Mrs. Doris E. Clanton (Ward)
Doris E. Clanton, age 61, of rural Hillview, died Saturday evening,
Nov. 11, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born Dec. 5, 1938 in Walkerville, the daughter of Durward
and Zella Mundy Ward.
She married Everett Clanton on May 17, 1957 in Glasgow and he
survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Jeff (wife, Darla) Clanton of
Hillview and John (wife, Laura) Clanton of Conroe, Texas; seven
grandchildren; three brothers, Gilbert (wife, Marty) Ward of Lakeland,
Florida; Howard (wife, Linda) Ward of Conroe, Texas and Brad (wife,
Regina) Ward of White Hall; and two sisters, Mary Anne (husband, Wayne)
Stewart of Good Hope and Carolyn (husband, Kendall) Coffman of
Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Ward.
Mrs. Clanton was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church, Royal
Neighbors of America and the Hillview American Legion Auxiliary.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000 at the White
Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at
the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Memorials are suggested
to the Hillview Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carol Clark
Carol V. Clark, 65, of Jacksonville died Friday morning, September 8, 2000 at her residence. She was born October 13, 1935 in Baldwin, New York the daughter of Randolph Leonard and Margaret Morse. She married Robert “Bob” Clark on December 19, 1992 in Jacksonville and he survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Robert J. (wife, Susan) Wright of Baldwin, New York, David William Wright of Amityville, New York, Charles Henry (wife, Loraine) Wright of Dallas, Texas and William Franklin Wright of Valley Stream, New York; two daughters, Carol Robin (husband, Dennis Frank) Zvionk of Baldwin, New York and Elizabeth Davis of Mount Sterling; one step-son, Joseph Wright of Quincy, fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, three god-children, four brothers, Randolph Morse of Amityville, New York, Richard Morse of Kopek, New York, Gary Morse of Long Island, New York and Norman Morse of Baldwin, New York; five sisters, Ethel Hascall, Marie Roth and Lois Seidner all of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Arlene O’Neil of Queens, New York and Pauline Pelletier of Baldwin, New York. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine Eleanor Wright.
Mrs. Clark was a homemaker. Her greatest joy was her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Private services will be held. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Larry E. Clark
Larry E. Clark, age 49, of White Hall, died early Wednesday, Nov. 8,
2000 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 3, 1951 in Jacksonville, the son of Glen E. and
Elsie J. Crowe Clark.
He is survived by his father, Glen E. Clark of White Hall; one sister,
Cheryl J. Clark of Chicago and one niece, Julia Atkinson. He was preceded
in death by his mother, Elsie Clark.
Mr. Clark graduated from North Green e High School and worked at
Clark’s Appliances in White Hall for many years.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the White
Hall Cemetery. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. Michael Alan Clayton
Michael Alan Clayton, 37, of Jacksonville died early Thursday morning, July 20, 2000 at his residence. He was born on April 27, 1963 in Jacksonville, the son of William H. and Betty Thomas Clayton.
He is survived by his mother of Jacksonville and one brother, Bill Clayton, also of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Gary Clayton and Larry Clayton.
Mr. Clayton had been employed as a cab driver in Springfield as worked locally as a handyman. He enjoyed camping and motorcycle riding.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 200 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Winfred "Punch" Clayton
Wilfred “Punch” Clayton, age 82, of Murrayville, Ill. died 1:17 a.m. Sunday (December 17, 2000) at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Ill..
He was born May 31, 1918 in Murrayville, Ill. son of the late George D. and Annie E. Foster Clayton.
He married Frances Fern Killebrew on February 17, 1938 in Jacksonville, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Mrs. James (Frances E.) Stelbrink of Pearl, Ill.; four sons, George E. Clayton and wife Judy of White Hall, Ill., Wendell Clayton and wife Peggy and Earl Clayton and wife Joy both of Winchester, Ill., and Charles Clayton of Murrayville, Ill.; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Laura Dixon of Jacksonville, Ill.; two brothers, Robert Clayton and wife Veta of Pittsfield, Ill. and Stanley Clayton and wife Alma of Jacksonville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Iva Coleman; and four brothers, Clarence, Frank, Donald, and Ralph Clayton.
Mr. Clayton was a farmer, farming in the Lynnville area for many years who enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Lynnville Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 19, 2000) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester, Ill. with Rev. Roger Barnes officiating. Burial in the Winchester City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Gertie Coffey (Clostermery)
Gertie Coffey, age 83, of Pittsfield, Ill. died Monday evening (October 2, 2000) at the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born July 16, 1917 in Pittsfield, Ill. daughter of the late Charles and Pearl Helen Gray Clostermery.
Surviving is one son, Larry Coffey and wife Dona of Griggsville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Gertie Tenllado, Larry Joe Coffey, Jr., Charles William Coffey, and John Kenneth Coffey all of Griggsville, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Alex and Andy Tenllado and Nathan Michael Coffey all of Griggsville, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Coffey of Pittsfield, Ill.; one sister, Lucille McLaughlin of Clinton, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Knox; and two brothers, Scott Clostermery and Joseph Henry Clostermery.
Mrs. Coffey was a waitress/hostess for the Cardinal Inn in Pittsfield, Ill for thirty years. She was a former member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge and a member of the Pittsfield First Baptist Church.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday (October 7, 2000) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill.. Private interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Pike County Cancer Transportation Fund.
Mrs. Frances L. "Fran" Colwell
Frances L. “Fran” Colwell, 74, of Alexander died early Thursday morning, June 8, 2000 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on January 16, 1926 in New Berlin the daughter of Louis and Ester Leonard Glastetter. She married Carl E. Colwell on March 18, 1946 in St. Louis and he survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Donald Colwell of Alexander, Gary (former wife Diane E.) Colwell of Franklin, Alan (wife, Cindy ) Colwell of rural Jacksonville and Carl (wife, Pam) Colwell, Jr. of Franklin; thirteen grandchildren and one sister, Betty Colwell of Alexander. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one brother, Robert Glastetter.
Mrs. Colwell was a homemaker and had been a waitress for several years at the Elks Club in Jacksonville. She enjoyed gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Woodwreath Cemetery near New Berlin. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Dean Colwell
Dean Colwell, 75, of Jacksonville died Monday evening, December 11, 2000 at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville. He was born on November 10, 1925 in Alexander the son of Frank and Gertha Young Colwell. He married Mary Koehler. He later married Bertha Fernandes on November 26, 1986 in Danville and she survives in Jacksonville.
He is also survived by one son, Dan (wife, Leslie) Colwell of Pontiac; one stepson, Doug (wife, Sandy) Drane of Jacksonville; two step-daughters, Sue (husband, Dale) Anderson of Danville and Debbie (husband, Gib) Betties of Lawton, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Jamie Stenemeyer who was raised in his home; fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Quigg of Jacksonville and Betty Gray of Modesto; and two brothers, Frank “Chub” Colwell and Carl Colwell, both of Alexander. He was preceded in death by one step-son, Darrell Drane; and two brothers, Gilbert (surviving wife Donna of Jacksonville,) and John.
Mr. Colwell was employed by Morgan County for 16 years. He served as Sheriff of Morgan County from 1964 to 1968, and as Morgan County Treasurer from 1968 to 1972. Following his employment with the county, he drove trucks for Butch Woods and Erthal Oil, until his retirement. He served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for his efforts. He was a 35 year member of Jacksonville Lodge #570, A.F. & A.M., and was a member of VFW Post 1379, Amvets Post 100, and American Legion Post 279, all in Jacksonville. Mr. Colwell was a member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville and enjoyed gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Visiting Nurses of Central Illinois, Jacksonville Branch.
Harold D.T. Conlee
Harold D. T. Conlee, 63, of Jacksonville died Thursday, November 23, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born on March 12, 1937 in Jacksonville the son of Bernard and Lillian Lair Conlee.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Conlee.
Mr. Conlee had been employed at Mobil Chemical from 1968-1994. He was a member of Elks B.P.O.E., Moose Lodge, Legion of the Moose and a lifetime member and Past-President of the Jacksonville Jaycees.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2000 at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Moose rites will be accorded at that time. Memorials are suggested to Elks Little League. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gussie Conlee (DeHart)
Gussie Conlee, age 96, of White Hall, died Saturday evening, Nov.
25, 2000 at St. John’s Mercy in St. Louis.
She was born Oct. 4, 1904 in St. Louis County, the daughter of
Clarence O. and Lily Cronin DeHart.
She married Thomas Conlee on Aug. 14, 1923 in White Hall and he
preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1978.
She is survived by two sons, James (wife, Joan) Conlee of Dayton,
Ohio and Jack (wife, Jackie) Conlee of St. Charles, Missouri; one daughter,
Ruth (husband, Nyle) Vestel of White Hall; ten grandchildren; sixteen great
grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one brother, Clarence O.
DeHart of Bridgeton, Missouri and one sister, Elizabeth Houston of
Livonia, Michigan. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, one
infant daughter, one granddaughter, Beth Conlee, one infant grandson, Joel
Vestel; one infant great grandson, Jesse Vestel; three brothers, Gilbert,
Lewis and Woodrow DeHart and three sisters, Evelyn Marshall, Lillian
DeHart and Sarah Reynolds.
Mrs. Conlee was employed as a seamstress at Twin Cities
Manufacturing in White Hall for many years. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the White Hall
Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday
at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Meals On Wheels or
Green e County Visiting Nurses.
Mr. Carl C. Copley
Carl Clifford Copley, age 82, of White Hall, died Thursday morning,
Nov. 2, 2000 at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
He was born March 27, 1918 in Scott County, the son of Fred and
Sadie Mellor Copley.
He married Jewel J. Thompson on Sept. 22, 1938 in Oakwood,
Missouri and she survives.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Clifford Daniels of
Jacksonville, Alex Daniels of Jacksonville, Treva Daley of Edwardsville,
Aaron Smith of Carrollton, Warren Smith of Jacksonville, and Lisa Carey of
Alhambra; 2 step grandchildren, Steve Bishop of White Hall and Connie
Lovelace of Exeter; 15 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; and
2 great great grandchildren; one brother, David Copley of Jacksonville; and
two sisters, Marjorie Kesinger and Maxine Atkinson, both of Roodhouse.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Regina Miller and Carneal
Bishop (surviving husband, Earl Bishop of White Hall); one son, Kimel T.
Copley (surviving wife, Diana); two brothers Eugene and James Copley
and four sisters, Eva VanCleve, Blanche Dawson, Freda Walker and Fern
Kesinger.
Mr. Copley was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the
South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion Post #70 in White
Hall. He worked for the highway department for the State of Illinois for 8
years. He then worked at the White Hall Sewer Pipe and Stoneware Co.,
and was an international representative for the AFL-CIO Labor Union. He
later worked at the Roodhouse Envelope Company, retiring in 1983. Mr.
Copley was interested in local government and served as a White Hall
alderman for 8 years. He was a local historian and was instrumental in
having many downtown White Hall buildings listed on the National
Register.
He was a very active Mason, belonging to the White Hall Masonic
Lodge #80 for over 50 years, and served as past master. He also was a
50-year member of the Stuart Pierson Masonic Lodge in Carrollton and was
a honorary member of many area Masonic Lodges. He was a member of the
White Hall First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the White Hall
Cemetery, where Military services will be conducted by the White Hall
VFW Post #7684. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:30 p.m.
Saturday at the funeral home where public Masonic services will be held at
7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the White Hall Multicare Center
Activities Fund or the White Hall First Baptist Church.
