Mr. Thurman Frank Coughlin
Thurman Frank Coughlin, 92 of Winchester died Monday afternoon June 19, 2000 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.
He was born March 10, 1908 in Winchester the son of Frank and Minnie Canatsey Coughlin.
He married Margaret Walker June 8, 1940 in Winchester. She preceded him in death December 17, 1979. Also preceding him was his daughter Peggy Quarenghi in 1984 and 2 sisters Virginia Montgomery and Lillie Mae O’Donnell.
Mr. Coughlin was a 1926 graduate of Winchester High School. He served in the US Army during the Second World War, seeing action in Italy where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Coughlin worked for the US Postal service in Winchester for 42 years, retiring in 1978 having never taken a sick day during that time.
He was a member of the Winchester American Legion.
Surviving are his 3 grandchildren John Quarenghi of St. Louis, MO, Kent Quarenghi of Tucson, AZ and Pam Quarenghi of St. Louis, MO. 2 brothers Virgil Coughlin of Bluffs, and Fred Coughlin of Jerseyville, and a sister Mildred Craddock of Winchester. And several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am Thursday June 22, 2000 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery where Military Graveside rites will be conducted. Friends may call after 4:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Winchester EMS or to the Scott County Nursing Center.
Dorothy Virginia Coultas
Dorothy Virginia Coultas, 80, of Winchester passed away Tuesday (November 28, 2000) at her home.
She was born September 18, 1920 in Morgan County the daughter of William and Florence Ticknor Fearneyhough.
She married Timothy Keith Coultas November 29, 1941 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death February 23, 1988.
Mrs. Coultas grew up in the Lynnville area. She attended Winchester schools. She had been a long time member of the Merritt-Riggston United Methodist Church, but more recently she was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Winchester.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, a brother Wilbur Fearneyhough and a sister Frances Wedeking.
Survivors include her sons Ronald Keith (wife Barbara) Coultas of Winchester and Timothy Reid (wife Debra) Coultas of Fraser, Colorado. 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 1 step great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday (December 2, 2000) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Winchester EMS or to the 1st Christian Church in Winchester.
Mr. David Neal Cox
David Neal Cox, age 49, of White Hall, died Thursday evening, Aug.
24, 2000 at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Oct. 8, 1950 in Carrollton, the son of Stanley and Bessie
Willis Cox.
He is survived by his mother, Bessie Cox of White Hall; five
brothers, Larry K. Cox of Phoenix, AZ; Douglas T. Cox of White Hall;
Roger G. Cox and Ralph D. Cox, both of Hillview and Stanley R. Cox of
White Hall; two sisters, Joyce Ackley of Roodhouse and Karol Walters of
White Hall; his stepmother, Johanna Cox of White Hall and 18 nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeremy Cox and his
father.
Mr. Cox served in the U.S. Air Force from May 1969 until July 1986.
While in the service, he served overseas in Japan, Korea, Germany and
Thailand and had top secret clearance at Nellis Air Force Base (also known
as Area 51) in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received the Air Force Longevity
Service Ribbon with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Good Conduct
Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with
two oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam
Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military
Education Ribbon and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was a
member of the American Legion Post #117 in Phoenix, Arizona and a
member of the White Hall VFW Post #7684. He was a telephone contractor
for several years after he left the service.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the Pine Tree
Cemetery near Patterson. Family will meet friends one hour prior to
services Sunday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Hazle I. Crain (Weddersten)
Hazle I. Crain, 72, of Roodhouse died at 9:20 A.M. on Sunday June 25, 2000
at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
Born on Nov. 9, 1927 in Roodhouse she was the daughter of the late
William G. and Lucille M. Williams Weddersten.
On Oct. 18, 1947 she married Everett “Red” Crain and he preceded her in
death on Jan. 24, 1993.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law: Rob and Cara Sue Crain of
Manchester, 2 grandchildren: Chris (wife-Robin) Crain of Springfield, Mo.
and Kyle Crain of Roodhouse and a brother David Weddersten of
Roodhouse.
She was preceded in death by a brother: “Bud” Weddersten.
Mrs. Crain was employed by the Roodhouse Envelope Co. for over 30
years, retiring in 1990.
Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Monday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Roodhouse. Graveside rites will be held on Tuesday at 10
A.M. at the Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. Memorials may be made to the Green e Co. Visiting Nurses.
Mr. Philiar "Phil" Yelliott Cresson
Philiar “Phil” Yelliott Cresson, age 81, of Griggsville,
Ill. was pronounced dead Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at his
residence.
He was born November 11, 1919 in Whitewater,
Wisconsin son of the late Robert W. and Alfreda
Tucker Cresson.
Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Harvey (Ruby) Mink of
Pittsfield, Ill.; one brother, Alfred Cresson of Tyberg,
New York; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters,
Charlotte Simmons, and Margaret Waite; and two
brothers, Robert and Arthur Cresson.
Mr. Cresson was a farm laborer working for many
years in Pike County, Ill.. He was a veteran of W.W. II
and a member of the Griggsville American Legion Post
#213, Pike County V.F.W., and Jacksonville Moose
Lodge in Jacksonville, Ill.. He was also a member of the
Bethel Church near Griggsville and was one of it’s
oldest living members.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday (June 1,
2000) at Bethel Cemetery near Griggsville, Ill. with
Pastor Jeff Allen officiating. Graveside military rites
will be preformed by Griggsville American Legion Post
#213. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be
made to the Bethel Church c/o the funeral home.
Lydia Caroline Crum (DeFrates)
Lydia Caroline Crum, 77, of Girard died Friday morning, November 17, 2000 at her residence. She was born on November 12, 1923 in Ceres, the daughter of Samuel and Roseanne Preston DeFrates. She married Colonel Glenn Crum on October 2, 1944 in St. Louis and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Robert (wife, JoAnn) Crum of Waverly and John (wife, Carole) Crum of Brighton; one daughter, Sue Ellen (husband, Mark) Rosenberg of Ashland, Virginia; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James Andrew Crum, one brother, Lt. Col. James J. DeFrates, and one sister, Mary Jane Mitchell.
Mrs. Crum was a homemaker, setting up housekeeping 26 times, and crossing the Atlantic Ocean six times, to be with her family. She was a member of Country View Christian Church in Girard.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2000 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Nellie Ruth Dalton
Nellie Ruth Dalton, 82, of Jacksonville and formerly of Winchester died late Friday night (November 4, 2000) at Prairie Village Healthcare Center in Jacksonville.
She was born July 10, 1918. She married Roy O. Dalton in 1939 in Bowling Green , Missouri.
He preceded her in death May 27, 1983.
Surviving is her daughter Mae Chapman of Lebanon, Illinois, a sister Tina McGraw of Libertyville, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Pittsfield and Jacksonville.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday in the Winchester City Cemetery with Reverend Cecil Carroll Sr. officiating.
There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions can be made to Prairie Village Healthcare Center.

Miss Loucille "Lou" Davenport
Loucille “Lou” Davenport 97, of Waverly, died Friday, September 8, 2000 at St. John’s North in Springfield.
She was born April 5, 1903, the daughter of Jess C. and Mac Coons Davenport.
She is survived by one sister: Ruth Noble, of Waverly; and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Lester and John Davenport; one sister: Dorothy Davenport Martin; one nephew; and one great-nephew.
Ms. Davenport owned and operated the Davenport Shell Station in Waverly for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waverly and a charter member of Linton Temple of Pythian Sisters of Waverly.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church Elevator Fund or the Waverly Rescue Squad.
Michelle DeFrates (Bandy)
Michelle “Shelley” Bandy DeFrates, 28, of Winchester died Saturday evening, December 2, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born on March 13, 1972 in Springfield the daughter of Ned and Kathy Ketchum Bandy.
She is survived by one daughter, Brooke Ashley DeFrates at home; her mother of Jacksonville and her father of Springfield; one sister, Amy Bandy of Charleston; the father of her daughter, Kyle DeFrates of South Jacksonville; paternal grandmother Betty Bandy of Tallula; maternal grandparents Jerry and Jean Ketchum of Nalcrest, Florida; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather Homer Bandy.
Mrs. DeFrates was a counselor at Community Counseling Services in Jacksonville. She was a 1990 graduate of Routt High School and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Illinois College in 1994. She was currently pursuing a Masters of Social Work degree from St. Louis University. While at Illinois College, she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honor Society.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Williamson Funeral Home. The family will meet friends following a 5:45 p.m. prayer service, until 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Michelle Bandy DeFrates Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Dorotha Denham
Dorotha Denham, 70 of Alexander died Monday morning, July 24, 2000 at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville. She was born on February 5, 1930 in Jacksonville the daughter of James G. and Mary June Ryman Myers. She married William Russell Denham on December 28, 1948 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1977.
She is survived by four daughters, Mary Elizabeth (husband, Wendell) Stephenson, Jr. of Alexander, Deborah Kay (husband, Walter) Zupances of Georgetown, Indiana, Russann Marie (husband, Earl) Turner of Jacksonville and Catherine Jean (husband, Paul) Large of South Jacksonville; two sons, William Russell (wife, Tina) Denham, Jr. of Franklin and James Thomas (companion, Debbie Krell) Denham of Alexander; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lee William Myers of Houston, Texas and Charles E. (wife, Shirley Fay) Myers of Spring Bay; and one sister-in-law, Emma Lee (husband, Lloyd) Krumlauf of Glasgow, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by four brothers, James Ivan Myers, Robert Franklin Myers, John Raymond Myers, and John Watkins, and one step-sister, Colleen Reichert.
Mrs. Denham was a bus driver for Franklin School District #1 from 1969 until her retirement in November of 1991.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2000 at Neece Funeral Home in Franklin with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after noon on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Passavant Hospital.
