Scroggins Acord of Brighton, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 1999, in Children's Hospital, St. Louis, two days after his birth on September 14. Surviving besides his parents are grandparents, Howard and Elda Acord of Foster burg, Michael and Linda Scroggins of Troy; great grandparents, Virginia Bauer of Coffeen, Homer and Eileen Burk of East Alton, Kenneth and Margary Bryan of Wood River; great grand grandmother, Lola Katonah of Wood River. Services were held in Rosewood Heights.
Adams, Jerry W.
Jerry W. Adams, formerly of Litchfield, died February 27, 1999, in his home in Farmington, Mo., after a lengthy illness. He was 55 years old last April 26. He worked in the construction industry and was a Navy veteran. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Wilbert and Louise Curto Adams. He married Carolyn Raby on May 17, 1962, in San Diego, Calif. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Michael Adams of Doe Run, Mo., Brian and Mark Adams, both of Lead Wood, Mo.; brothers, Gary Adams of Edinburg, Randy Adams of Springfield; and five grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Jimmy and a grandchild. Services were held March 2 in Farmington with burial in the Doe Run Memorial Cemetery.

Services for Norman Dean Adams, father of Karen Carlile of Litchfield, were held at 10:30 this morning in Davis Anderson Funeral Home, Girard. The Rev. Steve Taylor officiated. Burial was in Girard Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the Ronald McDonald House. Mr. Adams, of Carlinville, died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, November 26, 1998, in Sunshine Manor there. He was 64 years old on March 22. He worked at Thermal factory in Girard for 23 years before retiring October 9, 1993, and was a member of the House of Prayer in Girard. He was born in Carlinville, a son of George and Elizabeth Ruth Quick Adams. He married Eunice Schott Sutton on February 15, 1991. She survives. Surviving also are sons, William Adams, Daniel Adams, both of Corinth, Miss., Randall Adams of Myakka City, Fla.; another daughter, Kathy Vanhouten of Palmyra; step sons, Robert Sutton of Lockport, Ron Sutton of Highland; step daughters, Beverly Talbert of Girard, Bonnie Long of Springfield; brothers, Robert Adams of Virden, George Adams of Girard, Roy Adams of Littleton, Colo.; sister, Elizabeth Nagel of Girard; 14 grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren, one great grandchild and five step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Melinda Adams in 1955 and a step grandson earlier this year.

Memorial service for Frank (Jeff) Aghetta, of Wilsonville, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, with the Rev. Father Robert Porter officiating. The remains were donated to Washington University, St. Louis. Mr. Aghetta died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 1998, in his home. He was 84 years old on December 30, and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a barber for many years. He was born in Seatonville, a son of Charles and Victoria Erio Aghetta. His wife, the former Helen L. Lacy, died August 31, 1987. Surviving are daughters, Toni Hall of Scottsdale, Ariz., Viki Aghetta of East Alton; a sister, Censia Marston of Brighton; and a grandson, Jeff Hall of Scottsdale. Preceding him in death was a brother, Charles Aghetta.

Graveside service for Gladys Albaugh, of Nokomis and formerly of Sorento, were held at 11 this morning in Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. Elmer Fenton officiated. Mrs. Albaugh died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 93 years old on November 5. She resided in Sorento in her early years then moved to Chicago where she lived for many years. She resided in Nokomis for the past year. She was born in Bingham, a daughter of Edward and Dora Etta Womack Worker. Surviving is a sister, Muriel Abert of Hamel and several nieces and nephews.

He was a clerk at Albertini Dry Cleaners in Staunton until he retired in 1994. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Staunton. He was born in Staunton, a son of Andrew and Mary Rizzi Albertini. Surviving are sisters, Alvera and Eleanor Albertini, both of Staunton. Preceding him in death were a sister, Josephine Johnson and a brother, Robert Albertini.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Zinn of Staunton; a niece, Marian Slazinik of Staunton; nephew, Werner Zinn of Orlando. Preceding her in death was a sister, Christina Albertini.

She married Wilbur Alexander on November 1, 1941, in Gillespie. He survives. Mrs. Allen died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was 72 years old on January 8. She was employed as a seamstress with the Marine Garment Factory in Marine, Ill., for several years. In Litchfield, she was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Tape Ministry. She was also a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. She was born in Dummer, Saskatchewan, Canada, a daughter of Carl Herman and Amanda Mary Page Melchert. She married Edward Raymond Allen on October 19, 1944, in East St. Louis. He died October 31, 1985. Surviving are sons, David C. Allen and wife Anna Marie, Litchfield, Trent Allen of Zachary, La.; a daughter, Joan L. Moore and husband Ernest of Staunton; brother, Carl Melchert and wife Elvira of Mt. Olive; sister, Shirley Isaacs and husband Tom of Litchfield; five grandchildren, Kelly Hagen, Lisa Mathis, Bonnie Haefer, D. Brett Allen, Elizabeth Allen; and seven great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a sister, Carlotta Melchert. Services for Audrey E. Allen, of Litchfield, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Donald Langhoff officiated. Burial was in Elm Lawn Cemetery. During the service organist Marilyn Niehaus accompanied shirley Edwards as she sang "How Great Thour Art." Mrs. Niehaus also accompanied the congregation as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers were D. Brett Allen and Robert D. Allen, both of Litchfield, Thomas Haefer of Highland, Jayson Hagen and Michael Hagen of Benld, and Gregory Mathis of Mt. Olive. Following the commital service a luncheon was provided for family and friends by the Zion Ladies Aid. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Allen, 72, died Saturday, April 10, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.

She was a secretary for the Christian County Mental Health Department and retired as a supervisor with Illinois Bell Telephone. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of William Herman and Alma Ruth Striplin Karrick. Her husband, Leonard Allen, died many years ago. Surviving are sisters, Mary Craig of Taylorville and Eva Stotsky of Cleveland, Ohio.

Pearl "Bud" Allen, Jr., brother of Bob Allen and Helen Bast, both of Gillespie, died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Alton. He was 76 years old. Surviving also are his wife, Bernice; daughters, Cheryl Dodwell of Portage, Ind., Karen Masulla of Hartford; two other brothers, Roy Allen of Girard and Harold Allen of Amarillo, Texas; three other sisters, Patty Tretter of Springfield, Maxine Bloome of Girard and Wanda Helgen of Rosewood Heights; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services were held in Alton with burial in the Upper Alton Cemetery.

He was 82 years old on October 29. He was a truck driver for Rogers Cartage in Lawrenceville before he retired. He also drove for IML Eagle Division of Salt Lake City, Utah. For eight years, he delivered the Alton Telegraph in the north eastern area of Madison County. He resided in Edwardsville until 1986 when he moved to New Douglas. He served as trustee for the Village of New Douglas for a time. He was also a member of the Edward Dobbins AF&AM Lodge, Lawrenceville and the Hillsboro Lodge 196 AF&AM of Hillsboro, Texas. He was born in Lawrenceville, a son of William Washington and Lillie Thomas Allen. He married Bernice Louise Dunstedter on May 25, 1936, in Lawrenceville. She survives. Surviving also are daughters, Barbara Hixon and husband Raymond of Claremont, Beverly Perrin and husband William of Bridgeport, Betsy Blosser and husband Walter of Hillsboro, Texas, Bernice Deckard and husband Robert of St. Francisville, Brenda Kaul of St. Francisville; son, William Allen II of Highland; brothers, Robert Allen and wife Hattie of Lawrenceville, Donald Pugh and wife Lil of Highland, Ind.,; sister, Imogene James and husband Charles of Michigan; 24 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. She worked for the Recreation Department in Springfield and was active in her church, Order of Eastern Star, including serving as Grand Representative in 1990-92, and the VFW auxiliary. She was born in Springfield, a daughter of Merle and Hazel Long, and married Clarence R. Allmon on September 14, 1950. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Clarence R. Mr. Alpe died at 3 a.m. Sunday, May 24, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. He was 87 years old on October 22, and an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a coal miner, truck driver and bartender before he retired. He was a charter member and past commander of VFW Post 4547 and a member of Croatian Lodge 217 of Benld. He was born in Turin Italy, a son of Angelo and Ernesta Favro Alpe, and was never married. Surviving are a sister, Clara Zalapukis and a brother, Edward Alpi, both of Mt. Clare. Others surviving include a niece, Dorris Ann Weber of Whiting, Ind., and nephews, Charles Zalapukis of Lidenhurst, James Alpi of Decatur, Gene Alpi of Gillespie. She was a member of the grace Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid and Fellowship Club of the church. She was born in Spring Point, Township of Cumberland County, a daughter of Martin and Alma Voigt Dahnke. She married Theodore A. Alwardt on June 2, 1940. He survives. Surviving also, besides Steven Alwardt and wife Teresa, are four other sons, Paul Alwardt and wife Christine of Germantown, Tenn., Fredrick Alwardt and wife Martha of Paris, David Alwardt and wife Diane of Elk Mound, Wis., Arlen Alwardt and wife Beverly of Milford; daughters, Jeanette Benner and husband John of Atwood, Marvelle Cole and husband Dean of Arcola; a sister, Vera Alwardt of Strasburg; 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting and dolls. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Walter Fred and Viola Lorraine Plog Ernst. She married Tary P. Anderson on June 10, 1956, in Harvel. He died May 12, 1997. Surviving are sons, Mark E. Anderson of Atwater, Roger L. Anderson and wife Jennifer of Raymond; daughters, Jean Miller and husband Terry of Edwardsville, Barbara Erwin and husband Robert of Shipman; sisters, JoAnn McLaughlin of Carlinville, Norma Ziegler of Naples, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kathryn and Joshua Tary Erwin, and two step grandchildren, Brandy and Bethanie Zenner. He was retired from the State of Illinois and was very active in Republican politics in Sangamon county and Fancy Creek Township. A former professional bowler and an avid golfer, he was very active in both sports in the Springfield area. He was a charter member of the Rail Golf Club. He was born in Nashville, a son of Harry Crawford and Millie Rinne Anderson. His wife, the former Ruth Jefferies, survives. Surviving also are a son, J.C. Anderson and wife Shelly of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Shann Elble and husband Joseph B. of Normal; brothers, John Anderson of Sun City, Fla., Jim Anderson and wife Corrine of Staunton; sister, Mildred Lietz and husband Eno of Staunton; and two grandchildren, J. Mrs. Anderson, of Taylorville, died Monday, September 27, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 70 years old on March 31. She was a bookkeeper. She retired from Standard Oil after 23 years of service. Prior to that she worked for Wareham's Dairy. She was born in Morisonville, a daughter of Charles and Hazel Redman Furray. Her husband, Neal Anderson, died in 1993. Surviving are sons, Joseph Neal Anderson and wife Laurie, Kenneth Ray Anderson and wife Sharon of Lovelock, Nevada; sister, Helen Cumstay of Jackson, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

She was a member of the Daughters of Scotia. She was born in Chicago, a daughter of Charles and Catherine Urbutis Tilashalski. She married Robert C. Anderson on March 31, 1927, in Gillespie. He died September 8, 1999. Surviving is a daughter, Roberta Jean Anderson of Gillespie. Preceding her in death were brothers, Joe Tillas, Clyde Tilashalski and sisters, Ann Smith and Josephine Mayberry.
Anderson, Merill E.(Andy)
Merill E. "Andy" Anderson, formerly of Raymond, died Monday, November 23, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 73 years old last December 8. He was owner and operator of G&H Motor Supply before he retired, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was born in Raymond, a son of Harold E. and Mable A. Martin Anderson. He married Mildred Cearlock on March 14, 1948, in Moweaqua. She survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Linda Spina and husband Tom of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters, Lylis Hickman of Westerville, Ohio, Pat Carter of Decatur, Bette Jo Hamer of Taylorville; and three grandchildren. Services were held Decatur with burial in Graceland Cemetery there.

Services for Nelva E. Anderson, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Meinschein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Michels, retired pastor of St. Timothy's United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Bunker Hill City Cemetery. Miss Anderson died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999, in St. John's Hospital North, Springfield. She was 69 years old on October 18. She worked as a nurse's aide for 20 years at various locations in Carlinville and Litchfield. She moved from Decatur to Litchfield in 1967, and became a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbors. She particularly enjoyed embroidering and made tablecloths for many friends. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of John C. and Marcella Dilliard Anderson, and never married. Surviving are cousins, Loren Cameron of Springfield, Merrill Dees of Decatur, Dan Griffel of Gillespie and aunts, Marie Cameron of Clinton, Helen Morse of Springfield and Gladys Welch of Gillespie. Services for Nelva Erlene Anderson, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Meinschein Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Michels officiated. Burial was in Bunker Hill City Cemetery. Music was played during the service by organist Irene Graden. Pallbearers were Mark Anderson, David Griffel, Robert Cameron, Jay Dees, Francis Duncan, Brian Dees and Loren Cameron. He was a member of the clan MacIntosh. He was born in Hamilton, Scotland, a son of Thomas and Gean Ronald Anderson. He married Kathryn E. Tilashalski; she survives. Surviving also are a daughter, Roberta Jean Anderson of Gillespie; brother, Jim Anderson of Reno, Nevada; a sister, Margaret Stevener of French Village, Mo. Preceding him in death were sisters, Jean Anderson, Mary Peradotto and Nettie Scopel.

Memorial service for Donald H. Andrews, former mayor of Hillsboro, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Bass Funeral Home there with the Rev. He was 79 years old on May 11, and an Army veteran of World War II. He owned and operated the Andrews Insurance Agency in Hillsboro for many years, and was mayor of the city from 1958 to 1962. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge 51 A.F.&A.M., Ansar Shrine, M&M Shrine Club, Springfield Valley Consistory, and the VFW. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Hillsboro. He was born in Green ville, a son of Ernest and Frances Snodgrass Andrews, and graduated from Green ville High School. He married Norma Jean Allen on June 19, 1948, in Green ville. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Michael Andrews and wife Marie of Carson City, Nevada, Patrick Andrews of Williamsburg, Va., and Tom Andrews of Hillsboro; daughter, Mary F. Spudic and husband Mark of Mt. Olive; sister, Mary Lou Duberg of Newport News, Va.; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding him in death were a son, Jerry Andrews in 1966; brother, Dale Andrews; and sister, Rowena Coan.

Mrs. Andrist died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, November 6, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 91 years old on October 15. She had resided in the New Douglas vicinity since 1948. She worked in packaging at United Drug in St. Louis and was a member of the Royal Neighbors Camp 3564 there. She was born in St. Louis, a daughter of Henry and Mary Merz Anterhaus. She married William George Andrist on April 23, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo. He survives in Litchfield Health Care Center. Surviving also are a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her family being the youngest of eight children. Preceding her in death were two brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Angal died at 9:20 a.m. Friday, March 19, 1999, in Sunny Acres Nursing Home, Petersburg. She was 83 years old on April 26. She was born in Staunton, a daughter of William and Maggie McPherson McIntyre Harvey. She married John Angal on August 17, 1939, in Lakeside Park, Mo.; he died September 30, 1990. Surviving are daughters, Marrilee Windisch and husband Carl, Vera M. Morgan, all of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Brian, Kurt, Erin, Troy, Kyle, Shawn and Janean Windisch, all of Springfield, Derek Windisch of Chatham, Lynn Kilhoffer of Heyworth; and five great grandchildren.

He married Ann P. Ferketich on September 21, 1939. She survives. He worked as an electrician, retiring from Electromotive in LaGrange. He was born in Girard, a son of Robert and Elizabeth Beck Archibald. His wife, the former Mary Leonard, survives. Surviving also are a son, Richard Archibald and wife Shari of Peoria; daughter, Georgia Grisolia and husband Anthony of Van Alystno, Texas; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He did farm work and then after his retirement was a woodcrafter. He was a member of the New Douglas Baptist Church. He was born in Panama, a son of Edward Andrew and Cora Della Edwards Arndt. He married Dorothy C. Daniels on May 1, 1937, in Highland. She died September 21, 1972. Surviving are daughters, Dottie Heeren and husband Jim of Livingston, Barbara Schreiber and husband Norman of Worden, Sue Ann Cunningham and husband Jim of Pocahontas; sisters, Laura Dubree of Troy, Hazel Blaskovich and husband John of Staunton; 14 grandchildren, Holly Gordon, Kristi Perez, Dave Heeren, Beth Atchison, Brad, Brian and Amy Cunningham, Dawn Dooley, Nikki Krchmar, Heather Schreiber, Keith Arndt, Earlene Thompson, Curtis and Christopher Arndt; and 11 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. John's Hospice. Mr. Arnett died at 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, in his home in Springfield. He was 78 years old last May 27. A Navy veteran, he saw service in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam before retiring after 21 years. He later became plant manager for Claridge School Supply in Harrison, Ark. and resided in Harrison for 20 years. He was a member of Elks Lodge 409 in Springfield. He was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., a son of Eugene F. and Lucille Arnett. The family later moved to Litchfield where he attended school. His wife, Margaret, died in 1986. Surviving are a daughter, Sherry Handshy of St. Louis; son, Don Arnett of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Jack Arnett of Litchfield; grandchildren, Steven Arnett of Sacramento, Calif., Lisa Wilkerson of St. Louis and Wendy Webster of Collinsville.
