "Buckeye" Martin, of Panama, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Perfetti Funeral Home there with the Rev. Linda Peyla officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Mr. Martin died at at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 1998, in Hillsboro Health Care Center. He was 68 years old on November 1. He was born in Panama, a son of William Emery and Lillian Berniece McCoy Martin, and lived there all of his life. He never married. Surviving are a brother, James Martin of Sorento and a sister, Wilhelmina DeGani of Panama.

Martin, Rev. Dr. Max L.

Services for Rev. Dr. Max L. Martin, former pastor of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Praise Assembly of God Church in Springfield, Mo., with the Rev. Billy Burris officiating. Committal service and burial will be held Friday in Rector, Ark. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Green lawn Funeral Home South, 441 West Battlefield road, Springfield. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Dr. Max L. Martin Scholarship Fund at Evangel University, 1111 North Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65802. Rev. Martin died Monday, January 18, 1999, in Springfield, Mo., following a brief illness. He was 73 years old on November 20. He was pastor of the Methodist church here from 1960 to 1966, having been sent by the district to oversee construction of a new building. The church was completed in 1963 and he became instrumental in its renaming from First Methodist to St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Long-time members recall that three names were presented to the congregation. It became known that St. Timothy was his favorite of the choices and so the new church at 222 East Union avenue was renamed. Martin Hall, the fellowship hall of the church, was named in his honor. Rev. Martin completed a bachelor of arts degree at Southern Illinois University in 1946 and a master of theology degree at southern Methodist University in 1953. He received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Wiley College in 1979. An ordained minister of the United Methodist Church and the Assembly of God, he pastored numerous churches throughout Southern Illinois from 1943 to 1985. From 1985 through 1993, he was a professor of Biblical Studies and Philosophy at Evangel University in Springfield. He remained Professor Emeritus there until his death. He served on the staff at Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Springfield from 1993 to 1996. From 1996 until his death, he was assistant chaplain at Marantha Village in Springfield. He was born in Ziegler, a son of the Revs. T.A. and Ruth Martin. He married Vonna Jean Collier, daughter of George and Ada Collier of Rector, Ark., in 1945. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Stephen Martin and wife Betty of Wadsworth, Ill.; a daughter, Lynn Martin of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Shane, Julie, Tiffany, Timothy, Brian and Amy; and three great grandchildren, Jordan, Taylor and Tyler. Preceding him in death were a son, Kevin Martin; a sister, Dee Dorian and a brother, Robert Martin. Martin, Robert William

Services for Robert William Martin, formerly of Hillsboro, were held this morning in Bass Funeral Home there. The Rev. Randy Sands, pastor of Hillsboro Free Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1306, Taylor Springs. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Diabetes Association. Mr. Martin, of Springfield, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday, May 22, 1998, in his home. He was 73 years old on January 11, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was an electrician until he retired. He resided in Hillsboro until 1953 then moved to Alton. In 1967, he moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he worked for the state at the state fairgrounds. In 1993, he returned to Illinois and settled in Springfield. He was a 50 year member of Franklin Masonic Lodge in Bethalto and a 32nd degree Mason. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Robert J.E. and Ethel Hefley Martin, and graduated from Hillsboro High School. Surviving are sons, Dennis Martin of Springfield, James, Robert and Donald Martin, all of Phoenix, and Thomas Martin of Germany; a daughter, Ann Price of Springfield; and 10 grandchildren. A brother, Frank J. Martin, preceded him in death.

Martincic, John P.

John P. Martincic, Sr., of Irving, died at 6:18 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in his home. He was 84 years old on May 9, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a coal miner for 32 years before retiring in 1979, last working at Peabody Coal No. 10 at Pawnee. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a resident of Irving since 1952. He was born in Johnston City, a son of John and Emma Hilt Martincic. He married Livona Ellen Mosher on October 26, 1947, in Hillsboro. She died March 10, 1987. Surviving are sons, John P. Martincic Jr. and wife Janet of Hillsboro, Edward Martincic and wife Anita of Witt; daughters, Kathryn Borgic and husband Jim of Hillsboro, Elizabeth "Betsy" Hamby and husband Randy of Hillsboro, Mary Pinkley and husband Gary of Litchfield, Cindy Hebenstreit and husband Tom of Ramsey; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Robert Anthony Martincic in 1975 and three brothers, George Martincic who resided in Chicago, Lawrence and Frank Martincic who resided in Witt.

Martinelli, Arthur J.

Services for Arthur J. Martinelli, of Staunton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Michael's Catholic Church there with the Rev. Father George Radosevich officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton. Prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton or Adopt A Pet in Benld. Mr. Martinelli died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, August 16, 1998, in his home. He was 63 years old on April 26. He worked in the factory of the Spectrolite Company at Madison before he retired in 1992. He was also an Army veteran. He was a member of St. Michael's Church. He was born in Florence, Colo., a son of Jack and Mary Cristelli Martinelli. He married Mary Nepute on October 28, 1961, in Benld. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Mark Martinelli of Melbourne, Fla.; sister, Violet Felchner and husband Robert of Staunton; brother, Herman Martinelli of Festus, Mo. Preceding him in death were a son, James and a daughter, Victoria.

Martintoni, Roy F.

Funeral Mass for Roy F. Martintoni, of Farmersville, was said Sunday in St. Mary's Catholic Church there. Rev. Father Alan McIntosh officiated. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Hillsboro. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Farmersville - Waggoner Ambulance Service or to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Farmersville. Mr. Martintoni died at 7:51 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 85 years old on May 11, and an Army veteran of World War II. He worked at the Farmersville Locker for many years before his retirement in 1976. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Farmersville, and a past member of the Farmersville - Waggoner American Legion Post. He was a 1932 graduate of Hillsboro High School and attended Washington University in St. Louis. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Silvis and Ida Paris Martintoni. He married Alberta Plummer Jaeger on July 7, 1972, in Farmersville. She survives. Surviving also are two step children, Kathy Wernsing and husband Larry of Raymond, Barbara Cox and husband Dennis of Taylorville, and four step grandchildren.

Martz, Daniel Leroy

Daniel Leroy Martz, brother of Helen Sparks of Nokomis, died October 30, 1998, in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. He was 71 years old on April 13. He was a resident of New Carlisle, Ind., and a retired truck driver. He was born in Shelbyville, a son of Daniel C. and Mary Jane Stanley Martz, and resided with foster parents, Thomas and Lucy Woods. Surviving are sons, Thomas Martz of Valparaiso, Ind., Steven Martz of LaPorte, Ind.; daughters, Carol Greathouse, Marilyn Keller, Jackie Cauffman and Pam Scott, all of New Carlisle, Kathy Schwenk of Riverside; brother, Glen Martz of Florida; foster sister, Sadie Steele of Pana; 20 granchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Arthur, Oscar "Bud" and Franklin Martz; a sister, Clotele Martz; foster sister, Grace Woods; and grandson, Daniel L. Martz. Services were held in New Carlisle.

Marx, Norma J.

Services for Norma Jean Marx, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Becker and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Mt. Olive Cemetery or the Mt. Olive Library. Mrs. Marx died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 70 years old on April 29. She enjoyed genealogy and crafts. She attended both White City and Mt. Olive schools and graduated from Cleveland High School in St. Louis in the class of 1947. She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of William Jennings and Marian Noretta Gruendahl Wimberly. She married Wendell Hamilton Marx on May 5, 1951, in St. Louis. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Stephen Marx and wife Sandra, David Marx and wife Pamela, all of St. Louis; daughter, Wendy Marx Cunitz and husband Ronald of O'Fallon; six grandchildren, Bradley, William, Gregory, Olivia, Andrew and Isabelle. Services for Norma Jean Marx, of Mt. Olive, were held at 10 this morning in Becker and Son Funeral Home there with the Rev. Matthew Woodcock officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. During the services bagpiper Alex Gerlerding played "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers were Paul Vuckovich, Nick Vuckovich, Raymond Slapak, Roger Kratochvil, John Polovich and Louis Wimberly. A luncheon for family and friends followed the services in the home of Wendell Mary and served by friends of the family. Mrs. Marx, 70, died Sunday, July 18, in St. Francis Hospital.

Mason, Jean E.

Jean Edward Mason, formerly of Hillsboro, died Friday, April 2, in Lexington Health Care at Lombard. He was 80 years old, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was born in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1937. He earned a bachelor degree from Millikin University, Decatur, in 1946 and a master's degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign in 1951. He played football at all three schools and for the Navy. He was a teacher and football coach at Addison Trail High school from 1966 until his retirement in 1982. Surviving are his wife, Katherine, and son, Jon. Others surviving are a sister in law, Elizabeth Mason. His brother, James, preceded him in death. Services were held in Lombard with burial in Clarendon Hills Cemetery at Westmont.

Mason, Orpha Snyder

Memorial service for Orpha Snyder Mason, a centenarian residing in Nokomis, will be held Thursday, April 8, in the Casa Adobes Congregational Church, Tuscon, Ariz. Stiehl - Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Mason, who was 105 years old last April 16, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 1999, in the home she shared with a niece. She had resided in Tuscon until 1997 when she moved to Nokomis to live with Marjorie Snyder Reynolds. She was a school teacher and librarian until she retired. She had a master's degree in Education from the University of Arizona. She was a member of the Casa Adobes Congregational Church. She was born in Witt, a daughter of Jacob and May Lingle Snyder. She married William Mason in 1939; he died February 24, 1976. Surviving besides Mrs. Reynolds are nieces, Hazel Furness of Witt, Barbara Faulkner of Decatur, Joyce Kirk of Carrollton, Texas. There are also many great, great great and great great great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were a brother and sister, Olin and Orvilla Snyder.

Massey, Agnes

Agnes Massey, sister of Joseph Knetzer of Gillespie, died Wednesday, December 30, 1998, in Amboy Care Center, Perth Amboy, N.J. She was 90 years old. She was a cook at Carlinville Hospital, before moving to New Jersey in 1968. She was born in Carlinville. Her husband was Otis Massy. Surviving are sisters, Florence Koster of Carlinville, Anna May Dunn of Winchester; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Massey, L. Alvin

Services for L. Alvin Massey, father of Lewis A. Massey of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home, Green ville, with the Rev. Elmer Fenton officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sorento. Friends may call in the funeral home tonight after 5 p.m. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to the activity department of Country Estates Health Care Center. Mr. Massey, of Green ville and formerly of Sorento, died at 1:01 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 1999, in Country Estates. He would have been 83 years old on June 8. He farmed west of Sorento and worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation until 1978, when he retired. He then moved to Green ville. He was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church and belonged to Sorento Masonic Lodge 851, AF&AM. He was born on a farm near Walshville, a son of Joseph Henry and Stella Belle Ingles Massey, and attended country schools. He married Iva M. Zeller on November 14, 1936, in Green ville. She survives. Surviving also are another son, Harold L. Massey of Steger; daughters, Cleda Moorow of Illiopolis, Stella Kirk of Bellbrook, Ohio; a brother, Harvey Massey of Green ville; sisters, Irene Volentine of Wood River, Almeda Smith of Rosewood Heights, Mayola Whalen of Wood River; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Earl, Vernon and Meade Massey and sisters, Norma Hewitt, Velma Sager, Leola Lavick and Donna Delores Massey in infancy.

Masters, Sharon K.

Services for Sharon K. Masters, sister of Buddy Masters of Harvel, were held at 11 this morning in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid. Burial was in Anderson Cemetery at Palmer. Mrs. Masters, of Kincaid, died Friday, September 3, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 51 years old on July 20. She was born in Gideon, Mo., a daughter of Daniel C. and IRene M. Marler Masters. Surviving besides the brother are sisters, Shirley Davis of Kincaid and Dorothy Sherman of Taylorville.

Matthews, Hazel L.

Services for Hazel L. Matthews, of Butler, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro, with Tony Roettgers, of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Litchfield. Burial will be in Sidener Cemetery, St. Elmo. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Mrs. Matthews died at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 82 years old on September 11. She worked at Ball Brothers Glass Factory in Hillsboro for approximately 10 years. She resided in Taylor Springs until 1960, when she moved to Litchfield. In 1976, she moved to Butler. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Litchfield. She was born in Vandalia, a daughter of Arthur and Nancy Burris Hankins. She married Oral Matthews on July 15, 1933, in Hillsboro. He died June 3, 1984. Surviving are sons, Arthur and wife Flossie of Butler, Kenneth and wife Dorothy of Taylor Springs, Tracey and wife Carolyn of Taylor Springs, Roger and wife Sue of Bowling Green , Ky.; daughters, Delores Huckaby of Troy, Sherry Brossard of Hillsboro; 26 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a daughter, Sonna Reener on September 18, 1995.

Matthews, Ruby Arlene

Services for Ruby Arlene Matthews, of Hillsboro, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Bass Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Keeling officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Mrs. Matthews died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, July 19, 1998, in Sunshine Manor of Carlinville. She was 70 years old on April 28. She resided in Hillsboro most of her life and was employed as a lineworker at Hillsboro Glass Manufacturing Company. She was born in White City, a daughter of William L. and Anna Thelma Bohlen Osborn. Surviving are a son, Dan Matthews and wife Jean of Litchfield; daughter, Rose Van Huss and husband Roger of Gillespie; brother, Norwood Osborn of Memphis, Tenn.; sisters, Betty Lynch, Marie Lehman, both of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Chris Wasylenko of Sawyerville, Billy Van Huss of Mt. Olive, Stella Lentz of Litchfield, Shane Matthews of Litchfield; and four great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Edward Jr. Wasylenko, Dylan Lentz and Peyton Matthews. Preceding her in death were brothers, Wilburn Osborn, William Osborn Jr. and two brothers in infancy; and a sister, Dorothy Osborn.

Mattox, Kenneth

Kenneth Mattox, formerly of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, in a traffic accident in Arizona. He was 52 years old on August 24. Mr. Mattox and his wife, Lorraine, owned and operated Angelo's Italian restaurant in Hillsboro until it closed. He was an active member of the Hillsboro volunteer fire department. The couple resided in Hillsboro from 1976 to 1988. They later moved to Mesa, Ariz., and he went to work for the Arizona Department of Transportation. He had stopped to help a fellow DOT worker change a tire when he was struck and killed by vehicle that had gone of control. Surviving besides his wife are sons, Bryan Mattox of Hillsboro, Curtis Mattox of Phoenix, Ariz., Jason Mattox of Tempe, Ariz.; sisters, Janet Sanford and Joyce Birdsell of Champaign; and five grandchildren. Services were held Monday in Mesa with burial in Mountainview Memorial Garden.

Maulding, Rosa G.

Rosa G. Maulding, sister of Alleta Smith of Gillespie, died Thrusday, October 15, 1998, in Wood River Township Hospital. She was 80 yers old on March 8. She was born in White Hall, a daughter of Manford and Katie Renshaw Allen, and married Arch D. Maulding in 1942 in St. Louis. He died in 1995. Surviving besides Mrs. Smith are another sister, Ruth Dyer of East Alton and a brother, Burrell Allen of Wrights. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gent Funeral Home, Alton. Burial will be in White Hall Cemetery.

Maurer, Esther R.

Services for Esther R. Maurer, formerly of Gillespie, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home, Springfield. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mrs. Maurer, of Springfield, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday, March 26, 1999, in St. John's Hospice. She was 87 years old on February 24. She worked for the Illinois Bell and AT&T telephone systems before retiring in 1974 after 37 years of service. She was born in Gillespie, a daughter of George W. and Jane Ann Dayton Jackson. She married Harold R. Maurer in 1939 in Marshal; he died March 5, 1982. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Marsh and husband Raymond of Edinburg, and three granddaughters.
