Surgis, Emily Ruth

Services for Emily Ruth Surgis, the infant daughter of Walter and Cynthia Surgis of Springfield, were held at 1 p.m. today in St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Marine. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Green ville. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Ronald McDonald House or the Cherubs organization. The baby died Wednesday, December 23, 1998, in Children's Hospital, St. Louis. She was born December 3, in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis. Surviving besides her parents are maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Voyles of Marine; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Surgis of Litchfield, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Perkinton of Springfield; maternal great grandparents, Art Abert of Green ville, Wilma Voyles of Sorento; and paternal great grandmother, Lila Jones of Springfield. Schildknecht and Young Funeral Home, Green ville, was in charge of arrangements.

Sutton, Ruth

Services for Ruth Sutton, mother of Geneva Blankenship of Hillsboro, were theld this morning in Centralia. Burial was in Zion Hill Cemetery there. Mrs. Sutton, of Vandalia, died at 12:24 a.m. Friday, September 25, 1998, in Utlaut memorial Hospital, Green ville. She was 90 years old on October 6. She was born in Lakewood, a daughter of John William and Bessie Askins Phillips. Her first husband, Morris Glen Smith, whom she married in 1931 in Cowden, preceded her in death. She married C.A. Sutton in 1993, and he died in October 1994. Surviving besides her daughter, Mrs. George Blankenship, are sons, Carol Smith of rural Salem, Robert Smith of Georgetown, Ky.; brother, Nelson Phillips of Bethalto; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. A sister, Roberta Kemper, preceded her in death.

Svetlik, Thomas, Sr.

Services for Thomas Svetlik, Sr., of rural Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Trinity Church there with the Rev. Father Larry Anschutz officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Mt. Olive Ambulance Service or the Gillespie İ Benld Ambulance Service. Mr. Svetlik died at 2:53 this morning, Friday, July 31, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 88 years old on October 29. He formerly owned the Moonlight Inn on Old Route 66 in Mt. Olive. He retired as a brake grinder at Wagoner Electric in St. Louis. He a member of the Holy Trinity Church, Croatian Federation Union Lodge of White City and the Sportsman's Club, also in White City. He was born in Livingston, a son of Thomas and Rosalie Smahay Svetlik. He married Anna Yobak on April 20, 1940, in Detroit Michigan. She died November 4, 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Vadalabene of Sawyerville; sons, Edward Svetlik of Walshville, Thomas Svetlik of Mt. Olive; brothers, George and Joseph Svetlik, both of Mt. Olive; six grandchildren, Robert Badstebner of Springfield, Anthony Badstebner of Benld, Rose Ann Hapner of Hillsboro, Christina Thompson of Benld, Diana Clark of Benld, Tricia Durbin of Litchfield; and seven great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a brother, John Svetlik and sisters, Rose Bodner and Anna Henbenstreit. Following the services Monday a luncheon will be provided for family and friends at the church by the women of the church. Services for Thomas Svetlik, Sr., of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 this morning in Holy Trinity Church there. The Rev. Father Larry Anschutz officiated. Altar servers were Ryan Obernuefemann, Mt Boston and Anthony Obernuefemann. The church choir sang, accompanied by organist Ruth Zubal. Pallbearers were Bobby Badstebner, Jr., Ken Osmoe, Tony Badstebner, Kevin Hapner, Vick Vuckovich, Frank Brabek, Paul Vuckovich and Dan Millick. Burial was in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Becker and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Following the services a lunch was served at the church by the women of the church. Swetlik, George Paul

Funeral Mass for George Paul Swetlik, of Mt. Olive, will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Church there by the Rev. Fathers Larry Anschutz and Ted Schelich. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Rosary will be said at 8 p.m., led by Father Schelich. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Holy Trinity Cemetery or the Mt. Olive Park Board. Mr. Swetlik died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. He was 87 years old on March 1. He was a machine operator for Olin Manufacturing in Alton until he retired. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church and the Mt. Olive Senior Citizens. He was born in Taylor Springs, a son of Thomas and Rosa Smahay Svetlik, and attended St. Michael's Catholic School in Staunton. He married Catherine Young on January 19, 1946, in Gillespie. She died June 10, 1987. Surviving are daughters, Peggy Osmoe and husband Ken of Mt. Olive, Bonnie Ulrich of Northglenn, Colo.; a brother, Joseph Swetlik of Mt. Olive; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, John and Thomas Svetlik and sisters, Anna Hebenstreit and Rose Bodner. Following the services Saturday a lunch will be served to family and friends in the Holy Trinity basement by the women of the church. Services for George Paul Swetlik, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church there. The Rev. Fathers Larry Anchutz and Ted Schelich officiated with Mat Boston and Sean Logsdon as altar servers. Burial was in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Ruth Zubal was the organist. She accompanied the Holy Trinity choir. Pallbearers were grandsons Toby Osmoe, Jeff Osmoe, Jason Ulrich, and nephews, Jim Swetlik, Bill Vadalabene and Leroy Lentz. Following the service a lunch was provided for family and friends in the Holy Trinity basement by the women of the church. Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive, was in charge of arrangements. Switzer, Virginia M.

Virginia Miller Switzer, formerly of Hillsboro, died November 21, 1999, in her home in Vienna, Va. She was 85 years old on August 28. She was a teacher and school administrator, beginning her career in 1941. She retired in 1978 from the Fairfax, Va., High School where she taught English and was the guidance director. She enjoyed traveling and had journeyed to all seven continents. She voyaged down the Amazon river, hot air ballooned in Kenya, hiked portions of the Great Wall of China, explored glaciers in New Zealand, made overland trips to Alaska, Mexico and the Yucatan. At age 78, she visited Antarctica. This past summer, she returned to Hillsboro to join her classmates for their 67th year reunion on August 21. She active in many organizations. She held a bachelor's degree in English and moderan languages form the University of Illinois and a master's degree in library science. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of Melville L. and Nellie Poland Miller, and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1932. She married W. Homer Switzer in 1940. Her husband, a career Army officer who retired with the rank of colonel, survives along with a son, Ret. Army Col. Dr. Warren Switzer and wife Young sun of Springfield, Va.; daughter, Kathrine Switzer and husband Roger of New York City and New Zealand; and two grandchildren, Wayne and Anne Switzer of Springfield, Va. Services were held in Virginia with burial in the Arlington National Cemetery.

Swofford, Charlotte

Charlotte Swofford, sister of Jeannann Donaldson of Fillmore, died Tuesday, December 1, 1998, in Vandalia. A resident of Vandalia, she was 62 years old. Surviving also are her husband, Donald E. Swofford, a son and two daughters and eight other sisters along with five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were held Friday in Vandalia with burial in Fairlawn Cemetery there.

Talbert, James L.

James L. Talbert, of Benld, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. He was 69 years old on March 4, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a security officer with a detective agency before he retired. He was born in Chillicothe, a son of Louis and Hattie Talbert. He married Lucille Moore on November 24, 1965. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Malissa Talbert of Gillespie; step sons, Owlen and Henry Gipson of Missouri; brother, Jesse Talbert of Peoria; sisters, Marge Gunn and Lucille Conn, also of Peoria. The remains were cremated and private family services were held. Kravanya Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Tannette, Mary K.

Funeral Mass for Mary Katherine Tannette, formerly of Benld, will be said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Jerome's Catholic Church, Troy, by the Rev. Father Steven Janoske. burial will be in Benld City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday in the church at 107 Wayland avenue, Troy. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Jerome's Quilters in Troy or to St. Joseph's Altar Society in Benld. Kravanya Funeral Home, Benld, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Tannette, of Troy, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in her home. She was 95 years old on August 30. She worked as a seamstress before she retired and was a member of the United Garment Workers. She was also a member of St. Ann's Council of Catholic Women and a former member of St. Joseph's Altar Society. She was born in Spring Valley, a daughter of Peter and Antonia Davito Corgiat. Her husband, Frank Tannette, died December 21, 1968. Surviving are a daughter, Marilucille Bednar and husband John of Troy; four grandchildren, Susan Horton of Wichita Falls, Texas, Amy Claxton of Benton, Leslie Bednar of Tuscola, Tim Bednar of Edwardsville; and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in deth were a brother, Emil "Mills" Corgiat and a grandson, John Bednar.

Tarter, Aurora Lynn

Private family service for Aurora Lynn Tarter, the infant daughter of Lora Tarter of Litchfield and Samuel Clark of Eldorado, will be held at graveside in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Honey Bend, at 4 p.m. Friday. Brother Ed Diveley, pastor of Southside Church, will officiate. Plummer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. The baby died at birth at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 1998, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. Surviving besides her parents are maternal grandparents, Jim and Becky Tarter and great grandparents, Floyd and Dorothy Tarter and Mary Wey, all of Litchfield; paternal grandparents, Bernard and Sue Clark and great grandfather, Henry Criner, all of Eldorado. Preceding her in death were an infant brother, Tyler James TarterİClark; maternal great grandfather, Frank Wey, and paternal great grandparents, John and Bertha Clark and Alvina Criner.

Taylor, Alice M.

Services for Alice M. Taylor, of Sawyerville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Benld, with the Rev. Nelson Reiber officiating. Burial will be in Benld City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. Mrs. Taylor died at 12:27 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 1998, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. She was 92 years old on August 3. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Benld. She was born in Minnesota, a daughter of John and Frances Frazer Douglass. She married James Taylor on December 24, 1923, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He died July 26, 1971. Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Spurney of Sawyerville; grandchildren, Lynn Fraelle of Benld, James Bray of Belleville; and a great grandson, David Spurney of Mt. Olive. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Ava Bray; brothers, John, Richard, Lester, Archie, Robert and William Douglass; a sister in infancy; and a grandson, David Spurney.

Taylor, Charlotte A.

Services for Charlotte Ann Haines Taylor, of Irving, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in McCracken Funeral Home, Pana, with the Rev. Lawrence Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Price Cemetery at Oconee. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Heart Association. Mrs. Taylor was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m. Monday, March 29, 1999, at the scene of an one-car automobile accident near Ohlman. She was 62 years old on October 12. She was born in Pana, a daughter of Jack and Bessie Harlow Allen. Her first marriage, to Muryl Haines, ended in divorce; he resides in Indianapolis, Ind. On June 23, 1994, in Hillsboro, she married Timmy Taylor. He survives. Surviving also are her children, Cathy Bilyeu and husband Stanley, Herb Haines and wife Tonda, Mark and Kevin Haines, Donny Haines and wife Penny, all of Pana, Tim and Tami Haines of Indianapolis, Susan Britz of Springfield, Phillip Haines and wife Merle of Kansas, Ill., Muryl Haines Jr. and wife Shirley of Irving; a step son, Keith Taylor of Brownstown; brothers, Floyd Allen of Dexter, Mo., Albert Lee Allen of Odin, Charles Allen of Taylorville; sisters, Alda "Tootie" Jarrett of Tennessee, Norma Akins and Velma Bland Kelmel, both of Pana; 34 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were sisters, Helen Bland, Alberta "Bertie" Jenkins, Viola Moneyhun; and three grandchildren.

Taylor, Darrell C.

Darrell C. Taylor, father of Marie Stewart of Hillsboro, died February 6, 1999, in Riverview, Fla. He was 86 years old. Surviving are four other children, Connie of Riverview, Loren, Orville and Clayton, all of Fort Worth, Texas. Another daughter, Ruth Majors of Fort Worth, preceded him in death. Services were held in Florida.

Taylor, George J.

Funeral Mass for George Joseph Taylor, of Litchfield, will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church by the Rev. Father David Schmidt. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Francis Hospital Home Health Services. Mr. Taylor died at 8:10 this morning, Thursday, December 23, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 75 years old on January 28, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the Illinois State Police in 1988 as a communciations equipment technician supervisor. He started his career with the state police in 1961 as a radio operator in District 9 - Springfield. In 1969, he transferred to the Litchfield subpost, 11A. He earned his "ham" radio license in 1941 and during his military service he specialized in naval aviation radio and was also a radar man. He earned the rank of lieutenant. He graduated from Litchfield High School in the class of 1942. Besides his being a licensed ham radio operator, he was a member of the Society of Wireless Pioneers, U.S. Navy Reserves, American Legion Post 436 and Holy Family Catholic Church. He was born in Litchfield, a son of George W. and Helena Langheim Taylor. He married Mary Dolores Smith on November 28, 1946, in SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Gillespie. She survives. Surviving also are nine sons, Joe Taylor and wife Jane of Litchfield, John Taylor and wife Patricia of Shobonier, Tom Taylor and wife Sue of Newton, Marty Taylor and wife Marilyn of Gillespie, Louis Taylor and wife Candie of Litchfield, Jim Taylor and wife Carla of St. Peter, Ill., Anthony Taylor and wife Karen of Hennepin, George Taylor and wife Amy of Eagarville, Michael Taylor and wife Angela of Mt. Olive; five daughters, Mary Ann Hagerman of Mt. Olive, Joan Kelly and husband Charles of Litchfield, Loretta Neilson of Litchfield, Dolores Marley and husband Gerald of Girard, Virginia Hartke and husband David of Litchfield; brothers, John F. Taylor and wife Janice of Brunswick, Maine, Robert L. Taylor and wife Helen of Bethel, Minn.; sisters, Marjorie Jensen of Riviera Beach, Fla., Ruth Penticoff of Litchfield; 50 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. PReceding him in death were a brother, William Taylor and a grandson, James Taylor. Funeral Mass for George Joseph Taylor, of Litchfield, was said at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church by the Rev. Father David Schmidt. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Kathy Skinner was the organist and Polly Wand, the cantor. Special music was provided by Jennifer and Cari Hagerman. Congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "Here I Am Lord." Placing the pall were Chuck Kelly and Jim Taylor. Renee Kelly and Mary Jo Weeks were the readers. Connie, Michelle, Sara Taylor and Erica Hagerman were gift bearers. Marty Taylor, Pat Russell and Fidelis Biebel served as ministers of Eucharist. Pallbearers were Blain Neilson, Joshua Taylor, Leighton Taylor, Mark J. Taylor, Mark V. Taylor and Paul Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Clark Marley, Brandon Taylor, James A. Taylor and Michael Taylor. Full military rites were conducted at graveside. Representing American Legion Post 436 were Will Tackaberry, Bill Bates, Jess Yellowley and David Allen. Representing VFW Post 3912 were Larry Heisman, V.C. Chasteen, Joe Wilson and Jim Benton. Will Tackaberry presented the flag to Mrs. Taylor. Kaci Becker played "Taps." Following the committal service, a meal was provided for the family and friends by the women of the church. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Taylor, 75, died Thursday, December 23, in St. Francis Hospital.

Taylor, Marie

Services for Marie Taylor, of Green ville, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Myron Kirk, pastor of Grace Fellowship Church, Fillmore officiating. Burial will be in Maxey Cemetery at Smithboro. Friends may call on Wednesday in the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Taylor died at 2:40 p.m. Monday, September 27, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She ws 66 years old on February 16. She had resided in Green ville since 1972 and before that lived in St. Louis. She attended schools in West Frankfort, graduating from high school there in 1950. She was born in West Frankfort, a daughter of Charles and Rose Crim Taylor. She married Robert H. Taylor on April 29, 1950, in West Frankfort. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Robert Taylor of Taylor Springs, Johnny Ray Taylor, Danny Lee Taylor and wife Vicky, Ronald Taylor and wife Patricia, Michael Taylor and wife Kris, David Taylor and wife Judy, all of Hillsboro, Victor Taylor of Taylor Springs; a daughter, Judy Bone and husband Robert of Green ville; brothers, Jack Taylor of West Frankfort, Herbert Taylor of Green ville; a sister, Marilyn Dryer of St. Louis; 25 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Jimmy Taylor in 1997 and brothers, Tom and John Taylor.

Tebbe, Dennis Richard

Memorial service for Dennis Richard Tebbe, formerly of the local area, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, with the Rev. Father Dean Probst officiating. Inurnment will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Mr. Tebbe died Friday, July 17, 1998, in his home in Cape Fair, Mo. He was 58 years old on February 26. He was a plant engineer for the Zenith Corporation before he retired, and served with the Navy from 1960 to 1972. He was born in Trenton, a son of Joseph and Regina Steinmann Tebbe. Surviving are his mother, Regina Tebbe of Carlinville; brothers, Ralph A. Tebbe of Sawyerville, Donald J. Tebbe of Monticello, Md.; sisters, Lorraine Hines of Girard, Mary Lou Stoops of Shipman.

Telford, Marybell E.

Marybell Elaine Telford, mother of Leta Smith of Coffeen, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, in Edward A. Utlaut Memorial Hospital, Green ville. She was 72 years old. Surviving also are two other daughters, Michelle Massey of Clinton and Patrice Hoffman of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers, R.D. "Dick" Stombaugh of Springfield, Harry and Larry Stombaugh of Silvis; a grandchild and a great grandchild. Services were held this morning in Hohlt and File Funeral Home, Vandalia, with burial in Fairlawn Cemetery there.

Temple, Lyle M.

Services for Lyle M. Temple, of rural Hillsboro, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Irwin Chapel at Granite City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Glen Carbon. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel at 8960 Maryville road. An Eagles service will be held during the visitation. The family suggests memorials be directed to the St. Francis Hospital Hospice Service. Mr. Tempel died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 63 years old on November 12, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a carpenter for the Granite City school district for 20 years before he retired in 1992. He was a member of Carpenters Local 633, Taylor Springs VFW Post 1306, and a 45 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1126 in Granite City. He was born in Champaign, a son of Charles and Mary Pankau Tempel. He married Margaret Roseman on February 14, 1959. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Lyle Tempel Jr. of Chesapeake, Va., Kevin Tempel of Aiken, S.C., Barry Tempel of Lexington, Ill.; brother, Maurice Tempel of Champaign; sisters, Helen Emert of Fairfield Bay, Ark., Marjorie Stallings of Ocala, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother in law, William Roseman Jr. of Waterloo; sisters in law, Irma Rippelmeyer, Wanda Horn, both of Waterloo, Shirley Rippelmeyer of New Athens.

Services for Marguerite L. Terneus, of Hillsboro, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Agnes Catholic Church there with the Rev. Father Chris Comerford, of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Springfield, officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Patton Memorial Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Masses or Alzheimer Disease. Mrs. Terneus died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 88 years old on April 22. She had resided in Hillsboro since 1941, having moved there from Decatur. She was a member of St. Agnes Church in Hillsboro and the Council of Catholic Women. She was born in Decatur, a daughter of Charles and Clara Regelman Gallagher. She married Vernon L. Terneus, Sr., on September 2, 1929. He died May 5, 1970. Surviving are sons, Vernon L. Terneus, Jr., and wife Marie Helen, John C. Terneus and wife Mary, Larry J. Terneus and wife Barbara, all of Hillsboro, Thomas G. Terneus and wife Carole of Chesterfield, Mo.; daughters, Dorothy Gunn and husband Merlyn of Hillsboro, Mickie Gaither and husband Mike of Hillsboro; sisters, Dorothy Comerford of Decatur, Mary Cooley of Summerville; 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Ed and Gilbert Gallagher and sister, Florence Reichert.

Tester, Glenn

Private graveside service for Glenn Tester, of Nokomis, will be held Friday in Mt. Zion Cemetery there. The Rev. Dale Best will officiate. Mr. Tester died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 1998, in Golden Manor Nursing Home, Nokomis. He was 92 years old on July 2. He was a farmer and a lifeİlong resident of the Nokomis area. He was a member of the Ohlman Methodist Church. He was born in Montgomery County, a son of Frank A. and Anna Johnson Tester. He married Mary Fricke on January 30, 1927. She survives. Surviving also are two children, James Tester and wife Delores and Tony Stauder and husband Marion, all of Nokomis; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Claudine Covelli in July 1989 and two brothers, Earl and Ed Tester.

Teubner, Eunice

Services for Eunice Teubner, formerly of Harvel, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hough Funeral Home, Raymond, with the Rev. Kenneth Tegtmeier officiating. Burial will be in Harvel City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Harvel Gym. Mrs. Teubner died at 12:01 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Springfield. She was 83 years old on May 8. She was a bookkeeper for Tiskos Furniture for 11 years. She was a 1935 graduate of Harvel High School and a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Harvel. She was born in Dewitt, Ark., a daughter of Jonas and Anna Westhoff Davis. She married Carl Teubner on December 1, 1962, in Springfield. They had no children. He survives. She was the last of her family. Two nieces and a nephew survive. Preceding her in death was a brother, Leroy Davis in 1969.

Thacker, Agnes Lorraine

Services for Agnes Lorraine Thacker, of Litchfield, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Mallicoat, of Jacksonville, officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Alzheimer Disease and Other Related Disorders or to the First Baptist Church Building Fund. Mrs. Thacker died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, November 9, 1998, in Lakeside Manor, Carlinville. She was 80 years old on July 17. She was employed as a cashier at Litchfield Kroger's for 27 years before retiring in 1978. She also worked for the P.N. Hirsch Company in Litchfield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield and the Fidelitas Class there, a member of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and the Thursday Morning women's bowling league. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Ralph and Ethel Striplin Pruitt. She married Len Bennett Thacker, Sr., on August 22, 1936, in Litchfield. He died July 3, 1983. Surviving are a son, Len B. Thacker, Jr., and wife Sandy of Carlinville; daughters, Patsy J. Sturgeon and husband Kent of LaMesa, Ariz., Shirley Zenner and husband Gary of Litchfield; sister, Virginia Stockstill of Low Point; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a granddaughter, Diane Marie Zenner. Services for Agnes Lorraine Thacker, of LItchfield, were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Mallicoat, of Jacksonville, officiated. Burial was in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Musical selections played during the service were "Beyond the Sunset" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer." Pallbearers were grandsons, Steve Lowe, Donald Sturgeon, Len Thacker III, Gary Zenner Jr., Kurt Zenner and a nephew, Richard Thacker. Following the services a meal was provided for the family and friends by the women of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Thacker, 80, died Monday, November 9, in Lakeside Manor of Carlinville.

Thacker, Albert Allen

Services for Albert Allen Thacker, of Coffeen, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, in rural Coffeen, wtih the Rev. Wayne Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in rural Coffeen. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Toberman Funeral Home, Coffeen. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Mt. Moriah Church or to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Thacker died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 1998, in his home. He was 67 years old on October 11. He worked as a construction laborer out of Laborers Local 1084, Hillsboro, before he retired in 1991. Before that he worked in the coal mines and at Nevinger Electric and Air Conditioning, Green ville. He was a graduate of Coffeen High School. He was born in Coffeen, a son of Oscar A. and Fairy Snow Thacker. He married Darlene Davis on may 23, 1950, in Coffeen. She died May 20, 1986. Surviving are sons, Jimmy Thacker of Green ville, Jerry Thacker of Coffeen; daughters, Janice Thacker of Mulberry Grove, Juliann Elam and husband Derek of Smithboro; a sister, Donna Traylor and husband Don of Coffeen; six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Thacker, Hazel A.

Services for Hazel Alberta Thacker, of Litchfield, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Allen of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Memory Gardens, Mayfield, Ky. Friends may call on Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Thacker died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 88 years old on August 9. She was an elementary school teacher, having taught at both J.D. Colt and Madison Park in the Litchfield school district before she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield, Litchfield Woman's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Montgomery County Retired Teachers. She was a graduate of the Farmington, Ky., High School and earned a bachelors degree in Elementary Education at McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill. She was born in Farmington, Ky., a daughter of Charles H. and Duma Phillips Moore. She married Albert McNatt Thacker on November 1, 1935, in Dresden, Tenn. He died April 13, 1964. Surviving are a son, Charles A. Thacker and wife Ann of Towson Md.; daughter, Judy Rupert and husband James of Nokomis; and four grandchildren, Monica Hinds, Christina Thacker, David Rupert and Andrea Rupert. Preceding her in death were brothers, John A. and Charles W. Moore and a sister, Martha Holloway. Services for Hazel Alberta Thacker, of Litchfield, were held at 10:30 Saturday morning in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Allen of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield officiated. Musical selections were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "It Is Well with My Soul." Pallbearers were Jim Fiore, Phil Holloway, David Rupert, Gary Rupert, James Rupert and Charles Thacker. Burial was in Mayfield Memory Gardens, Mayfield, Ky., with the Rev. Phil Bradley of Mayfield, officiating the committal service. Mrs. Thacker, 88, died Thursday, November 11, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield.

Thacker, Oscar A.

Services for Oscar A. Thacker, of Coffeen, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church there with the Rev. Tim Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in rural Coffeen. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Toberman Funeral Home. the family suggests memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church of Coffeen. Mr. Thacker died Monday, September 7, 1998, in Hillsboro Health Care Center. He was 92 years old on August 20. He was a coal miner, farmer and construction worker before he retired. He was also a long time Sunday School teacher at the Coffeen United Methodist Church. He was born in Coffeen, a son of Dennis and Mae Whitlock Thacker. He married Fairy Snow on June 26, 1926, in Terre Haute, Ind. She died January 31, 1983. Surviving are a son, Albert Thacker of Coffeen; daughter, Donna Traylor and husband Don of Coffeen; brother, Harold Thacker of Coffeen; sister, Berniece Bost of Fillmore; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Preceding him in death were brothers, Albert and Nile Thacker and sisters, Nina Cline and Evelyn Chumley.

Thiessen, Martin W.

Martin W. Thiessen, formerly of Mt. Olive, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, in St. John's Hospice. He was 79 years old on May 2, and an Army veteran of World War II having served in the invasion of Normandy. He was a time manager with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis for many years, and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, VFW and the American Legion, all of Carlinville. He was born in Mt. Olive, a son of William and Laura Pothauff Thiessen. He married Thelma Metzler in 1941 in Centralia. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Phillip Thiessen of Boston, Mass.; daughter, Arrilda Fullington of Carlinville; sisters, Lena Medro of Leesburg, Fla., Edna Sagal of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and two grandsons. Heinz Funeral Home, Carlinville, is in charge of funeral arrangements. Services will be held at 1 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Mayfield Memorial ParkCemetery.
