She was a public accountant before she retired. She was also a licensed beutician. She graduated from Benld High School in the class of 1936. She was born in Thurber, Texas, a daughter of Louie and Virginia Massetto Rolle. Surviving is a sister, Lucille Stoddard of Benld. Others surviving include nieces, Edith Campbell of Litchfield and Florence Kucinick of Collinsville. A sister, Teresa Rolle, preceded her in death.
Rollet, Rev. Dr. Paul A.
Memorial service for Rev. Dr. Paul A. Rollet, formerly of Hillsboro, were held Sunday in Springfield. Graveside services were held this morning in Roselawn Cemetery. Rev. Rollet died Wednesday, February 24, 1999, in Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He served as pastor in Athens, Otatawa and Hillsboro, Oakely, Calif., Malvern, Iowa, and the First Baptist Chruch of Maywood for 26 years. He also served as interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Taylorville, First Baptist Church of Ashland and the Liter Baptist Church of Literberry. He attended Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago, Shurtleff College in Alton, Berkeley Baptist Divinity School in Berkeley, Calif., Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Kan., the chaplain school at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., and Edinburgh University in Edinburg, Scotland. He earned a bachelor's degree in social science and in Divinity, a masters degrees in New Testament and in Theology in Church History and a doctorate of Theology in Mission and Evangelism. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving as chaplain with an armored division, an artillery group headquarters and an infantry division. For a year and a half, he served in Europe in combat and occupational duties. He served as first president of the Illinois Baptist Youth Fellowship, president of the Illinois Baptist Ministers, moderator of the Ottawa Baptist Association. In addition, he was an active Rotarian for 12 years, active Jaycee member for five years, member of the Iowa and Illinois Farm Bureaus for 37 years, member of the board of directors of the Baptist Retirement Home in Maywood for 26 years. He was born in Springfield, a son of Charles and Louise Marie Saunderhausen Rollet. He married Dorothy L. Singleton in 1943, in Chicago. She died in 1989. He married Barbara L. Fox in 1991 in Literbery. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Dorothy Rollet of Kansas City, Mo., Linda Singer of Park City, Utah, Barbara Hortsman of Melrose Park; son, Dr. John Rollet of Chatham; and four grandchildren.
Romani, Nadene
M. Nadene Romani, formerly of Sorento, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, in Utlaut Memorial Hospital, Green ville. She was 76 years old on February 19. She resided in Green ville since 1954, having moved there from Sorento. She worked as secretary for the First United Methodist Church of Green ville from 1969 to 1985, was a member of The Browning Club, Women's Society of her church and the Utlaut Hospital Auxiliary. She was born in Sorento, a daughter of Charles W. and Mildred Cruthis Jordon, and attended Sorento High School for three years before graduating from Hillsboro High School. She married Charles V. Romani on June 16, 1941, in St. Louis. He survives. Sruviving also are a son, Charles V. Romani Jr. of Glen Carbon; daughter, Sharon Finley of Leawood, Kan.; sister, Virginia Romani of Wood River; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were held Monday in Green ville with burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
Romanus, Mel J.
Funeral arrangements for Mel J. Romanus are pending at Plummer Funeral Home. Mr. Romanus, formerly of Litchfield and Hillsboro, was found dead in his home in Springfield late Sunday afternoon. He was 55 years old. Funeral Mass for Mel Joseph Romanus, formerly of Hillsboro and Litchfield, will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Catholic Church, Litchfield, by the Rev. Father David Schmidt. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Plummer Funeral Home. Mr. Romanus was found dead in his Springfield home about 5 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 1998. He was 55 years old on September 11. He retired in 1994 from the Hillsboro School District after 20 years as a classroom teacher in the high school. He also taught at Graham Correctional Center and previously taught from 1970 to 1974 at Peoria Spaulding High School. In addition, he coached football, cross country and track. He received the state "Those Who Excel" award in 1975 and that same year was also named Teacher of the Year in Montgomery County. He earned a master's degree in Educational Administration at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, and specialists degree in Bilingual Education from Bradley University. Undergraduate work was completed at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and Western Illinois University, Macomb. He also worked in radio in St. Louis, the restaurant industry and Keystone Manufacturing in Peoria, and in international marketing in Venezuela. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela, a son of Camilo Jose and Berta Aurora Rodriguez Romanus, and graduated from Peoria Spaulding. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1976. He was married three times. He and the former Michelle Hanafin were married in 1966 and divorced in 1986. He married the former Debbie Schmidt in 1986 in Hillsboro. They were divorced in 1991. He married Debbie Voyles Neathery in 1993 in Hillsboro. They survive. Surviving also are four daughters, Marienne White and husband Chris, Lisa Land and husband Ron, all of Litchfield, Sasha and Sheila Romanus, both of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Myriam de Mazzocca and husband Salvadore of Caracas; a brother, John Romanus and wife Tena, also of Caracas; and a granddaughter, Kailyn Land. Funeral Mass for Mel Joseph Romanus, formerly of Litchfield and Hillsboro, was said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Catholic Church. The Rev. Father David Schmidt officiated. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace," "Pan De Vida" and "Song of Farewell." Kathy Skinner was the organist and Polly Wand, cantor. Sr. Rosella Uding was the minister of Eucharist. Maurice Alouan, a cousin of the deceased, was the lector. Gift bearers for Communion were the daughters, Marienne White, Lisa Land and Sheila Romanus. Mr. Romanus, 55, died Sunday, November 1, in Springfield.

Mrs. Rosa died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, January 17, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 86 years old on November 10. She was born in Benld, a daughter of Giacinto and Giuditta Reck Scopel. She married Modesto P. Rosa on November 28, 1932. He died April 11, 1993. Surviving are a son, Anthony Rosa of Richmond Heights, Mo.; a daughter, Gloria Rosentreter of Benld; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Ardino Scopel, Arthur Scopel, Alde Scopel in infancy; sisters, Angelina Gallo, Bruna Pierard, Hilda Vercoglio.

Services for Alvin G. Rosenthal, of New Douglas, were held at 2 p.m. today in the Immanuel Lutheran Church there. The Rev. Mark Sidney officiated. Burial was in the New Douglas Cemetery. Mr. Rosenthal died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, October 22, 1999, in Eden Retirement Center, Edwardsville. He as 92 years old on January 21. He was a farmer before he retired and active in the New Douglas community, serving as township clerk from April 4, 1933 to April 4, 1961 and also for a time as mayor. He was a member of the New Douglas Volunteer Firefighters, Madison County Firefighters Association, 3-M Firefighters Association. He also served on the board of directors of the New Douglas Cemetery Association and as its trust fund officer. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of New Douglas and former chairman of the congregation, member of the ATA of Alhambra and a former member of the Madison County National Organization. He was born in New Douglas, a son of Henry C. and Mary Katherine Hosto Rosenthal. He married Luella Niehaus on February 18, 1930 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of New Douglas. She died October 1, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Hopper and husband Kenneth of Glen Carbon; son, Rev. Ray Rosenthal and wife Janet of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Others surviving include a son in law, Edward Wrede of Eagle River, Alas. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Marilyn Wrede; brothers, Robert, Walter and Erwin Rosenthal along with one in youth and one in infancy; sisters, Emma Eickmeyer and Lizzie Niehaus.

Olive School Sports Fund. Mr. Rosenthal died at 9:41 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 1998, in his home. He was 35 years old on May 8, and a Navy veteran having served from 1984 to 1987. He was a mail carrier with the Postal Service in Mt. Olive, a member of the Naval Reserve, charter member of Amvets, member of Ducks Unlimited and the Church of the Ascension. He was born in Litchfield, a son of LaVern G. and Ruth A. Hutchins Rosenthal, and attended Mt. Olive schools. After graduating from Mt. Olive High School in the class of 1981, he attended North Central College in Naperville. He married Marlene Schwab on November 27, 1982, in the Church of the Ascension, Mt. Olive. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Nathaniel Rosenthal and daughters, Tiffany and Brittany Rosenthal, all at home in Mt. Olive; his parents, of White City; brothers, Michael Rosenthal with the Navy stationed in Virginia Beach, Va. and Patrick Rosenthal with the Navy stationed in Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Kim Stumpf of Springfield and Amy Jo Converse of Troy. Following the services a lunch will be served to family and friends in the Ascension Hall by the women of the Altar and Rosary Society. Funeral Mass for Daniel Paul Rosenthal, of Mt. Following the services a lunch was served to family and friends by members of the church Altar and Rosary Society. Mr. Rosenthal, 35, died Saturday, July 18, in his home.

Catherine C. Ross, sister of Edna Tomevi of Panama, died May 20, 1999, in Graham, Wash. She was 90 years old on February 12. She was born in Cowie, Scotland. Her husband, William Ross, died in 1968. Surviving besides the sister are a son, Norman Ross and wife Linda of Spanaway, Wash.; another sister, Rita J. Kurtz of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren. Others surviving include a daughter in law, George Ross of Phoenix, Ariz. Preceding her in death was a son, Harry Ross in 1976. Services will be held in Graham with burial in Memory Lane Memorial Park, Phoenix, Ariz.

Thomas B. Rotherham, of Nokomis, died Friday, May 29, 1998, in Golden Manor Nursing Home there. He was 82 years old on August 27. He was a mail clerk at Illinois National Bank, Springfield, until he retired. He was born in Atkinson, Nebraska, a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Gaffney Rotherham. He married Leona M. Bell in 1939. She died in 1988. Surviving are five daughters, seven sons, 35 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Services were held in Springfield with burial in Calvary Cemetery there.

Mr. Routt died Saturday, April 17, 1999, in Litchfield Health Care. He was 81 years old on May 22, and a veteran of the Army Air Corps of World War II. He was an agent for Standard Oil Company for 25 years before retiring on January 1, 1975. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post, serving as post commander in 1967 and 1968, and a charter member of the Raymond Fire Department. He was born in Butler, a son of Holbert and Bertha Martin Routt. He married Norma Vogel on September 27, 1939. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Sharon Rowland of Farmersville, Carla Sue Arnett of Springfield, Oregon, Paula Routt-Duckworth of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Mable Kraner of Litchfield; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Memorial service for Josephine "Jo" Rowe, of Hillsboro, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Patton Memorial Home there with the Rev. Mrs. Rowe died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 87 years old on October 5. She was a secretary for the Attorney General's office for approximately 32 years then with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Construction After retirement, she moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1974, where she managed a 284 unit mobile home park. She returned to Hillsboro in 1990. She was a member of the Christian Church of Litchfield, a former member of the National Secretaries Association where she also served as president. She was born in Fayette, Mo., a daughter of Joseph and Addie Pell Rowe, and graduated from Rosiclare High School. She never married. The last of her family, she was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Rowe. Survivors include her sister in law, Dorothy Rowe of San Diego, Calif.; nephew, Time Rowe, his wife Marti and their children, Jeff and Jodi, also of San Diego; and a long time friend, Lavonne Satterlee of Hillsboro.

She was 76 years old last August 9. She worked for the Senior Citizens Center, retiring in 1988. She also worked as a greeter at Toberman Funeral Home for many years. Prior to return to Coffeen in 1976, she worked for National Vendors in St. Louis. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Coffeen, the United Methodist Women and the Coffeen Senior Citizens. She was born in Coffeen, a daughter of Arch and Mabel Bowles Lewey, and attended schools there graduating in 1940. She married Harry Rowley on June 22, 1946, in Cabanne Methodist Church, St. Louis. He died December 28, 1998. Surviving are a son, Gregory R. Rowley and wife Karen of Webster Groves, Mo. and granddaughters, Christina, Jennifer and Lindsey. Preceding her in death were brothers, Harold, Clifford and Charles, Elbert Lewey.

Mr. Rowley died at Monday, December 28, 1998, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He would have been 77 years old on December 29. He moved to Coffeen at the age of 1, and graduated from Coffeen High School in 1941. He then moved to St. Louis where he lived for 35 years. He retired as a supervisor for Falstaff Brewery in St. Louis where he worked for 31 years. He returned to Coffeen in 1976. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Coffeen and the Moose Lodge in Hillsboro. He was born in Belleville, a son of Harry, Sr., and Zoah Austin Rowley. He married Elma Ruth Lewey on June 22, 2946, in St. Louis. She survives. Surviving also are a son, George Ross Rowley and wife Karen of Webster Groves, Mo.; sister, Arnolda Barr of Hazelwood, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer and Lindsey Rowley. Preceding him in death were brothers, Ross and Billy Arnold.

Mr. Rowley, of Napoleon, Ohio, died Thursday, December 24, 1998, in Ohio in the Henry County Hospital. He was 80 years old on March 2, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a foreman for the Campbell Soup Company before he retired, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 300, VFW Post 8218, and the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor Scenic River Drive group, all in Ohio. He was born in Montgomery County, a son of William A. and Alta A. Hoover Rowley. His wife, the former Camilla M. House, survives. Surviving also are daughters, Penny Rowley of Hershey, Pa., Debra Van Scoik of Hunterville, N.C., Trudy Grafton of Bryan, Ohio.; brothers, W. Leo Rowley of Hammond, Ind., Howard D. Rowley of Sesser; sisters, Alta Kellogg and Cora J. Angel, both of Winter Haven, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Barry Allen Rowley in 1951 and a sister, Marian Rowley.

He worked for Interstate Brands Baking Company as a Hostess delivery man, and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was reared in Newton, graduating from Newton High School in the class of 1979 and then from Lakeland Community College at Mattoon. He was born in Olney, a son of Oscar and Dorothy Kuenstler Rubsam. He married Kandy K. Estes on October 1, 1983, in Newton. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Jennifer N. Rubsam and Jill C. Rubsam, both at home; his parents of Newton; brothers, Gary, Steve and Greg Rubsam, all of Newton; and a sister, Cheryl Roth and husband Christopher of Mt. Zion. Mrs. Ruehrup died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 1998, in Village North Health Center, St. Louis. She was 95 years old on February 22. She was a bookkeeper for Charles Franz Car Dealership in Staunton and for several businesses in St. Louis before she retired. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Charles and Bertha Scmutzler Franz. She married August Ruehrup on June 22, 1929, in Staunton. He died January 13, 1983. Surviving are a nephew, Robert Ott of Staunton and his son, Jarid Ott. A sister, Luzella Biernath, preceded her in death.

Mr. Ruehrup died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. He was 75 years old last August 3. He was a stock clerk for the I.G.A. grocery store in Staunton for 32 years, and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He was born in Staunton, a son of Christian and Gertrude Steinmeyer Ruehrup, Jr. Surviving are a sister, Doris Vallow and husband Robert, and a brother, Edward Ruehrup, all of Staunton. A brother in law, John Warren, also survives. Preceding him in death was a sister, Helen Warren.
Ruffini, Helen F.
Services for Helen F. Ruffini, of Staunton, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Father George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mrs. Ruffini died at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 1998, in V.I.P. Manor, Wood River. She was 90 years old on May 2. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Staunton and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Perry and Pauline Schultz Voyles. She married Dan Ruffini on December 15, 1927. He died August 15, 1987. Surviving are a sister, Viola Frazer of Wood River and a brother, Arnold Voyles of St. Louis. Preceding her in death were a sister, Esther Reese and a brother, Norman Voyles.
Rufus, William
Memorial service for William "Uncle Bill" Rufus, of Hillsboro, will be held at noon Saturday in Patton Memorial Home there with the Rev. Eddie Diveley, pastor of South Side Church, Litchfield, officiating. VFW Post 1306, Taylor Springs will conduct military rites at graveside in Waveland Cemetery in rural Hillsboro. A visitation will be held in the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Mr. Rufus was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, at the scene of a traffic accident in Raymond Township of Montgomery County. He was 71 years old on March 27, and an Army veteran. He spent most of his life in the Hillsboro area, working as a laborer in construction and also for local lumber yards for many years. He was a member of VFW Post 1306, Taylor Springs and the Litchfield Moose Lodge. He was born in Hillsboro Township, a son of Eli and Stella McLean Rufus and was the last of his immediate family. Surviving are many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were four brothers, James, Robert, Clifford "Pat," Edward Rufus and five sisters, Bessie Beal, Grace Burrow, Dorothy White, Lena Atkinson and Beatrice Stout.

Services for Rosella Irene Rull, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Becker and Son Funeral Home there with the Rev. Ed Fogle officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Mrs. Rull died at 2:45 this morning, Thursday, October 22, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 96 years old on December 11. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Olive and taught Sunday school there for many years. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose in Litchfield and the Mt. Olive Senior Citizens.She was born in New Douglas Township, a daughter of William Sheridan and Nellie Mae Linxwiler Prickett. She married John Berne Rull on April 2, 1923, in Taylorville. He died February 1, 1970. Surviving are a sister, Ola Marie; a half brother, William Clinton Prickett of Sorento; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a step mother, Geneva O'Hara Prickett; sisters, Julia, Audry and Bessie; brother, John Edwin Prickett; half brother, Wayne Stanley Prickett; and half sister, Ada.
Rummer, Gilbert L.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Staunton Ambulance Service. Mr. Rummer died at 7:22 p.m. Monday, February 8, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. He was 94 years old on July 10. He worked as a welder in the Chicago area before he retired. A musician, he played in several area bands and was a member of the Musicians Union. He was born in Staunton, a son of William and Amelia Streeb Rummer. He married Nellie J. Basso on January 10, 1929, in Benld. She died June 15, 1997. Surviving are sisters, Bernice Guennewig of Staunton, Viola Nelson of Chicago and several nieces and nephews, including Sherry Allen of Gillespie.
Runta, Stanley

Mr. Runta died at 10:35 a.m. Monday, February 1, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 85 years old on June 30. He was a pipefitter for Olin Corporation in East Alton before he retired. He was born in Lithuania, a son of Stanley and Sophia Puskonic Runta. His wife, the former Eula Jacobs, died August 16, 1988. Surviving are sons, Stanley E. Runta and wife Marie of Benld, Gerald W. Runta and wife Cindy of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother, William Runta of Springfield; four grandchildren, Linda Brown, Teri Wargo, both of Gillespie, Jason and Jessica Runta, both of Fort Collins; and four great grandchildren, Erin and Matthew Brown, Haley and Hunter Wargo, all of Gillespie.
Ruppe, Minnie
Services for Minnie Ruppe, of Coffeen, were held Saturday morning in Toberman Funeral Home there. Burial was in Olive Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Ruppe died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, in Montgomery Health Care Center. She was 92 years old on May 19. She was a nurse's aide at Hillsboro Hospital for 20 years before she retired and was affiliated with the Methodist Church. She was born in Vandalia, a daughter of Albert and Lydia Eakin Trexler. She married Jesse Ruppe on February 24, 1934, in Bond County; he preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were a son, Herschel Ruppe; daughter, Janice Huber; brother, Ralph Trexler and sisters, Edna Deverick and Florence Sparks. Surviving are four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
