Mr. Nathaniel John Bishop
Nathaniel John Bishop, age 68, of White Hall, died early Saturday
morning, Dec. 30, 2000 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 28, 1932 in White Hall, the son of William T. and
Bessie Edwards Bishop.
He married Zina M. Holmes on Feb. 6, 1955 in White Hall and she
survives.
He is also survived by three sons, David (wife, Dorothy) Bishop of
Gillespie, Jerry L. Bishop of White Hall and Thomas W. (wife, Amber)
Bishop of White Hall; three daughters, Rebecca Mathews of White Hall,
Linda (husband, Jim) Voyles of White Hall and Dorothy (husband, Cliff)
Coats of Brighton; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one
brother, Fred Bishop of White Hall; four sisters, Mable Jean Petrie of
Peoria, Judy Wyatt of Jacksonville, Loleta Suttles of Roodhouse and Peggy
Bishop of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents, his stepmother, Verma Pauline Bishop and one brother,
Pink Keith Bishop.
Mr. Bishop farmed for many years and worked at the Carrollton High
School as a custodian for two years. He attended the New Life Church in
White Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001,
at the New Life Church in White Hall with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in
Green field. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at
the New Life Church. Memorials are suggested to the family. The
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Leta Bonds (Shoemaker)
Leta Bonds, age 60, of Payson, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died Wednesday afternoon (November 1, 2000) at her residence.
She was born January 2, 1940 in Quincy, Ill. daughter of the late Clifton and Bertha Lyman Shoemaker.
She married David L. Bonds on November 7, 1959 in Griggsville, Ill. and he preceded her in death on November 5, 1994.
Surviving is one daughter, Tonya McGownd of Pittsfield, Ill.; one son, Brady Bonds and wife Cathy of Griggsville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Steve (Vickie) Bradshaw of Macomb, Ill.; one brother, Robert Shoemaker of Escondido, California; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Becky Bonds who died in infancy; and two brothers, John and Clayton Shoemaker.
Mrs. Bonds was a graduate of Griggsville High School and was a past employee of Brown Shoe Co. in Pittsfield, Ill.. She was also employed by Trio Manufacturing in Griggsville, Ill. retiring after 20 years. She enjoyed flower gardening and mushroom hunting.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday (November 3, 2000) at St. James Episcopal Church in Griggsville, Ill. with Fr. William D. Roeger officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon Friday until the time of service at the St. James Episcopal Church in Griggsville, Ill.. Memorials may be made to the St. James Episcopal Church or to the Blessing Hospice.
Mrs. Corinne Bonnett (Nighswonger)
Corinne Bonnett, age 81, of Pittsfield, Ill. died Tuesday (Dec. 12, 2000) at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Ill..
She was born May 15, 1919 daughter of the late Charles Lemuel and Minnie Ann Wilkins Nighswonger.
She married Julius Newton “Buck” Bonnett on May 21, 1938 in Louisiana, Mo. and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1970.
Surviving is one daughter, Velma Bonnett of Pittsfield, Ill.; two sons, Roger L. Bonnett and wife Janet and J.N. Bonnett and wife Dee both of Pittsfield, Ill.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Steve (Cheryl) Elder of Keokuk, Iowa and Jeff Bonnett and wife Kelli of Pittsfield, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Rachel and Brooke Elder of Keokuk, Iowa and Megan and Lindsey Bonnett of Pittsfield, Ill..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Judith Ann Bonnett and Janet Marie Bonnett; four sisters, Florence Hatch, Elva Nighswonger, twins Neva and Eva Nighswonger; and three brothers, Cecil, Charles, and Lowell Nighswonger.
Mrs. Bonnett was a member of the Pittsfield Church of Christ who enjoyed crochet.
Private funeral services will be held Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Pittsfield, Ill.. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Velma Bonnett Trust Fund c/o the funeral home.
Miss Jessie Louise Bool
Jessie Louise Bool, 99 , of Jacksonville died Friday evening, July 7, 2000 at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville. She was born on October 4, 1900 in Virginia, Illinois the daughter of Webster and Abbie Hall Bool.
She is survived by one nephew, Claude Donaldson of Ashland and several cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister, Leta Bool and two brothers, Edgar Bool and Clarence Donaldson.
Miss Bool taught school from 1920 to 1957, last teaching at the Lynnville school. She was a member of the Woodson Christian Church and the Retired Teachers Association.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Ashland City Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
Mr. Edward Ira Braley
Edward Ira Braley, 84, of Hettick, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 in Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville. He was born May 4, 1916 in South Palmyra Twp. Macoupin County, Illinois, a son of Ira Clayton and Mazie Pratt Braley. He married Thelma Eileen Ribble on May 6, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas, and on May 6th of this year, they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Surviving are his wife; one son Mark Braley of Hettick; one stepson; Tom Walden of Raytown, Missouri; two brothers; James Braley of Palmyra; Wendell (wife Phyllis) Braley of Jacksonville; one sister; Mary Dugger of Palmyra; one granddaughter; Tami (husband Ron) Gross of Palmyra; four grandsons; Tommy Walden II of Springfield, IL.; Dane Braley; Nathan Braley; and Gage Braley all of Hettick; one great grandson; Ryan Bilbruck of Palmyra; and one great great grandson; Blane Bilbruck of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by his parents; one step daughter; Marilyn Mullens; one step son-in-law Karl Mullens; four brothers; Henry; his twin Edwin; Irving; George in infancy; and one sister Clara Braley.
He was a retired correctional officer for the State of Illinois, and farmed for many years in the Hettick and Palmyra area. He was a veteran of WW II having served in the army, and was a member of Palmyra American Legion Post # 1034.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, in Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Hettick Cemetery, Hettick, IL. Memorials are suggested to Northwestern Rescue Squad.
Dorothy L. Breitweiser (Scoggins)
Dorothy L. Breitweiser, 69, of Brighton died at 12:35 P.M. on Saturday at St.
Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
Born in Kane on July 13, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Lafe and
Ruth Burns Scoggins.
On Nov. 19, 1951 she married Morris Breitweiser in Arkansas and he
survives. Also surviving are a daughter: Kimberly Tuey of Carrollton, 3
sons: Robert Breitweiser of Brighton, Kenneth Breitweiser of Medora and
Francis David Breitweiser of Lake Havasu, Ariz. There are 5 grandchildren
and 4 great grandchildren surviving and 6 sisters: Irene Cannon of Dow, Iva
May Baugh of Sutherland, Tex., Florence Hayn of Hermen, Mo., Lorene
Camden of Tacoma, Wash., Dolores Story of Milton and Doris Camerer of
Carrollton. 4 brothers: Stanley Scoggins of Winfield, Mo., Tad Scoggins of
Detroit, Ill., Randy Scoggins of Jerseyville and Jerry Scoggins of Grafton.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Ronnie, Franklin and Francis
Scoggins.
There is no visitation. Cremation rites will be accorded with private
funeral at a later date. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. John Russell "Pete" Brockhouse
John Russell “Pete” Brockhouse, 83, of Bluffs died Monday afternoon June 19, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born October 20, 1916 in Bluffs the son of the late John D. and Caroline Frohwitter Brockhouse.
He married Crystal Jean Pile December 29, 1940 in Bowling Green , Missouri. She preceded him in death February 18, 1992.
Mr. Brockhouse attended Bluffs schools; he served in the US Army in the 2nd World War in Europe. He was involved in battles in Tunisian, Naples Foggia, and Rome Arno. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars.
Mr. Brockhouse was a farmer, an Independent Owner/Operator Trucker; he worked for a time with the State Highway Department, IPLA, and was the Road Commissioner for Road District #7 in Scott County. He was a member of the North Scott Saddle Club and other Saddle Clubs in the area; He was a Judge for many years at various horse shows in Illinois and Missouri. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluffs.
Surviving are his children Mrs. Mark (Judy) Unland of St. Louis, Missouri and John D. (wife Paula) Brockhouse of Murrayville. 4 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also 3 sisters Margaret Edlen of Bluffs, Laura Brockhouse and Wilma Chamberlin both of Jacksonville survive.
His parents, his wife and 2 brothers William Brockhouse, Harvey Brockhouse and 2 sisters Dwenna Heck and Verna Bunch, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday June 23, 2000 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluffs. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery south of Bluffs.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM Thursday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Meredosia/Bluffs Rescue Squad or to the Memorial Fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Mr. Rodney Herman Brown
Rodney Herman Brown, 54, of Waverly, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000 in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, a son of Herman J. and Genevieve Rawlings Brown. He married Janis Marlene Theobald on November 12, 1966 I Springfield and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Heather (husband, Mark) Bell and Hyla Brown (fiancée, Bernie Kipp) both of Nashville Tennessee; his mother, Genevieve Brown of Waverly; one grandson, Liam Brown of Nashville, TN; one granddaughter, Addie Elizabeth bell of Nashville, TN; one brother, Ronald J. (wife, Judith) Brown of Waverly; one sister, Rhonda (husband, Bruce) Dill of Waverly and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Roxanne Brown.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Waverly United Methodist church, active in Sangamon County Farm Bureau Soil and Water Conservation District; Sangamon County Fair Board; Maxwell Township Trustee, Rees Elevator Board, and Providence Cemetery Board.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2000 at the Waverly United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the Waverly United Methodist Church from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly United Methodist Church Elevator Fund. The Neece Funeral Home in Waverly is serving the family.
Mr. Wilbur E. Bruner
Wilbur E. Bruner, Jr., 84, of Pleasant Plains, died Monday morning, July 31, 2000 at Springfield Health Care Center in Springfield. He was born on October 17, 1915 in Rockbridge the son of Wilbur E., Sr. and Marie Freer Bruner. He married Jane Robertson on June 19, 1936 in Bowling Green , Missouri and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Wilbur R. (wife, Betty) Bruner of Wheaton and James P. (wife, Kaye) Bruner of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mr. Bruner graduated from Illinois College in 1936. He entered the United States Navy and served as Lieutenant in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, Mr. Bruner went to work for Wyeth Laboratories, retiring as a district manager in 1978. Mr. Bruner was a past mayor of Pleasant Plains and enjoyed gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2000 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial in Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Illinois College.
Infant Grant Micheal Buchanan
Grant Micheal Buchanan, infant son of Brandy Buchanan, died Wednesday afternoon at University Hospital and Clinic in Iowa City, Iowa.
He is survived by his mother, of Fort Madison, Iowa; maternal grandmother Susan Owsley, of Muscatine, Iowa; maternal grandfather, James Buchanan of Jacksonville; maternal great-grandparents: John and Betty Farmer, and Wayne Buchanan and Marie Buchanan, all of Jacksonville; and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2000 at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to the Heart Fund. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cleo D. Bunting
Cleo D. Bunting, age 86, of White Hall, died Tuesday morning, Sept.
26, 2000 at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
He was born Dec. 14, 1913 in Albion, the son of Lewis A. and Nell
Kendrick Bunting.
He married Wanda I. Thompson on July 5, 1939 and she preceded
him in death on March 4, 1995.
He is survived by one son, Dennis (wife, Karban) Bunting of
Statesboro, Georgia; four grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one brother,
Carl Bunting of Godfrey; and four sisters, Neva Brasel of White Hall; Rose
Bigham of Hillview, Vera King of Roodhouse and Donna Arnold of
Patterson. He was preceded in death by one son, Melvin L. Bunting; one
brother, Marvin Bunting and one sister, Lorraine Powell.
Mr. Bunting worked security for Shell Oil Company in Roxanna for
nearly 30 years, retiring in 1974. He was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the White Hall
Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at
the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the White Hall Multicare
Center Activities Fund.
Mr. Harold M. Burge
Harold M. Burge, 93, of South Jacksonville died Wednesday afternoon September 13, 2000 at his residence. He was born March 23, 1907 in Decatur the son of James McCoy and Bessie Electa Bullard Burge. He married Helen Deaton on December 10, 1977 in Beardstown and she preceded him in death on February 25, 1982.
He is survived by one son, Roger (wife, Sharon) Burge of Danville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Nathan (wife, Sue) Burge of St. Augustine, Florida and Truman (wife, Gerry) Burge of Lakewood, Washington; three sisters, Ruby Covert of South Holland, and Myrtle Hook and Gladys (husband, Dewain) Walter both of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; and special friend June Dinwiddie of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by one son, Harold Burge, Jr., and six sisters.
Mr. Burge worked as a carpenter/contractor throughout his adult life. His specialty was custom cabinetry, which he installed in recording studios in Los Angeles. Later in life he worked in South Suburban Chicago before moving to Jacksonville. He attended Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2000 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Sunday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 4-6 p.m.. Memorials are suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church.
