Savage, George R.
George R. Savage, brother of Vivian Compton of Donnellson, died Wednesday, December 22, 1999, in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. A resident of Peoria, he was 81 years old on March 23. Mr. Savage worked for Pabst Brewery in Peoria Heights for 38 years and retired in 1981 as a foreman. He was born in Panama, a son of George R. and Ida May McBride Savage. He married Doris J. Jones on June 16, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. She survives. Surviving also are two sons, a daughter, a brother, and six grandchildren. Services were held in the Peoria area with burial in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.

Services for Gladys Ellender Savage, of Litchfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Johnson of the Union Avenue Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Hart Cemetery in South Litchfield Township. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Mrs. Savage died at 4:50 this morning, Friday, May 14, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 86 years old. She taught in the elementary schools in Litchfield, Decatur and Peoria for 33 years. She retired in 1973. She was also a business woman, operating a residential rental business in Litchfield for 40 years. She was a member of the Easter Star, Illinois Education Assocaition, National Education Association and the Union Avenue Christian Church. She was born in rural Montgomery County, a daughter of Able Fulton and Dollie Green Minor. She married Glenn Edward Savage on December 22, 1940, in the Union Avenue Christian Church. He died July 22, 1998. Surviving are a son, Glenn E. Savage II and wife Nancy of Litchfield; grandsons, Scott Wesley Savage of Litchfield, Brian Edward Savage of Pekin; and three great grandchildren, Austin, Cassidy and Matthew Savage of Pekin. Services for Gladys Ellender Savage, of Litchfield, were held at 10 a.m. Monday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Johnson of Union Avenue Christian Church officiated. Burial was in Hart Cemetery. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "A Closer Walk with Thee." Pallbearers were Glenn Savage II, Glenn R. Savage, Scott Savage, Brian Savage, Dave Morgan and Brent McClean. Following the services a luncheon was provided for family and friends by the women of Union Avenue Christian Church. Mrs. Savage, 86, died Friday, May 14, in St. Francis Hospital.

Services for Glenn D. "Doc" Savage, formerly of Gillespie, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, with the Rev. Michael Keppler officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. John's Hospice or the Springfield Southern Baptist Church. Mr. Savage died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, September 14, 1998, in St. John's Hospice. He was 76 years old on February 15, and an Army veteran of World War II. He had resided in Springfield since 1934, and was employed as sales manager at Friendly Chevrolet. He also worked for Werner Motor and drove a school bus for Springfield School District 186. He was involved with youth baseball in Springfield for nearly 20 years. He was born in Gillespie, a son of Glenn D. and Rosa Grandame Savage. He married Ina Mae Hines on January 22, 1944. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Phyliss Jones and son, Glenn D. Savage Jr., both of Springfield; his mother, Rosa Burdzilauskas of Springfield; and six grandchildren.

He was an assembly line supervisor and shop foreman with Caterpillar Manufacturing at both the Decatur and Peoria plants before he retired. He was a member of the Union Avenue Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Litchfield and a member of Masonic Lodge 263 in Peoria for 57 years. He was an avid gardener. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Richard Owen and Sophia Ellen Smith Savage, and attended Bradley University in Peoria. He married Gladys Ellender Minor on December 22, 1940, in the Union Avenue Christian Church. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Glenn E. Savage II and wife Nancy of Litchfield; grandsons, Scott Wesley Savage of Litchfield, Brian Edward Savage of Pekin; and two great grandchildren, Austin and Cassidy Savage of Pekin. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Richard O. and John Savage and Ralph Sweeten. Services for Glenn Edward Savage, of Litchfield, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Union Avenue Christian Church. The Rev. Jay Johnson officiated. Burial was in Hart Cemetery in South Litchfield Township. During the service Vicki Watts was the organist. The hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" were sung by Paul Kincaid, who also accompanied himself on the piano. Pallbearers were the decedent's son, Glenn E. Savage II of Litchfield; grandsons, Scott W. Savage of Litchfield, Brian E. Savage of Pekin; a cousin, Glenn R. Savage of Oswego; and family friends, Brent McClean of Hillsboro and Dave Morgan of Morrisonville. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Following the committal service a luncheon was provided for the family and friends by the women of the church. Mr. Savage, 84, died Wednesday, July 22, in his home.

Mr. Savage died at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 1999, in Jeffersonian Care Center, Mt. Vernon. He was 86 years old on August 5. He worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Litchfield, also for the Litchfield Creamery Company where he had a milk route, and Boyd's Builders Supplies in Litchfield. He was born in Kenosha, Wis., a son of Lawrence F. and Abbie Moore Savage. He married Mamie B. Stewart on June 24, 1933, in Litchfield; she died July 3, 1967. He then married Lula Mae Law Franklin on September 19, 1969, in Litchfield; she died June 17, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Norma Jean Kelso of Mt. Vernon; step daughters, Marylee Large and husband Floyd of Litchfield, Helen Lucille Hamilton of Litchfield; brother, Marion Savage of Decatur; four grandchildren, four step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Wendell and Vernon Savage. Services for Norman W. Savage, formerly of Litchfield, were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Meinschein Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Lewis Savage, Sr., of Mt. Olive, died at 11:24 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was born in Niagra Falls, N.Y., a son of Romeo Joseph and Jeannette Curtis Savage, he was 53 years old on February 5. He was an iron worker and a member of Local 396 of St. Louis. Surviving are his father and step mother, Romeo Joseph Savage and wife Doris of Mt. Olive; mother, Jeanette Curtis Scrivano of Niagra Falls; sons, Richard L. Savage Jr. of Mt. Olive, Christopher Savage of DuQuoin; brothers, Roger Savage of St. Louis, Ronald Savage of Warrenton, Mo., Rodney Amendt of Niagra Falls, Robert Smith of Bunker Hill; sisters, Joanne Hampton, Janis Wolf and June Whacther, all of Mt. Olive; step sisters, Aldona Hall of Staunton, Annamae Watson of Niagra Falls; and several grandchildren. No services will be held. Becker and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sawyer died at 7:01 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 1999, in his home. He was 75 years old on December 4, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and an operating engineer with Operating Engineers Local 520 before he retired. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 151 AF&AM of Bunker Hill and the Easy Riders Saddle Club. He was born in Staunton, a son of Elvin and Dora Elliott Sawyer. He married Sharon Cooper on December 23, 1980. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Miles Sawyer of Gillespie, Raymond Hass of Davenport, Iowa; daughters, Donna Henke of Maryland Heights, Mo., Crystal Ball and husband Joe of Collinsville, Valerie Lakin and husband Bob of Effingham; sisters, Mildred Farris of Pawnee and Hazel McGaughey of Bethalto; seven grandchildren, Megan Bruhn, Betsy Sawyer, Heather and Ashley Lakin, Miles Henke, Jennifer Hass and Michael Ball; and a great grandchild, Kaitlin Bruhn. Optie Scales, mother of Elfredia Scribner of Nokomis, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999, in Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was 81 years old on August 1. She was born in Pulaski County, Ky., a daughter of Starlin and Demona Kisser Adkins. She married Carlos Delno Scales on January 30, 1934. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Larue Scales of Virden, Royce D. Scales of New Holland, Terry W. Scales of Monticello; two other daughters, Linda D. Farmer of Brandon, Miss., Elaine Blankenship of Warrensburg; sisters, Retha Roy and Shirley Kissenger, both of Louisville, Ky., Audrey Rainwater of Wichita Falls, Texas, 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three sons, six brothers and a sister. Services were held in Decatur with burial in the Harristown Cemetery.

Word has been received here of the death of Mary Patricia Frommeyer Scanlon on Sunday, July 19, 1998, in Evanston at the home of her son Peter and his wife, Jennifer. Jennifer Scanlon is a daughter of Brandon Flynn, formerly of Litchfield, and the niece of Katherine Flynn and Sister Mary Flynn who reside here in Litchfield. Mrs. Scanlon, of Bloomingdale in DuPage County, was 66 years old on February 7. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of James and Cecella Frommeyer. She was active with the Hospice of DuPage, Literacy Volunteers of America, Laubach Literacy Action Tutors, Catholic Charities Parish Bereavement Ministry and the Befriender Ministry. Surviving also are two other sons, Michael Scanlon and wife Sallie of San Francisco, Calif., Patrick Scanlon and wife Denise of Los Angeles, Calif.; four daughters, Patricia Scanlon of Lakewood, Ohio, Molly Venker and husband James of St. Louis, Kathleen MacLennan and husband Michael of East Moline, Megan Scanlon of Chicago; brother, James Frommeyer Jr. and wife Jane of Glenview, Robert Frommeyer and wife Margie and Thomas Frommeyer, all of Cincinnati; and 10 grandchildren. Services were held in Bloomingdale.

Mrs. Schardan died at 5:03 p.m. Friday, May 22, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. She was 91 years old on January 15. She was a lifeŠlong resident of the Staunton area, member of Zion Lutheran Church there and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was born in Worden, a daughter of George and Anna Mautz Vesper. She married William H. Schardan on June 18, 1927. He died May 30, 1986. Surviving are a daughter, Edith Passetti and husband Pete of Staunton; sons, William Schardan and wife Shirley, Leslie Schardan and wife Roseann, all of Staunton; a sister, Edith Haustein of Staunton; brother, George Vesper of Livingston; 17 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, George Schardan, three sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are sisters, Edna Janke of Maryland, Gladys Willman of Highland, Betty Hall of Cypress, Ga., Beulah Winters of Hillsboro; brothers, Floyd Scheifer of Witt; and half brothers, Melvin Short of Lockport, Emmitt Short of Witt. Olive school system for 11 years before she retired. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Theodore and Maria Schmidt Yaeger. She married Alfred Scheller on November 11, 1926. He died march 13, 1945. Surviving are daughters, Norma Kehnast, Marilyn Mengelkamp and husband Robert, all of Staunton; sons, Estel Scheller and wife Margaret, Gerald Scheller and wife Jeanette, all of White City, Larry Scheller and wife Sharon of Brighton; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was born in Winona, a daughter of Anthony and Frances Goscinski Lubrant. Her husband, Robert Schey, died June 26, 1973. Surviving are sons, Robert and Steve Schey, both of Wilsonville; daughters, Christy Wilson of Gillespie; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Mr. Schields died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the age of 54 years. He was the director of administrative services at St. Rita's Church in West Allis. Survivors include his wife, the former Kathleen Tuttle; daughters, Clair and Anne; parents, Al and Doris Shields; sister, Marsha Marzo and husband David; brother, Barry Shields and mother in law, Louise Tuttle.
Schievenin, Wanetta
Wanetta Schievenin, formerly of Nokomis, died Friday, October 16, 1998, in St. John's Hospital, Detroit, Mich. She was 85 years old on February 12. She was retired from General Electric where she worked as a time keeper. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Glenn and Bessie Davidson and graduated from Nokomis High School in 1931. She married Gene Schievenin on August 30, 1933, and soon afterwards they moved to Eastpoint, Mich. He survives. Surviving also are sisters, Glennis O'Malley and Jean Hulbert, both of Nokomis. Preceding her in death were brothers, Leslie and Lloyd Davidson and a sister, Doris. Services were held in Michigan with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Services for Mary Lee Schildt, of Staunton, were held at 11 this morning in Williamson Funeral Home there. The Rev. George Radosevich officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Schildt died at 8:36 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 1998, in Lehigh Acres, Fla. She was 61 years old on August 18. She was born in East St. Louis, a daughter of Adolph and Mary Mahoney Frieberg. She married Charles Schildt on November 8, 1978, in Louisville, Ky. He survives. Surviving also are a daughters, Lynne and Christine Schildt; sons, Kenneth and Terry Schildt, all of Staunton; her mother, Mary Frieberg of Staunton; sisters, Doris Lorenz of St. Charles, Mo., Kathleen Guerra of Granite City; and eight grandchildren. Her father, Adolph Frieberg, preceded her in death.
Schindler, Mary Louise
Memorial Mass for Mary Louise Schindler, formerly of Hillsboro, will be said at noon Saturday, December 5, in St. Ann Catholic Church, Normandy, her home parish. The Rev. Father James Edwards will preside. In accordance with her wishes, the remains were donated to the Washington University School of Medicine. Miss Schindler died Monday, October 19, 1998, in Mary Queen and Mother Center, Shrewsbury, Mo. She was 79 years old. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of Anthony and Caroline Schwartz Schindler. She attended Hillsboro schools, graduating from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1937. She was a secretary. After attending St. Louis Business College, she worked for three years at Century Electric Company. She then was employed by the Army and Air Force Motion Picture Service in St. Louis for 35 years. During that time, she spent 10 years at Ziegenberg, Bad Nauheim, West Germany. She retired in 1975. Surviving is a sister, Helen Ann Biebel and husband Paul J. of Carlisle, Pa. Other survivors include a sister in law, Josephine Bullington Schindler of Chesterfield, Mo. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Ann Church, 7530 Natural Bridge road, Normandy, MO 61231, or the American Heart Association, St. Louis chapter.

He was born in Olive Township of Madison County, a son of Fred H. and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Moehle Schlechte. He married Norma E. Brase on October 17, 1943, in Worden. She died May 3, 1975. He then married Sylvia Slifka on January 12, 1985 in Staunton. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Nelda Riecken and husband Jim of Holiday Shores; a son, Gerald Schlechte and wife Carol of rural Staunton; brothers, Harry Schlechte of rural New Douglas, Louis Schlechte of rural Worden; two grandchildren, Geoffrey Schlechte of rural Staunton and Corbi Riecken of Holiday Shores. Also, four step children, Judy Klein and husband Russell of Staunton, Frank Slifka and wife Alice of Livingston, Alan Slifka of Wauchula, Fla., Dave Slifka and wife Tammy of Staunton; seven step grandchildren and one step great grandson. She attended, but was not a member of, the Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield. She was born in Jackson, Ky., a daughter of Andrew and Dora Harvey Miller. She married Robert W. Schmechel on January 2, 1978, in Chicago. He survives. Surviving also are brothers, Herman Harvey of Lost Creek, N.Y., Earnie Miller of Chicago, Frank Miller of White Cloud, Mich; sisters, Kathleen Coomer and husband Jesse of Cothersville, Ind., Juanita Wooten and husband Ruie of Raymond, Eula Mae Filip and husband Rudy of Westfield, Wis. She was born in Harvel, a daughter of Harry and Nora Thunhorst Harbert. She married Herbert W. Schmedeke on December 5, 1937, in the Harvel Trinity Lutheran Church. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Don Schmedeke and wife Karen of Mt. Vernon; daughters, Irene Wattjes and husband Harold of Tuscola, Janet Bergman of Harvel; sister, Pearl Davis of Palmer; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, Loyd Schmedeke in 1938 and a sister, Marie Miles in 1990.
Schmidt, Frances E.
Frances E. Schmidt, formerly of Litchfield, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Carlinville. She would have been 99 years old on April 9. She resided in Carlinville for many years, working as an LPN for many years at the hospital there. In 1970, she was employed as housekeeper for the Monsignor Casimir Toliusis. She was a member of SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society of the church. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Robert and Anna Link Bellm. Her husband, Anthony Schmidt, whom she married in 1922, died in 1970. Surviving are sons, Robert Schmidt of Citrus Springs, Fla., Rev. Anthony Schmidt of Springfield, Rev. Carl Schmidt of Coffeen, Larry Schmidt of Collinsville, Joseph Schmidt of Quincy; daughters, Rosemary Pankratz of Lucedale, Miss., Virginia Drew of Quincy; 29 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. The remains have been donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine. Heinz Funeral Home, Carlinville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial service will be held April 13 in SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church with the Revs. Dean Probst, Anthony Schmidt and Carl Schmidt officiating.
Schmitt, Fern
Services for Fern Schmitt, mother of Jacqueline Stowe of Litchfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Hohlt and File Funeral Home, Vandalia, with the Rev. William Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery there. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home at 204 North Fourth street. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Shobonier Baptist Church or the Fayette County Hospital, LTC. Mrs. Schmitt, of Shobonier, died at 5:20 this morning, Tuesday, August 31, 1999, in Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia. She was 86 years old on March 26. She was a fancy stitcher for Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Company in Vandalia before she retired, and a member of the Shobonier Baptist Church. She was born in Vandalia, a daughter of Walter and Pearl Wright Evans. She married John F. Schmitt on June 24, 1933, in Vandalia. He died December 10, 1993. Surviving besides the daughter and her husband David Stowe, are a son, Jimmy Jo Schmitt and wife Edith of Monticello; brother, Warren Evans and wife Rea of Vandalia; five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a brother, Paul Evans.
Schmollinger, Dorothy J.
Dorothy Jean Schmollinger, formerly of Donnellson, died Saturday, November 6, 1999, in Utlaut Memorial Hospital, Green ville. She was 74 years old on April 30. She was born in Donnellson, a daughter of Paul M. and Emma Schmitt Busby. She married Merle Dean Schmollinger on April 30, 1949. He died October 23, 1998. Surviving are a son, Merle D. Schmollinger II of Green ville; daughters, Sharon Schmollinger of Edwardsville, Sandy Nolan of Green ville; brother, Paul Busby of Jensen Beach, Fla.; and one grandchild. Services were held in Green ville with burial in Smith Grove Cemetery.
Schnaare, Otto M.
Services for Otto M. Schnaare, formerly of Staunton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Leslie J. Mitkos officiating. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto. Friends may call on Thursday in the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Zion Lutheran School in Staunton. Mr. Schnaare died at 9 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1999, in Eden Village Care Center, Glen Carbon. He was 97 years old on December 24. He was a retired Teamster and construction worker, a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Staunton and the Wood River Laborers Local. He was born in New Douglas, a son of Soloman and Louise Hahn Schnaare. He married Edith C. Sawyer, daughter of the late Perry and Florence Sawyer, on November 21, 1925; she died at the age of 83 on January 23, 1992, in their home in Staunton. Surviving are a daughter, Geraldine VanPetten and husband Seward of Edwardsville; brother, Victor Schnaare of New Haven, Mo.; and a grandson, Steven L. VanPetten of rural Staunton. Preceding him in death were sisters, Martha Dohm, Clara McLaughlin, Erna Brackman and brothers, John, Walter, Ted and Oscar Schnaare.
Schneider, John T.
Services for John T. Schneider, of Worden, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Revs. Gregory Ohrenberg and Dee Lynn officiating. Burial will be in Worden City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Mrs. Schneider died at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2998, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 36 years old on February 8. He was a roofing contractor and a member of the Worden Christian Church. He was born in Staunton, a son of Allen A. and Gertrude M. Straub Schneider. He married Barbara Avanzini on August 9, 1994, in Worden. They survive. Surviving also are a daughter, Mari Ann Mulkins of Paris, Ill.; a son, Kenneth Van Huss of Irving; sisters, Rosemarie Pickerill and husband William of Staunton, Violet Lyerla and husband Lyle of Worden, Elizabeth Pickerill and husband Dale of Glen Carbon, Shirley Prosser and husband Robert of Williamson, Gloria Paolino and husband John of Stradford, Va. Preceding him in death were two brothers and a granddaughter.
