Geneva I. Brown Yingling, formerly of Sorento, died Tuesday, November 9, 1999, in Cottonwood, Ariz. She was 87 years old on December 9. She made a quilt every month for many years which she gave to be distributed where there was a need. To the gift she always attached a short note proclaiming her faith in God. Her message reached hundreds of people throughout the world. born in Trilla, she was a daughter of Guy and Myrtle Brown and both she and her sisters attended school in Sorento. She married Robert Yingling on February 14, 1948. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversay before he preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Myrelle McHale of Cottowood; sister, Virginia Brown Blackford of Cottonwood; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a sister, Ouida Brown Schisler.

Kesha Lea York, granddaughter of Irma Clements of Butler, died Sunday, August 9, 1998, in Cardinal Glennon Hospital, St. Louis. She was born August 7 in Centralia. Surviving are her parents, Mickey Lee and Gena Elaine Tonks York of Vandalia; brothers, Mickey York Jr. of Fenton, Mo., Michael York of Brownstown, her twin Trevor York of Vandalia; sisters, Irma Leann York of Brownstown, Amber Mae York of Vandalia; and grandmother, Joyce Tonks of Vandalia.

Services for LaVonne York, sister of Velma Wygal of Hillsboro, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Overland Park, Kansas, at the North Overland Park Baptist Church. Burial will be in Green lawn Cemetery at Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. York, of Overland Park, died Sunday, January 10, 1999, in her home. she was 73 years old on April 5. She worked as a purchasing agent for National BellasİHess and for the Kansas City Star before she retired. She was born in Coffeen, a daughter of Orville and Fairy Blackburn Moore. Her husband of five years, Carl F. York, survives. Surviving also are a son, Randy W. Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Myron Moore of Springfield; and three granddaughters. Preceding her in death was a brother, Darrell Moore. McGilley and Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel in Overland Park is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Young, Sr., Kenneth R.
Funeral arrangements for Kenneth R. Young, Sr., are pending at Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Mr. Young died at 12:50 am. this morning, Friday, May 28, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, following a long illness. He was 60 years old on December 23. He operated Ken's Lounge in Litchfield for several years and was retired. Surviving are his wife, the former Tjode L. Barnes; sons, Kenneth J. Young, Jr. and Kevin L. Young and wife Micki of Litchfield; daughter, Tracy Green of Springfield; and seven grandchildren. Others surviving include an aunt who raised him, Kathleen Young of Donnellson. Services for Kenneth Robert Young, Sr., formerly of Litchfield, were held Sunday afternoon in Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro. The Rev. James Howie officiated. The remains are to be cremated and the ashes scattered at a later date. Mr. Young died at 12:53 a.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 60 years old on December 23. He owned and operated Ken's Lounge in Litchfield for 20 years, from 1968 to 1988. About five years ago he moved from Litchfield to Springfield. He was a member of the Donnellson Methodist Church, the Hillsboro Moose Lodge and the Hillsboro Jaycees. He was born in Green ville, a son of Isaac S. and Elizabeth Robinson Young. He married Tjode Barnes on December 26, 1957, in Holly Springs, Miss. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Kenneth Robert Young, Jr., of Litchfield, Kevin Young and wife Micki of Litchfield; daughter, Tracy Green of Springfield; and seven grandchildren. A brother, Errol T. Young, preceded him in death.

Miriam G. Millburg Young, formerly of Farmersville, died Friday, September 24, 1999, in Tuscon, Ariz. She was 71 years old on November 15. A daughter of Frank and Ardella Kraus Millburg, she married Joseph Young of Pawnee. He died in November 1990. Surviving are her children, Roger and Barbara of Maine, Dennis, Bonnie, Becky and Larry of Florida, Kevin of New Mexico and Debbie of Phoenix; sisters, Carla Comerford of Springfield, Sylvia Havener of Oklahoma; and 19 grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Kenneth; brothers, Harvel, Warren, Don and Bernard Millburg; and a sister, Ardit Murphy. Services were held in Tucson with burial in Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery there.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home at Witt. Mr. Yuna died at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 82 years old on October 30, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired rural mail carrier, member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association, the Witt Lions, the American Legion and St. Paul's Church. He was born in Coalton, a son of Mike and Anna Zaharcsok Yuna. His wife, the former Freda Reisacher, survives. Surviving also are daughters, Karen Pearson and husband Richard of Beardstown, Sandra Moreland of Auburn; a sister, Ann Rager of Bull Head City, Ariz.; four grandchildren, one step grandchild and four step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were brothers, Michael and Steve Yuna and half brothers, Steve and Joe Kurica.

Services for Evelyn Anna Zak, formerly of Litchfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of St. Cletus, 2705 Zumbehl road, St. Charles, Mo. Burial will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson street, St. Charles. Mrs. Zak died Sunday, November 22, 1998, in St. Joseph's Health Center, St. Charles, Mo. She was 79 years old on August 29. She was born in Chicago, a daughter of John and Anna Szymski. She married Louis Zak in June 1941. The couple moved to Litchfield from Chicago in 1982. He underwent open heart surgery last February. He survives. Surviving also are daughters, Shirley Simone and husband Thomas of Clayton, Calif., Mary Lou Wieneke and husband Harold of St. Charles; a son, Edward J. Zak and wife Debbi of Downers Grove; brother, Stephen Szymski of Westmont; sister, Jean Niemaszyk of Des Plains; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother and sister, Louie and Valeria Szymski.

Mrs. Zanni, of Petersburg, died at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was 82 years old on June 22. She resided in the Hillsboro area for most of her life and was was a graduate of Hillsboro High School. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Hillsboro. She was born in East Fork Township of Montgomery County, a daughter of Thomas and Martha McCaslin Reckerd. She married Aldo Zanni on September 15, 1935, in Edwardsville. He survives. Surviving also are sons, Thomas Zanni of Hillsboro, Dale L. Zanni of Kingman, Ariz., Ray Zanni and wife Cheri of Petersburg; a daughter, Barbara Reynolds and husband Charles of Pawnee; brother, Milo Reckerd of Fayetteville, N.C.; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three brothers.

Linda L. Zaske, step mother of Sandy Napier of Hillsboro, died Saturday, October 24, 1998, in her home in Warrensburg. She was 50 years old on August 7. She was a manager at Casey's General Store, member of the New Hope Worship Center in Warrensburg and former coach of the Country Girls softball team. She was born in Danville, a daughter of Donald A. and Betty A. Wyatt Prouty. She married Murray Zaske on July 27, 1984, in Warrensburg. He survives. Surviving also are five children, her mother, a brother and three sisters, none from the local area.
Zender, Josef
Funeral Mass for centenarian Josef Zender, of Litchfield, will be said at 11 a.m. tuesday in the chapel at St. Francis Hospital, where he had been a resident for the past several years. The Rev. Father Ted Schelich will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park. Plummer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. No visitation is planned. Mr. Zender died at 4:10 p.m. Friday, January 8, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 101 years old on July 5. He was born in Duisburg, Germany, a son of Peter and Maria Schmitt Zender. A veteran of World War I, he served in the German Army, was wounded and taken prisoner by the English in France. He came to the United States in 1925 and became a citizen in 1930. Working his way through night school, he became a drafting and design engineer for the Inland Steel Company in Chicago. He worked for the company for many years until his retirement. He came to Litchfield in September 1990. Survivors include a niece, Sister Hugh Holtmann, O.S.F., of Belleville, formerly of Litchfield and formerly administrator of St. Francis Hospital. Other nieces and nephews surviving in Germany and the United States. Preceding him in death were brothers, Johann, Mathias, Peter, Jakob, Karl and Heinrich Zender and a sister, Gertrude Holtmann. Funeral Mass for Josef Zender, of Litchfield, formerly of Chicago, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at St. Francis Hospital. The Rev. Father Ted Schelich and the Rev. Father John Sheahan officiated. Sister Leola Brown was the lector. Eucharistic minister was Sister Mary Flynn. Organist was Sister Barbara Mary Lanham. Musical selections for the Mass were "Alleluia! Alleluia!," "Soul of My Savior," and "May Saints and Angels Lead You On." Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Zender, 101, died Friday, January 8, in St. Francis Hospital.
Zenner, Herbert
Services for Herbert Zenner, of Donnellson, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive, with the Rev. James D. Howie officiating. Burial will be in Union Miners Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Union Miners Cemetery. Mr. Zenner died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 1999, in Golden Manor Nursing Home, Nokomis. He was 90 years old on November 9, and an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Army from January 16, 1941 to November 5, 1945, and earned the American Defense Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Phillippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct medal and four overseas service bars. He worked on the railroad and in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Eventually he became a steel worker with Granite City Steel, now known as National Steel. He attended the Zion German School and was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. He was born in Mt. Olive, a son of Emil Alvin and Pauline Goehring Zenner. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were sisters, Martha Mueller and Frieda Hagen and brothers, Curt, Emil Henry and Roy Zenner. Services for Herbert Zenner, of Donnellson, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. The Rev. James D. Howie officiated. Ernie Thomack was the soloist and pianist. Musical selections were "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were great nephews, Robert, David, Howard, Andrew, John and Tim Zenner. At graveside in Union Miners Cemetery the flag was folded by Dan Mancini and Michael Kasarda, and presented by Kasarda to a niece, Ramona Comptdon. Ernie Thomack played taps. Following the services the family gathered for lunch at Billie's. Mr. Zenner, 90, died Wednesday, November 17, in Golden Manor Nursing Home, Nokomis.
Ziglar, Edward J.
Memorial service for Edward J. Ziglar, of Staunton, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Father George Radosevich officiating. The remains were cremated. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. They suggest memorials be directed to Staunton Home Health Department or the St. Michael's Restoration Fund. Mr. Ziglar died at 11:49 a.m. Friday, January 15, 1999, in Oliver Anderson Hospital, Maryville. He was 73 years old on January 22, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a control specialist with Granite City Steel for 34 years before he retired in 1988. He previously worked for eight years as a coal miner. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and VFW Post 1241, both in Staunton. He was born in Williamson, a son of John and Annie Kovalik Ziglar. He married Violet M. Fortuna on June 28, 1947, in St. Michael Church. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Edward Steven Ziglar and Larry J. Ziglar, both of Staunton; a daughter, Susan D. Sievers of Staunton; brothers, Mike Ziglar of Mt. Olive, Raymond Ziglar of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; a sister, Helen Kaganich of White City; and four grandchildren, Tracy Rich, Nicole Ziglar, Tim and Kati Sievers. Preceding him in death were six brothers.

She was born in Benld, a daughter of William and Anna Baltruzis. Her husband, Anthony Zilinski, died May 8, 1990. Surviving are sons, Ray Ziliniski of Benld, Frank Simutis of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughters, Gerri Pasteiner of Rochester, Mich., Sandy Francis of Antioch; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding her in death were brothers, Raymond and William "Bud" Baltruzis and sisters, Anna Chivinsky and Margaret Bartulis.

Graveside service for Rosella May Zimmer, of Witt, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Gloria Davis officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday in Hough and Sons Funeral Home, Hillsboro, from 10 to 11 a.m. Mrs. Zimmer died Monday, November 23, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 90 years old on April 30. She was a member of the Witt United Methodist Church, the Broadcaster Class and a former member of the Rebecca Lodge. She was born in Coal City, a daughter of Anton and Agnes Graham Mollman, and attended Hillsboro Schools. She married Earl H. Zimmer in 1929 in Witt. He died March 27, 1994. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth A. Storm and husband Leland; grandchildren, Margaret Watson of Normal, Terry Sweet of Hillsboro, Michael Moody of Chicago, Tim Storm of Raymond, Jim Storm of Hillsboro; and 11 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were daughters, Ida Lou Zimmer in 1947 and Norma Jean Moody in 1994; two brothers and two sisters.
Zimmerman, Zoe A.
A memorial gathering attended by approximately 200 people was held October 21, in Mill Valley, Calif., to honor Zoe Ann Zimmerman, formerly of Litchfield. Zimmerman died unexpectedly on Friday, October 15, 1999, in her home in Mill Valley. She was 48 years old on September 11. At the gathering, several friends recalled her generous, kind, fun-loving nature. Two of her midwife colleagues told a story about a woman who gave birth the night Zoe died. The woman noticed a presence in the room and experienced a peaceful felling. Afterward she decided to name her newborn child Zoe, although she had already chosen a different name. The woman did not know Zoe or about her death until the next day. Zimmerman was a daughter of Betty "Tex" and Robert "Zeke" Zimmerman, teachers in the Litchfield school system for many years. She graduated from Litchfield High School in the class of 1969. She continued her education at the University of Illinois where she majored in art and music. She attended St. Anne's School of Nursing in Chicago where she became a registered nurse and later moved to San Francisco to work as an emergency room nurse. She earned a master of science degree with a specialty in nurse midwifery from the University of California at San Francisco and worked as a nurse midwife for several years. She enjoyed painting, graphic arts and music of all types. Surviving are daughters, Thea and Kallie Teufel and her mother, Tex Zimmerman of Litchfield. Others surviving include her former husband, Bill Teufel of Mill Valley. Preceding her in death was her father, Zeke Zimmerman. A fund is being est up by LHS classmates for a memorial award or scholarship to be given to a student showing talent and interest in the arts. Zingher, Dr. Henry C.
Dr. Henry C. Zingher, who practiced medicine in Staunton in 1948, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, in his home in Vernon Hills. Dr. Zingher was 75 years old on May 15. He was born in New York City, a son of Dr. Abraham and Anna Cheire Zingher. He attended Bethany College in Williamsburg, Va., in 1942, the Chicago Medical School in 1946 and served his residency at New York City Hospital in 1947. After leaving Staunton he moved to Rushville where he practiced medicine until retiring in 1994. He was a member of the American Medical Association and the Or Sholom Temple in Vernon Hills. Surviving are sons, Abraham R. Zingher of Beach Park, Harry L. Zingher of Rushville, Joseph P. Zingher of Glen Ellyn and Alexander C. Zingher of Charleston; a sister, Dr. Louise Dean of Yardley, Pa.; and two granddaughters. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Worthington Funeral Home, Rushville. Burial will take place at a later dat in Westchester Hills Cemetery in Hastings on the Hudson, N.Y.

Services for Stella Sievers Zipprodt, of Litchfield, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield with the Rev. Donald Langhoff officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Zion Lutheran Church. Mrs. Zipprodt died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 92 years old last April 1. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield, and member and past president of the Zion Ladies Aid. She was born in Vienna, Austria, a daughter of Frank and Anna Repse Popelar. She married Arthur Sievers on September 11, 1926, in Livingston. He died May 5, 1972. Later, on October 2, 1980, she married Kenneth Zipprodt in the Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield. He died June 7, 1994. Surviving are a son, Raymond A. Sievers and wife Nordella of Boise, Idaho; daughters, Edna Nimmons of Litchfield, Elizabeth "Betty" Stockstrum and husband Charles of Imperial, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Howard Nimmons and wife Carolyn of Chesterfield, Mo., Kenneth Nimmons and wife Julie of Litchfield, Marilyn K. Strowmatt and husband 1st Sgt. David Strowmatt, with the Marine Corps in Kailua, Hawaii, George A. Kramlich and wife Christy of Maplewood, Mo., Gina Whitener and husband Jeff of Imperial, Mo., Thomas Sievers and wife Lori of Boise, Idaho, Bill Sievers and wife Tina of Hagerstown, Md., Jerri McFadyen and husband John of Eagar, Ariz.; 19 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Louis, Frank and infant Joseph Popelar; and sisters, Anna Popelar, Amelia Gorenz and Elsie McCalla. Services for Stella Zipprodt, of Litchfield, were held at 1 p.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald Langhoff officiated. Ernie Thomack was the organist. The congregation sang the hymns "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Howard Nimmons and Matthew Nimmons, both of Florissant, Mo., Joseph Nimmons of University City, Mo., Kenneth Nimmons and Ronald Buehrer, both of Litchfield, Louis "Buzz" Popelar of Peoria, Thomas Sievers of Boise, Idaho and William Sievers of South Mountain, Pa. Burial was in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Following the services a luncheon was provided for family and friends by the Zion Ladies Aid. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Zipprodt, 92, died Tuesday, March 9, in St. Francis Hospital.

Mrs. Zumwalt died at 1:40 p.m. Friday, October 30, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 69 years old on January 22. She was a cook at St. Francis Hospital for several years, and a graduate of the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Albert C. and May Card Epps. She married Charles Davis Zumwalt on January 9, 1956, in Corinth, Miss. Surviving are her husband, Charles, of Toledo, Ill.; sons, Albert Charles "Chuck" Woodruff and wife Carolyn of Pawnee, Chris L. Zumwalt and wife Teresa of Pawnee and Andrew W. Zumwalt of Mesa, Ariz.; her mother, May Epps of Litchfield; brothers, Raymond Epps of Mesa, Ariz., Lee and Tom Epps, both of Litchfield; sisters, Marilyn Cravens of White City, Edna Turley and husband James of Chatham, Martha Davis of Litchfield; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were an infant daughter; her father, a brother Charles in infancy and sisters, Ruth Ann in infancy and Grace Copples. The Rev. Jay Johnson officiated. Burial was Elmwood Cemetery. Musical selections for the service were "The Rose" and "Go Rest High Upon That Mountain." Pallbearers were Wayne Elizondo, Kenneth Fletcher, Kim Fletcher, Ronald Harrison, Kelly Zumwalt and Rick Zumwalt. Mrs. Zumwalt, 73, died Saturday, December 11, in St. John's Hospital.
Zuptich, Jr., Paul
Services for Paul Zuptich, Jr., of Benld, were held at 1 p.m. today in Kravanya Funeral Home there. The Rev. Richard Hill officiated. Burial was in Benld City Cemetery.Mr. Zuptich died at 8:55 p.m. Friday, November 13, 1998, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. He was 81 years old on February 18, and an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a butcher in a grocery store before he retired. He was born in Benld, a son of Paul, Sr., and Frances Zuptich, and never married. Surviving are brothers, Tony Zuptich of Gillespie, John Zuptich of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Mary Otto of Afton, Mo., Ann Riley of Oklahoma City, Okla. Preceding him in death were brothers, Steve and George Zuptich.
Zyph, Claudia M.
No services for Claudia M. Zyph, of Bunker Hill, are scheduled. Her remains are to be cremated. Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Zyph died at 7:15 this morning, Thursday, November 5, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Staunton. She was 96 years old on December 20. She was born in Patterson, a daughter of William and Amelia Fry Farmer. She married William Zyph on January 19, 1920. He died in 1966. Surviving are a daughter, Billie Demas and husband George of Bunker Hill; a son, Richard Zyph and wife Norma of Wood River; three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family. Six sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
