Mr. Larry Ray Bushnell
Larry Ray Bushnell, age 45, of Roodhouse, died early Wednesday
morning, Oct. 4, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Dec. 27, 1954 in Jacksonville, the son of Murl Dean and
Ardene King Bushnell. His mother, Ardene Bushnell survives in
Roodhouse.
He is also survived by one son, Trever (wife, Billie) Bushnell of
Jacksonville; one daughter, Melissa Bushnell of Green field; one grandson,
Dalton Bushnell; three sisters, Karen Ferguson-Black of White Hall; Linda
(husband, Joseph) Turner of Springfield; and Leah (husband, Chuck)
Kraushaar of White Hall; two brothers, Gary (wife, Vicki) Bushnell of
Roodhouse and Terry (wife, Charlene) Bushnell of Roodhouse. He was
preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Bushnell worked for the City of Roodhouse for several years and
then for LaClede Steel in Alton. He worked at the Jacksonville
Developmental Center since 1992 and was a member of the AFSCME
Union Council 31.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at
the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse with burial in the
Williams-Edwards Cemetery near Roodhouse. Friends may call after Noon
Thursday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 4:00-8:00
p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Larry Bushnell Benefit Fund and may
be given at the funeral home or First Bank in Roodhouse or First Bank in
Jacksonville.
Minnie Carls (Huppe)
Minnie Carls, 96, of Arenzville died Wednesday morning, August 30, 2000 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown. She was born on August 17, 1904 in Beardstown, the daughter of Henry and Lucinda Roegge Huppe. She married Edward L. C. Carls on August 22, 1923 in Arenzville and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1988.
She is survived by two sons, Milton (wife, Jean) Carls of Arenzville and Garry Carls of Imperial, Missouri; two daughters, Janice (husband, Wayne) Schone of Arenzville and Inez Anderson of Knoxville, Tennessee; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, one brother, William Huppe of Arenzville, and one sister, Edna Lotter of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Huppe (surviving wife Charlotte of Arenzville,); two sisters, Alma Vette and Norma Krohe; and one great granddaughter.
Mrs. Carls was a homemaker, for many years helping her husband on the family farm. She was a longtime and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Arenzville , the Ladies Aid, and did volunteer work at the State Hospital in Jacksonville. She loved her family, church, and yard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2000 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Gerald C. "Jerry" Carmody
Gerald C. “Jerry” Carmody, 68, of Bridgeton, Mo. formerly of Carrollton
died on July 4, 2000 at 3:20 P.M. at his home.
Born in White Hall on June 23, 1932 he was the son of the late Clare R.
“Mickey” and Lucille Conrad Carmody.
He was married to the former Mary Pohl Bremer in 1986 and she
survives.
Also surviving are 2 step daughters:Mrs. Craig “Mary Jeanne”
Mierkowski and Mrs. Greg “Carolyn M.” Headberg. 4 Step grandchildren:
Jessica and Ashley Mierkowski, Greg “Jay” and Jon Headberg.
Nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Charlotte Carmody.
Mr. Carmody was a graduate of St. John’s High School in 1950 and later
from Bradley University in Peoria. He had formerly worked for the U.S.
Treasury Dept. and Amoco Oil Co. in Wood River. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict Era.
A gathering of close friends will be held at the home and a memorial
mass will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton on Tues. at 6
P.M. with private committal rites scheduled at St. John’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church or to Unity Health
Hospice of St. Louis. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in
charge of arrangements.
Howard E. Carter
Howard E. Carter, 90, of Naperville formerly of Carrollton died at 3:15
P.M. on Friday at Tabor Hills Nursing Home in Naperville.
Born on April 14, 1910 in Carrollton he was the son of the late David C.
and Henrietta Cunningham Carter.
He first married Gertrude Jennings on Jan. 4, 1936 and she preceded him
in death on Jan. 22, 1982. He later married Mary Woods on May 6, 1985
and she survives him in Edwardsville.
Also surviving are a daughter: Sandra (husband-Alfred) Osborne of
Reno, Nev. and 2 sons: Ron (wife-Mary) Carter of Naperville and Bruce
(wife-Linda) Carter of Elgin. There are 9 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Ella Mayberry and Bernice
Chinowth and 2 brothers: John Carter and Harry “Hap” Carter.
He was a World War II Navy Veteran and past member of the Alton
VFW Post 1308. For many years prior to retirement he was a heavy
equipment operator for Operating Engineers Local 520 in Granite City. He
was a member of the Carrollton First Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until service time at 3 P.M. on Wednesday
at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will follow in
Carter Cemetery just south of Carrollton and memorials are mentioned to
Carter Cemetery.
Mrs. Irene C. Carter (Pranger)
Irene C. Carter, 75, of Jerseyville formerly of Carrollton died at 3:45 P.M.
on Sat. May 20, 2000 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton.
Born in Carrollton on May 19, 1925 she was the daughter of the late
Joseph and Gertrude Herket Pranger.
On April 24, 1947 she married Dale F. Carter in Carrollton and he
preceded her in death on June 23, 1996.
Surviving are 5 daughters: Mrs. Bob “Ann” Barnard of Murrayville,
Sherry Vincent of Jerseyville, Mrs. Gary “Renee” Johnson of Nutwood, Mrs.
Bob “Trude” Reeves of Jerseyville and Mrs. James “Gwen” Reynolds of
Jerseyville. 3 sons: Steve Carter of Elsah, Charles (wife-Pat) Carter of
Jerseyville and Larry Carter of Jerseyville. There are 20 grandchildren and 5
great grandchildren surviving. 1 brother: Joe (wife-Edna) Pranger of
Carrollton, 1 sister Doris (husband-George) Kaiser of Carrollton survive.
Preceding her in death are 2 brothers Henry (wife-Mary Lou) Pranger and
Jerome (wife-Bernadine) Pranger, 2 sisters preceded in death: Mary
(husband-Keith) Smith and Helen (husband-Joe) Blesse.
Irene worked in the restaurant industry for most of her life including 23
years at the Oasis Restaurant in Carrollton. She loved sewing, bingo and
yard sales.
Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Monday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral
Home in Carrollton. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 A.M. at the
St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton. Burial will be in the Carter
Cemetery south of Carrollton. Memorials may be made to the Carter
Cemetery.
Mrs. Elizabeth J. Cavaness (Manz)
Elizabeth J. Cavaness, 85, of Lake Wales, Florida and formerly of Jacksonville, died Monday morning, December 4, 2000 at Lake Wales Hospital in Lake Wales. She was born on February 5, 1915 in Jacksonville the daughter of Edward J. and Laura Schumm Manz. She married Frederick G. Cavaness on January 11, 1942 and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1986.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann (husband, Jay) Correll of Lake Wales, Florida; and one grandson, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary June Randoph (surviving husband Thomas of Jerseyville.)
Mrs. Cavaness had been a bookkeeper for E.J. Manz Sheet Metal in Jacksonville. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends following a 5:45 p.m. prayer service, until 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Our Saviour Building Fund or Visiting Nurses of Central Illinois, Jacksonville Branch.
Mrs. Minerva I. Challans (Wharton)
Minerva J. Challans, 100, of Jacksonville died Saturday, July 29, 2000 at Jacksonville Convalescent Center.
She was born on July 30, 1899 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Alfred and Wilhemina Anderson Wharton. She married Lyle Challans and he preceded her in death in 1955.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Wharton and two sisters, Felicia Wharton DeFrates and Virginia W. Lonergan.
Mrs. Challans had been a beautician in Jacksonville for many years. She was a member of Central Christian Church.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 01, 2000 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. till 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Central Christian Church.
Mrs. Mary Irene Chance (Hepworth)
Mary Irene Chance, 87, of Alsey, died late Wednesday evening, November 22, 2000 at the Scott County Nursing Center.
She was born on February 5, 1913, near Alsey, the daughter of Joshua and Clarabell Ausmus Hepworth. She married Charles Chance on December 24, 1948 in Winchester and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1985.
She is survived by one son, LeRoy (wife, Patsy) Crain of Roodhouse, two stepsons, Kenneth of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Robert of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Della Sanders of Alsey and Helen Frost of Winchester; one brother, Ben Hepworth of Gifford. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Bud Hepworth; two sisters; Louetta Moore and Sarah Colvin; one stepdaughter, Ruth Decker; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Chance was a homemaker. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Barton W. Stone Christian Home for many years. She was a 1930 graduate of Alsey High School. She was also a member of Alsey Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Alsey Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery near Alsey. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester, where the family will meet friends from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Alsey Baptist Church.
Mrs. Alice A. Chipman (Acker)
Alice A. Chipman, 71, of Jacksonville died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at St. John’s Hospice Center in Springfield, Illinois. She was born September 13, 1928 in Rushville, Illinois the daughter of Earl and Mamie Armstrong Acker. She married William E. Chipman on November 30, 1947 in Rushville and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Bob (wife, Janet) Chipman of Jacksonville and Jim (wife, Stephanie) Chipman of Springfield; four grandsons, three sisters, Naydene Cummings of Chicago, Norma (husband, Jim) Edwards of Rushville, and Ellen (husband, Al) Krasuski of Burlington, Iowa; and two brothers, Vic (wife, Pat) Acker and Larry (wife, Jan) Acker, both of Rushville. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorcas New and Margaret Spates, and one brother, Thomas Acker.
Mrs. Chipman graduated from Rushville High School. In 1952, she and her husband moved to Jacksonville, where she has served in many community, school, and church activities. She served as director of the Illinois College bookstore for 24 years, where she was always a favorite friend of the students. In 1997, she was honored with the Illinois College “Friend of the College” award.
Mrs. Chipman was an avid gardener, with a keen eye for interior design. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her hearty laugh and zest for life.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville. The family will meet friends at the church from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service, as well as immediately following the service. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
