Smith, Kathleen L.

Funeral Mass for Kathleen L. Smith, formerly of Staunton, will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Michael's Catholic Church there by the Rev. Father George Radosevich. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton. Ms. Smith died Thursday, August 27, 1998, in her home in Lakeland, Fla. She was 39 years old on October 5. She was a hostess at the Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Country Club in Orlando, Fla. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Richard and Viola Smith, now of Litchfield. Surviving besides her parents are sisters, Patricia A. White, Sherry L. Petri, Lauri A. Sudholt and brothers, Michael R., Mark A., Andrew C. and Timothy W. Smith, all of Staunton.

Smith, Kimberly Jo

Services for Kimberly Jo Smith, formerly of Gillespie, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Kravanya Funeral Home there with Arthur Roemer officiating. Burial will be in Union Miners Cemetery, Mt. Olive. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Kim Smith Memorial Fund. Mrs. Smith, of Mt. Olive, died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 1998, in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. She would have been 30 years old on November 21. She was a service representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, and a volunteer at Mt. Olive Elementary School. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Charles and JoAnn Pomatto Buckner. She married David Smith on September 7, 1991, in Gillespie. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Zachary Smith of Mt. Olive; her parents, Charles and JoAnn Buckner of Gillespie; brothers, Brian Buckner of Carlinville, Brad Buckner of Gillespie; grandparents, Martin and Mary Pomatto of Wilsonville, Rose Buckner of Gillespie. Preceding her in death were her grandfathers, George Buckner and Mario Pomatto.

Smith, Lucille

Services for Lucille Smith, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Bell, pastor of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Plummer Funreal Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 22, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 87 years old on June 12. She was a machine operator with Roller Derby Skate Corporation before she retired in 1973. She had also worked for the Brown Shoe Company in Litchfield. She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church and the Reapers Class of the church, a 50 year member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Hermon Chapter 94 in Hillsboro, and a member of the Litchfield Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed played cards. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Fred and Mattie Ball Britton. She married Arthur L. Smith on February 10, 1934, in the Methodist Church parsonage in Litchfield. He survives. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Surviving also are a son, Richard Smith and wife Jerri of Springfield; daughter, Sylvia Boehme and husband Keith of Litchfield; sisters, Frances Reubart and Mary Becker, both of Litchfield; three grandchildren, Mike Boehme of Hillsboro, Jill Curtis of Litchfield, Barry Smith of Springfield; one great granddaughter and three step great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, Earl Britton and a sister, Lillian Leitschuh. Services for Lucille Smith, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Tony Bell of St. Timothy United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Musical selections for the service were "Amazing Grace," "Softly and Tenderly" and "Blest Be the Tie That Binds." Pallbearers were John Groves of Atwater, Bud Leitschuh, Jim Leitschuh, Roland Longcor, all of Litchfield, Joe Leitschuh of Mt. Olive and Raymond Leitschuh of Fillmore. Following the services a meal was provided for the family and friends by the women of St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith, 87, died Monday, March 22, in St. Francis Hospital.

Smith, Nellie M.

Services for Nellie M. Smith, of Gillespie, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church there with the Rev. Ron Brooker officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Kravanya Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, of which she was a member, or to the Gillespie © Benld Ambulance Service. Mrs. Smith died at 4:43 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 72 years old on May 7. She was a bookkeeper for Gillespie Plumbing and Heating for 17 years before she retired. She was a 1942 graduate of Gillespie High School. She was born in Gillespie, a daughter of Charles W. and Ella Bohlen Schmidt. She married Lyle "Red" Smith on July 11, 1959. He survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Brenda Smith Lucca and husband Glenn of Kingston; brother, Charles Schmidt of Carlinville; sisters, Elsie Schmidt Puype, Helen Schmidt, both of Gillespie; four grandsons, Adam, Bret, Mason and Thomas Lucca, all of Kingston. Preceding her in death was a sister, Jessie Schmidt Mansholt; brothers, Wade and Milton Schmidt.

Smith, Oliver Allen

Oliver Allen Smith, father of Charles Smith and Joyce Beirman of Raymond, died Saturday, September 19, 1998, in Girard. He was 75 years old on September 25. Mr. Smith, of Scheller and formerly of Morrisonville, was a son of Marion and Lenora O'Brien Smith and married Dorothy Durbin in 1943 in Taylorville. Surviving are another son, Allen Smith of Mt. Vernon; five other daughters, Judy Lair of Auburn, Jean Ersery of Taylorville, Brenda Reitz of Monticello, Janet Jones of Fillmore, Janice Myers of Girard; 19 grandchildren and 17 gret grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Moffitt Funeral Home, Morrisonville. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery.

Graveside service for RW "Rip" Smith, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Redmen Cemetery in DeQueen, Arkansas, with the Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Wilkerson Funeral Home in DeQueen is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Smith, of Carthage, Texas, died Friday, July 16, 1999, in Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. He was 61 years old on August 6. He worked as a mechanic and was of the Methodist faith. He was born in Floydada, Texas. His wife, Vada, survives. Surviving also are daughters, Edie Raney of Garland, Texas and Toi Kruse of Litchfield; his mother, Fula Smith of Carthage; brother, John Smith of St. Louis; and three grandchildren.

Smith, Shirley

Services for Shirley "Smitty" Smith, brother of James Smith of Fillmore, were held this morning in Berea Christian Church of Mt. Auburn. Burial was in Berea Cemetery. Mr. Smith, of Mt. Auburn, died Saturday, October 2, 1999, in his home. He was 67 years old on July 6. He was owner and oeprator of Smitty's Pub before he retired, and also previously owned and operated the Vintage Vault Diner. He was born in Cypress, a son of Samule R. and Mary Isom Smith. He married Carold D. Burns in 1951 in Mt. Auburn. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Shirley J. Stuart, Mary J. Ryan, both of Illiopolis, Carol Ann Cerara of rural Warrensburg; son, Timothy D. Smith of Danvers; three other brothers, Bobby Smith of Mt. Auburn, Glen Eddleman of Decatur, Paul Howard of Centralia; sisters, Ruby Hoppaw of Edinburg, Virginia Gregory of Detroit and Louis Blackburn of North Baltimore, Ohio; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Smith, Ulysses S.

Graveside service for Ulysses S. "Sol" Smith, of American Canyon, Calif., was held this morning in Stonington at the Old Stonington Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Monday, October 18, 1999, in John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek, Calif. He was 80 years old on September 23. He served with the Army Air Force Flying Tigers in World War II. In civilian life he was a speech therapist with the Vallejo Unified School District. He was born in Gatliff, Ky., a son of Tipton and Blanche Lay Smith. He married Esther R. Covington of Stonington. She survives. Surviving also are sisters, Thelma Mittlebach of Arizona, Elenor Mauch of Atwood; brothers, O.J. Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla., Don Smith of Huntsville, Texas. Preceding him in death was a brother, Chester Smith.

Smock, Clifford Nathan

Clifford Nathan Smock, formerly of Farmersville, died Saturday, December 5, 1998, in Huntsville, Alabama. He resided in nearby Scottsboro and was 73 years old on March 5. He was born in Divernon, a son of Nathan D. and Mary V. Skeen Smock, and was reared in Farmersville, attending schools there. He joined the Navy before graduating from high school and spent 22 years in the service, seeing action in both World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a Chief Petty officer. After leaving the service he worked for a missile parts manufacturer in California. He and his family moved to Alabama in 1976. He and his wife, Betty Jean, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary shortly before she died on April 8, 1996. Surviving are daughters, Barbara Beaty and husband Ronald of Scottsboro, Connie Fisher and husband Dennis, Judy Fratus and husband Fred, all of Waukegan; a son, Clifford Gene Smock of Scottsboro; his mother, Mary Smock of Litchfield; sisters, Joann Davis and husband Robert, Freda Wanger, all of Litchfield; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death besides his wife were his father, Nathan Smock; brothers, James and Steven Smock; and a grandson, David Paul Beaty. Services were held Tuesday in Rudder Funeral Home at Scottsboro. Burial was in Pine Haven Cemetery near Scottsboro. Attending from Litchfield were his sister, Joann Davis and her grandson, Terry Darrah and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hankins and daughter Kim.

Sneddon, Florece E.

Services for Florece E. Sneddon, sister of Louis Davidson of Litchfield, were held at 10 this morning in Shafer Funeral Home, Taylorville. Burial was in Fraley Cemetery there. Mrs. Sneddon died Friday, October 9, 1998, in Springfield. She was 60 years old on April 6. She was born in Taylorville, a daughter of Jacob and Georgia Edith Reber Emerson. Her husband, Peter Douglas Sneddon, whom she married in 1955 in Taylorville, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, John Douglas Snedden of Palmer, Kevin and Rick Sneddon, both of Taylorville; a daughter, Cinda Sue Sausaman of Springfield; two other brothers, Frank and Tim Emerson of Taylorville; sisters, Linda Cloyd, Georgia Elam, Flossie McCauley, Josephine Tarrant, all of Taylorville, Marilyn Smith and Betty Summers of Dixon; and 10 grandchildren.

Snider, Evelyn

Services for Evelyn Snider, of rural Coffeen, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Toberman Funeral Home there with the Rev. Ronald Rhodus officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Baptist Children's Home in Carmi or the Shiloh Cemetery, Coffeen. Mrs. Snider died Sunday, April 4, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 89 years old on January 13. She was a graduate of Fillmore High School, earned a teachers certificate from Eastern Illinois University, and taught school at Vanburensburg, White Hall and Shiloh rural schools. After marriage she farmed with her husband in the Coffeen area for as long as health permitted. She was a member of the Baptist faith, Sunday School teacher and church worker for many years. She was also a former member of the Montgomery County Homemakers Extension, now called the Montgomery County Association for Home and Community Education, also a member in the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing. She was born near Bingham, a daughter of Andrew and Rose Kettelkamp Brackebusch. She married Eldon Snider on August 12, 1934, in the home of her parents. He died January 6, 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Ann Lawler and husband Loren of Coffeen, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, Arthur Brackebusch and a sister, Frieda Brackebusch.

Snider, Harry C.

Services for Harry Clifford Snider, of Coffeen, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Toberman Funeral Home there with the Rev. Don Cranfill officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in rural Coffeen. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to East Fork Baptist Church, Coffeen, or Hillsboro Hospital. Mr. Snider died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 75 years old on September 10. He farmed and did carpentry work most of his life. He was a member of the East Fork Baptist Church. He was born in Coffeen, a son of Samuel H. and Corda E. Hickman Snider. He married Audrey J. Settle on March 10, 1948, in Hillsboro. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Tracy Snider of Springfield; a daughter, Brenda Oberle and husband Albert of Hillsboro; sisters, Ruth Green wood of Coffeen and June Eson of Taylorville; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding him in death were brothers, Wesley and Eldon Snider and sisters, Louise Whitten, Nellie Reincke and Jane Snider.

Snyder, Robert Emile

Memorial service for Robert Emile James Snyder, formerly of Hillsboro, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 14 in Kankakee at the chapel in Mount Grove Cemetery. Mr. Snyder, of Chicago, died September 28, 1998, in Morton Grove. He was 76 years old. He was a professor at Roosevelt University in Chicago where he was chairman of the Marketing department and associate dean of the Walter E. Heller College of Business. His career began in broadcasting as a founder of KXIC in Iowa City, Iowa. Later he owned WKID in Champaign and WKDC in Elmhurst. He was active in Rotary International and the Boys Scouts of America, from whom he received the Silver Beaver award. He was born in Hillsboro, graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1940, the University of Illinois in 1944, and Iowa State University in 1947. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1964 from the University of Iowa. He served in the Army Signal Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. Surviving are his wife, the former Marion Fisher; sons, Lawrence Snyder of Seattle, Wash., Alden Snyder of Lisle; brother, John Snyder of Wilmington, Del.; sisters, Lillian Snyder of Nauvoo, Helen Whatley of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Solander, Theodore C.

Graveside service for Theodore Carl Solander, of Staunton, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, with the Rev. Arvid Adell officiating. Calvert - Belangee - Bruce Funeral Home at Farmer City is in charge of arrangements. This morning a funeral service was held in the First United Methodist Church of Staunton with the Rev. Kevin Boesen officiating. The family suggests memorials be directed to the church. Mr. Solander died at 7:35 p.m. Friday, February 12, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. He was 84 years old on April 2. He was manager of the Newberry 5&10 store in Litchfield and the Walkers 5&10 store in Jerseyville and Hillsboro. He also held bank positions in Hillsboro, Springfield, Rushville and Staunton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Staunton, Moose Lodge and Kiwanis Club in Hillsboro. He refereed basketball in Hillsboro, Jerseyville and other communities. He was born in Iron River, Michigan, a son of August and Clara O. Larson Solander. He married Elise M. Belangee on February 15, 1936, in Litchfield. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Beverly Adell and husband Wally of Sterling, Jerry Franklin and husband Don of Johns Island, S.C.; brother, Martin Solander of Ludington, Mich.; sisters, Viola Swanson, Doris Nelson, both of Northbrook, Jennie Erickson of Iron River, Signe Lindahl of Beechwood, Mich.; six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; four step grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Clarence and Hilmer Solander and a step granddaughter.

Somerfield, Mary E.

Services for Mary E. Somerfield, formerly of Witt, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Sharon Colbert officiating. Burial will be in Witt Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mrs. Somerfield, of Springfield, died at 6 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 60 years old on October 13. She worked for the State of Illinois in the Department of Professional Regulation. She was born in Witt, a daughter of Ernest and Mary Matthews Somerfield. Surviving are a daughter, Lynnett Puckett and husband Donald of Springfield and a son, James Somerfield and wife Autumn of Riverton, Wyo; sisters, Gloria Reynolds, Annabell Davis, both of Witt; brothers, Ernest, Bill and Robert Somerfield of West Frankfort; and five grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Ernest in infancy, Charles, Ben, Richard and Harold; and sisters, Edna Tonellato and Emma Martin.

Somers, Marilyn C.

Services for Marilyn Celeste Somers, formerly of Mt. Olive, were held at 2 p.m. today in Immanuel Lutheran Church there. The Rev. Daniel Barbey officiated. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery or the Lutheran Hour. Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive, was in charge of local arrangements. Mrs. Somers, of Lauderhill, Fla., died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 1999, in Columbia University Hospital, Tamarac, Fla. She was 74 years old on February 1. For several years, she lived in Rochester, Mich., and worked for 18 years as a secretary for ITT Automotive in Auburn Hills. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Shelby Township, Mich. She was active in the church working as secretary in the church office, and as a member of the LWML Guild and the new building committee. She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Frank and Martha Luecht Regenhold, attended Immanuel Lutheran grade school there and graduated from Mt. Olive High School in the class of 1943. Surviving are two children, Donn Somers and wife Eileen of Brighton, Mich., Mark Somers and wife Tina of Lauderhill, Fla., and four grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a brother, Roy Regenhold. Services for Marilyn Celeste Somers, formerly of Mt. Olive, were held there at 2 p.m. Monday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel Barbey officiated. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Musical selections were "Beautiful Savior," "Amazing Grace" and "Abide with Me." Soloist was Rosemary Messner, organist was Norma Gehner. Pallbearers were Donn Somers, Mark Somers, Robin Cooke, Bill Scheller, Garnier Grandidier and Jules Hainaut. Mrs. Somers, 74, died Saturday, August 14, in Tamarac, Fla.

Soulsby, Russell

Services for Russell Soulsby, of Mt. Olive, a member of the Route 66 Hall of Fame, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Becker and Son Funeral Home there with the Rev. Matthew Woodcock officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Mt. Olive Academic Foundation. Mr. Soulsby died at 5:38 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 1999, in his home. He was 89 years old on August 11, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was owner of Soulsby's Service and TV Repair in Mt. Olive, along with his sisters, Ola Soulsby and Velma Chilovich. The service station, remaining as it was in the hey-days of Route 66, became a must-see for tourists following the Mother Road. He and the station were inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame in McLean in 1990. The station was closed in November of the following year; it had operated since July 1926. He was reared in Mt. Olive, attending schools there through high school and in the Navy became a radio communications instructor. He was a member of VFW Post 5790, 40&8, Yurkovich - Beck American Legion Post 94, and the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Olive. He enjoyed dancing as a pastime. He was born in Mt. Olive, a son of Henry W. and Anna B. Schmidt. He married Elizabeth F. Burge on August 11, 1935. She died March 17, 1970. Surviving are son, Russell Ronald "Ron" Soulsby and wife Connie Manassas Park, Va., Edward Lee Soulsby of Lakewood, Colo.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson and husband Andrewe of Lewiston, Christopher Soulsby of Denver, Colo., Stacy Soulsby of Manassas Park and one great grandchild, Thomas Lee Soulsby of Denver. Others surviving include a daughter in law, Karen A. Soulsby of Mt. Olive and a companion, Olivia Dobrinich of Staunton. Preceding him in death were an infant son, Ronald Russell Soulsby; son, Donald Russell Soulsby; and sisters, Ola E.H. Soulsby and Velma Chilovich. Following the services a lunch will be served for family and friends in the Methodist Church Hall by the women of the church. Services for Russell Edward Soulsby, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 this morning in Becker and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Matthew Woodcock officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Litchfield. Pallbearers were Rex Burge, Tom O'Connor, Mel West, Wayne Harshaw, Jay Tritelli and Drewe Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Vernon Bruch, Anton Fassero and Frank Schwab. At graveside the flag was folded by Dan Mancini and Michael Kasarda, and presented by Kasarda to the son, Edward Soulsby. Following the services a lunch was served for family and friends in the Methodist Church Hall by the women of the church. Mr. Soulsby, 89, died Saturday, October 30, in his home.

Southard, Mable Olive

Graveside service for Mable Olive Southard, of Staunton, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Plummer Funeral Home. Mrs. Southard, formerly of South Roxana, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, February 15, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. She was 96 years old on December 27. She was born in Madison County near Edwardsville, a daughter of John and Emma O'Neil. She married Leonard Southard on May 12, 1928. He died in January 1987. Surviving are two grandchildren, Steven Titsworth and wife Judy of Holmes Beach, Fla., Timothy Titsworth and wife Kelly of Litchfield, and seven great grandchildren. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice L. Titsworth; brothers, Jesse, Theodore and Charlie O'Neil and sisters, Clara Hessel and Mary. Graveside service for Mabel Olive Southard, formerly of South Roxana, were held at 10 a.m. today in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Rev. Charles Schwaab, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Hartford, officiated. Pallbearers were Chad Titsworth, Josh Titsworth, Steve Titsworth and Tim Titsworth. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Southard, 96, died Monday, February 15, in Heritage Manor of Staunton.

Services for Gertrude Southwick, of Hillsboro, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bass Funeral Home there with the Rev. Harry Meyer, pastor of the First Christian Church of Hillsboro, officiating. Committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Cemetery at Flora. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Hillsboro Health Care Center of the National Kidney Foundation. Mrs. Southwick died Saturday, July 25, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 79 years old. She had a 30 year career as an employee of the federal government, retiring in 1973 as a general supply officer with the Army Directorate of Material Management. She resided in Granite City for many years, but moved back to Hillsboro in 1975. She spent her youth in Hillsboro, having graduated from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1936. She was a charter member of the Hillsboro Lioness Club, grand marshal of the Hillsboro Old Settlers parade in 1992, active volunteer in the Hillsboro Hospital Extended Care facility and the Hillsboro Health Care Center. She was born in Warrick County, Indiana, a daughter of Homer and A. Theodora Barclay Johnson. She married Harold Southwick on January 16, 1946, in East St. Louis. He died in 1958. Surviving are brothers, Harold Johnston and wife Nancy of Kansas City, Mo., John Johnston and wife Patricia of San Diego, Calif. Preceding her in death were two sisters, Clarice Johnston and Mary Helen Botkin.

Spears, Clyde

Funeral arrangements for Clyde Spears, of Litchfield, are incomplete at Meinschein Funeral Home. Mr. Spears, 74, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, March 14, in the Litchfield HealthCare Center. Services for Clyde Spears, of Litchfield, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Meinschein Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Revisky officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from noon until the time of service. Mr. Spears died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999, in Litchfield HealthCareCenter. He was 74 years old on January 3. He built and repaired furniture and clocks. He also was an artist and drew many pictures. Before moving to Litchfield, he resided in Decatur for many years. He was born in Divernon Township of Sangamon County, a son of Malden D. and Mary Ann Brewer Spears, and never married. Surviving are a brother, George Spears of Catotaga Lake, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were sisters, Besse Releford, Clara Long, Hazel Plunkett and a half sister, May Pulley. Services for Clyde Spears, of Litchfield, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Meinschein Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Revisky of The Christian Church of Litchfield officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Irene Graden, organist, accompanied vocalist Shirley Edwards. Pallbearers were Byril Goodwin, Jeremy Spears, Randy Spears, Gary Spears, Bob Scheaffer and Larry Zeiters. Mr. Spears, 74, died Sunday, March 14, in Litchfield HealthCare Center.

Spears, Elbert Keith

Services for Elbert Keith Spears, of Fillmore, were held this morning in Miller Funeral Home there. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Mr. Spears died at 6:50 p.m. Friday, August 7, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 85 years old on March 12. He was born in Fayette County, a son of Fred and Sarah Davis Spears. He married Gladys M. Brown in 1932 in Montgomery County. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Carl Spears and wife Darline of Hillsboro; daughter, Janet Blankenship and husband Roger of Nokomis; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Preceding him in death were brothers, Ralph, Jesse, Kenneth and Winand Spears.

Speed, Archibold Lee

Services for Archibold Lee Speed, formerly of Gillespie, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Thurman, Iowa, Cemetery with military rites conducted by Rommel Conklin VFW Post 7064 of Tabor, Iowa. The Rev. Darrell Hopp of the Bartlett, Iowa, Community Church officiated. Crawford Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Speed died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, in Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg, Iowa. He was 79 years old on October 23, and an Army veteran of World War II. He lived in Gary, Indiana, for many years and was a sanitation engineer until he retired. After that he spent time in both Iowa and Indiana, to be near his daughters. He recently returned to Iowa and resided in Shenandoah. He enjoyed fishing and spending time talking with friends. He was born near Gillespie, a son of Archibold Lee and Margaret Lettle Speed. Surviving are daughters, Della Collins and husband Bill of Dragoon, Ariz., Frances Jensen and husband Ed of Thurman, Iowa, Alice Dornhecker and husband Bob of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Lee Speed and wife Marilyn of St. Charles, Mo.; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Speiser, John W.

Services for John W. Speiser, of Witt, will be held at 10 a.m. SAturday in Stiehl - Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis, with the Rev. Father Pat Jakel and Pastor Jay Martin officiating. Burial will be in Witt Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mr. Speiser died Thursday, July 22, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 76 years old on January 27, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was farmer, member of the Witt Presbyterian Church and the American Legion. He was born in Witt, a son of Phil and Florence Martin Speiser. He married Ruth Hines on June 8, 1946. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Ruth Ann Harston and husband James of Springfield; son, John P. Speiser and wife Connie of Witt; brother, Paul Speiser of Eagle River, Wis.; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding him in death was a sister, Wilma in childhood.

Spengeman, Blanche I.

Services for Blanche I. Spengeman, of Panama, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Perfetti Funeral Home there with the Rev. Linda Peyla officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Shriners or the Heart Fund. Mrs. Spengeman died at 5:24 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 84 years old on August 7. She resided in the Panama and Sorento area her entire life. She was born in Sorento, a daughter of Jesse and Belle Reed Hastings. Both her first husband, Lloyd Saathoff, and her second husband, Harold Spengeman, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Dan Saathoff of Panama; daughters, Gail Hancock, Jeanette McGill, Brenda Kimbro, all of Panama, Vina Houchlei of Sorento; sisters, Mary Worrell, Dolores Cruthis, both of Sorento; 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchidlren and one great great grandchild.

Spensberger, Nancy A

Funeral Mass for Nancy Alice Neal Spensberger, of Mt. Olive, will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Trinity Church there by the Rev. Father Ted Schelich, chaplain of St. Francis Hospital. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home from 9 until 10:45 a.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Holy Trinity Cemetery Association or the Mt. Olive Ambulance Service. Mrs. Spensberger died at 1:39 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 93 years old on February 12. She worked as a hotel clerk and in restaurants, including the 66 Terminal, before she retired. She was a member of several card clubs and the Mt. Olive Senior Citizens. She was born in Green ville. She married Paul Joseph Spensberger on October 14, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kansas; he died June 2, 1961. Surviving are a son, Paul Spensberger and wife Judy of Mt. Olive and grandchildren, Paul and David Spensberger. Preceding her in death were brothers, Jim Neal, Alphie Neal and one other, and a sister, Ruth Perfetti. Services for Nancy Alice Spensberger, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church there. The Rev. Father Ted Schelich, chaplain at St. Francis Hospital, officiated. Altar servers were Daniel Dragovich and Anthony Obernuefemann. The Holy Trinity choir was accompanied by organist Amy Dragovich. Pallbearers were her son Paul Spensberger, grandson David Spensberger along with Casey Sobberi, Bruce Fenton, Charles Yancik, Ted Tomaso. Mrs. Spensberger, 93, died Sunday, April 4, in Hillsboro Hospital. Her full obituary was in Monday's paper and at theat time her parents' names were unknown; she was a daughter of Alpha L. and Mary Jane Fisher Neal.
