Sidwell, Helen Ann

Funeral arrangements for Helen Ann Sidwell, of Schram City, are pending at Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Mrs. Sidwell, 94, died at 12:33 this morning in Hillsboro Hospital. Services for Helen Ann Sidwell, of Schram City, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Bass Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Ted Schelich, chaplain at St. Francis Hospital, officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Agnes Catholic Church. Mrs. Sidwell died at 12:33 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital Extended Care. She was 94 years old on March 7. She worked for Hillsboro Glass Company at the time of her retirement. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. During the war she helped with the Navy club. She was born in Butler, a daughter of John S. and Margaret Ann Haley Carter. She married George David Sidwell on January 29, 1923, in Taylorville; he died March 2, 1978. Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Joan Ullman of Hillsboro and grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Sidwell of Schram City, Billy David Sidwell of Cobden, Shelley Ann Traylor of Cantrail, Rollina Caughron of Toney, Ala., and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two children, Billy Wallace Sidwell and Mary Jacqueline Koontz; brothers, Leo, Charlie, Frank and George Carter; sisters, Frances Payne, Maud Long, Ruth Carter.

Sidwell, Herbert W.

Services for Herbert William Sidwell, formerly of Sorento, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Perfetti Funeral Home there with Deacon Richard Fones officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Sidwell, of rural Pocahontas, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999, in Utlaut Memorial Hospital. He was 83 years old last May 30. He spent most of his life in the Sorento, Old Ripley and Pocahontas areas. He was born in Pocahontas, a son of James and Lillie Cisney Sidwell, and never married. Surviving is a sister, Cecil Frances Zoller and husband Earl of Edwardsville; several nieces and nephews and a sister in law, Nadine Christian of Sorento.

Siebert, Opal Vivian

Services for Opal Vivian Siebert, mother of Linda Merritt and Sally Broaddus, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church of Mulberry Grove with the Rev. William Mullis officiating. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery at Hagarstown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Ripperdan©Scheldknecht Funeral Home at Mulberry Grove. The family suggests memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove. Mrs. Siebert, of Mulberry Grove, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 15, 1998, in Fair Oaks Nursing Home at Green ville. She was 87 years old on January 19. She worked at the shoe factory in Vandalia and as a nurse's aide for several years. She was born in Vandalia, a daughter of Clarence Eugene and Mabel Frances Rench Eller. She married Carl Walter Siebert on September 7, 1929 in the home of the Rev. H.A. VanHorn in Vandalia. Mr. Siebert died March 22, 1996. Surviving are sons, Maurice and Kenneth Siebert, both of Granite City, Norman Siebert of Vandalia, Daniel Siebert of Bradley; daughters, Linda Merritt and husband Carroll of Morrisonville, Sally Broaddus and husband Mick of Raymond; sisters, Ethel Forbes of Vandalia, Nelda Hopkins of Mulberry Grove, Norma Waddelow of Pana; 27 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Carl Dean Siebert; daughter, Lucille Snow; and brothers, Jesse, John, Carl, Dean, Beryl and Wayne Eller.

Sielschott, William G.

Services for William George Sielschott, a teacher in Litchfield area schools for 41 years before his retirement in 1972, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church of Litchfield with the Rev. Gary Allen officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church Building Fund. Mr. Sielschott died at 5:30 this morning, July 13, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 87 years old on December 14. He first taught in rural schools around Litchfield, including the Hornsby school and later became principal at Madison Park Elementary where he served for many years. He also farmed in North Litchfield Township. He was a life long member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon of the church for more than 50 years and teaching Sunday school. He served two terms on the county board, from 1972 to 1980, and was a member of the Montgomery County Retired Teachers. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1929, attended Blackburn College in Carlinville and graduated from Shurtleff College in Alton. He was born in Litchfield, a son of William Henry and Adelta Maud Friend Sielschott. He married his first wife, Juanita June Coatney in August 1934 and she died on November 14, 1982. He married Juanita June Rice Cranford on January 24, 1986. She survives. Surviving also are a son, William E. Sielschott and wife Jan of Litchfield; daughter, Sheryl Denton and husband John of Maryville; stepson, Larry Cranford and wife Sheril of Hamel; seven grandchildren, William L. Sielschott and wife Gina of Shelbyville, Nell Pingleton and husband Mike of Champaign, Amy Hartman of Litchfield, James Denton of Maryville, Laura Henske and husband Brian of Creve Coeur, Mo., Julie Graham and husband David of Harvel, Susie White and husband Daniel of Litchfield; and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a sister, Hazel Sielschott. Services for William G. Sielschott, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Gary Allen officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. With organist Ruth Holliday accompanying them, vocalist Shirley Edwards sang "How Great Thou Art" and Sandy Keith led the congregation in singing "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder" and "Victory in Jesus." Pallbearers were Glenn Brachear, Frank Carroll, Bill Cornman, Carl Hampton, Bob Martin and Delbert Sielschott. Following the services a luncheon was held for family and friends by the women of the church. In charge of arrangements was Plummer Funeral Home. Mr. Sielschott, 87, died Tuesday, July 13, in St. Francis Hospital.

Sievers, Elmer C.

Service for Elmer C. Sievers, of Worden, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at graveside in Worden City Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Feyen will officiate. The remains will be cremated. Williamson Funeral Home, Worden, is in charge of arrangements. No visitation is planned. Mr. Sievers died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, December 25, 1999, in Hampton Nursing Care, Alhambra. He was 77 years old on December 15. He was a surveyor for Shepard, Morgan and Swalb Surveying Company in Granite City before he retired in the 1970s. He previously worked in a Hartford Tannery. He resided all of his life in the Worden area and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Staunton. He was born in Olive Township, Madison County, a son of Fritz and Alwine Albrecht Sievers. The last of his family, he is survived by several cousins.

Simmons, Earl R.

Earl Reed "Huck" Simmons, formerly from the Coffeen and Hillsboro area, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, in San Diego, Calif. He was 75 years old. He was 17 years old when he joined the Navy and served 20 years. After his discharge he entered the Civil Service, working for 10 more years. He resided in Chula Vista, Calif. His parents were Alva and Gladys Bone Simmons. Surviving are a son, Earl Simmons Jr. of Nevada; sisters, Marjorie Brinton of Nevada, Jewell Post of Peoria, Annabelle Robertson of Mt. Olive; and one grandson. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Society.

Simmons, Ray F.

Ray F. Simmons, formerly of Litchfield and Waggoner, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, in Hamden, Conn. He was 89 years old on October 30, and an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Simmons, of Hammond, Ind., was retired from M&T Chemical of East Chicago, a division of American Can Company, and was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Black Oak. He was born in Waggoner, a son of Walter and Lillie Pratt Simmons, and reared in Litchfield. He married Frances Smith in 1945, and they resided in the Hammond area most of their wedded life. She died last February. Surviving are a daughter, Marcella Cumur and husband Irfan of Hamden, Conn.; brothers, Charles and Wilton Simmons, both of Litchfield; sisters, Alma Bolar and husband Matt of Litchfield, Iva Korunka of Mt. Olive; and three grandchildren, Aileen, Nadia and Jamil. Preceding him in death were brothers, Clyde, Roy, Everett, at the age of 2, and Lester Simmons and a sister, Mary Armour. Services were conducted in St. Ann's Church in Black Oak. Burial was in St. John Cemetery at Hammond.

Simmons, Roberta P.

Roberta P. Simmons, sister of Alice M. Glass of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in Passavant Hospital, Jacksonville. She was 63 years old last May 25. She was born in Jacksonville, a daughter of George W. and Reba Elizabeth Roate Brown. Surviving are two children, Tommy Lee Simmons and Melissa Selcer, both of Jacksonville along with five brothers and two other sisters, none from the local area. Services are being held in Jacksonville with Williamson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Bluffs.

Simms, Ruth Noe

Services for Ruth Noe Simms, formerly of Sorento, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Perfetti Funeral Home there with the Rev. Lina Peyla officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Simms died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 1998, in Fair Oaks Nursing Home, Green ville. She was 103 years old on March 15. She was born in Sorento, a daughter of Frank and Rose Diamond Shields, and spent her early life in the Sorento and Panama area. She married Henry Noe and they moved to Peoria. They were later divorced. She moved to Green ville, Calif., with her second husband, Joe Simms, and resided there until after his death. She then returned to live in Green ville, Ill. Her only son, Laurel R. Noe, died September 27, 1983. Surviving are a daughter in law, Lucille Noe of Green ville and a half sister, Helen Alberini of San Diego, Calif. Preceding her in death, also, were sisters, Gladys Kirkland, Evyle Shields and a cousin, Olive Lebeter who was reared in the Shields home as a sister to Mrs. Simms.

Six, Delos Frank

Services for Delos Frank Six, formerly of the Litchfield and Hillsboro areas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home, Virden. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Firday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Kidney Foundation. Mr. Six, of Virden, died at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1999, in Westabbe Nursing Center, Springfield. He was 73 years old on March 4, and an Army vetrean. He was a farmer and a salesman for the Morman Feed Company in Hillsboro. He attended the Irving Pentecostal Church and was a member of both the Irving and the Girard Masonic Lodges. He was born in Auburn, a son of Frank and Lillian Snow Six. He married Lois Adams in June 1949 in Missouri. She survives. Surviving also is a brother, Roy Six of Lake Havesau City, Ariz. Preceding him in death was a son in infancy.

Skeldon, Lester D.

Funeral Mass for Lester D. Skeldon, of Gillespie, will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday in SS. Simon and Jude Church there by the Rev. Father Larry Auda. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Gillespie, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 4547, Gillespie. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. Prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to Alzheimer's Foundation. Mr. Skeldon died at 4:28 a.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 79 years old on November 29, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was an operator for Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River before he retired, member of VFW Post 4547, SS. Simon and Jude Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 2096, all in Gillespie. He was born in Gillespie, a son of John W. and Agnes Hailstone Skeldon. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Cavanaugh on September 3, 1939 in SS. Simon and Jude Church. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Ronnie Skeldon of Sumpter, S.C., John Skeldon of Phoenix, Ariz., Dennis, David and Chuck Skeldon, all of Gillespie; daughters, Judy Ernst of Nokomis, Lynne Striegel, Loretta Troutwine and Beth Rauzi, all of Gillespie; brother, Walter Skeldon of Sholo, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were sisters, Agnes Stewart and Hazel Voyles.

Skinner, Gertrud

Gertrud "Trudy" Skinner, who has family in the local area, died Saturday, December 18, 1999, in the Evansville Manor, Evansville, Wis. She was 79 years old on May 2. She was born in Wieseck - Giessen, Germany, a daughter of Henrich and Marie Weller, and moved to Southern Illinois in 1955, where she raised five sons. In 1994, she moved to Evansville. Surviving are sons, Anu Skinner and wife Radhe of Milwaukee, Gil Skinner and wife Diane of Evansville, Fred Skinner and wife Sharon of Evansville, John Skinner and wife Debbie of Summerfield and Glen Skinner of Madison; grandchildren, Heather Culbertson, Aaron Skinner, Emily, Sara and Eliot Skinner, Mark, Elizabeth and Michelle Trokey; and six great grandchildren. Others surviving include a special friend and sister in law, Rosel Weller and sister in law, Gertie Weller along with nephews Frank and Arno Weller. Preceding her in death were her husband, Amos Skinner and brothers, Walter, Ottmar and Erich Weller. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8, in the Kelly House at Evansville, Wis. Burial will take place later in Frankfurt, Germany.

Skinner, Troy

Services for Troy Skinner, of Morrisonville, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Hough Colonial Home, Morrisonville. Burial will be in St. Maurice's Cemetery, Morrisonville. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday after 9 a.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to Morrisonville Palmer Ambulance Service. Mr. Skinner died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 1998, in Memorial Hospital, Springfield. He was 83 years old on December 12, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer, and a member of St. Maurice's Catholic Church in Morrisonville. born in Palmer, he was a son of Alfred and Della McKinney Skinner. A sister, Grace Durbin of Morrisonville, survives. Preceding him in death were one brother and five sisters.

Slater, Betty J.

Services for Betty Jean Slater, wife of retired Judge Bill Slater, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in McCracken Funeral Home, Pana. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery at Rosamond. Mrs. Slater died Tuesday, September 14, 1999, in Pana Community Hospital. She was 77 years old on June 4. She was born in Springfield, a daughter of Arthur and Mary Christoph Schroeder. Her husband, Bill J. Slater, whom she married in 1946 in Springfield, survives. Surviving also are daughters, Cynthia Stalets of Chatham, Nancy Voudrie of Pana; son, Judge David W. Slater of Pana; and five grandchildren. Both of the Judges Slater have served in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

Slaby, Michael V.

Services for Michael V. Slaby, of Staunton, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Father George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to Staunton Home Health. Mr. Slaby died at 8:23 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 1999, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. He was 85 years old on July 25. He was loading dock worker before he retired, and a member of Teamsters Local 710, Chicago. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton. He was born in Staunton, a son of Ignac and Mary Kobiliak Slaby. There are no immediate survivors. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Slaughter, Frank E.

Services for Frank E. Slaughter, of Nokomis, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church there with the Rev. James Norton officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday in the church after 1 p.m. Mr. Slaughter died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 1998, in Golden Manor Nursing home. He was 95 years old on March 25. He was a farmer. He was born in Nokomis, a son of Henry and Sarah Johnson Slaughter. He married Ina M. Halleman on December 19, 1943, in St. Paul's. She died February 27, 1997. Surviving are daughters, Donna Hilligoss and husband Marvin of East Alton, Nancy Durbin and husband Loren of Coffeen, Marsha Pray and husband Delmar of Nokomis; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding him in death were two children in infancy, Sheryl Ann and Gary Frank; two brothers, John and Elmer Slaughter; and a sister, Emma Slaughter.

Slifka, Bella

Bella Slifka died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. She was 85 years old on January 30. She resided in the Staunton area, in Olive Township, for 17 years before moving to Chicago. She returned to Staunton earlier this month. She was born in Thurber, Texas, a daughter of John and Mary Ponsetti Cima. She married John "Jack" Slifka on August 12, 1960, in Chicago; he died June 22, 1994. Surviving are a son, John Rossini and wife Joan of Homewood; daughter, Margaret Rossini of Downers Grove; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Pete Rossini and a sister, Margaret Cima. Services were held at 11 this morning in Lesicko Funeral Home, Livingston. Burial was in Spangle Cemetery at Livingston.

Slightom, Helen Elizabeth

Helen Elizabeth Slightom, whose husband, Donald, was formerly from Litchfield, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 1998, as the result of a massive heart attack. She and Donald Miles Slightom were married July 30, 1949. He survives. She was 85 years old on May 31 and a resident of the Joliet area most of her life. She was born in Normanstown. Surviving besides her husband are her children, Diana Totte and husband Rick, Gwen Book and husband Ray, Jack Book and wife Dollie, all of Joliet, and Chuck Book of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren. A son, Gene Book, five sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Services were held Saturday in Joliet with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery there. Blackburn Funeral Home of Joliet was in charge of arrangements. Expressions of condolence may be sent to Donald Slightom in care of 14 Birch, Minooka, IL 60447.

Small, Robert M.

Robert M. Small, formerly of Raymond, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 1999, in his home in Peoria. He was 79 years old on January 24, and a Marine veteran of World War II. During the war he served in the South Pacific. He was a carpenter for B&B Builders in Trivoli for 33 years before he retired in 1987, and a member of the Trivoli United Methodist Church. He was born in Raymond, a son of John and Emma Thielen Small. He married Helen Baggs on July 15, 1944, in Peoria. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Michael Small and wife Shellie of Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Pamela Anderson and husband Ronald of Washington, Rebecca Turner and husband Randy of Peoria, Cindy Small of Seattle, Kimberly Jo Small of Lincoln; brother, Melvin Small of Peoria; and five grandchildren. Services were held this morning in his church. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Smiley, Jason A.

Services for Jason A. Smiley, of Staunton, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Terry Breum officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Smiley died at 3:22 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 1999, in Anderson Hospital, Maryville, following an early morning accident on Interstate 55 near Hamel. He was 26 years old on February 26. He was a machinist with Olin Corporation in East Alton, where he had worked for seven years. He was born in Staunton, a son of Richard Smiley and Roberta Boston Tevini, and was not married. Surviving are a son, Brandon Smiley of Staunton; his mother, Roberta Tevini of Staunton; father, Richard Smiley of Granite City; brother, Jeff Tevini of Staunton; and grandparents, Elmer and Donna Boston of Mt. Olive.

Sminchak, Gertrude

Services for Gertrude Sminchak, of Staunton, will be held at noon Saturday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Father George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mrs. Sminchak died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. She was 82 years old on June 4. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Adolph and Frieda Karger Guenther. She married Stephen G. "Sam" Sminchak on October 12, 1940, in Staunton. He died January 30, 1995. Surviving are sons, Stephen Sminchak and wife Loretta, Richard Sminchak and wife Janet, all of Staunton; four grandchildren, Mary Jo Sample and husband Danny of Colorado Springs, Colo., Stephen L. Sminchak, William Sminchak, Tuesday D. Sminchak, all of Staunton. Other survivors include a sister in law, Marjorie Guanther of Cahokia. Preceding her in death was a brother, Adolph Guenther.

Smith, Arthur L.

Services for Arthur L. Smith, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Plummer Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Bell, pastor of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Montgomery West Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Mr. Smith died at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 1999, in St. francis Hospital. He was 88 years old. He was a mail carrier for 30 years with the Litchfield Post Office; he retired in 1972. As a young man he worked at the Brown Shoe Company and the Farmers Exchange grocery store in Litchfield. He was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church and the Litchfield Masonic Lodge which he served as past Worshipful Master, Order of the Eastern Star which he served as past Worthy Patron. He was also a member of the Litchfield Senior Citizens Club and the Ansar Temple in Springfield. He held the 33rd degree of Masonry. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Horace and Dora Jane Smith. He married Lucille Smith on February 10, 1934, in the Litchfield Methodist Church Parsonage; she died March 22, 1999. Surviving are a son, Richard Smith and wife Jerri of Springfield; daughter, Sylvia Boehme and husband Keith of Litchfield; three grandchildren, Mike Boehme of Hillsboro, Jill Curtis of Litchfield, Barry Smith of Springfield; one great granddaughter and three step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a brother, Donald Smith and a sister, Edith George. Services for Arthur L. Smith, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Plummer Funeral Home. Rev. Tony Bell of St. Timothy Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Musical selections were "In the Garden," "The Lord's Prayer," and "Blest Be the Tie that Binds." Pallbearers were Dale Hughes, Loyd Nail, Don Warren, Dale Green walt, Rolland Longcor and Harold Pence. Following the services a luncheon was provided for family and friends by the women of the church. Mr. Smith, 88, died Sunday, May 16.

Smith, Beatrice

Services for Beatrice "Bea" Smith, of Raymond, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Raymond United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Kent Lolling officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Hough Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Raymond United Methodist Church or the Raymond - Harvel Ambulance Service. Mrs. Smith died at 4:48 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was 87 years old on January 5. She was a teacher and taught for three years at the Rosedale School. She was a member of the Raymond United Methodist Church and the Mispath class of the church. She was born in Morrisonville, a daughter of Lution T. and Lila Fountain Watts Entsminger. She married Kenneth Smith of Taylorville on November 18, 1933. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Robert Smith and wife Melba of Raymond, and a daughter, Ruth Ann Driskell and husband Dallas of Taylorville. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Mary Lou Bates on March 9, 1999; sisters, Louise Fountain Entsminger on August 21, 1909, Ethel Beckmeier on February 15, 1963; and a brother, Walter Smith on August 9, 1946.

Smith, Carl W.

Services for Carl W. "Bill" Smith, formerly of Hillsboro, were held this morning in Dawson and Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mr. Smith, of Mt. Zion, died at 3:17 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999, in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis. He was 69 years old on June 10, and an Army veteran. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Carl and Charlotte Kelly Smith. He married Donna M. Boyd on May 29, 1954. She survives. Surviving also are Jerry W. Smith and wife Christine, Kevin W. Smith and wife Kim, all of Mt. Zion, and four grandchildren.

Smith, Cassandra

Cassandra A. "Cassey" Smith, of Waverly, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at Lake Lou Yaeger in Litchfield. She was 40 years old on March 16. She was born in Atlanta, Ga., resided for several years in Akron, Ohio and for the past six years in Waverly. Surviving are her husband, David A. Smith; father, Paul Shelton of Springfield; and a brother, Shaun L. Her mother, Rhea A. Bryan, preceded her in death. Services were held this morning in Staab Funeral Home.

Smith, Clifford A.

Funeral Mass for Clifford A. Smith, of Nokomis, will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Louis Catholic Church there by the Rev. Father Pat Jakel. Burial will be in St. Maurice Cemetery, Morrisonville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Sutton Funeral Home, Nokomis. Rosary will be said at 4:45 p.m. Mr. Smith died at 3:58 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 1999, in Pana Community Hospital. He would have been 87 years old on December 12. He was a retired farmer, member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Modern Woodman. He was born in Grayson County, Ky., a son of George A. and Bertha Clemen Smith. He married Louise Babbs in 1938 in Stonington. Surviving are sons, James Smith and wife Betty of Oconee, Wendell Smith and wife Jane of Ohlman, Richard Smith and wife Judy of Nokomis, Carl Smith and wife Darlene of Rory, Utah, Robert Smith and wife Paula of Pana; daughters, Pamela Thull and husband Bob of Ramsey, Sharon Warren and husband Rex of Petersburg; brothers, George Smith and wife Tracy, Eugene Smith and wife Georgette of Leitchfield, Ky.; sisters, Rosemary Dawood and husband Yourish of Scottsdale, Ariz., Joyce Hopper and husband Andy of Louisville, Ky., Anne Kelty and husband Chuck of Leitchfield; 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two children, Joseph and Patricia and six brothers and sisters.

Smith, Edward Carl

Services for Edward Carl Smith, of Gillespie, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Kravanya Funeral Home there with the Rev. Dennis Hill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Staunton. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Gillespie Benld Ambulance Service. Mr. Smith died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. He was 87 years old on October 18. He was a machine operator at Schein Body and Equipment Manufacturing in Carlinville before he retired. He was born in Pine, Mo., a son of William and Melinda Pigg Smith. His first wife, the former Mabel Price , preceded him in death. His second wife, the former Vera Moon Wiersma, survives. Surviving also are a son, John Wiersma and wife Linda of Gillespie; daughters, Phyllis Pollo and husband Joseph of Benld, Joyce Fernandes and husband Robert of Springfield; brother, Clifford Smith of Cebance; sisters, Ruth Cates and Pualine Mann, both of Mill Spring, Mo.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Earl, Roy, Fred and Jerry Smith.
